[Bug 1932175] Re: [21.10 FEAT] CPU Model for new IBM Z Hardware - qemu part

2021-08-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the Tests Christian!
And in case anyone wonders, the qemu in proposed is ready and just held back by
glibc 2.34. Once that migrates to -release qemu and many other components will
follow.

[Bug 1940233] Re: cloud-init in impish makes /home/ubuntu/.ssh root.root

2021-08-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
While this is important and fixed in the SRU upload of bug 1940871 - the bad
code never reached Bionic/Focal/Hirsute as it was in the interim 21.3 versions.
Therefore the bug starte for these releases is invalid (it isn't there now, and
won't be added in the ongoing SRU).
Setting the states to invalid.

[Bug 1941036] [NEW] Add USB4 support for AMD SoC

2021-08-24 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
AMD request to backport USB4 support patches.

[Fix]
Add some quirks/fixes for AMD USB4 controller.

[Test]
I don't have the hardware, so it requires AMD to validate the backport.

[Where problems could occur]
- The enumeration of switch ports is changed, the effect is unknown.
- The QUIRK_AUTO_CLEAR_INT is only applied to Intel TBT controller. I've
heard that Asmedia also produces TBT controllers but I've never seen
one. So the change will affect other vendor's TBT controller, if they
  exist.

So only apply it to Impish, Unstable and OEM-5.13 to limit regression
risk.

It doesn't break Intel Thunderbolt per my limited testing.

Thanks for the bug report. Please try adding this kernel parameter:

and reboot.

[Bug 1940113] Re: Linux 5.11.0-25 & 5.11.0-27 panic when boot with thunderbolt dock connected

2021-08-24 Thread Chris Chiu
So the mainline 5.14 works for you even with 2 monitors connected, right?
Then could you help me find out which version starts to have this problem by
testing the kernel in the url down below?
https://people.canonical.com/~mschiu77/lp1940113/H/
https://people.canonical.com/~mschiu77/lp1940113/I/

Just let me know the test result and paste the journal log here if the
system freeze after reboot. Thanks

[Bug 1940450] Re: XSS The data-template attribute of the tooltip and popover plugins lacks input sanitization and may allow attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript.

2021-08-24 Thread Seth Arnold
I inspected some of the python3-xstatic-bootstrap-scss package:

./python-xstatic-bootstrap-
scss_3.3.7.1-5/xstatic/pkg/bootstrap_scss/data/js/bootstrap/tooltip.js

While the header sure looks related, I couldn't find *any* hints that
the patch from
https://github.com/twbs/bootstrap/pull/28236/commits/5efa9b531d25927b907e3fa24b818608bc38a2f0
is remotely related. If they are related, that file has changed pretty
drastically in the meantime.

Jeremy, can I ask, how confident you are that that package contains a
version of the bootstrap tooltips that needs to be updated to address
this flaw? (I only found one user of this package, python3-vitrage-
dashboard -- with just one user, it might also justify a similar "is
this even an issue?" sort of check.)

Thanks

[Bug 1930945] Re: [nouveau] ubuntu desktop - changing display configuration lost wallpaper (trap messages filled dmesg)

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Getting bogged down in nouveau kernel bugs probably isn't helpful to
testing 21.10. We know nouveau has frequent bugs and that we can't fix
them, unless they're already fixed in drm-tip per comment #10.

If you would like to test 21.10 then I recommend changing the graphics
card to one that is supported by current Nvidia proprietary drivers.

If you would like to just use the machine as-is then I would recommend
staying on Ubuntu 20.04 which has a supported version of the Nvidia-340
driver for this card (providing you stick to kernel 5.4?).

[Bug 1921518] Re: OpenSSL "double free" error

2021-08-24 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
The updated openssl package does not change any behaviour w.r.t. config
or engine use. It only has three patches applied to prevent potential
use-after-free errors. It also relies on installing the new PKA engine
with patches from github.

Has the new PKA engine been recompiled and installed correctly?

When installed on my system, the engines configured continued to be
used, and I can observe PKA debug output when using `openssl s_client
-connect` or `curl`.

Note, that `speed` command, by default does not use engines, even when
configured in /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf. One must pass `-engine ID` option to
it to use an engine.

[Bug 1940761] Re: multi-monitor edges still sticky with Sticky Edges turned off

2021-08-24 Thread Charles Meo
Please close this bug. Found this old thread which still works:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/462629/how-to-disable-sticky-edges-in-ubuntu-14-04-ubuntu-13-10-and-earlier-had-a-opti

The workaround there is to use ccsm to set Edge Stop Velocity to 0 -- it
actually won't set it less than 1, but it works well enough.

Still unclear, though, why this has re-surfaced after 7 years, and why
turning off sticky edges doesn't do this.

** Description changed:

  Just upgraded to this:
  `
  DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
  DISTRIB_RELEASE=20.04
  DISTRIB_CODENAME=focal
  DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS"
  `

I've turned off sticky edges but they're still sticky--sometimes!
- What's weird about this is that it's only a problem going from the primary
(lower) monitor to the secondary (higher). I have them set in an 'above and
below' configuration, not horizontal.

[Bug 1926938] Re: Recent mainline packages are built with Hirsuite 21.04, not Focal 20.04 LTS

2021-08-24 Thread DanglingPointer
Good stuff @Jens Glathe!

I recommend everyone stuck to just build it and they'll see it work
perhaps even better than before, especially if you start natively
optimising the build against your hardware. Your OS kernel will make
your system feel and run snappier!

This is my build command post configuration (GCC)...
$ time KCFLAGS="-march=native -msse2avx -pipe -O3" KCPPFLAGS="-march=native
-msse2avx -pipe -O3" make -j$(( $(nproc) + 1 )) deb-pkg
LOCALVERSION=-danglingpointer-zen3-optimised

This is my build command post CLANG configuration with LTO...
time KCFLAGS="-march=native -pipe -O3" KCPPFLAGS="-march=native -pipe -O3" make
-j$(( $(nproc) + 1 )) LLVM=1 LLVM_IAS=1 deb-pkg
LOCALVERSION=-danglingpointer-zen3-clang-ltothin

For Clang LTO=thin you will need to configure for it.
1) prep the config using the config from Ubuntu Mainline. Basically just copy
it and then $ make olddefconfig
2) scripts/config -e LTO_CLANG_THIN
3) run the clang make command above with KCFLAGS.

Check phoronix for GCC(all versions) vs CLANG-12

Only problem I have with CLANG is that it can bugger up any DKMS
programs you may have. Virtualbox is an example which is geared towards
GCC. I have CLANG built linux kernels running everywhere except
wherever I have Virtualbox. There I use GCC-11.

[Bug 1919451] Re: Update (python-)zhmcclient to latest release

2021-08-24 Thread Frank Heimes
@Brian, no, and this is unfortunately currently not possible, because:
- we (incl. the MAAS team) do not have access to the remote z14 development
system anymore (that we got from IBM)
- and we (incl. MAAS team) are not able to do more testing on our own system,
zhmcclient in combination with MAAS, since MAAS (for LPARs) requires a Z system
where the HMC runs in DPM mode, and our HMC is running in traditional mode (so
not running in DPM mode) - and switching the mode is destructive.
(Well, we may get a new system later this year that will be in DPM mode - but
tbh. I imploringly hope that we don't need to wait for this.)
From my point-of-view we did the most testing that is possible in the current
situation and with the resources available.

I attached a slightly-simpler C-language reproducer for the bug, derived

outputs "a.out: regexec.c:1375: pop_fail_stack: Assertion `num >= 0'

This test case silently returns the wrong answer

Following up on a 'grep' bug report here:

https://debbugs.gnu.org/29613

attached is a seemingly-related test case which illustrates a bug that
causes 'grep' to quietly return the wrong answer instead of dumping
core. This test case should exit successfully, but because of the bug
regexec returns 0 so the test case exits with status 1. I compiled and
ran it on Fedora 27 x86-64 with "gcc regbug.c; ./a.out".

[Bug 1939565] Re: kernel signed by mok failed to boot if secure boot is on

2021-08-24 Thread Steve Langasek
The original bug report does not say how the MOK has been generated.

If it is generated using the maintainer script integrations in shim-
signed (the update-secureboot-policy command), note that the openssl
config in /usr/lib/shim/mok/openssl.cnf generates a key which is
specifically annotated as only being allowed for signing modules, NOT
kernels. It is invalid to use this dkms key for signing kernels, you
would need to generate another key (as shown in various comments in this
bug report) that does not have the EKU set to say it's only for modules.

It is possible that an earlier version of shim was not enforcing this
constraint and that's why it worked for you before upgrade.

[Bug 1941003] [NEW] Installer inaccessible to Orca screen reader

2021-08-24 Thread Dave Hunt
Public bug reported:

In Impish (canary), when attempting to use the installer with the Orca
screen reader for accessibility, Orca cannot determine the states or
roles of the form controls, and they all appear as 'grayed'. When I
select an item, no feedback is given. To reproduce: start the Orca
screen reader, on the live system, and select "install" option. Move
among the locale selector. Orca will read the language name and add
"frame grayed". Select one by hitting the space bar on it. Orca should
read "selected", but it remains silent. When you tab among the options,
you'll eventually hear that you are on the 'next' button, yet, it, too,
will be described as "grayed". The behavior described here will appear
on all pages of the installer wizard.

[Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

2021-08-24 Thread Dan Streetman
> we should be careful to ignore NICs with randomly generated MACs (see
bug 1936972).

ugh nics with LAA?

yeah, it can be hard to 'uniquely' identify a nic, especially since it's
so common to clone macs for bonds, bridges, vlans, and in some cases
even duplicate hw devices with the same nic (e.g. bug 1843381).

> My initial thought is that perhaps subiquity installs should do what
MAAS installs do and configure netplan to always use the install-time
names.

I'm generally not a fan of how MAAS configures netplan to force-rename
interfaces; that sounds to me like it's destined for interface naming
collisions. But I don't have any better immediate suggestion for
'foolproof' matching of all possible nics that might exist across all
kernel driver versions, either.
