[Bug 1956559] [NEW] sleep/wake-up timeout issue
Public bug reported: I have a unexpected issue that related in sleep/wake-up timeout for task, while device driver develop. my code use kernel function 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' when there is a reason for task sleep, this function parameter need input 'want timeout in jiffies', so i have try that input any value like "msecs_to_jiffies(255 * 1000)" for sleep task 255seconds. I expected this function 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' return zero when after almost exactly 255seconds. but I measured the actual time, it was additionally delayed maximum almost 11 seconds(final time 266 seconds) in my test case. so result of have additional test, the additionally delayed time is different, but the result is the same. additionally delayed time range was random in 1ms ~ 11seconds. this issue occur in kernel function 'msleep(255 * 1000)' too... because schedule_timeout() used in 'wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout' and msleep. ※A additionally delayed time occurs even if a different number is entered like 1ms or 1seconds.. I think it "additionally delayed time" was mean that wake-up task but time to task racing until active run in cpu. am i guessing right? or not am i doing something wrong? If my thoughts are right, How do I get the correct time? Below is the sample code I tested. struct completion cmp; static long g_jiffies = 0; static int _open(struct inode *inode, struct file *file) { init_completion(); g_jiffies = 0; return 0; } static ssize_t _read(struct file *filp, char __user *buffer, size_t count, loff_t *ppos) { long sch = 0; reinit_completion(); printk(KERN_NOTICE "start checking\n"); g_jiffies = jiffies; sch = wait_for_completion_interruptible_timeout(, msecs_to_jiffies(255 * 1000)); //msleep(255 * 1000) printk(KERN_NOTICE "delay time = %ld\n", jiffies_to_msecs(jiffies - g_jiffies)); return 0; } result dmesg : [목 1월 6 13:05:30 2022] start checking [목 1월 6 13:09:52 2022] delay time = 261808 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956559 Title: sleep/wake-up timeout issue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1956559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> There is no rule being followed here in terms of sales or production that has anything to do with actual dates, to be clear. If it were up to me then the rule would be whether OpenGL is supported in the associated Mesa and kernel drivers, for modern desktop support. If you follow that rule then I think you will find: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Yes All others you mention: No So the distinction between ATI and those other drivers makes sense to me. But that might not be the reason. If you want to discuss the distinction further then please do so with the Xorg developers at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/groups/xorg/-/issues or the Debian packagers at https://www.debian.org/Bugs/ > There is no reason any package above or ATI should be required instead of recommended There is a very good reason. xserver-xorg-video-all is a metapackage so it would be a bug for it to ever fail to install some other packages. Hence they are required. If you don't want them then it is the 'xserver- xorg-video-all' package that shouldn't be installed, and it is dependencies on xserver-xorg-video-all that you should be seeking to cut. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956128 Title: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1956128/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I worry that removing a common metapackage name like that from an LTS release initially, will crush tons of automation built over the years, especially for ssh X forwarding use cases on servers without a window manager. [Bug 1956128] Re: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati
The Mach chips in terms of server boards were sold well into the late 00's as a competitor to the Matrox(MGA) G200 chips in that space of which were sold until only a few years ago in fairly standard servers. The Matrox G550 came out in 2005 and their PCIe portfolio is still upgraded and sold to this day for digital signage, of which many devices are running Ubuntu. The Rage Fury Maxx series and Voodoo 5 are explicitly post 2000 and competed against each other and the Geforce series. Nouveau which is included to this day supports the original NV4 TNT. The TNT series came out in 1998. Silicon Motion chips are still produced and sold to this very day in an M.2 package for 2D output in server and embedded scenarios. The VIA VX900 came out in 2010 (OpenChrome). The NeoMagic NM2380 is post 2000 and was famously used in the Sony VAIO PCG-XG18/19 series. The Savage 2000 wasn't even retail available until mere days before 2000, selling obviously and mostly within that decade block. There is no rule being followed here in terms of sales or production that has anything to do with actual dates, to be clear. There is no reason any package above or ATI should be required instead of recommended in terms of packages given that the default is to install recommended packages and even the minimal install will do so.

[Bug 1950941] Re: Integer underflow in the vrend_decode_set_shader_buffers() on virglrenderer
Thanks Jun, my question is less about the specific line of an array index being used without checking and more about which boundaries are being crossed with the function call: Is vrend_set_single_ssbo() being called in the same address space as the main() function in your reproducer? Or is it happening in another process? Or virtual machine? Or host? If the array indexing happens in the same process, then the main() routine could just as well write to different places in memory in its own process without restriction, regardless of this fix. This fix would be a security fix if the array indexing is happening on the other side of a protection boundary, and I don't understand virgl anywhere near well enough to know that answer. [Bug 1956128] Re: xserver-xorg-video-all requires xserver-xorg-video-ati
Actually most of those are from the 1990's, 25+ years ago. Up to 20 year old hardware is generally fine for Ubuntu providing it's not an Intel GPU. Intel GPUs unfortunately are relatively new and we can only support those up to about 12 years old. 'video-all' is a meta package so it is absolutely appropriate that it requires other packages.

[Bug 1956533] Re: Printing anything to /dev/lp0 makes Ubuntu Server 20.04 crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1956533/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1956062] Re: vim mis-manages modifyOtherKeys on xterms
Examining the raw I/O between this new vim and my xterm, I see that the 'r' command is now turning off modifyOtherKeys (and then back on after the replacement character is typed). [Bug 1956062] Re: vim mis-manages modifyOtherKeys on xterms
I cloned the vim github repo and did a default build (version 8.2.4014), that version of vim does not exhibit any of this odd behavior. [Bug 1871011] Re: USB scanning and printing broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict)
As ippusbxd by itself is broken, meaning that it even does not work very well with the devices it is actually designed for, I am also in favor of removing it from all still supported Ubuntu versions (especially LTS). Then it does not block devices which could otherwise work better. To the users whose device needed ippusbxd we should tell to install the ipp-usb Snap then, at it does the task of supporting IPP-over-USB devices correctly and to their full extent. ipp-usb Snap: https://snapcraft.io/ipp-usb ippusbxd replacement by ipp-usb: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/ippusbxd#before-you-begin-ippusbxd-or- ipp-usb -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871011 Title: USB scanning and printing broken on focal by ippusbxd (was: hpmud and ippusbxd conflict) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1871011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1955978] Re: Got this during upgrade
Reviewing the log file, /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, from your upgrade attempt there was a failure to communicate with the mirror of the Ubuntu archive which you use. This could either be due to an issue with your connection to the mirror or with the mirror itself. Regardless, this is an issue you'll need to sort out by fixing your network connection or switching to a different mirror of the Ubuntu archive before the upgrade can complete. If after resolving the communication error with the mirror you are still unable to upgrade to a new release of Ubuntu please open a new bug report so we'll have fresh log files. For what it's worth it's STILL broken on 21.04, but I fixed by grabbing hplip from HP's website and installing via the provided shell script instead of the broken version shipped with Ubuntu. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Eskimo North Linux Friendly Internet Access, Shell Accounts, and Hosting.
