[Bug 1897835] Re: Unable to install qemu-kvm from proposed on Focal s390x

2021-10-11 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Po-Hsu,
I have looked out for this kind of issues but it never re-appeared in any of my
tests nor can it be reproduced. By now I'd assume it was some kind of
out-of-sync archive in your case.

I'll mark this incomplete, but if you have since then found a way to
reliable recreate the issue let me know.

[Bug 1944946] Re: Path of open-vm-tools libdeployPkgPlugin.so is now multi-arch compliant breaking cloud-init

2021-10-11 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Xiaofeng,
cloud-init releases regularly across Ubuntu - so even older releases will pick
up the change with the next round of cloud-init updates. Unless the plan has
changed that would be in a few weeks [1] plus some time to make it into SRUs
from there.

But in addition I think we should also SRU the mitigation we've added to
21.10 open-vm-tools to ensure there is no other (than cloud-init) SW
broken by this. I'll therefore prep these SRUs despite a fix in cloud-
init coming as well.

[Bug 1946691] Re: using xorg driver for graphics card prevents suspend

2021-10-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1946691/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1944094] Re: Can't adjust screen backlight on Legion Slim 7 AMD

2021-10-11 Thread Shaun
This seems to also effect the Legion 5 15ach6 (AMD) There are two
versions of the legion 5, the 2020 version and the 2021 version. It
seems that this issue is fixed on the 2020 version by adding the kernel
parameter amdgpu.backlight=0 but I can confirm that this does not fix
the issue on the 2021 version, so its likely that the 2021 laptop is
suffering from whatever this issue is. I'm guessing that the MUX switch
is involved in one way or another, as it means that the NVIDIA dGPU does
not have to pass frames through the AMD iGPU, it connects to the display
separately, and I'm not sure which GPU actually has control over the
brightness control. I wonder if the brightness isn't tied to either GPU,
maybe its a separate system entirely?

[Bug 1938299] Re: Unable to SSH Into Instance when deploying Impish 21.10

2021-10-11 Thread Chad Smith
To clarify the actual root cause here and reflect it back to this
original bug.

   google-guest-agent defines a `PartOf=` relationship with systemd-
networkd.service[1]. This relationship means that if systemd-
networkd.service is either stopped, google-guest-agent.service gets
stopped. When systemd-networkd.service is restarted, so is google-guest-
agent.

But if systemd-networkd.service is subsequently started after a previous
stop call, google-guest-agent is left in stopped state. The call
`netplan apply` (emitted by cloud-init after writing network config) in
fact calls systemctl stop systemd-networkd.service and follows it with a
'start' instead of directly invoking systemctl restart systemd-
networkd.service[2]. This leaves google-guest in stopped state
indefinitely.

I'm not entirely sure netplan can fix this issue due to some other
cleanup they are doing between networkd stop and start, but I have
reflected this bug to netplan.io folks and we'll see what the consensus
is about whether this can be resolved with instrumenting a "systemctl
restart" instead of separate "systemctl stop" and "systemctl start"
calls.

[Bug 1942307] Re: ubiquity uses performance mode for nvidia driver

** Description changed:

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Install 20.04.3 with "Third-party packages" on a system which containing a
RTD3 supported nvidia card.
  2. After the installation, press enter to reboot system
  3. prime-select query

  [Expected result]
  on-demand

  [Actual result]
  performance

  ---

  It's because ubiquity launches `ubuntu-drivers install --packages-list
...` in live system but install each package to target storage.

When installing nvidia-prime, the preinst set "on" to "/etc/prime-
discrete" which will be referred by gpu-manager. The gpu-manager will
  set to performance mode.

After confirming with Alberto on Mattermost, since we don't have a
nvidia driver which lower than 450 version since focal.

I think we are ok to switch to on-demand mode.

[Bug 1946476] Re: New on-demand default causes RTD3 never to be enabled

2021-10-11 Thread Dirk Su
** Description changed:

As per LP: #1942307 we now set on-demand as the default. This however,
causes "prime-select on-demand", called by ubuntu-drivers, not to even
try to detect RTD3 and to enable it, since "on-demand" is already set.

We cannot make informed choices about RTD3 in the postinstallation
script of nvidia-prime, therefore we should simply drop the check that
prime-select makes to abort if the new profile is determined to be the
  same as the current profile.

[Bug 1946692] [NEW] kernel panic stack corrupted syncing elantech_change_report

2021-10-11 Thread dave nelson
Public bug reported:

Lenovo E15 laptop running Impish Indra

kernels 5.13.0-16 and 5.13.0-19 both panic
kernel-5.13.0-14 is the last kernel to boot ok.

I have a screenshot of the failed boot but don't know how to submit it.
It says "kernel stack is corrupted in elantech_change_report_id ..."

[Bug 1946691] [NEW] using xorg driver for graphics card prevents suspend

2021-10-11 Thread dluu13
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Not sure what package this belongs to, but this has to do with trying to
suspend the computer.

What I expect:
selecting power off->suspend suspends my computer e.g. turns off screen, turns
off fans, etc.

What happens:
In "Software & Updates" Additional Drivers tab, for my GeForce GT 745M, if I
select the "Using X.Org X server" open source driver and then I try to suspend,
the computer will log off, and the screen will turn black except for blinking
cursor in the top left corner. The computer will never power down.

The workaround:
I work around this by selecting "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage" from
nvidia-driver-470 (proprietary, tested)
After this, my computer properly suspends.

[Bug 1906476] Re: PANIC at zfs_znode.c:335:zfs_znode_sa_init() // VERIFY(0 == sa_handle_get_from_db(zfsvfs->z_os, db, zp, SA_HDL_SHARED, >z_sa_hdl)) failed

2021-10-11 Thread Evan Mesterhazy
Looking for advice if anyone has it as to how I can recover my
filesystem after being affected by this bug. I installed zfs 2.0.6 via
dkms and have moved affected files like my chrome cache to a quarantine
location as suggested by Trent. However, I seem to continue stumbling on
affected files, and even with /sys/module/zfs/parameters/zfs_recover=1
set I see panics in dmesg and hung processes that cant be killed.

From what I've gathered:

Running 2.0.6 via dkms means that I'm not running the affected code
anymore. However, it seems like there is permanent FS corruption (which
is very unfortunate since this is the sort of thing ZFS is supposed to
be good at preventing).

Is there a best course of action to prevent future kernel panics? Would
reverting to a snapshot from before I noticed this issue work, or is
there shared metadata that's been corrupted? Should I just copy the
files I can access onto another disk and re-create my ZFS pool /
dataset?

Any advice is appreciated :/ Thanks

[Bug 1946681] Re: No abre la ventana de la aplicación. It doesn't start.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1946681/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1946599] Re: Firefox break when returning from console with wayland (nvidia) on ubuntu 21.10 beta

2021-10-11 Thread Robie Basak
I can reproduce this issue with this snap:

installed: 93.0-1 (631) 157MB -

In my case, it's standby/resume that triggers it. However Ctrl+Alt+F3
then Ctrl+Alt+F2 does also. I suggest that the broken standby/resume use
case makes this issue much more significant from a user impact
perspective.

Olivier's security.sandbox.content.read_path_whitelist workaround works
perfectly. Thank you!

[Bug 1946671] Re: Bug 145078 - Snap installed variant: Autocorrect not working Kubuntu 18.04 lts, but is in Ubuntu 20.04 lts

2021-10-11 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

FYI: Kubuntu 18.04 LTS is no longer supported; refer
https://kubuntu.org/news/kubuntu-18-04-lts-bionic-beaver-reaches-end-of-
kubuntu-support/ or
https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2020/08/14/ubuntu-18-04-5-lts-released/ where
you'll note only Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Desktop & Ubuntu Cloud come with
5 years of support;. I'd suggest using `ubuntu-support-status` to assess
the security status of your actual install.

[Bug 1946655] Re: tried to upgrade to new Ubuntu-Version

2021-10-11 Thread Chris Guiver
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

If you're using a non-Ubuntu OS you should follow upgrade instructions
for your actual OS and not use the prompts intended for Ubuntu users.

You have many 3rd party packages (inc. tuxedo-control-center tuxedo-
keyboard tuxedo-one-theme tuxedo-one-wallpapers tuxedo-tomte tuxedo-
touchpad-switch tuxedo-two-icons tuxedo-webfai-creator) and are also
using OIBAF that prevent a Ubuntu upgrades from occurring.

The use of oibaf ppa will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
package version numbers greater than the release to which you are
upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge package
from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa-purge
ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers', but I'd suggest following the instructions
of your OS

What version of the librados2 package do you have installed? ceph-fuse
depends on librados2, which comes from the same ceph source package.
It's possible the version number comes from the library and not from
ceph-fuse.

[Bug 1943120] Please test proposed package

2021-10-11 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted netplan.io into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netplan.io/0.103-0ubuntu5~20.04.2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1945261] Re: Sound section missing from mate-control-center in MATE 1.26

2021-10-11 Thread Brian Murray
I've confirmed this using the following:

 $ bsdtar -x -f impish-desktop-amd64.iso -O \./.disk/info

Ubuntu-MATE 21.10 "Impish Indri" - Daily amd64 (20211008)%

This seems like something worth release noting and is a good candidate
for an SRU.

[Bug 1939733] Re: [OSSA-2021-005] Arbitrary dnsmasq reconfiguration via extra_dhcp_opts (CVE-2021-40085)

2021-10-11 Thread Jeremy Stanley
Slawek is one of the upstream Neutron developers. One of the Ubuntu
package maintainers will need to take care of Ubuntu's package updates.
It's probably mildly confusing that this bug report is marked as
affecting the upstream project (where it's been fixed for months) but
also the Ubuntu packages which still need the report triaged.

[Bug 1946671] [NEW] Bug 145078 - Snap installed variant: Autocorrect not working Kubuntu 18.04 lts, but is in Ubuntu 20.04 lts

2021-10-11 Thread James Beale
Public bug reported:

Snap installed variant: Autocorrect not working Kubuntu 18.04 lts, but
is in Ubuntu 20.04 lts

"Use replacement table" is checked (Bug ID 101564)

LibreOffice 7.2.1.2 installed via Snap.

When using writer previously --> autocorrected to right arrow, and
various other things, like auto creation of a web link when typed in
also performed faultlessly.

Now I have to do these autocorrects manually. I've checked and checked
my setup, purge removed the install, making sure my user profile was
removed, and re-installed.

Does anyone know if this is a bug? Or have I missed something?

[Bug 1920974] Re: Underscore is not visible in the feed with certain settings

2021-10-11 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Very well, thank you.

I uploaded the package to ubuntu focal-proposed, and it's now pending
review from the Stable Release Team.

You'll asked to test again using the package from focal-prosed later on.
Unfortunately I forgot to use a different version in my PPA, so please
pay attention that you `apt-get install --reinstall hexchat` when you
will.

Thank you.

[Bug 1946649] Re: RM: Please remove azure-cli from Impish

2021-10-11 Thread Steve Langasek
The correct check for reverse-dependencies is:

$ reverse-depends src:azure-cli
Reverse-Depends
* python3-azext-devops  (for python3-azure-cli)

Packages without architectures listed are reverse-dependencies in: amd64,
arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x
$

So there is one; with no further reverse dependencies of its own. I'll
follow through with removing this also.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2021-10-11 Thread Qianqian Fang
Had this issue occasionally last year on Ubuntu 20.04, but now every
single time in the past week after my laptop wakes up from sleep.

Laptop is an Asus TUF F15 gaming laptop, with an NVIDIA 2060 GPU (hybrid
graphics with Radeon Renoir GPU). CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H. NVIDIA
driver 460.91.03. Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with Xfce 4.14.

Kernel version 5.6.14-050614-generic, dual monitors, one connected to
the HDMI port from the USB-C adaptor (DP-0, connected directly to the
NVIDIA GPU), and the other one connected to the HDMI port on the laptop
(HDMI-1-1, graphics "pass-through" AMD Radeon GPU). see
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/ubuntu-19-04-doesnt-detect-my-
hdmi-display/79577/80

When waking up, the DP-0 port (via USB-C, driven by NVIDIA GPU) does not
have this issue, but the HDMI-1-1 port (via AMD GPU pass-through) loses
cursor.

The workaround Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by Alt+F7, as provided in #1573454
works. Looking for a permanent fix.

[Bug 1942699] Re: SRU: Update Telegram Desktop to 2.9.2

2021-10-11 Thread Nicholas Guriev
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- The newer version of Telegram Desktop, 2.9.2, has support new features
- that are worth to bring in Ubuntu (video calls, voice chats, several
- pinned messages, multiple accounts, comments in channels, auto-deleting
- messages, simple image editor).
+ The newer version of Telegram Desktop, 3.1.1, which is currently in
+ Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri), provides an important support for 64-bit
+ user identifiers. In the next few weeks will register users with UID
+ more than 2 ³¹ - 1 (maximal 32-bit signed number). These users will be
+ unseen in ancient versions.
+
+ This version also brings many new features including video calls, voice
+ chats, streaming platform, several pinned messages, multiple accounts,
+ comments in channels, auto-deleting messages, simple image editor.
+ Unfortunately, it is huge task to extract an isolated patch which is
+ responsible for 32-bit to 64-bit migration. I suggest, on an upstream
+ author's advice, to do full update of the package.

Given the nature of the project, it make sense to do regular updates in
order to adjust changes of Telegram service and its server protocol.

  [Test Plan]

- Most testing burden rests with the upstream team. I can do smoke tests
- of the new features.
+ 1. Login as a new user with ID over the bound on a test server.
+* Provided that you are not logged in, start the app, go to Settings,
+ type blindly `testmode`.
+* Use any number matching the next format: +999661, where X means
+ any digit.
+* Provide auth code 1.
+* Choose random account name if needed, then click the "Sign Up"
+ button.
+ 2. Make sure you have gotten a long UID.
+* Look into an mtp_*.txt debug log.
+ 3. Login as an old user in another application instance.
+* Use phone +999661 and the same auth code.
+ 4. The new user writes messages to the old user. The second one receives
+them regardless of ancient version.
+ 5. The old user writes messages to the new user. The second one receives
+none of them until the old user updates their application.

  [Regression Potential]

Leaf package. Most potential issues are occasional crashes of the
application. The new version also offers OpenGL acceleration, but I am
going to disable it by default to reduce hardware related problems.

  [Other Info]

The libtgowt source package need to be backported before. It caries a
static library for support Telegram calls. Changes in the library do not
apply immediately and require recompiling of the telegram-desktop
  package to be in effect.

[Bug 1938299] Re: Unable to SSH Into Instance when deploying Impish 21.10

2021-10-11 Thread Liam Hopkins
Just to add some info on guest agent here:

the guest agent does not set up the primary interface

there should be no race between guest agent and cloud-init for the
primary interface

the guest agent does not start any dhclient process for primary
interface, and should not care if any dhclient process on the system is
killed

so a number of comments in this bug such as 'killing dhclient leaves
guest agent dead' are not true

[Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)

2021-10-11 Thread Lorenzo Novara
On a fully updated Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with kernel 5.11.0-37-generic
#41~20.04.2-Ubuntu I'm experiencing the same issue with my HP OfficeJet
4657.

The workaround has been to remove IPPUSBXD:

sudo apt remove ippusbxd

Now I can scan again.
