[Bug 1926050] [NEW] Web benchmark freezing and crashing the system

2021-04-24 Thread sepukkuhero
Public bug reported:

Expected behavior: perform the "Basemark Web 3.0" benchmark, at most a
loss of performance.

Real behavior: the benchmark completely crashes the system in one of the
initial stages (4). The screen presents graphical distortion (it never
happens), intense crashes and sometimes it is solved with the automatic
suspension of the computer (which remains on at times). But it doesn't
usually come back from the crash.

The problem happens with the onboard ATI RADEON 3000 (RS780 driver) and
it happens in both xorg and wayland. Ubuntu and kernel duly updated to
the present date.

[Bug 1926048] [NEW] [GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0, ATI RS690/780 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2021-04-24 Thread sepukkuhero
Public bug reported:

The HDMI audio on the onboard ATI RADEON 3000 (RS780 driver, GA78LMT
motherboard) does not work without tweaks in GRUB.

Expected behavior: sound working over HDMI.

Real behavior: no sound at all.

Solution: I installed "GRUB Customizer" and put the following command in
the kernel parameter (which I found after a lot of research): "quiet
splash radeon.audio = 1"

This needs to be resolved urgently, it can alienate novice users.

  https://emojipedia.org/emoji-13.0/

  [ Regression potential ]

Emoji using a different composition not supported by 20.04 may show as
multiple icons instead than as a single emoji.

No emoji are shown when they used to be visible.

This is easily comparable using https://unicode.org/emoji/charts/full-
emoji-list.html where "Google" should match "Browser".

python3-nototools has no rdepends and the only one Build-Depend is
fonts-noto-color-emoji itself, so updating it has no effect either.
+
+ The design of some icons has been updated, overall the look is
+ consistent though and given that these are not part of any core

[Bug 1914878] Re: At boot on Pi4 with 20.04.02 i get: Failed to load '//uboot/ubuntu/boot.sel'

2021-04-24 Thread Western Definition
I thought this was affecting me, but I think I was instead seeing a bug
in the Raspberry Pi Imager advanced setting when applied to ubuntu. The
ubuntu image worked fine when I used dd to copy the image to the sd
card.

I believe that this bug for 21.04 is the same as

[Bug 1926011] Re: fwupd sbat support

This patch shall be able to add sbat in current groovy deb.

A test ppa (without fwupd-signed) is currently build in

Note: per double check, both efi in fwupd and fwupd-signed do not have
the sbat part there.

[Bug 1924685] Re: No sound output/input available after installing 21.04

2021-04-24 Thread Herczeg Zsolt
I'm affected by this bug, and I can confirm that the root cause is a
misconfiguration of kernel flags as described in this mailing list:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=976791#35

I've used the ubuntu wiki Build Your Own kernel guide
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel) to enable the
CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_USER_FRIENDLY_LONG_NAMES=y option, and I can
confirm it works.

Is there any chance that we can get the configuration options into the Ubuntu
builds as follows?
CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_USER_FRIENDLY_LONG_NAMES=y
CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m

Seems like debian has already fixed this misconfiguration.

[Bug 1923311] Re: nautilus crash when creating symlink

2021-04-24 Thread Christian Rauch
A bit unrelated, but the reason that there is no "nautilus-dbgsym" for
the updated nautilus package (version 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu from "focal-
updates") is that the dbgsym index for the released version ("focal")
at:

http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/focal/main/binary-amd64/Packages

shows the "nautilus-dbgsym" at version "1:3.36.1.1-1ubuntu2", but the
updated index ("focal-updates") at:

http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/focal-updates/main/binary-amd64/Packages

does not contain any "nautilus-dbgsym".

I am mentioning this because I have a couple of other packages that have
been updated but now do not have a corresponding "-dbgsym" package.

@seb128 Do you have an idea where I can report this issue?

[Bug 1926039] [NEW] Ubuntu Desktop 20.04.2 Installer Clobbers Alternate Drive EFI System Parition

2021-04-24 Thread Wire
Public bug reported:

SITUATION

System with two drives and two existing OS installations:
Drive 1) Ubuntu Desktop 20.10
Drive 2) OpenCore

Re-installing Ubuntu Desktop (20.04.2 LTS) on Drive-1 overwrites the EFI
System Partition on Drove=2 when it has not been selected as the install
target.

BEHAVIOR

• The Ubuntu installer properly identifies Drive-1 as an existing Ubuntu
installation and offers to replace the installation.

• Accepting the offer of replacement installation progresses normally,
but when installation is complete, the existing other OS on Drive-2
drive is no longer bootable.

• Examining the non-target Drive-2 shows the EFI System Partition
EFI/BOOT folder has been overwritten with Ubuntu grub-specific files,
including the replacement of the non-target EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.efi
OpenCore loader by a grub loader and addition of other grub boot support
files. Replacing the polluted ESP on Drive-2 restores access to the
other OS.

The non-target Drive-2 should not have been touched. For many users,
this behavior will appear to be the destruction of the non-target drive
with total data loss. BIOS boot options will report only grub boot
capability with no way to restore other OS function and they will have
no idea how restore the ESP and find their data.

This behavior makes trying Ubuntu a total disaster for new users and a
good scare for experienced users.

Affected system: Ubuntu Desktop 20.04.2 LTS installing to an existing Ubuntu
Desktop 20.10.
Target drive-1 is SATA, single-boot Ubuntu 20.10
Non-target drive-2 is NVMe, OpenCore

[Bug 1916028] Re: Problem with Wireless Network Adapter on brcmsmac driver (Broadcom BCM4313) - Ubuntu 18.04.5

2021-04-24 Thread Piotr
This is problem with brcmsmac driver. This driver work perfectly but
only with limited wi-fi channels like I said in first post. On high
number wi-fi channels this have problem with connection to my router. On
bcmwl-kernel-source I don't have this issue. So maybe Linux kernel team
should fix issue with brcmsmac driver ? I prefer open source drivers
instead restricted so this is very important to fix it. If they fix it a
lot of people can simply install system without additional drivers and
this will be so great!

asking for help at e.g. in order to find out if
there is something you have misunderstood or if there really is a bug,
and if it is, to which package it belongs.

Then, if you conclude that there is a bug, please file a new bug report.

[Bug 1924605] Re: Grub2 menu not loading - could not create MokListXRT

2021-04-24 Thread Achim Behrens
As said before it worked some weeks ago and still works on a 20.04.5
live usb. So there is something broken in the 21.04 setup of the whole
grub/kernel/efi stuff.

I stumbled about the releasenotes from 21.04 now talking about some shim
issue. and i found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-
signed/+bug/1925010 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1925064.

I have the error "efi: Failed to lookup EFI memory descriptor for
0xd75f2000" in the logs like which seems to releate here:

[Bug 1926034] [NEW] Upgrade from 20.10 to 21.04 makes keyboard layout unusable

2021-04-24 Thread abcdef
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 20.10 to 21.04 (using the -d option) and after a
successful upgrade my keyboard layout doesn't work at all anymore
resulting in a system where I'm unable to type properly. I have no idea
which package, nor what other details are relevant.

I used the "Dvorak A5" layout (or "Svorak A5" -- can't remember off the
top of my head which of its two names it's been given in ubuntu) but in
the list of my used keyboard layouts in system settings it's now instead
listed as something like "se+dvorak_a5" -- I don't know the exact name
while typing this report since I'm naturally no longer using Ubuntu for
any task that involves typing (i.e. at all), but the point is that it
now just looks like a skeleton of something that's no longer present on
the system.

As I recall I was forced to jump through hoops just to get it working in
the first place (unlike in Windows and macOS where it takes 20 seconds
to install and then sticks around forever), since for some reason a lot
of layouts, including the one I use, are hidden from me by default in
Ubuntu until I find some obscure switch that shows them all. I suppose
on the bright side, at least I no longer had to copy-paste obscure XML
just to install it.

In any case, the removal of my keyboard layout upon upgrade is an
absolute deal-breaker. Come to think of it this is precisely the reason
I've previously just removed the entire Ubuntu partition after
upgrading. I need an OS that doesn't try to stop me from typing, and I
don't understand why Ubuntu (apparently) insists on doing that.

Let me know if you need any details.

[Bug 1915605] Re: Firefox (circle spinning while run program) problem on Ubuntu bionic family - 18.04.5

2021-04-24 Thread Piotr
I think that this is not problem with firefox. I found that on other
programs on Ubuntu 18.04.5 sometimes also my cursor is busy. I noticed
this when I copied files with nautilus (GUI method). So maybe in
different space of the operating system this problem exist. On focal I
didn't notice yet this bug so only bionic is affected.

[Bug 1926033] [NEW] left clicking selection on desktop - super large area

2021-04-24 Thread Retroverto
Public bug reported:

When I left click on my desktop (say I want to select Home and Trash
icons) the selection area is insanely large. I have 3 monitors all with
different resolutions my gut feeling is it has something to do w/ that.
I've attached a gif that shows the issue. The selection area (teal) is
me selecting a very small area but it expands instantly very large.

This happened after I upgraded from 20.10 to 21.04

I've reinstalled my Nvidia drivers and the problem persists.

[Bug 1926032] [NEW] Screen "disconnects" when updating screen buffer

2021-04-24 Thread Johannes Konow
Public bug reported:

I have a problem in which the screen will behave as if I pulled the HDMI
or turned the computer off (no source) for a few seconds until the
screen comes back on again. This happens a lot when I open a new window,
moves the mouse after it has been still for a while or I open a new
window or move the current window.

I can watch a whole movie without this problem but as soon as I pause or
touch the controls of VLC or move the mouse the problem reocurr. It
seems to be after a certain idle period most of the time, but not
always. Sometimes it happens many times in a row.

The setup is my home built media PC with intel integrated graphics
(i5-9400) connected to a philips 55" TV (55POS901F) through a Pioneer AV
receiver.

I have tried probably every possible resolution and screen update
frequency and the problem is still there.

[Bug 854333] Re: ibus GUI not loading, unable to use input

2021-04-24 Thread aslam karachiwala
This issue occurs in Kubuntu 20.04 even with gnome-icon-theme installed.
The panel icon/applet goes missing while ibus-daemon is running. The
keyboard shortcut to switch input methods also stops working.

Workaround:

ibus-daemon -rxd

This restarts the daemon, and causes the icon/applet to appear in the
panel and makes the keyboard shortcut to work as intended. This
workaround is temporary and has to be repeated every time the issue
occurs.

[Bug 1926030] [NEW] IR Remote Keys Repeat Many Times Starting with Kernel 5.8.0-49

2021-04-24 Thread Ted L
Public bug reported:

I use an IR remote with the ir-keytable package. Everything was working
fine until kernel 5.8.0-49 was automatically installed by Software
Updater on Ubuntu 20.04.2. When any key is pressed on the remote, the
key is repeated about 500 times. The kernel is now 5.8.0-50, and the
problem persists.

Other users on the MythTV mailing list are reporting the issue, and it
appears that the problem is related to changes in the following files:

drivers/media/rc/ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c
drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c b/drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c
drivers/media/rc/serial_ir.c

It has been reported that reverting the ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c and rc-
main.c files to the older versions fixes the problem.

Same issue for me, my root partition (including home) was full

I would say thats more a user error than a bug since most desktop

[Bug 1926028] [NEW] "About this computer" reports 20.04 instead of 20.10

2021-04-24 Thread macho
Public bug reported:

Top-right-widget >> About This Computer

pops up a window titled "Details" whose main contents report "ubuntu
20.04 LTS" in a large font.

This caused me some confusion, since I couldn't figure out for some time
why the Software Updater app was not offering version upgrades, despite
that I had it configured to do so. I started to become suspicious based
on the giant gorilla art all over my desktop, and it indeed turns out
I'm already running 20.10:

[Bug 1926011] Re: fwupd sbat support

2021-04-24 Thread Mario Limonciello
xnox had a suggestion in previous issue that we should split the UEFI
package from userland package and then only build and sign UEFI package
one time.

This change has happened upstream, and now there is a separate fwupd-efi
repository with it's own release.
https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd-efi with release 1.0 here:
https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd-efi/releases/tag/1.0

The userland packages all picked up a patch that allows skipping the
build of the UEFI binary as well.

So my suggestion is that when impish opens we get the split package
uploaded and working there, and then we do binary pocket copies to bring
fwupd-efi and fwupd-efi-signed back to older releases.

[Bug 1926021] Re: Wrong mapping of channels to HDMI ports

2021-04-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1926021/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I assume this was a typo and you really meant 21.04.

> and see what's the one that breaks podman.

That was easy, it's tuned. Full reproducer:

apt install -y tuned
podman run -it --rm -p 5000:5000 --name registry docker.io/registry:2
curl http://localhost:5000/v2/

Curious, two years ago I already filed bug #1774000 where tuned breaks
qemu. Reassigning for now.

[Bug 1925765] Re: [21.04 regression] networking broken in containers

2021-04-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks Reinhard for trying! I'm running a standard cloud image (https
://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/daily/server/hirsute/current/hirsute-server-
cloudimg-amd64.img), but with some additional packages installed. I'll
go through them with a fine comb and see what's the one that breaks
podman.

(But probably not before Monday, weather is just too nice )

Public bug reported:

After installing recommended driver nvidia-driver-460 for my NVIDIA
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti the different channels are mapped wrong to my 7.1
surround sound set. Playing sound in stereo works fine but when playing
a movie voice is not send to center speaker. Is there a way to change

It seems you have installed some 3rd party related packages of
*OpenOffice* which are not supported in an Ubuntu installation with
LibreOffice.

Please remove the OpenOffice packages you have installed to fix this conflict.
See "dpkg -l | grep openoffice" for the packages which need to be removed.

[Bug 1917884] Re: fails to buid in autopkgtest but not the actual build

2021-04-24 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Is that still an issue? I understand the package now builds just fine.

I think that's a general issue with golang packages. The line you quoted
is not including the error message, but shows the packages that the dh-
golang debhelper identified as needing to build. From the linked
logfile, this is the actual relevant error:

  # github.com/containers/podman/vendor/k8s.io/apimachinery/pkg/util/net

src/github.com/containers/podman/vendor/k8s.io/apimachinery/pkg/util/net/http.go:174:13:
 undefined: http2.ConfigureTransports

this indicates that some (possibly vendored) dependency is outdated and
needs syncing with the rest of the ubuntu archive.

[Bug 1926018] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts do not work in 'ScreenGrab' application (except 'PrtScr' for 'Full screen' which seems hardcoded)

2021-04-24 Thread Sai Vinoba
Public bug reported:

Release: Lubuntu 21.04

Software, version: screengrab, 2.1.0-1ubuntu1

How to reproduce:
1) Boot into Lubuntu desktop.
2) Make sure keyboard shortcuts are set to 'ScreenGrab' application especially
for 'Active window' and 'Area select'. If not, select 'Options' from the
toolbar, navigate to 'Shortcuts' and set shortcuts.
3) Try to use the shortcuts for 'Full screen', 'Active window' or 'Area select'.

Expected:
Able to take respective screenshots.

Actual:
1) Not possible to take screenshots for 'Active window' or 'Area select' with
any shortcut keys set.
2) 'Full screen' screenshot works only with 'PrtScr' key, _irrespective of_
what key combination has been set.

Note:
This issue was also observed on 20.04 with screengrab version '2.0.0-1'.

[Bug 1925765] Re: [21.04 regression] networking broken in containers

2021-04-24 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this on a freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04
VM (that I grabbed with https://github.com/canonical/multipass on my
laptop running debian/bullseye).

I've replicated the registry example with the registry like this:

  ubuntu@accessible-liger:~$ podman run -d -p 5000:5000 --name registry
docker.io/registry:2
  40c86041d629bec154a29eadb00440cf5fa43d7acbd8e4ca5e1fc90dabd1a3ec

  ubuntu@accessible-liger:~$ curl -s localhost:5000/v2/ | jq
  {}

As for your network connectity issue:

root@accessible-liger:~# podman run --rm -it debian
  Resolved "debian" as an alias
(/etc/containers/registries.conf.d/shortnames.conf)
  Trying to pull docker.io/library/debian:latest...

  Get:4 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-updates InRelease [51.9 kB]
  Get:5 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 Packages [7907 kB]

I've tested both use-cases both in rootful and in rootless mode, both
worked fine for me.
