[Bug 1956559] Re: sleep/wake-up timeout issue

2022-01-05 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709  Please note: You
may require a specialist programming site rather than generic Ubuntu
support.

[Bug 1956126] Re: xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps and xorg-docs-core

2022-01-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can imagine at least two alternatives:

  * ubuntu-meta depends on xserver-xorg and other critical packages; or

  * Creating a new 'xorg-minimal' metapackage.

But I also imagine nobody will ever bother with those because it's not
actually important. More likely that the two dependencies this bug is
about would be cut as you request, or that nothing will change at all.

[Bug 1956559] [NEW] sleep/wake-up timeout issue

2022-01-05 Thread hyukmin kwon
Public bug reported:

I have a unexpected issue that related in sleep/wake-up timeout for task, while
device driver develop.
my code use kernel function 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' when
there is a reason for task sleep, this function parameter need input 'want
timeout in jiffies', so i have try that input any value like
"msecs_to_jiffies(255 * 1000)" for sleep task 255seconds.
I expected this function 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' return
zero when after almost exactly 255seconds. but I measured the actual time, it
was additionally delayed maximum almost 11 seconds(final time 266 seconds) in
my test case.
so result of have additional test, the additionally delayed time is different,
but the result is the same.
additionally delayed time range was random in 1ms ~ 11seconds.
this issue occur in kernel function 'msleep(255 * 1000)' too... because
schedule_timeout() used in 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' and
msleep.

※A additionally delayed time occurs even if a different number is
entered like 1ms or 1seconds..

I think it "additionally delayed time" was mean that wake-up task but time to
task racing until active run in cpu. am i guessing right? or not am i doing
something wrong?
If my thoughts are right, How do I get the correct time?

Below is the sample code I tested.

struct completion cmp;
static long g_jiffies = 0;

static int _open(struct inode *inode, struct file *file)
{
init_completion();
g_jiffies = 0;
return 0;
}

static ssize_t _read(struct file *filp, char __user *buffer, size_t count,
loff_t *ppos)
{
long sch = 0;
reinit_completion();

printk(KERN_NOTICE "start checking\n");
g_jiffies = jiffies;
sch = wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout(,  msecs_to_jiffies(255
* 1000));
//msleep(255 * 1000)

printk(KERN_NOTICE "delay time = %ld\n", jiffies_to_msecs(jiffies -
g_jiffies));
return 0;
}

result dmesg :
[목  1월  6 13:05:30 2022] start checking
[목  1월  6 13:09:52 2022] delay time = 261808

[Bug 1956128] Re: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati

2022-01-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
> There is no rule being followed here in terms of sales or production
that has anything to do with actual dates, to be clear.

If it were up to me then the rule would be whether OpenGL is supported
in the associated Mesa and kernel drivers, for modern desktop support.
If you follow that rule then I think you will find:

  xserver-xorg-video-ati: Yes
  All others you mention: No

So the distinction between ATI and those other drivers makes sense to
me. But that might not be the reason. If you want to discuss the
distinction further then please do so with the Xorg developers at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/groups/xorg/-/issues or the Debian
packagers at https://www.debian.org/Bugs/

> There is no reason any package above or ATI should be required instead
of recommended

There is a very good reason. xserver-xorg-video-all is a metapackage so
it would be a bug for it to ever fail to install some other packages.
Hence they are required. If you don't want them then it is the 'xserver-
xorg-video-all' package that shouldn't be installed, and it is
dependencies on xserver-xorg-video-all that you should be seeking to
cut.

[Bug 1956126] Re: xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps and xorg-docs-core

2022-01-05 Thread wontfix
I worry that removing a common metapackage name like that from an LTS
release initially, will crush tons of automation built over the years,
especially for ssh X forwarding use cases on servers without a window
manager. What is the alternative? Attach some of the actually required
dependencies and display drivers to the xwayland package?

I'm really only trying to change a required to be installed package to a
recommended package. This will be installed anyways, it will just
optionally be removable. The default behavior in Ubuntu is to install
recommended packages.

[Bug 1956128] Re: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati

2022-01-05 Thread wontfix
The Mach chips in terms of server boards were sold well into the late
00's as a competitor to the Matrox(MGA) G200 chips in that space of
which were sold until only a few years ago in fairly standard servers.
The Matrox G550 came out in 2005 and their PCIe portfolio is still
upgraded and sold to this day for digital signage, of which many devices
are running Ubuntu. The Rage Fury Maxx series and Voodoo 5 are
explicitly post 2000 and competed against each other and the Geforce
series. Nouveau which is included to this day supports the original NV4
TNT. The TNT series came out in 1998.

Silicon Motion chips are still produced and sold to this very day in an
M.2 package for 2D output in server and embedded scenarios. The VIA
VX900 came out in 2010 (OpenChrome). The NeoMagic NM2380 is post 2000
and was famously used in the Sony VAIO PCG-XG18/19 series. The Savage
2000 wasn't even retail available until mere days before 2000, selling
obviously and mostly within that decade block.

There is no rule being followed here in terms of sales or production
that has anything to do with actual dates, to be clear.

There is no reason any package above or ATI should be required instead
of recommended in terms of packages given that the default is to install
recommended packages and even the minimal install will do so.

[Bug 1519331] Re: Postfix cannot resolve DNS if network was unavailable when it was started, such as on a laptop

It's postfix@$INSTANCE.  If you don't have multi-instance setup, the
default instance is "-", so you would look for postfix@-, not postfix@.
This is discussed in README.Debian. You should probably file a new bug
for this problem if you don't get it figured out.

No. The glibc change isn't incorporated. It would be nice if someone from a
distro (like Ubuntu) that has applied the patch would talk to upstream about
it and get them to incorporate it. I don't plan to add it as a patch unless
Debian actually needs it, which we don't so far.

affects the whole shell:

[Bug 1950941] Re: Integer underflow in the vrend_decode_set_shader_buffers() on virglrenderer

2022-01-05 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks Jun, my question is less about the specific line of an array
index being used without checking and more about which boundaries are
being crossed with the function call:

Is vrend_set_single_ssbo() being called in the same address space as the
main() function in your reproducer? Or is it happening in another
process? Or virtual machine? Or host?

If the array indexing happens in the same process, then the main()
routine could just as well write to different places in memory in its
own process without restriction, regardless of this fix.

This fix would be a security fix if the array indexing is happening on
the other side of a protection boundary, and I don't understand virgl
anywhere near well enough to know that answer.

Thanks

[Bug 1956128] Re: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati

2022-01-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually most of those are from the 1990's, 25+ years ago. Up to 20 year
old hardware is generally fine for Ubuntu providing it's not an Intel
GPU. Intel GPUs unfortunately are relatively new and we can only support
those up to about 12 years old.

'video-all' is a meta package so it is absolutely appropriate that it
requires other packages.

[Bug 1956126] Re: xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps and xorg-docs-core

2022-01-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Required is correct because 'xorg' is a metapackage and therefore would
not fulfill its duty otherwise.

I suggest the real bug should be "why are we installing package
'xorg'?". If you want then we can reword this bug accordingly.

[Bug 1956398] Re: [Ruby Pass] Ubuntu with AST2600 mini DP Display doesn't work (OS Mode)

2022-01-05 Thread quanxian
@jeff, Customer is working on your question.

by the way, I input some comment from Aspeed.

ASPEED feedback update information:
1. ASPEED focus on Ubuntu LTS release
2. Ubuntu native 20.04 with 5.11.22 kernel doesn't support AST2600 miniDP
display, there is no display in OS mode:
workaround: it needs install ASPEED DRM
driver:https://www.aspeedtech.com/support_driver/
3. Root cause analysis is pointing to the ASP2600 miniDP
driver(MPN:AST2600A3-GP) in Ubuntu kernel(native driver). I will attach the
patch from ASPEED.

[Bug 1956533] Re: Printing anything to /dev/lp0 makes Ubuntu Server 20.04 crash

2022-01-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1956533/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Well, I will just live with installing the package from HP
directly then, I don't like snaps, I disable them on my systems.

[Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning and printing broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)

2022-01-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Till: Would using the backports pocket be possible? If you backport a
package to a release where it doesn't exist in the -release pocket, it
effectively works as an SRU.

[Bug 1519331] Re: Postfix cannot resolve DNS if network was unavailable when it was started, such as on a laptop

2022-01-05 Thread Mark Sapiro
This bug is back in Ubuntu 20.04 postfix/focal-updates,now
3.4.13-0ubuntu1.2

I'm not certain of my analysis, but I see two services

postfix.service -
[Unit]
Description=Postfix Mail Transport Agent
Conflicts=sendmail.service exim4.service
ConditionPathExists=/etc/postfix/main.cf

[Service]
Type=oneshot
RemainAfterExit=yes
ExecStart=/bin/true
ExecReload=/bin/true

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
-
and
postfix@.service
[Unit]
Description=Postfix Mail Transport Agent (instance %i)
Documentation=man:postfix(1)
PartOf=postfix.service
Before=postfix.service
ReloadPropagatedFrom=postfix.service
After=network-online.target nss-lookup.target
Wants=network-online.target

[Service]
Type=forking
GuessMainPID=no
ExecStartPre=/usr/lib/postfix/configure-instance.sh %i
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/postmulti -i %i -p start
ExecStop=/usr/sbin/postmulti -i %i -p stop
ExecReload=/usr/sbin/postmulti -i %i -p reload

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
-
It appears the intent of postfix@.service is to delay starting postfix.service
until after networking is up, but it seems that systemd doesn't accept
postfix@.service as a valid service

$ sudo systemctl status postfix@.service
Failed to get properties: Unit name postfix@.service is neither a valid
invocation ID nor unit name.

[Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning and printing broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)

2022-01-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
The problem is that we cannot add a new package to an already released
Ubuntu. A SRU (Stable Release Update) can only be bug fixes on already
included packages, no new feature releases of them, nor completely new
packages.

[Bug 1956062] Re: vim mis-manages modifyOtherKeys on xterms

2022-01-05 Thread Douglas Miller
Examining the raw I/O between this new vim and my xterm, I see that the
'r' command is now turning off modifyOtherKeys (and then back on after
the replacement character is typed). So, it would appear that there is a
fix to this upstream, and Ubuntu vim is just lacking that fix.

As far as use of ^V in a ":s/" search command, it appears that vim is
simply properly interpreting "^[[27;5;109~" now, rather than inserting
the whole sequence literally.

So, it appears that the version of vim currently in 20.04 is lacking
some fixes.

[Bug 1956062] Re: vim mis-manages modifyOtherKeys on xterms

2022-01-05 Thread Douglas Miller
I cloned the vim github repo and did a default build (version 8.2.4014),
that version of vim does not exhibit any of this odd behavior. Seems
likely that either something has fixed this upstream or else Ubuntu
20.04 vim build enables some feature that causes this.

  I installed the Linux Kernel version today (5 Jan 2022) 5.13.0-23 and my

2022-01-05 Thread Robert Dinse
Why not just distribute the working version? The problem with snaps
is they screw the functionality of shared libraries wasting memory.

[Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning and printing broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)

2022-01-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
As ippusbxd by itself is broken, meaning that it even does not work very
well with the devices it is actually designed for, I am also in favor of
removing it from all still supported Ubuntu versions (especially LTS).
Then it does not block devices which could otherwise work better.

To the users whose device needed ippusbxd we should tell to install the
ipp-usb Snap then, at it does the task of supporting IPP-over-USB
devices correctly and to their full extent.

[Bug 1955978] Re: Got this during upgrade

2022-01-05 Thread Brian Murray
Reviewing the log file, /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, from your
upgrade attempt there was a failure to communicate with the mirror of
the Ubuntu archive which you use. This could either be due to an issue
with your connection to the mirror or with the mirror itself.
Regardless, this is an issue you'll need to sort out by fixing your
network connection or switching to a different mirror of the Ubuntu
archive before the upgrade can complete. If after resolving the
communication error with the mirror you are still unable to upgrade to a
new release of Ubuntu please open a new bug report so we'll have fresh
log files. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1834250] Re: update-grub complains about non-existent drives (due to cardreader)

2022-01-05 Thread Maciek Sakrejda
I also ran into this on 20.04. Comment#16 (albeit with different device
filters, also for SD card readers) worked for me as a workaround.

Opaque errors from GRUB always make me uneasy, since I always worry my
machine may not come back after the next reboot. I'm sure I'm not alone.
Is there anything we can do to help fix this?

Re: [Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)

2022-01-05 Thread Robert Dinse
For what it's worth it's STILL broken on 21.04, but I fixed by grabbing
hplip from HP's website and installing via the provided shell script instead
of the broken version shipped with Ubuntu.

[Bug 1956000] Re: Not able to upgrade from 20.04 to 21.05

[Bug 1956047] Re: Dist Upgrade fails because it can't get Kubuntu-desktop

2022-01-05 Thread Brian Murray
It looks like every entry in your /etc/apt/sources.list file (which
includes groovy) is commented out. This could prevent the upgrade from
calculating and the failure which you are seeing. Please enable items in
your sources.list file and try the upgrade again.
