[Bug 1975340] [NEW] Boinc Manager (Pre-Release) Daemon Start failure:
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS running Boinc 7.18.1+dfsg-4 problems. 1st. after install starting the Boinc client error msg. is you do not have access to Var Lib. I corrected that by adding my user id to the Boinc group and changing the ownership of the group in the Boinc-client folder in etc lib. from root to Boinc. After restarting Boinc the next msg. is "Boinc Manager (Pre-Release) Daemon start failure. Then the client and manager disconnect indicated by the icon in the lower right corner of Boinc. I even tried having the boinc daemon start up at IPL and it made no difference I receive the same error msg. Another Ubuntu user in Ubuntu Redit described the same problem and couldn't fix it so his solution was to restore Ubuntu 20.04 and Boinc worked fine again. Is this really a Pre-Release of Boinc, and if so why was it included in a Long Term Support release instead of the current production version of Boinc for linux? Thanks for your help. [Bug 1974177] Re: Please merge sbuild 0.83.1 from Debian unstable
Right, let's try this again... Attaching patch against Debian unstable. For ease of review, relevant commits and tags have been pushed to the following repository: https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/sbuild/+git/sbuild Specifically: * logical/0.81.2ubuntu6 represents our split-out delta on top of old/debian (0.81.2) * logical/0.83.1ubuntu1 represents our rebased delta on top of new/debian (0.83.1) * merge/0.83.1ubuntu1 just adds changelog and maintainer changes on top of logical/0.83.1ubuntu1 Hence, the following command may produce output useful to the purposes of review: git range-diff old/debian..logical/0.81.2ubuntu6 new/debian..logical/0.83.1ubuntu1 Test packages will be built in: https://launchpad.net/~waveform/+archive/ubuntu/sbuild ** Patch added: "2-1974177.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sbuild/+bug/1974177/+attachment/5591670/+files/2-1974177.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974177 Title: Please merge sbuild 0.83.1 from Debian unstable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sbuild/+bug/1974177/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The nice property of DigestedData is that it contains version, hash algo, and digest fields, and the raw binary data is actually optional. Meaning, one can Create CMS ANS.1 DER encoded DigestedData object, with raw binary data discarded. Transfer that to the signing service, which should be able to produce detached signatures. Original desire to make large data optional, is in case the data to be signed is a very large stream / tape, which is impossible or impractical to hold in memory; and yet one still wants to generate signatures for it. None of the existing APIs to work CMS appear to trivially support creating / serializing DigestedData, then deserialize it to sign it and produce detached signatures. Ideally this should be done in DER encoding such that it is platform/architecture independent. I am pondering to add more APIs to OpenSSL or extend some of the available CMS golang or rust libraries. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1930454 Title: support for .ko.hash signatures or .o -> ko -> detached signatures To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1930454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1968790] Re: Webview for SAML does not allow Duo to use a Yubikey
NetworkManager-openconnect issues would be at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/NetworkManager-openconnect but most of the hard thinking ends up on the openconnect side. So what is the best solution here? The external browser mode is useful because we get the fully features of Chrome/Firefox and then the resulting SSO token is encrypted and passed back to the VPN client. But that HPKE encryption and the connection back over http://localhost:29786/ is kind of awful. The embedded browser mode avoids that because we are in control, and we can see the token directly as we're running the browser within our own NM-openconnect authentication GUI process. But obviously doesn't work for the openconnect CLI, as the external-browser mode does. Should we (can we) implement a Firefox/Chrome plugin to exfiltrate cookies, which might give us a way to do this "embedded mode" with a *real* browser? Or should we just go and implement webauthn/CTAP2 support in WebKit? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968790 Title: Webview for SAML does not allow Duo to use a Yubikey To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openconnect/+bug/1968790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
I've encountered this bug today (2022-05-20) on Debian 11 and Ubuntu 22.04. Configuration: Samsung SSD 500 GB as /dev/sda - EFI System Partition - MSR - NTFS (C:) - Recovery Toshiba HDD 2 TB as /dev/sdb - 1,9 TB NTFS (D:) - 512 MB (/dev/sdb2 -> /boot/efi) - 2 GB swap (/dev/sdb3) - 64 GB ext4 (/dev/sdb4 -> /) It seems that even after selecting /dev/sdb2 as /boot/efi mount point to avoid tampering with the Windows boot loader's location, the installer mounts /dev/sda1 as the EFI partition. So the bug is still there and, for me, it happens also on Debian. This isn't a big problem for me, I've built the PC myself, I know how to use efibootmgr. What about a non-technical user? Is it really a GRUB bug? [Bug 1968790] Re: Webview for SAML does not allow Duo to use a Yubikey
I don't think this is an openconnect issue? Or are you handling network manager issues there too? I see the Ubuntu patch was merged upstream since this was opened? "External browser" would be nice, but IT says we can't turn it on, needs some upgrade, and CISCO says not to use it: The saml external-browser command is for migration purposes for those upgrading to AnyConnect 4.6 or later. Because of security limitations, use this solution only as part of a temporary migration while upgrading AnyConnect software. The command itself will be depreciated in the future. Since the latest Anyconnect client on Windows got the integrated browser upgraded to Edge and now supports all security key flows I'm not optimistic our deployment will ever enable it. So what we really want to see is something like network-manager- openconnect that can support webauthn, with CTAP2 support, but that seems alarmingly hard :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968790 Title: Webview for SAML does not allow Duo to use a Yubikey To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openconnect/+bug/1968790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1974100] Re: inode lazy init in a VM fills virtual disk with garbage
I've come up with a more minimal test that doesn't require the whole GNS3 infrastructure. 1. Create a one-line 'meta-data' file: {instance-id: ubuntu, local-hostname: ubuntu} 2. Create the following 'user-data' file: #cloud-config hostname: ubuntu network: config: disabled resize_rootfs: noblock users: - name: ubuntu plain_text_passwd: foobar lock_passwd: false shell: /bin/bash sudo: ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL 3. Build a CIDATA image acceptable to cloud-init: genisoimage -input-charset utf-8 -o cloudinit.iso -l -relaxed-filenames -V cidata -graft-points meta-data user-data 4. With a copy of Ubuntu's cloudimg in the current directory, create a 1 TB thin provisioned disk: qemu-img create -f qcow2 -b ubuntu-20.04-server-cloudimg-amd64.img test.qcow2 1T 5. Start qemu with a VNC server on whatever port you'd like (you must be in group kvm): qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -cdrom cloudinit.iso -drive file=test.qcow2,if=ide,media=disk,discard=on -m 4G -vnc 0.0.0.0:88 -net none I can change ide to virtio, but if I change it to scsi it either hangs during boot (Ubuntu 18 host) or complains "machine type does not support if=scsi,bus=0,unit=0" (Ubuntu 20 host). I can do the following to get scsi: qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -cdrom cloudinit.iso -device virtio-scsi- pci,id=scsi -drive file=test.qcow2,id=root-img,if=none,discard=on -device scsi-hd,drive=root-img -m 4G -vnc 0.0.0.0:88 -net none For any drive type, you start it running, let it sit there at a boot prompt, and watch the size of test.qcow2. The bad behavior is that it grows into the 30-40 GB range. On a Ubuntu 18 host, I see the bad behavior for drive types ide and virtio. scsi seems to be OK. On an Ubuntu 20 host, I only see the bad behavior for drive type ide. virtio and scsi seem OK. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974100 Title: inode lazy init in a VM fills virtual disk with garbage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1974100/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The arm64 libraries do not help in this case. 2. for x86 (32bit) to armhf emulation of linux applications/binaries, the armhf libraspberrypi0 package is also necessary for hardware accelerated gpu (as with 1.) 3. software such as chromium only has widevine support on armhf (and x86_64 and x86), not arm64, so the armhf version of chromium needs to be installs, requiring the armhf gpu libraries to be installed for hardware accelerated web compositing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1973285 Title: libraspberrypi0 multi-arch install failing due to lintian override content difference To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/raspberrypi-userland/+bug/1973285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1963707] Re: [MIR] libqrtr-glib
** Description changed: [Availability] The package libqrtr-glib is already in Ubuntu universe. The package libqrtr-glib build for the architectures it is designed to work on. It currently builds and works for architetcures: amd64 armhf arm64 ppc64el riscv64 s390x Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libqrtr-glib [Rationale] - The package libqrtr-glib is required in Ubuntu main for modemmanager to support qualcomm modems. We current carry a delta over Debian to disable that option - The package libqrtr-glib will be useful only to users owning such hardware but even if that's a limited set of users it's important for us to have Ubuntu supporting the available hardware. - It would be great and useful to community/processes to have the package libqrtr-glib in Ubuntu main, but there is no definitive deadline. [Security] - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries - no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin` - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024) - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software [Quality assurance - function/usage] - The package works well right after install [Quality assurance - maintenance] - The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu and has no bug open currently - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libqrtr-glib/+bug - Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=libqrtr-glib [Quality assurance - testing] - The package runs a minimal test suite on build time, if it fails it makes the build fail, link to build log https://launchpadlibrarian.net/587268179/buildlog_ubuntu-jammy-amd64.libqrtr-glib_1.2.2-1_BUILDING.txt.gz - There is a basic build autopkgtest for the library + https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/libq/libqrtr-glib [Quality assurance - packaging] - debian/watch is present and works - This package only has a minor lintian warning - Link to recent build log including a lintian run # lintian --pedantic running with root privileges is not recommended! W: libqrtr-glib source: superfluous-file-pattern debian/copyright docs/reference/meson.build (Files, line 28) - Lintian overrides are present, but only to silent warnings about gtk-doc being outside of /usr/share/doc - This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages. - This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies - The package will be installed by default, but does not ask debconf questions - Packaging and build is easy, link to d/rules https://salsa.debian.org/DebianOnMobile-team/libqrtr- glib/-/blob/debian/master/debian/rules [UI standards] - Application is not end-user facing (does not need translation) [Dependencies] - No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main [Standards compliance] - This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy [Maintenance/Owner] - Owning Team will be desktop-packages - Team is not yet, but will subscribe to the package before promotion - This does not use static builds - This does not use vendored code [Background information] The Package description explains the package well Upstream Name is libqrtr-glib Link to upstream project https://www.freedesktop.org/software/libqmi/libqrtr-glib/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1963707 Title: [MIR] libqrtr-glib To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libqrtr-glib/+bug/1963707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915878] Re: RM sl-modem hardware not available
I think the rationale here is insufficient to justify a removal. > However, it appears that to the best of my knowledge all hardware > vendors of SmartLink chips, modems, or whitelabel ODMs are all > out of business at least as far back as 2005. Lack of currently-produced hardware is not an argument for ceasing to support existing hardware which may still be in use. (This would not, for example, be a rationale for disabling any of the many drivers in the linux package for hardware that is no longer produced.) > sl-modem also does not pass the cat-video test - it is unlikely that even > if one has sl-modem working one can open Ubuntu and watch a cat > video online. I don't know what evidence you have to support this conclusion. > sl-modem-daemon only builds on i386, and has no amd64 userspace support. Yes, but the i386 package is still installable on amd64, so this doesn't seem to matter for users. > the kernel driver is not upstream and thus requires constant patching > by our kernel team to keep building. "constant patching": there has been exactly one round of patching by the kernel team to fix a build failure, in 2019. Note that this package was removed once before, but came back via Debian (bug #1650379). If there were pointers to concrete evidence that this is a maintenance burden for the kernel team, I would accept that as a removal rationale. ** Changed in: sl-modem (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915878 Title: RM sl-modem hardware not available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sl-modem/+bug/1915878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1915897] Re: libsecret not working with user account space for ubuntu2004
upstream closed with this note 'That's to be expected. The D-Bus socket for the session bus is located in $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, which is user-specific. When you use sudo, the command that is started by it doesn't have the $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR envvar set (or anything related to the current session basically), so it can't do anything with it. See also https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/346841/why-does-sudo-i-not-set-xdg-runtime-dir-for-the-target-user . The fact that this once used to work, is also explained there. Closing this as this is really not a bug, let alone one of libsecret' ** Changed in: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915897 Title: libsecret not working with user account space for ubuntu2004 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-keyring/+bug/1915897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
