[Bug 461053]

2024-05-08 Thread Cullmann-t
Dear user,

KHTML (and KJS) was a long time more or less unmaintained and got
removed in KF6.

Please migrate to use a QWebEngine based HTML component.

We will do no further fixes or improvements to the KF5 branches of these
components beside important security fixes.

For security issues, please see:

https://kde.org/info/security/

Sorry that we did not fix this issue during the life-time of KHTML.

Greetings
Christoph Cullmann

[Bug 2064560] Re: kernel panic with linux-intel-iotg 5.15.0.1056.62

2024-05-08 Thread Nancy Chen
Here's the logs.
https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/fCg7GXhqCG/

There seems no interruption/corruption/error during the installation.
The kernel updated from 1052 to 1056, and then went into kernel panic
after reboot. Could it be the previous version (1052 v.s. 1055) that
makes the difference?

[Bug 2065234] Re: can't unlock and xfce4-screensaver-dialog segfaults if weston running

2024-05-08 Thread Jonathan H N Chin
I discovered that invoking weston as `weston --socket=something`
prevents the segfaults.

But perhaps there should be some code in the screensaver to detect this
problem and prevent the crash?

[Bug 2062927] Re: Ambiguity in mdns configuration

2024-05-08 Thread Trent Lloyd
It's not possible to correctly run two mDNS stacks at the same time, as
while multicast udp packets can be received by multiple programs, only
one program will receive unicasted port 5353 mDNS replies, even if both
daemons allow multiple-binding to port 5353.

While actually using that feature is not so commonly used intentionally,
it is used sortof by accident by many enterprise wireless network
vendors when they "convert" multicast to unicast as a network
optimisation (because multicast packets are truly multicasted, but at a
"base" network rate much slower than the normal rate of the clients,
which uses up more airtime than sending them all individually at a
higher speed).

Hence, we cannot really enable the independent systemd-resolved support
at the same time as actually using Avahi to do proper service discovery,
and you should use the avahi/nss-mdns support instead if you want any
actual mDNS service discovery support.

Ideally resolved would add a backend to use avahi when it exists/is
installed so we could drop the extra nss-mdns step. But no one has
written that code so far.

But I am not sure why you say you cannot disable the systemd-resolved
mDNS support. It's disabled in resolved by default out of the box, and
then when disabled it doesn't bind to the port, so Avahi works fine, and
nss-mdns will work find alongside systemd-resolved. Many people use this
configuration all the time.

So I am curious.. in what specific scenario and configuration are you
seeing it enabled and the port conflict?

On an out of the box install if you run "resolvectl status" you'll see
-mDNS on all the interfaces. Can you detail your configuration more
precisely?

[Bug 2065234] [NEW] can't unlock and xfce4-screensaver-dialog segfaults if weston running

2024-05-08 Thread Jonathan H N Chin
Public bug reported:

laptop running xubuntu 22.04.4, logged into xubuntu session.

xfce4-screensaver 4.16.0-1
weston 9.0.0-4ubuntu1
firefox 125.0.3-1 (snap)

Run firefox.
In terminal: tail -f /var/log/syslog
In another terminal: weston
Lock the screen by hotkey calling: xflock4

Press key to bring up dialog but only black shows - can see backlight
periodically turning on/off and flashes of cursor when pressing keys.

Ctrl-Alt-F1; login; pkill weston; Alt-F7 back to locked session.

Now unlocking works normally again.
However, after unlocking, many firefox empty windows have been created.

/var/log/syslog shows new output:

[Bug 2064843] Re: Gluster 11.1 brick SEGFAULT

2024-05-08 Thread Nick O'Connor
** Description changed:

- GlusterFS version 11.1 contains a recursion bug
- (https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4295) which results in
- bricks SEGFAULTing. The issue was fixed upstream by
- https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/pull/4302, but the fix has yet to
- be included in a release. I encountered this issue when upgrading from
- 22.04 to 24.04
- (https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4085#issuecomment-2094525275).
+ [ Impact ]

- I think a patch should be considered for this since it results in
- possible data loss or corruption depending on the user's configuration
- and timing of brick crashes. I've asked the GlusterFS maintainers to cut
- new release with the fix but it's unclear when that may be done.
+ * Users experience brick SEGFAULTs under certain not-yet-understood
+ scenarios. Some reports include a high percentage of small file I/O. I

[Bug 2063376] Re: linux-source-6.5.0 will install kernel 6.5.13

2024-05-08 Thread Gero Schwäricke
Hi Juerg,

Thanks for the fast response. I should have looked up the kernel naming
conventions [1] before posting. Sorry for the noise.

In case anyone finds this issue via websearch in 5 years, here's some
more information on this, which I dug up:

1. I was confused why building a kernel from 6.5.13 sources would report
to the command uname as being 6.5.0:

- /usr/bin/uname get's its information via the syscall "uname" which reports
the values that were baked into the kernel at compile time [2]
- I'm not entirely sure on this but grep-ing through files of
linux-source-6.5.0 I concluded the following: When building a debian kernel,
the debian build framework is used [3], which wraps the kernel Makefile and
overwrites KERNELVERSION to the base kernel version, which it parses from the
changelog (debian/rules.d/0-common-vars.mk).

2. I only wanted to recompile a kernel module for my kernel, but using
the classic Linux makefile targets I was familiar with resulted in
kernel objects with wrong vermagic (because 1.). There exists a guide on
how to do this [4], but that is pretty out of date [5]. Here's what I
did to recompile the "btusb" kernel module for my running kernel (my
"uname -r" was "6.5.0-28-generic", so "base_version=6.5.0"):

  sudo su
  base_version=$(uname -r | cut -f1 -d-)
  apt-get install linux-source-${base_version}
  cd /usr/src
  tar xjf /usr/src/linux-source-${base_version}.tar.bz2 # may take some time
  cd linux-source-${base_version}
  make mrproper
  cp /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build/.config ./
  cp /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build/Module.symvers ./
  cp /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build/Makefile ./
  head Makefile
  uname -r
  # Version in Makefile does not match the version of the running kernel's
"uname -r", edit Makefile to fix, mine is now:
  # VERSION = 6
  # PATCHLEVEL = 5
  # SUBLEVEL = 0
  # EXTRAVERSION = -28-generic
  make -j $(nproc) prepare
  make -j $(nproc) modules_prepare
  make -j $(nproc) modules M=drivers/bluetooth CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO=n
  modinfo drivers/bluetooth/btusb.ko | grep vermagic
  modinfo btusb | grep vermagic
  # vermagics should match
  cp --backup drivers/bluetooth/btusb.ko /lib/modules/$(uname
-r)/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/btusb.ko

3. I also wanted to patch the kernel module. But for the patch to
persist, in the end I looked into DKMS [6]. I copied and patched the
module and added a dkms.conf.

Best,
Gero

[Bug 2065037] Re: dhcpcd is called before interfaces have carrier causing a 29 seconds boot delay

2024-05-08 Thread Benjamin Drung
21.67 - 4.42 = 17.25 for the dhcpcd call is quite long. So the remaining
initrd takes only 10 seconds.

dhcpcd claims the IP via ARP which takes some time. You can call dhcpcd
with `--noarp` to check how much time that takes. Besides of that dhcpcd
needs to bring up the interfaces and wait for carriers. I don't know how
much time that takes.

[Bug 2037321] Re: missing includedir snippet in krb5.conf causes GSSAPI to fail

2024-05-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Confirmed the issue on jammy, and the fix, by joining a machine to a
windows AD domain, and attempting to login via ssh GSSAPIAuthentication
as a domain user. It only works if I either put the principal name in
~/.k5login, or include the sssd localauth plugin via the include files
as discussed in this bug.

[Bug 2065037] Re: dhcpcd is called before interfaces have carrier causing a 29 seconds boot delay

2024-05-08 Thread Stefano
Yeah, I should have done that. I'm really getting tired and sleepy,
sorry about that.

The 28 seconds is the one we had before as well (the 27-28 s in ... v9,
wasn't it ?

But this error caused the script / function to behave similarly to v4 in
terms of timings. Could this indicate something else (e.g. that the
original script contain some error) ?

But why this minimum of almost 30 seconds ? Is it to satisfy some RFC ?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

You could comment out the complete if-condition instead of adding a
dummy variable. BTW, you can check the code with shellcheck after your
modification:

```
shellcheck -s sh -e SC3043,SC1090,SC1091
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions
```

Reducing the kernel+initrd time from 47 seconds down to 28 seconds sound
correct to me.

[Bug 2065116] Re: package postgresql-16 16.2-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installed postgresql-16 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2024-05-08 Thread Paulo Flabiano Smorigo
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 2065037] Re: dhcpcd is called before interfaces have carrier causing a 29 seconds boot delay

2024-05-08 Thread Stefano
Probably I had an error in the code, although no error was raised (or at least
I didn't catch it):
```
if [ -z "${DEVICE}" ]; then
# _set_available_devices_to_up
fi
```

An empty if-statement is not valid (at least in BASH it's not
acceptable).

Trying to correct to:
```
if [ -z "${DEVICE}" ]; then
# _set_available_devices_to_up
local dummyvar=1
fi
```

Yes, FUNCNAME is only available in bash. You can echo some hard-coded
text, e.g.

```
configure_network() {
echo "$(cut -f1 -d' ' /proc/uptime) configure_network start"
[...]
echo "$(cut -f1 -d' ' /proc/uptime) configure_network end"
}
The additional `wait_for_udev 10` is not needed (but it should not
consume any time at that place).
About `cut -f1 -d' ' /proc/uptime` ... Wouldn't it be better to also
[Bug 2065037] Re: dhcpcd is called before interfaces have carrier causing a 29 seconds boot delay
2024-05-08 Thread Benjamin Drung
dmesg_v9_new.debug has:
```
[   47.337075] systemd[1]: Setting '/proc/sys/kernel/printk_devkmsg' to 'on'
```
That matches roughly 47.314s (kernel) from systemd-analyze. So no need
to redo v4_new.
v4_new shows 30 seconds of sleep and v9_new does not. Can you sprinkle
the code with `cut -f1 -d' ' /proc/uptime` calls to figure out at which
point the time is spent? For a baseline, add that call to the beginning
and the end of configure_network. I would expect that configure_network
takes > 30 seconds for v4_new and it should take ~30 seconds less for
v9_new.
v9_new output of `systemd-analyze`:
```
Startup finished in 47.314s (kernel) + 27.100s (userspace) = 1min 14.415s
graphical.target reached after 27.063s in userspace.
```
Do I need to repeat `v4_new` ? Looking at `dmesg` I don't see a need
since dmesg shows very similar results for v4_new and v9_new.
To be honest v4_new and v9_new behave the same looking at `dmesg`.
We are missing something else.
Both take roughly 45 seconds before ZFS mounting begins.
Looking at dmesg_v4_new.debug:
```
[   47.841914] systemd[1]: Setting '/proc/sys/kernel/printk_devkmsg' to 'on'
```
This is the first log line from systemd after the initrd handed over the
control. So the initrd took roughly 48 seconds.
[Bug 2064560] Re: kernel panic with linux-intel-iotg 5.15.0.1056.62
2024-05-08 Thread Thibf
So iotg 1026 was installed on the device.
I updated it to 1055 successfully. Then took some logs/stats/info.
Then I added the proposed ppa, updated only the kernel to 1056, took some info
on initramfs and other files.
Rebooted into the 1056, it was working. I was able to have it booting 10/10.
Do you have the logs of the installation ? Is it possible there was an
interruption/corruption/error during the installation ?
Alright ...
So I issued:
- `apt-get install --reinstall initramfs-tools-core`
- `apt-get install --reinstall dhcpcd-base`
v4_new:
- applied `need_hostname || return 0` in
`/usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks/30-hostname`
- issued the usual `update-initramfs -k all -u; update-grub; update-initramfs
-k all -u; update-grub; reboot`
v9_new:
- same as `v4_new` with respect to `need_hostname || return 0` in
/usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks/30-hostname
- in `/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions` change `dhcpcd -1 -t
$ROUNDTTT -4 ${DEVICE:+"${DEVICE}"}` to `dhcpcd -1K --noipv4ll -t $ROUNDTTT -4
${DEVICE:+"${DEVICE}"}`
- in `/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions`remove function call(s) to
`_set_available_devices_to_up`
[Bug 2064843] Re: Gluster 11.1 brick SEGFAULT
2024-05-08 Thread Nick O'Connor
SGTM. I can drive this. Let me know what needs to be done.
** Description changed:
  GlusterFS version 11.1 contains a recursion bug
  (https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4295) which results in
  bricks SEGFAULTing. The issue was fixed upstream by
- https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/pull/4302, but the fix yet to be
- included in a release. I encountered this issue when upgrading from
+ https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/pull/4302, but the fix has yet to
+ be included in a release. I encountered this issue when upgrading from
  22.04 to 24.04
  (https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4085#issuecomment-2094525275).
  I think a patch should be considered for this since it results in
  possible data loss or corruption depending on the user's configuration
  and timing of brick crashes. I've asked the GlusterFS maintainers to cut
  new release with the fix but it's unclear when that may be done.
[Bug 2054395] Re: [sru] sos upstream 4.7.0
2024-05-08 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
@athos-ribeiro
A debdiff should most certainly not be trying to patch a symlink. I'd
recommend trying it with `patch -p1 < {debdiff}` and build the source
package to see if it works. If it complains about changes to the source
that aren't reflected, then yes, there's a problem with the debdiff, but
that's usually overcome by extracting the source.
[Bug 2008441] Re: 389 Directory Server Manager not show even cockpit-389-ds is installed
2024-05-08 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
Thank you for taking the time to fix this one, Tom!
The debdiff you submitted is quite big. If I'm understanding correctly, your
intention was to submit a new upstream microrelease into the Ubuntu repos.
While the SRU policy does foresee the case of a bugfix-only microrelease, I'm
not fully confident that this is what we're dealing with here. Although I'm not
an expert on the cockpit and 389-ds packages, there are a few things that do
stand out from an initial review:
- there's additions of new rust depedencies (from the cargo.lock file)
- several requirements seem to have gone through version changes
- new vendor files being added (like "wasi", "winapi" and "unicode-xid")
- introduces new "acl" requirement in the spec file (this is explicitly called
out a a no-go in the SRU Policy, as it'd introduce structural changes to the
build system)
Furthermore, the upstream commit log between 2.0.15 and 2.0.16 [1] lists
44 commits, which is quite a bit for a microrelease. I'd really like us
to double-check whether all 44 commits are needed for fixing this bug.
Some of the commits don't seem related to the original issue (e.g. [2]).
It'd be great if we could either:
1) Provide /strong/ justification (and testing) in favor of pushing the 2.0.16
microrelease
2) Narrow down the (few?) responsible commits and backport only those to Jammy
Considering there's no SRU exception for this package, I'd expect
significant resistance to the first option, unless we have significant
motive as well :)
Ultimately, if the underlying problem is missing UI files, could this
actually be a packaging or build-time bug? That won't have a
corresponding upstream commit, and the original description mentioning
index.html and manifest.json files does seem to hint at this (these
don't seem to be in the 2.0.15..2.0.16 diff either).
[Bug 2037321] Re: missing includedir snippet in krb5.conf causes GSSAPI to fail
2024-05-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
> Without this passwordless login using GSSAPI via SSH is not possible
to a Ubuntu 22.04 machine.
This is not entirely true. We have tests that attempt this login and they pass
just fine. There is some other detail that is missing. I'll read up in more
detail on what the sssd_krb5_localauth_plugin.so plugin does. The upstream bug
also had in one of the comments confirmation that a ~/.k5login file with the
name of the principal would allow login to work, which tells me some sort of
mapping between the username of the ssh command (which can have @DOMAIN
components) and the local username is missing, and that plugin might be
responsible for it.
[Bug 2037321] Re: missing includedir snippet in krb5.conf causes GSSAPI to fail
2024-05-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
There are two components here:
a) sssd to ship /etc/krb5.conf.d/enable_sssd_conf_dir
This was done in 2.7.0-1, and is present in ubuntu mantic and later
b) krb5.conf to includedir /etc/krb5.conf.d
This should be done in src:kerberos-configs, and is not done yet anywhere
[Bug 2065037] Re: dhcpcd is called before interfaces have carrier causing a 29 seconds boot delay
2024-05-08 Thread Benjamin Drung
I suggest to restore the package versions by using `apt install
--reinstall` on those package. Then apply the changes that you mentioned
plus removing _set_available_devices_to_up in the v9 test. The IPv6
dhcpcd line is not relevant for our case since that code path is not
used in your case.
I can still apply it with `patch`, but it would be nice to check that
[Bug 2055044] Re: GIMP crash at closure on systems with GLib 2.80.0 (and 2.79.x)
2024-05-08 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
The regression mentioned above appears to have been a glitch in the
s390x autopkgtest infra. I requested a retry.
The test plan succeeded using the GIMP from noble-proposed - I can
export an image as a PNG, then close GIMP and click "Discard" when
prompted to save my changes and it closes cleanly.
[Bug 2054395] Re: [sru] sos upstream 4.7.0
2024-05-08 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Thanks, Arif, the changes LGTM. I have a couple of questions:
- The maintainer field in d/control was reset. Was this on purpose?
- Version 4.7.1 is out since 2024-04-08; I understand this was first prepared
prior that date. Still, I should ask: would you rather prepare 4.7.1 here to
avoid SRUing a minor version shortly after this one lands?
[Bug 2065186] Re: [needs-packaging] ubuntu-x13s-settings
** Description changed:
  License: GPL-2+
  Notes:
- The ubuntu-x13s-settings package provides specific configuration settings for
running Ubuntu on the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s ARM laptop. In Mantic, these
settings were provided by the meta package linux-laptop-23.10 but that package
has been removed in Noble, so introduce a new package that provides the configs.
[Bug 1461834] Re: 1024-bit signing keys should be deprecated
2024-05-08 Thread Jake Lepere
Enabling FIPS on Ubuntu Pro 22.04+ machines [1] drops rsa1024 as an
available encryption key because rsa1024 isn't FIPS compliant.
Therefore, adding rsa1024 signed apt keys here isn't possible.
Does anyone have suggestions to work around this? I've asked if maintainers
could resign apt keys for relevant repos but haven't heard back. Additionally,
adding apt keys before enabling FIPS works, but future apt updates
unfortunately fail afterwards.
[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree
2024-05-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
> this is an extremely easy fix in code to make
As this is a long bug, with many comments and different scenarios at
play, I'm a bit lost by now.
What is the easy code fix you are referring to, do you have a link to a
patch?
Also, please restate what is the scenario we are talking about here.
Ubuntu desktop (version?), clicking on "windows network" and not seeing
SMB servers in the network? Are they all samba servers, windows, do they
have SMBv1 enabled or not, etc?
Note that SMBv1 won't be brought back, if a "fix" depends on that.
And lastly, please don't yell here, or all interactions will be ceased.
