[Bug 1970957] Re: suspend problem
Another notable thing (T460s here), is that the power button does not put the laptop to sleep when the laptop is on. It feels like there is no reaction to the power button presses regardless of whether laptop is on or off. Not sure if this is related though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970957 Title: suspend problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1970957/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1925265] Re: Fresh install of hirsute-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi has packages to autoremove
ok, figured this out a bit more. oem-config is installed (because you need a first-boot configurator), which is built from ubiquity source. oem-config-firstboot runs: apt-get -y purge ubiquity >>/var/log/oem-config.log 2>&1 But does not do an apt autoremove --purge afterwards. So the code needs changed to do this. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu Kinetic) Status: Incomplete => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925265 Title: Fresh install of hirsute-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi has packages to autoremove To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1925265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1925265] Re: Fresh install of hirsute-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi has packages to autoremove
This bug has been open now and listed in the release notes for 3 releases, including the latest LTS, which is far from ideal. Has anyone reproduced it with a current release? If this is a preinstalled image, why is this reported against ubiquity, which is the desktop installer? I don't have a raspi to test on, but if I mount the jammy image and chroot into it (without booting) I see: # apt autoremove --purge Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. # ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu Kinetic) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925265 Title: Fresh install of hirsute-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi has packages to autoremove To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1925265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1971650] [NEW] wrong check for "server" in libssl3.postinst
Public bug reported: A security update has just been applied to my system for openssl, and the 'reboot required' message just popped on my desktop. I looked to see why this was, and found the following code in the libssl3 postinst: # Here we issue the reboot notification for upgrades and # security updates. We do want services to be restarted when we # update for a security issue, but planned by the sysadmin, not # automatically. # Only issue the reboot notification for servers; we proxy this by # testing that the X server is not running (LP: #244250) if ! pidof /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg > /dev/null && [ -x /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot-required ]; then /usr/share/update-notifier/notify-reboot-required fi Now, AFAIK this is the only package that interfaces with notify-reboot- required but omits the notification on desktops, so that seems to be an inconsistent policy; but even if we thought that was the correct policy to apply, the above check for a desktop is not because it doesn't match in the case the user is running Xwayland, which most users not using the nvidia driver will be doing now by default. Also, this is now inside a block that checks for the presence of needrestart, which is part of the server seed; so in effect this notification now *never* fires on servers, it *only* fires on desktops. [Bug 1960459] Re: Sage cannot be launched if `python3` does not point to system interpreter
Looking at this again, I believe this bug may have been fixed (or at least mitigated) in Sage 9.1, which introduced some changes to the `sage` entrypoint around the `exec` commands I identified in my original report. More specifically the changes introduced by this commit: https://github.com/sagemath/sage/commit/248c13b542b12521bd91d6648bd6220fb7593a26 (tied to this ticket on the sagemath tracker: https://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/29627) If I change `exec python3` in `/usr/bin/sage` to `exec "$SAGE_PYTHON"/bin/python3` (i.e. apply the changes in the linked commit), sage does load up successfully even if a virtual environment is active (i.e. if `python3` points somewhere other than `/usr/bin/python3`). IPython does still issue a warning about the active venv, but sage is able to successfully start. Not sure if there is any interest in a backport here, or even if this package is under active maintenance in Ubuntu, but thought I'd share some more information about the problem upstream. I should also note that on 22.04 (sage 9.5), sage does not start when a venv is active, although the error report is substantially longer and it appears to be a separate issue. ** Bug watch added: trac.sagemath.org/ #29627 https://trac.sagemath.org/ticket/29627 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960459 Title: Sage cannot be launched if `python3` does not point to system interpreter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sagemath/+bug/1960459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

OK, no problem. I had no luck with the ubuntu-bug command either. If I want to e.g. select all my files on the desktop by click-and- dragging a selection box and then end the selection at the top left of the screen I will then also activate the Activities button if I release the mouse button over it. I expect most button-like UI controls to only trigger on complete mouse clicks: mouse down, mouse up. [Bug 1635463] Re: pip freeze includes "pkg-resources==0.0.0"
I notice earlier in this issue, people were mentioning "pkg- resources==0.0.0", whereas I'm seeing "pkg_resources==0.0.0". That's interesting. Also, this "pkg_resources==0.0.0" seems to show up specifically when installing a *different version* of pip -- not necessarily the *latest* version. [Bug 1971516] Re: File save dialog from all browsers can't save outside of Downloads or /tmp
Howdy, here are my answers: • Is that an issue only for the save dialog? Not sure what you mean, but I only notice this when using the "download" / "save file" function from a browser. Nautilus is fine otherwise. • Can you copy files to this directory using the filemanager? Yes, in fact that's what I have to do: download to /tmp then in the file manager manually move it to the folder I want it in. • Is your user directory a normal local directory or is it a remote directory or an encrypted one? Normal. Directory structure is normal, fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04 All on local HD, no encryption. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1971636/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1971637] [NEW] sitecustomize.py not imported in a virtual environment
Public bug reported: This is on Ubuntu 22.04, python3==3.10.4-3. Run this: $ python3.10 -mvenv ./venv $ echo 'print("In sitecustomize.py")' > ./venv/lib/python3.10/site-packages/sitecustomize.py $ ./venv/bin/python -c '' [nothing] Expected output: In sitecustomize.py The reason this doesn't work is that the python3 package contains its own sitecustomize module (at /usr/lib/python3.10/sitecustomize.py) whose job is to initialize the Apport exception hook, and /usr/lib/python3.10 is listed before ./venv/lib/python3.10/site-packages in the default sys.path. I think the best way to fix this would be to: 1. Remove /usr/lib/python3.10/sitecustomize.py from libpython3.10-minimal 2. Add /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport.pth with the following contents to python3-apport: import apport_python_hook; apport_python_hook.install() This would have the same effect as the current sitecustomize.py, but would not conflict with user-provided sitecustomize modules. Alternatively, /usr/lib/python3.10/sitecustomize.py could simply be moved to /usr/lib/python3.10/dist-packages, which would also fix the problem. A disadvantage of this approach is that a user-defined /usr/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages/sitecustomize.py file would override it and disable the Apport hook. ** Affects: python3.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971637 Title: sitecustomize.py not imported in a virtual environment To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.10/+bug/1971637/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
