[Bug 880766] Re: ubiquity and grub-install: fails to install grub on software RAID
Finally found the solution, which leaves me with a question. Having successfully installed an 11.10 server with RAID, I tried again on 11.10 desktop: this time, after getting the message that GRUB had not installed, I chrooted into /target/, did 'sudo-apt-get install mdadm', then 'sudo grub-install /dev/sda'. No errors. So the Ubuntu graphical installer (Ubiquity? or whatever underlying package is responsible) is not installing mdadm into the target installation, and consequently GRUB can't be installed. [Bug 880766] Re: ubiquity and grub-install: fails to install grub on software RAID
Updating bug description - I'm having the same problem in a VirtualBox environment (disks partitioned as GPT, no EFI). I was able to use ubuntu-11.10-server-amd64 to install a system with mdadm RAID1 (GPT partitioning, 1MB BIOS GRUB partition, ~20GB RAID) and have the system boot successfully, but trying to install ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64 with the same partitoning failed. chrooting in and running grub-install again gave 'grub-probe: error: no such disk' as above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880766 Title: ubiquity and grub-install: fails to install grub on software RAID To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/880766/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 883720] Re: oneiric fresh install to raid1 from alt amd64 CD - grub-install /dev/sda failed
Most of the Intel Sandy Bridge platforms use EFI; generally they will start in BIOS emulation mode unless told otherwise. If you think your platform might support EFI, try manually selecting the boot device once the CD is inserted; there should be a (uefi) optical drive option or similar if your platform supports it. [Bug 658374] Re: Please update GParted to to version 0.6.4
I'm not entirely sure how the package update/upgrade process works in Ubuntu; I've changed the bug title description to 0.6.4 (10.10 was released with 0.6.2). Will the package version be upgraded in 10.10 updates or merely have specific patches generated applied? -- Please update GParted to to version 0.6.4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 658374] [NEW] Please update GParted to to version 0.6.3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gparted GParted 0.6.3 was released on September 23, 2010. Can it please be updated for 10.10 updates / 11.04? ** Affects: gparted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Please update GParted to to version 0.6.3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 650807] [NEW] Modify group members fails when htdocs used as document root
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: phpldapadmin Distrubution: Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS Package version: phpldapadmin 1.1.0.4-2ubuntu1 Expected behaviour: The modify group members form (modify_member_form.php) should be a well-formed XHTML document with a single head section, which properly includes the javascript required to drive the form. Actual behaviour: When htdocs is used as the Apache (apache2 2.2.8-1ubuntu0.17) DocumentRoot, a duplicate doctype, html, head etc. are served, producing an invalid XHTML page, the javascript libraries are not included, and the page fails to operate correctly. When /usr/share/phpldapadmin/ is used as the DocumentRoot, the page renders and functions correctly. ** Affects: phpldapadmin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Modify group members fails when htdocs used as document root https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 632205] [NEW] PID file hard coded, breaks multiple instances
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apcupsd In apcupsd, Ubuntu 8.04.4, apcupsd-3.14.2: The PID used by apcupsd is hardcoded in src/lib/apcfile.c and include/defines.h to apcupsd.pid. This breaks the expectation that start-stop-daemon can specify its own PID file, and hence allow multiple instances to be controlled by the init scripts. This is useful when multiple UPSes are controlled by a single server. Expected behaviour: PID file to be specified on command line Actual behaviour: PID file is hard coded to /var/run/apcupsd.pid This may or may not be a bug upstream. ** Affects: apcupsd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- PID file hard coded, breaks multiple instances https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632205 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 39068] Re: clear_console should be moved to ncurses-bin
This probably relates to the group that owns /dev/tty0 and /dev/console - I noticed that some of the servers I administer would exhibit this behaviour and others wouldn't. On my 9.04 desktop they're owned by root, but on an 8.04 server they're owned by dialout, and I was a member of the dialout group on the servers that clear_console is working on (because I installed those servers). What I can't work out is why there needs to be a difference between clear (clear the terminal screen, which always works) and clear_console (clear the console, which attempts to switch virtual terminals and fails) - is there a difference on a serial console? -- clear_console should be moved to ncurses-bin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/39068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 341230] Re: Booting linux crashes on 2009 White Macbook (hardware version ID MacBook5, 2) unless you use acpi=off or maxcpus=1
Using NVIDIA drivers 185 and fakebios option in grub.cfg - I now have ACPI (2 cores, battery status) and 3D effects! applesmc is not working, mouse key emulation has disappeared (not a bad thing, I have my F11/F12 keys back!) - thank you everyone! I'll double-check my grub.cfg and then post that and my build script. -- Booting linux crashes on 2009 White Macbook (hardware version ID MacBook5,2) unless you use acpi=off or maxcpus=1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341230 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 341230] Re: Booting linux crashes on 2009 White Macbook (hardware version ID MacBook5, 2) unless you use acpi=off or maxcpus=1
I've tried the following: - Compile grub2 (in Ubuntu 9.04) using x86_64 with modules: acpi, boot, chain, configfile, ext2, fat, hfsplus, normal, part_gpt, sh - Using kernel 2.6.28-16-generic - Using NVIDIA drivers 173 - Using the posted grub.cfg updated to the above kernel version rEFIt loads grub2 and from there I get (I think) all the way to X starting (it doesn't), at which point everything freezes. [Bug 371338] Re: cannot stop RAID1
I've got a similar problem trying to break down a RAID1 array to use the individual partitions for swap. From what I understand the array was created during installation and marked as swap, then had a single partition removed from it (currently activated as swap). $ uname -a Linux adlai 2.6.24-23-server #1 SMP Mon Jan 26 00:55:21 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux $ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 8.04.2 $ mdadm --version mdadm - v2.6.3 - 20th August 2007 $ sudo fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x9e169e16 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 973 7815591 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sda2 974 31367 244139805 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sda3 60668 60801 1076355 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda4 31368 60667 235352250 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition table entries are not in disk order Disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x07a6b49b Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 1 973 7815591 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sdb2 974 31367 244139805 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/sdb3 60668 60801 1076355 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sdb4 31368 60667 235352250 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition table entries are not in disk order (snip) $ cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10] md3 : active raid1 sda2[0] sdb2[1] 244139712 blocks [2/2] [UU] md4 : active raid1 sda4[0] sdb4[1] 235352128 blocks [2/2] [UU] md2 : active raid1 sdb3[1] 1076288 blocks [2/1] [_U] md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdb1[1] 7815488 blocks [2/2] [UU] unused devices: none $ swapon -s FilenameTypeSizeUsedPriority /dev/sda3 partition 1076344 112 -1 $ sudo mdadm --stop /dev/md2 mdadm: fail to stop array /dev/md2: Device or resource busy $ sudo mdadm /dev/md2 --fail --verbose /dev/sdb3 mdadm: set /dev/sdb3 faulty in /dev/md2 $ sudo mdadm /dev/md2 --remove --verbose /dev/sdb3 mdadm: hot remove failed for /dev/sdb3: Device or resource busy The only other thing I can think of is booting from a livecd and zeroing the superblock / running mkswap, but that will probably take a while to schedule downtime for. -- cannot stop RAID1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
