[Bug 1887535] Re: build operates differently if source is a git repo

2021-02-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI - for Hirsute I guess I'll merge 1:5.2+dfsg-5 instead which
contains:

commit ee3df39decb75d2c5e820870aec3df6bfec4a77d
Author: Dan Streetman
Date: Fri Feb 12 04:43:13 2021 -0500

Backport configure param --with-git-submodules and set to 'ignore'

And from there we can upload it along other changes (as discussed bug
1913421) that qualify for an SRU.

[Bug 1915784] [NEW] Permissions of executables pointing to "buildd"

2021-02-15 Thread Thomas Karl Pietrowski
Public bug reported:

I've noticed this issue already with other applications, which have been
updated recently, too.
This morning I've updated the sudo package and it broke, too.

The common issue is that fakeroot gets omitted or faulty in your build
environment somehow.

After looking into the current sudo package I've noticed that all files
are owned by "buildd:buildd", which doesn't exist on my computer and
thus the 2001:2501 on my local machine.

I'll try to collect some other packages, too, which have the same
problem.

[Bug 1914062] Re: NetworkManager-wait-online.service in 1.28.0-2ubuntu1 fails to start in LXC

2021-02-15 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Just FTR, note that the change in NM upstream was needed so the network-
manager snap was able to correctly detect if udevd is running. We
currently build the snap from the source package + some patches
including this one. But, the long term target is to be able to create
the snap by simply staging the network-manager debs. So, please keep
this in mind and try to put back this change as soon as is feasible
again, so we do not need to remove the change in the deb and then put it
back in the snap.

Thank you a lot, Brian.

I'll try to do that, yet I have not very sure how.

[Bug 1915779] [NEW] sudo: bad onwership of /usr/bin/sudo and /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so (2001:2501)

2021-02-15 Thread Andrea Righi
Public bug reported:

After enabling the -proposed ppa in Hirsute (21.04) I'm getting the
following error:

ubuntu@hirsute:~$ sudo su -
sudo: /usr/bin/sudo must be owned by uid 0 and have the setuid bit set
ubuntu@hirsute:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/sudo
-rwsr-xr-x 1 2001 2501 190952 Feb 10 11:42 /usr/bin/sudo

I had a root session open so I could fix it by manually setting user and
group ownership back to root.

After that I noticed that also /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so had the wrong
ownership:

ubuntu@hirsute:~$ sudo su -
sudo: error in /etc/sudo.conf, line 0 while loading plugin "sudoers_policy"
sudo: /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so must be owned by uid 0
sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins

I manually fixed also this one and now my system seems to work normally.

[Bug 1848923] Re: pollinate.service fails to start: ERROR: should execute as the [pollinate] user -- missing CacheDirectory=

2021-02-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Verification for groovy:

I took a 20.10 VM with current pollinate 4.33-3ubuntu1, and after
booting, pollinate.service is in state failed as per the bug
description.

I then updated to 4.33-3ubuntu1.20.10.1. The package update auto-
restarted pollinate.service, and it looked successful:

# systemctl status pollinate
● pollinate.service - Pollinate to seed the pseudo random number generator
 Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/pollinate.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
Active: inactive (dead) since Tue 2021-02-16 06:03:56 UTC; 1min 45s ago
   Docs: https://launchpad.net/pollinate
Process: 2815 ExecStart=/usr/bin/pollinate (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
   Main PID: 2815 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

number generator...

Feb 16 06:03:56 ubuntu systemd[1]: pollinate.service: Succeeded.
Feb 16 06:03:56 ubuntu systemd[1]: Finished Pollinate to seed the pseudo random
number generator.

It does not have RemainAfterExit=, so that is as expected. I rebooted
the VM, and the unit skipped cleanly, again as expected:

# systemctl status pollinate
● pollinate.service - Pollinate to seed the pseudo random number generator
 Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/pollinate.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
 Active: inactive (dead)
Condition: start condition failed at Tue 2021-02-16 06:06:58 UTC; 6s ago
 └─ ConditionPathExists=!/var/cache/pollinate/seeded was not met
   Docs: https://launchpad.net/pollinate

Feb 16 06:06:58 ubuntu systemd[1]: Condition check resulted in Pollinate
to seed the pseudo random number generator being skipped.

# ls -l /var/cache/pollinate/
total 0
-rw-r--r-- 1 pollinate daemon 0 Feb 16 06:03 seeded

Now let's re-try the cleanup:

# rm -rf /var/cache/*
# reboot

This causes the shutdown process to last a little longer, presumably
because running daemons got their files ripped away underneath them, but
it does succeed. After it came back up, pollinate.service once again ran
successfully like above.

[Bug 1915774] [NEW] Sudo owner changed to user #2001 after update

2021-02-15 Thread Sebastian Horatio Stillion
Public bug reported:

This is a configuration bug that affects the hirsute-proposed version of
sudo. This bug causes sudo when re-configuring, to assign to an unused
user id that is neither the end user nor root. The result is that sudo
will refuse to run, returning an error message that is displayed below:

sudo: /usr/bin/sudo must be owned by uid 0 and have the setuid bit set

The reconfiguration is the last process that occurs in a normal update
though because sudo will not be usable at this time, the su command with
root password must be used instead for accessing root privileges.

If you have already upgraded from hirsute-release to hirsute-proposed
and you are affected by this bug, please reinstall, and in release do
sudo passwd root and then configure the password for the root account
and then once update use su for the time being. Once the bug is fixed
however please for security reasons delete the root account and use sudo
for root privelages.

[Bug 1880749] Re: Ubuntu 20.04: virtualenv: pep517 requires toml, but it isn't bundled in venvs

2021-02-15 Thread Stefano Rivera
@Rick: Thanks for the response.

A few things:
1. I don't think you're using the current wheels.
Try with --clear-app-data (added to the SRU instructions in the description).
2. What this still doesn't tell me is how *pip* is impacted by this breakage.
LP: #1904945 means that we won't expose pep517 to the virtualenv outside of
pip, any more.
So, pep517 being broken outside of pip wouldn't be an issue.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * The pep517 module vendored in pip is missing its toml dependency.
   * No specific examples of what that breaks, but it seems worth fixing
-while we deal with LP: #1912248.
+    while we deal with LP: #1912248.
   * This upload backports upstream's 20.1 patch, replacing pytoml with
     toml, following pep517.

  [Test Case]

  # apt install python3 virtualenv
- # virtualenv -p python3 foo
+ # virtualenv --clear-app-data -p python3 foo
  # foo/bin/python -m pep517.build

  Note:
  ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'toml'

Ideally the virtualenv wouldn't even contain pep517, it would be
internal to pip. See LP: #1904945

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Anybody who was expecting pytoml to be installed in Ubuntu Focal
virtualenvs will have their expectation broken.
They really shouldn't be expecting that, though.

  [Original Bug Report]

On a clean 20.04 machine (or container), observe the following:

  apt-get update
  apt-get install -y python3-virtualenv
  python3 -m virtualenv foo && source foo/bin/activate
  pip list

You will notice there are a plethora of extra packages in the virtual
environment that should not normally be there, resulting in a dirty
  virtual environment.

The packages listed here are those that are bundled with pip:
  https://github.com/pypa/pip/tree/master/src/pip/_vendor

To make matters worse, the latest release of pip bundles incompatible
versions of libraries. The net result is that `pip install pep517` will
show that it is already installed, and but `import pep517` will result
  in an ImportError.

This problem has been fixed in the Debian Testing/Unstable python-
virtualenv package. Could the Ubuntu package backport these fixes?

This is blocking Ansible supporting 20.04 officially, since the dirty
virtualenvs are causing our tests to fail.

[Bug 1864787] Re: Lubuntu failed install "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"

2021-02-15 Thread Chris Guiver
I just re-experienced this using hirsute daily, install on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

I've also marked
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1914521 a
duplicate of this...

Note: 1914521 was easier to replicate, as it was a simple
(1) FULL DISK install of Xubuntu/Lubuntu,
(2) INSTALL ALONGSIDE of Lubuntu (occurred on focal.2 ISO)

however; the install was done many times, and that bug only occurred extremely
rarely (and on a single box)
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)
which is a similar but different box (later motherboard)

[Bug 1910872] Re: Xubuntu default settings are not applied

2021-02-15 Thread Sean Davis
Interestingly, it only affects profiles created from a freshly-installed
hirsute.

* Upgrading from groovy, new and existing users are unaffected.
* Downgrading to the xubuntu-default-settings from groovy doesn't make a
difference.
* This affects the standard installation option as well.

[Bug 1915674] Re: Sharing folder in Files: "net usershare" returned error 255

2021-02-15 Thread Chow Loong Jin
I see that the feature that it seems to conflict with is the `[homes]`
section in /etc/samba/smb.conf (which makes it so that every user's home
directory is exported as a share), so maybe commenting out that whole
section and restarting samba might do the trick.

See https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/smb.conf.5.html
for more information about this.

5.11.0-rc7 is expected to fix your touchpad. Could you paste the output of
"sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/gpio|grep pin130 -A1" and also the output of
"sudo evest" when you lick the left bottom and right bottom button?

Did the above error happens when using
https://github.com/coiby/standalone_i2c_hid?

Have you tried what's suggested in the bug description?

As for the brightness issue, https://github.com/Askannz/optimus-manager/
works for me.

[Bug 1915674] Re: Sharing folder in Files: "net usershare" returned error 255

2021-02-15 Thread abcdef
Thanks for the suggestion for a workaround.

If true, sounds like an unreasonable limitation and implementation
detail worthy of someone's attention, considering it is entirely
reasonable to create a share called "games".

The version of sudo in the repos already prior to this
(1.9.4p2-2ubuntu3) works as expected, though, with proper permissions
being set:

2021-02-15 Thread Thomas Ward
Confirmed the regression that iLogin sees.

>From within a hirsute daily LXD container with full apt update and apt
dist-upgrade done to it, with `sudo apt install -t hirsute-proposed
sudo` done to get the sudo AND updated libc it requires):

root@hirsute-test:~# ls -al $(which sudo)
-rwsr-xr-x 1 2001 2501 190952 Feb 10 11:42 /usr/bin/sudo
root@hirsute-test:~# sudo
sudo: /usr/bin/sudo must be owned by uid 0 and have the setuid bit set

Which means the package does not work as intended, and will break.

Well it sounds like you can't have a share with the same name as a
username, and there's a `games` user in Ubuntu by default. Pick another
share name perhaps?

[Bug 1845756] Re: lubuntu 19.10 strange movement of wallpaper on monitor.settings change

2021-02-15 Thread Chris Guiver
QA-test (hirsute) on
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

on adjusting monitor.settings to match my setup, my-top monitor now is
black, and top.of.wallpaper is now displayed on my-lower monitor; ie.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-session/+bug/1845756 -
this issue is petty & minor (logout & login usually fixes this, but I
can't do that currently due to prior issue)...

changing wallpaper still had black-no-wallpaper top monitor??? which
doesn't usually occur as far as I recall, top of wallpaper still showing
bottom display only which I expected to resolve issue.. but still
ignoring this.. as impossible to explore properly until other issue is
fixed

As I have not experienced this in opensuse (tumbleweed); maybe it's
related to Qt, as the other issue I mention
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-config/+bug/1905947) is
Qt related doesn't occur there either..

[Bug 1902025] Re: hwe kernel not scoped under "Ubuntu Base"

2021-02-15 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected,

Accepted update-manager into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-
manager/1:20.04.10.6 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu Focal)

[Bug 1915605] Re: Firefox (circle spinning while run program) problem on Ubuntu bionic family - 18.04.5

2021-02-15 Thread Piotr
The best way to find this bug is.

1) Start firefox
2) Move your cursor to the top of the screen on place with date and time or
other place on the top of the screen (on the left or the right from the date
and time place).
3) Now you can noticed that your cursor is "busy" but only when you have your
cursor on the top of the screen. When you move cursor to the centre of the
screen outside top of the screen cursor return to normal animation.

Sorry for my English but I hope that you now understand me.

P.S. I noticed also that if I will start firefox for the first time from
the boot my system this bug is not affected but I think that firefox
start longer than when I run this for the second and next times so maybe
I can't see this bug.

On Ubuntu 20.04 I don't have this bug.

We use xorriso in place of genisoimage for Ubuntu ISO generation. I'm
actually not sure why genisoimage is a dependency of livecd-rootfs, since I
don't believe we have any ISOs as output of livecd-rootfs itself.

The ubuntu-meta dependency is being dropped; the seed change has already
been merged, and a new ubuntu-desktop is waiting in hirsute-proposed.

2021-02-15 Thread Steve Langasek
The bug reporting system guided you to file this bug against the grub
package because you have grub1 installed on your system. This is not
installed by default, has long been deprecated, and you have installed
it without configuring it which is an error. To restore your packaging
system to working order, do:

  sudo apt purge grub

[Bug 1915605] Re: Firefox (circle spinning while run program) problem on Ubuntu bionic family - 18.04.5

2021-02-15 Thread Piotr
The best way to way to find this bug is.

1) Start firefox
2) Move your cursor to the top of the screen near place with date and time.
3) Now you can noticed that your cursor is "busy"

Sorry for my English but I hope that you understand me.

P.S. I noticed also that if I will start firefox for the first time from the
boot my system this bug is not affected but I think that firefox start longer
than when I run this for the second and next times so maybe I can't see this
bug.

[Bug 1915605] Re: Firefox (circle spinning while run program) problem on Ubuntu bionic family - 18.04.5

2021-02-15 Thread Piotr
Hi Olivier,

I know of other users who are observing the same problem. Like I earlier
said on other machine I noticed this same bug also. This is my father
machine with Xubuntu 18.04.4. This bug was frustrating my father so I
decided to install Lubuntu 18.04.4 and this problem not exist on Lubuntu
system.

Firefox start normally. This start in a reasonable time frame but "busy"
cursor remains on even after app has started. So like you said.
