[Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS

2021-05-08 Thread Dan Muresan
Super, I was just looking for a way to build kernels in a Docker
container.

Maybe the Docker image could be modified to build dwarves for itself at
some point.

I think you can request more space for a PPA from launchpad.

[Bug 1926863] Re: gjs eats all available RAM and Freezes Computer

2021-05-08 Thread Arden Goldberg
I'm not quite certain what that means in this context, is a reproducer a
script meant to recreate the conditions of the bug?

I have temporarily solved the issue by noting that it seemed to begin
when the desktop was first drawn on screen, and running "sudo apt remove
gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng" and "sudo apt remove gnome-
shell-extension-desktop-icons". This is a bit inconvenient, but
functional.

[Bug 1927844] Re: lubuntu focal daily; using grub menu at boot freezes system

2021-05-08 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

reported against syslinux as iso.qa.ubuntu.com says to

- i'll add details when on a real keyboard
+ Lubuntu focal daily booted on
+ - sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)
+
+ to test for wifi bug..
+
+ On initial boot I get the grub options (which include safe graphics,
+ OEM)..
+
+ ** Expected outcome
+
+ I can use arrow keys to scroll up & down the boot options (start
+ lubuntu, safe graphics, OEM etc)
+
+ ** Actual outcome
+
+ If i use the arrow keys at this point - the system freezes and doesn't
+ recover. It was left sitting for ~20 mins at longs, at least 4
+ attempts.
+
+ ** Additional testing
+
+ If i boot the same ISO (thumb-drive) on another box, eg. I tested using
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+ - hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)
+
+ no issue was discovered (though dc7700 is BIOS, the sony is uEFI, but hp
+ 8200 is also uEFI though different firmware etc)

[Bug 1927831] Re: Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and Lubuntu 21.04)

2021-05-08 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better

I tested for this on hirsute (21.04)
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
(a QA-test install with almost no changes; only those required to confirm valid
QA install & working system)

Also use current impish live (QA-test)
- sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
(the sony has wifi only, dell has ethernet only)

and could not re-create this. I also don't recall seeing it either on
any of the boxes I QA-test with sorry (on focal thru hirsute cycles
which is over hundreds of tests)

I suspect the issue is specific to your hardware, thus apport-collect is
required. I realize you said you cannot apport-collect currently, but I
can't see how this can be worked on given the current lack of networking
hardware detail provided.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1927831

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1927807] [NEW] "https" address causes zsync download to fail with error 'could not read control file from URL'

2021-05-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

How to reproduce:
1. Go to cdimage.ubuntu.com, choose any flavor and navigate to release or
daily-live folder.
2. Copy (link address of) the .zsync file.
3. Open a terminal and try to perform zsync download with the copied zsync URL.

Expected:
Zsync download happens normally.

Actual:
Zsync download fails with error '...could not read control file from URL'.

Below is an example error (for Ubuntu 21.10 20210507 daily build iso):

```
zsync
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live/20210507/impish-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
failed on url
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live/20210507/impish-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
could not read control file from URL
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live/20210507/impish-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
```

If we change the protocol to `http` instead of `https` the zsync
function works.

This is happening for all flavors.

Suggested solution: Change/keep all zsync file's address to use `http`
till (if) zsync software supports `https` protocol.

[Bug 1927840] [NEW] [SRU] Update to 1.68.1

2021-05-08 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including many memory fixes
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/commits/1.68.1

[ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working, as well other
gjs based apps like polari or gnome-weather and maps

[ Regression potential ]

The way the objects are handled when (un)reffed from other threads or after
(and during) disposition changed a lot, so it could both cause:
 1. Leaks (memory waste in fact) if objects are kept referenced by gjs and not
released when nothing else
need them
 2. New crashes or dead-locks when objects are (un)reffed from other threads

[Bug 1754125] Re: Rhythmbox stays running in the background after quit

2021-05-08 Thread rduke15
This is a really ridiculous bug. In Ubuntu 20.04, you close the window,
and the music continues playing and there is no way to stop it! There is
no tray icon or anything where you can tell it to quit once you have
closed the main window.

Workaround for now:

pkill rhythmbox

or

Search for rythmbox in "Activities", open it, and then select "Stop
& Quit" in the menu.

Note that even "sudo apt purge rhythmbox" doesn't stop it playing !

[Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS

2021-05-08 Thread tuxinvader
I built a container for building mainline kernels. It build debs by
default, but it can also build signed source packages, but unfortunately
the sources are too big to be used with a PPA (they fill up the disk
during build).

There is another issue with building mainline on focal, and that's the
kernels require pahole >= 1.16 (from dwarves package). The groovy
version of dwarves can be installed on focal, or you can use my PPA
here: https://launchpad.net/~tuxinvader/+archive/ubuntu/lts-mainline

I was hoping to push my kernels to that PPA, but as I said - they're too
big for launchpad.

If you want an easy(ish) way to compile your own mainline packages you
can use this: https://hub.docker.com/r/tuxinvader/focal-mainline-
builder

[Bug 1913350] Re: Intel Wireless-AC 7260 (rev bb) wifi card crashes randomly

2021-05-08 Thread Przemek K.
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Intel Wireless-AC 7260 (rev bb) wifi card crashes randomly.
Sometimes after 1h of using my laptop, and sometimes after resuming from
sleep.
It can't work again until I reboot my laptop.
The most relevant error message is:
sty 25 14:42:13 leetbook kernel: iwlwifi :25:00.0: Failed to wake NIC for
hcmd
sty 25 14:42:13 leetbook kernel: iwlwifi :25:00.0: Error sending
STATISTICS_CMD: enqueue_hcmd failed: -5
I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 that was upgraded from 18.04 and earlier 16.04.
I've searched for similar bugs, but it looks like my error message and card
model is a bit different.

The workaround script from bug 1673344 works to fix the wifi without
rebooting.
The card works fine in Windows 10 so it's not a hardware issue.
This is not a stock card from HP EliteBook 8470w, I've replaced it to gain
Wifi 802.11ac transfer speeds.

Why is disable the facebook provider since it's current not working? its
because facebook did not want to use it on linux or safety issue?

[Bug 1927833] [NEW] Canon MX530 printer not recognised by CUPS

2021-05-08 Thread JWC
Public bug reported:

Trying to install a Canon MX530 on Ubuntu. None of the standard
interfaces work - they seem to register (IPP and LPD), but the printer
does not react to test pages or a simple text file.

Why is it so complicated on Ubuntu? Windows recognised the printer with
almost no input from me.

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Park
[Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470]

I was able to test it with 3 different kernels :
Code:

5.12.1-051201-generic # last mainline kernel
5.11.0-16-generic # last official kernel from hirsute
5.8.0-50-generic # probably a old kernel still there from groovy

Only the older one, 5.8.0-50-generic was working correctly with dual
monitor with no issues.

Kind regards

[Bug 1927831] [NEW] Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and Lubuntu 21.04)

2021-05-08 Thread Piotr
Public bug reported:

Dear Community,

I have problem with Network Manager GUI. On Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and
Lubuntu 21.04 when I click left mouse button on the icon of network
manager this didn't work and window is not showed. Only right click of
the mouse is working on this icon. I don't know if it problem with LXQt
or with all Desktop Environments on focal. I checked and on Fedora 34
Spins this works normally and like we knot this disto also use LXQt so I
think that this is not problem with LXQt itself. Can you fix it?

My distro: Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (without updates, clear iso downloaded
from ubuntu mirror and booted for testing)

P.S. I can't report bug with apport because my wi-fi didn't work on live
session because I can't remember my password.

Yours faithfully,
Piotr

This same problem is on another distro with LXQt and SDDM package. I
checked this with Fedora 34 LXQt Spin and I have identical issue. So
this is not only problem with Lubuntu.

[Bug 1927830] [NEW] HiDPI Yaru window controls are tiny after reboot

2021-05-08 Thread Larry Bushey
Public bug reported:

Information:
1. Distribution Release: Ubuntu MATE 21.04
2. Package: mate-control-center 1.24.2-0ubuntu1
3. Theme: Yaru-MATE-dark

Expected result: Window controls (buttons) for all themes retain HiDPI scaling
after reboot.
Actual result: When using HiDPI and either the Yaru-MATE-dark or
Yaru-MATE-light theme, after reboot, the window controls are not sized with
correct scaling. They appear tiny.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select Yaru theme.
2. Select HiDPI display resolution.
3. Select HiDPI scaling in MATE Tweak.
4. Restart computer.

Workaround:
1. Open MATE Tweak.
2. Select 'Regular' scaling. (Selecting 'Auto' does not work to fix it.)
3. Select 'HiDPI' scaling.

Result:
Window controls are now scaled correctly.

[Bug 1925010] Re: shim-signed 15.4 does not boot on EFI 1.10 systems

2021-05-08 Thread Alexander Browne
I tested on a MacBookPro9,2 (13-Inch, Mid-2012).

0. I clean installed from the 21.04 release image
(http://releases.ubuntu.com/21.04/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso). FWIW
I made my usual choices

- Minimal installation

- Download updates…
- Install third-party software…

- Erase disk and install Ubuntu

1. Restarting after the install, the computer showed a gray screen and
never booted up as per the original issue.

2. I booted again from the install media, opened the live session, did
the workaround steps from #14 and booted into the Ubuntu 21.04
installation.

3. I enabled -proposed and ran `sudo apt install shim-signed` to upgrade
that package to version 1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2.

4. I tested booting several times – cold boots, restarts and holding the
option key to load the Mac boot menu – and the computer always boots
normally.

5. FWIW I also then ran `sudo apt full-upgrade` to install the other
available updates and the computer had continued to boot normally.

[Bug 1921593] Re: do-release-upgrade fails with no error

2021-05-08 Thread Malte Jan Kaffenberger
Thank you for the hints, Brian!

There are some things I noticed which may have lead to the error:

- I had packages installed from 20.04 already
- packages from bionic were pinned to lower priority

The upgrade succeeded after removing the pin.

This issue can be closed I guess.

[Bug 1927827] [NEW] Error launching cheese: Native Windows taller than 65535 pixels are not supported

2021-05-08 Thread PJSingh5000
Public bug reported:

Attempting to run cheese on a HDPI display in Wayland results in the
following errors:

(cheese:9303): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 10:29:11.221:
gdk_wayland_window_set_dbus_properties_libgtk_only: assertion
'GDK_IS_WAYLAND_WINDOW (window)' failed

(cheese:9303): Gdk-WARNING **: 10:29:11.265: Native Windows taller than
65535 pixels are not supported

When this error happens, the cheese window does not open.

Sometimes the "Native Windows ... not supported" does not occur, the
cheese window does open. However, the photo area is black. I can work
around this problem by changing the "Photo resolution" in preferences to
a different value, and then changing it back.

2021-05-08 Thread PJSingh5000
My laptop's native resolution is:

   3840x2160

and this is what I have selected as the display output in GNOME.

I am using 200% scaling.

3) is fine, but can you guarantee the detached information will always
be available?

Having the required data in the ld.so file itself would be best.
