[Bug 1928860] Re: Recovery key is low-entropy

2021-05-27 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
This is being worked on. In summary the following changes will be done in 21.10:
- The length of the generated numerical key will be increased to 48 digits
(like bitlocker)
- It will be optional
- It will be editable and accept letters, digits and special characters.

[Bug 1929229] Re: Please merge gnutls28 3.7.1-4 (main) from Debian unstable

2021-05-27 Thread Brian Murray
I've gone ahead and uploaded this for impish but I made one modification
to the changelog entry. I dropped the line regarding "* Merge CVE fixes
CVE-2021-20231 CVE-2021-20232" because there isn't anything different
about the Ubuntu version of the package from Debian. We can see that
those CVE fixes were included in Debian.

gnutls28 (3.7.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version
Fixes potential use-after-free in sending "key_share" and "pre_shared_key"
extensions. GNUTLS-SA-2021-03-10. CVE-2021-20231 CVE-2021-20232
  * Upload to unstable.

I'm not sure why a previous uploader added that line to their changelog
but it seems unnecessary.

That part is probably not a bug. A well-written player ideally should
not be using the Blitter. You just need 'Video' for decoding the video
and 'Render/3D' for putting it on screen. Using 'Blitter' possibly means
gstreamer is using too much software rendering, somewhere. That's a bug
in gstreamer.

[Bug 1896578] Re: raid10: Block discard is very slow, causing severe delays for mkfs and fstrim operations

2021-05-27 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Evan,

As I mentioned in my previous message, I submitted the patches to the
Ubuntu kernel mailing list for SRU.

These patches have now gotten 2 acks [1][2] from senior kernel team
members, and the patches have now been applied [3] to the 4.15, 5.4, 5.8
and 5.11 kernels.

[1] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120475.html
[2] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120799.html
[3] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-May/120800.html

This is what is going to happen next. Next week, between the 31st of May
and 4th of June, the kernel team will build the next kernel update, and
place it in -proposed for testing.

As soon as these kernels enter -proposed, we need to install and test
Raid10 in these new kernels as much as possible. The testing and
verification window is between the 7th and 18th of June.

If all goes well, we can mark the launchpad bug as verified, and we will
see a release to -updates around the 21st of June, give or take a few
days if any CVEs turn up.

The schedule is on https://kernel.ubuntu.com/ if anything were to
change.

I will write back once the next kernel update is in -proposed, likely
early to mid next week. I would really, really appreciate it if you
could help test the kernels when they arrive in -proposed, as I really
don't want to introduce any more regressions.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 1925529] Re: "ReleaseNotesViewer" does not display anything with the text view

2021-05-27 Thread Brian Murray
Because Impish doesn't appear in meta-release-development yet I had to
get a little creative by editing the URI for the meta-release file e.g.:

 $ head /etc/update-manager/meta-release
# default location for the meta-release file

[METARELEASE]
#URI = https://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release
URI =
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/meta-release/ubuntu/download/269/meta-release
URI_LTS = https://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release-lts
URI_UNSTABLE_POSTFIX = -development
URI_PROPOSED_POSTFIX = -proposed

Revision 269 had impish in m-r-d. After doing that I was able to verify
that the ReleaseAnnouncement is displayed with the version of ubuntu-
release-upgrader from -proposed. See the attached screenshot for
evidence!

[Bug 1918008] Re: 2 network icons on taskbar - Lubuntu 18.04.5

2021-05-27 Thread Chris Guiver
This bug report is about 2 network icons on taskbar on package that is
now EOL; nothing will happen.

If the issue also occurs in Lubuntu 20.04 LTS that is supported; the
software stack is very different (different desktop for starters) so a
new bug should be filed.

> How I can help you with find fix for this issue?

Each issue should be in it's own bug report; unless the issues are
linked. This report makes me think of `lxpanel` (given it's
notifications appearing on the panel) however that has nothing to do
with video/blanking screen... By keeping a report about a single issue,
it's easier to work out the package where the bug impacts (lubuntu-meta
is a catch all for unknown bugs, as its a package that won't generally
be changed post-release)

Once I've worked out the package involved (often with help on bug
reports here, or IRC etc; #lubuntu or #lubuntu-devel on libera.chat for
lubuntu issues on supported releases) I tend to test in later releases
(esp. the latest) and see if it's an issue there. Developers work on
the development release (only back-porting security fixes to stable
releases) so that's where you get their attention.

If the issue occurs in the development release (currently impish), I
then will test in another different environment (eg. for me it's
opensuse tumbleweed, debian testing or fedora rawhide; some may be
helpful (up-to-date) at times they won't be (eg. debian is currently in
freeze), but if you find the issue in other OSes with latest software..
you can then file the bug upstream (where the fix flows down to all
distributions). Upstream generally only care about bugs when filed
about the latest release of their software

Launchpad allows you to link upstream reports if you get that far, but
if you can't find it, just adding the URL to the report is enough so its
documented.

This bug was filed on a Lubuntu package, our current wiki page on bug
reporting can be viewed at https://phab.lubuntu.me/w/bugs/ (note: it
still has the LXDE-LXQt comparison table which may be removed when a
change is next required to the document) which is useful to narrow down
which Lubuntu package maybe involved.

FYI: To test the latest without requiring an install; you can use
dailies (currently created for focal (what will be 20.04.3) and impish
(what will be 21.10 on release)) which can be used without installation
(https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/what-is-a-lubuntu-live-session-test/1672
maybe useful if you're not aware of the concept; the thread is still
open so if the question is related to testing modern Lubuntu I can be
reached there too). Dailies are a great way to test for issues on
different hardware too to gain more details for bug reports.

Your configuration is pointing to a nonexistent certificate somewhere in
the configuration.

This is the relevant section in your logs:

[Bug 1923256] Re: Unable to Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04

2021-05-27 Thread Fernando Maia
Hi,
Sorry to only report on this, but the machine was at another location. Before
trying the:

do-release-upgrade -p

I updated the system with the latest updates (had not been updated since
the time I reported the problem) and tried to run the normal:

do-release-upgrade

Something was changed by the recent updates, because it is running the
upgrade now. Maybe the new version of the "do-release-upgrade" package
solved it.

If you need any info from this system, please let me know.

Will Post again after the upgrade ends.

[Bug 1917101] Re: Booting into desktop results in flickering (also when I turn off and next turn on display)

2021-05-27 Thread Piotr
** Description changed:

  Dear Launchpad Community,

I have problem with my display on all version of Ubuntu system. It
doesn't matter what version I will install. I checked this on Ubuntu
18.04.5, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 20.04.1, Lubuntu 18.04.5. My screen is
flashing for one second when I boot my system or if I will turn off and
next turn on my display. My screen is flashing (white image) for one
second. What is a problem? I think that this can be driver problem or
with kernel itself. I have this same problem on other computer. On both
computers I have Radeon graphic card.

  Version: 1:19.1.0-1~18.04.1

I hope that you can help and fix it. I don't have this issue on Windows
  family system.

Normally when I will boot my system or my display was turn off and next
turn on I shouldn't notice flickering of my display but it is happen.

This can be problem with radeon driver or linux kernel itself.

I maked some videos from two machines with other operating systems.

  1) Old notebook with Lubuntu 18.04:

  - booting (0:24 issue is shown): https://youtu.be/5ZfDxHV4A2s
  - turn off/turn on display (this same issue): https://youtu.be/Dn8WG-O2r10

  2) Other machine with Ubuntu 18.04 this have also old Ati Radeon card:
  - booting (0:14 issue is shown): https://youtu.be/oZ2dCiHHB2Y
  - turn off/turn on display (this same issue): https://youtu.be/8s0sBYdnKzw

You can see that both machines is affected by this same issue but in
first machine this issue is most visible. I hope that this help and you
can now fix this issue or report it. I think that this issue is for
radeon driver but you maybe have more knowledge about it.

I hope that you can help. If it is needed more information then you can
  ask me.

-
- I founded on askubuntu some solution. I can add to the GRUB nomodeset option
and this help me for the one of the machines. Flickers is gone but system works
slower and with lower resolution. On my machine with RS880M this option is not
possible because this cause problems with my hardware and I can see artefacts
so I will not try use this nomodeset option anymore.

2021-05-27 Thread Piotr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1917101 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1917101

I marked this like duplicate because it is duplicate in real. Very sorry
for problem.

** Description changed:

  Dear Launchpad Community,

I have problem with my display on all version of Ubuntu system. It
doesn't matter what version I will install. I checked this on Ubuntu
18.04.5, Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 20.04.1, Lubuntu 18.04.5. My screen is
- flashing for one second when I boot my system or if I will logout from
- the session. This same problem when I will log in to the session. My
- screen is flashing (white image) for one second. What is a problem? I
- think that this can be driver problem or with kernel itself. I have this
- same problem on other computer. On both computers I have Radeon graphic
- card.

[Bug 1867465] Re: Installer disconnects wifi (after choosing download while installing, 3rd party)

2021-05-27 Thread MarkF
@Piotr, I've given up on this. I was less concerned about security than
I was about the user experience. If the installer knows it's going to
drop the connection, why not inform the user of this? It's really
unnerving to have your connection drop, and think there's some kind of
bug going on. It's little satisfaction to learn later it's not a bug.

I don't know what it is with *buntu, but I've given up. They don't care
about attracting more people. It's a circle-the-wagons approach. I say
it to anyone who will listen: Re-open Bug#1. *buntu has lost its way.
Shuttleworth should look at his contemporaries (who've moved on to
launching cars into space, and being the richest men in the world). He
should ask why he got left behind. Windows 10 was a windfall to the
Linux Desktop, and we're still missing the point.

I've moved on to a non-buntu based distro. Peace be upon all.

[Bug 1929880] [NEW] php-twig 3.x in circular build dependency situation with symfony 5

2021-05-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

php-symfony-string is a new package introduced in symfony 5, but not in
symfony 4. This package is required by php-twig 3.x for running its
testsuite during the build process. Unfortunately, symfony 5 itself
depends on three new packages introduced in php-twig 3. Thus, there is
a circular dependency between these packages during build.

Since php-twig only requires php-symfony-string for its testsuite, a
possible way to sidestep the problem is to temporarily skip running php-
twig's testsuite, allowing the php-symfony-string dependency to be
temporarily dropped.

Then, once this bootstrapped php-twig is in -proposed, symfony should
hopefully complete its build. At that point we should be able to revert
the php-twig testsuite disablement and re-upload it to build with the
testsuite, and carry on from there.

[Bug 1928600] Re: [amdgpu] Gnome locks up with artifacts on screen and [drm:amdgpu_dm_commit_planes [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Waiting for fences timed out!

2021-05-27 Thread Paul Tansom
Thought I'd better give an update on progress from my end. The above
task is proving more of a challenge than hoped (not helped by time out
on customer sites using different hardware).

The stock 5.8 series kernel (linux-image-5.8.0-53-generic) is
reasonably, but not completely, stable. I can generally manage a few
days without a lock up and that is pretty much always on a resume or
suspend. The issue gets progressively worse as the kernel version
increases so I decided to start with the 5.11 series. The first
available to download was RC2, and that ran fine for most of a day, but
then locked up on a resume and several reboots failed to get to the
desktop, so instead of moving on to RC3 as I was expecting I'm backing
off to the 5.8 series RC2 to start from there and work my way up. Given
how long it can be between lock ups even on the current version this may
be a slightly long winded process - hence adding some notes now.

[Bug 1929870] [NEW] AMD desktop often fails to resume from deep suspend

2021-05-27 Thread Jacob Abrams
Public bug reported:

Machine setup:

Desktop PC
Ubuntu 21.04
Linux version 5.11.0-17-generic
AMD Ryzen 3900X
Asus X590 PRIME PRO motherboard
NVIDIA P400 GPU

Approximately one in every 4 attempts to resume from a deep suspend
fails. When the issue occurs the fans spin up but the monitor displays
no output and input devices do not function, the system appears frozen
and must be restarted using power or reset buttons.

I have tried using different dNVIDIA isplay drivers (proprietary as well
as open source) as well as trying an AMD Radeon HD 6450 GPU instead of
the NVIDIA GPU.

I have tried the following kernel parameters: processor.max_cstate=1
rcu_nocbs=0-23

I have updated the BIOS several times.

I had similar problems with Ubuntu 20.10.

I have enabled some additional kernel logging with initcall_debug.

Fairly consistently the last message printed in the kernel log is from
the ethernet driver:

[Bug 1152187] Re: [MIR] systemd

2021-05-27 Thread Steve Beattie
Yes, the systemd-container package will end up in main, likely for the
current package in bionic-updates, and thus will be reflected that way
in rmadison etc.

For the record, ack from the Ubuntu Security Team on promoting the
systemd-container binary from universe to main in bionic.

Thanks.

[Bug 1929868] Re: Should nvidia-driver-XXX-server stop recommending nvidia-settings?

2021-05-27 Thread Camille Rodriguez
That situation occurs as well when installing nvidia-utils-* (in my case
nvidia-utils-450-server), which installs nvidia-settings. See
https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/nvidia-settings/. This
requirement is optional and should be omitted on servers, as the same
issue will occur (hibernation, unreachable node, very difficult to
recover)

[Bug 1927004] Re: [MIR] fence-agents

2021-05-27 Thread Dan Streetman
Yep this is just waiting on security team review.

Also just for easy clarification for the archive admin reading this
later, the packages to promote to main are:

- fence-agents-common
- fence-agents-base

The packages to leave in universe are:

- fence-agents (transitional package)
- fence-agents-extra

[Bug 1929865] [NEW] autopkgtests fail due to precise being removed from the archive

2021-05-27 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

The autopkgtests for update-manager are failing on stable releases. The
test is checking for an upgrade from Lucid to Precise but Precise has
been removed from the archive. This change updates the test so it uses
Bionic and Focal both of which will be supported longer than Hirsute.

[Test Case]
verify the autopkgtest passes

[Bug 1929865] Re: autopkgtests fail due to precise being removed from the archive

2021-05-27 Thread Brian Murray
This has been fixed in impish by switching to use python3-distro-info
but for any stable releases let's just change the release name in the
test.

update-manager (1:21.10.2) impish; urgency=medium

  * debian/changelog: Fix the date in an old changelog entry. (LP: #1927850)
  * tests/test_meta_release_core.py: use distro_info to determine a supported
release to test instead of Lucid which was hardcoded.

[Bug 1828534] Re: [19.04][Queens -> Rocky] Upgrading to Rocky resulted in "Services not running that should be: designate-producer"

2021-05-27 Thread Drew Freiberger
I also experienced this on 2 of 3 units of designate running 21.01
charms upgrading from cloud:bionic-stein to cloud:bionic-train with
action-managed-upgrade=false.

Interestingly, the unit that did not exhibit this race was not the
leader.

I've got an SOSreport available if interested.

[Bug 1929802] Re: Log information on ubuntu login screen

2021-05-27 Thread Dave Jones
The Ubuntu Pi images are modified Ubuntu Cloud images and as such they
use cloud-init for their initial configuration. On the very first boot,
there's quite a bit more output than this (from cloud-init) confirming
it's created users, imported SSH keys, or whatever else it's been set up
to do (via user-data on the boot partition). However, on subsequent
boots it also outputs these lines indicating that it's run but had
nothing to do (cloud-init can be set to run things on subsequent boots
but doesn't by default).

I don't know the reason for this specifically, but I'd hazard a guess
that the fact it's on the console would be for debugging reasons. For
the very first boot it's actually rather useful given that getty (the
process that produces the login prompt) typically executes *before*
cloud-init completes and thus the cloud-init output serves to prompt
when the initial user has been created (permitting login). However, on
subsequent boots it is (at least superficially) needless output.

[Bug 1905387] Re: samba-common-bin should call systemd-tmpfiles before testparm

2021-05-27 Thread Athos Ribeiro
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

The samba-common-bin postinst script relies on the presence of the
/run/samba directory. This directory will not be available unless samba-
common-bin is installed right after samba-common, whose postinst script
  creates /run/samba. Although samba-common-bin Depends on samba-common,
reducing the risk of an user hitting the described bug, samba-common
only Recommends samba-common-bin, making the following case possible:

The user installs samba-common. Then, the user removes samba-common-bin.
Then the user reboots the system (which removes /run/samba created
during samba-common installation). Finally, the user installs samba-
common-bin, which results in a postinst script failure.

For the case described above, restarting the system and reconfiguring
(or running the installation again) should fix the issue, since the
samba-common-bin systemd-tmpfiles configuration would now create
  /run/samba (running systemd-tmpfiles --create for the samba-common-bin
  would also work).

The proposed patch cherry picks commit 0c3b205 from Debian to run
systemd-tempfiles before the testparm call and applies further changes
so the #DEBHELPER# tag can be expanded using debhelper compat 12.
Aditionally, it introduces an autopkgtest test case for the fixed issue.

  [Test Plan]

- Run the following steps:
+ To reproduce the issue, run the following steps:

  # apt install samba-common
  # apt remove samba-common-bin

Reboot the system and verify that the /run/samba directory no longer
  exists

  Run

  # apt install samba-common-bin

This command should exit with a non-zero status, as described in the
- original bug report
+ original bug report.
+
+ After applying the proposed changes, performing the steps above should
+ result in a successful exit status for the last command.

  [Where problems could occur]

There are 2 changes to be considered here. The one to d/rules and the
  one to d/samba-common-bin.postinst

The change to d/rules makes the #DEBHELPER# tag, moved in the change to
  d/samba-common-bin.postinst to actually generate code.

The generated code is making a call to systemd-tmpfiles, which is
provided by the systemd package. However, samba-common-bin does not
  deppend on systemd.

  Here is the generated snippet:

  # Automatically added by dh_installsystemd/12.10ubuntu1
  if [ "$1" = "configure" ] || [ "$1" = "abort-upgrade" ] || [ "$1" =
"abort-deconfigure" ] || [ "$1" = "abort-remove" ] ; then
- # In case this system is running systemd, we need to ensure that all
- # necessary tmpfiles (if any) are created before starting.
- if [ -d /run/systemd/system ] ; then
-   systemd-tmpfiles --create samba.conf >/dev/null || true
- fi
+  # In case this system is running systemd, we need to ensure that all
+  # necessary tmpfiles (if any) are created before starting.
+  if [ -d /run/systemd/system ] ; then
+   systemd-tmpfiles --create samba.conf >/dev/null || true
+  fi
  fi
  # End automatically added section

The snipped showed above does check for evidence that systemd-tmpfiles
is available in the system, although it does not make such check
directly. However, in case /run/systemd/system is available and systemd-
tmpfiles is not, the postinst script will not fail at that point. Still,
if the systemd-tmpfiles command does not run, the issue this SRU is
fixing will still manifest itself under the described conditions (which
is true for hirsute, impish, and Debian stable as well).

  [Other Info]

This issue was already fixed in Debian unstable and, consequently, in
  Ubuntu hirsute and impish.

[Bug 1929859] Re: wine and wine-development FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5

2021-05-27 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
OK, I've posted both patches now.

You will notice that they are basically the same; this is because both
projects share the same orig tarball (or at least a very big part of
it).

These patches introduce a rename of the "ldap_connect" function (which
is now present on OpenLDAP 2.5 as well) to something else in order to
prevent the FTBFS. You can find a PPA with both packages built (along
with OpenLDAP 2.5) here:

https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-
service/+archive/ubuntu/4559/+packages

The patches are "backported" from a solution provided by one of the Wine
developers. This solution is not upstream and I don't know if it will
be adopted or not, because the development version of wine fixed this
problem using another approach (which is much harder to backport).
Having said that, I talked to the Debian Wine maintainer and he told me
he plans to update both wine and wine-development on Debian until the
end of the year. Once he does that, we won't need these patches
anymore.
