[Bug 255911] [NEW] [Xubuntu Intrepid] resolv.conf wrongly configured and /etc/network/run deleted in update

2008-08-07 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings

I'm testing alpha 3, and at about 12:00 VET I updated the system. Some
package deleted the /etc/network/run folder, and configured resolv.conf
wronly.

I tried updating twice again today, but the problem seems to be
unsolved, or either has not been reported by anyone else.

I'm sorry I can't tell which one was, but if someone tells me where to
look at, I'll check.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:8.10

I logged in, no problems, but I can't get any internet names resolved. I
had to fix it manually, and create the ifstate file manually.

I'm sorry if I'm posting this under the wrong Project.

[Bug 186713] Re: [hardy] keytouch blocks logout

2008-04-20 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
I confirm this bug in both Ubuntu and Xubuntu Hardy (with latest
updates). I removed numlockx to see if it had any relationship, but it
doesnt.

Removing keytouch does it.

people with a similar problem.

Ok. I'll do that. Now, how do I include the fix in Ubuntu?

You mean you have worked around the problem, that doesn't mean the problem is
 fixed in Ubuntu.
I think you don't understand, if you expect this to be fixed in Ubuntu you
should not assign yourself as working on this bug. SOo please unassign

Re: [Bug 208638] Re: [Hardy] Fixing update-grub in Hardy Beta

2008-03-29 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
That's weird. It's such a simple error that it's easy to understand
that it was fixed a long time ago. I got my Beta Hardy upgrade via the
Venezuelan server. Maybe that repository got the file wrong. I'll
check with the guys in Venezuela.

Thank you all for your time.

2008/3/30, Steve Langasek [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
I'm sorry, but the errors you're describing did not come from an Ubuntu-
provided /sbin/update-grub script. The bashisms in update-grub were
fixed in an upload in 2006 - neither the gutsy nor feisty versions of
update-grub contain either of the errors you've cited. Marking this bug
as invalid, because there's nothing we can do in the grub package to fix
  this.

It would probably be a good idea to look into where this broken update-
grub script on your system came from, but it's definitely not from a
current version of the grub package in Ubuntu.

2008-03-29 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
Oops! Now I get it.

The output to all 3:
   apt-cache policy grub
   dpkg -l grub
   debsums -s grub

tells me that grub is not installed. And it's true. I'm using grub-
gfxboot.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ debsums -s grub-gfxboot

I guess that pretty much explains it all. This bug report shouldn't go
under grub, right? I'm a little embarrased for not sharing that
information on the first post. I thought that the upgrade would
reinstall grub. Well, live and learn :$ What's next?

I suposse the checksum mismatch is due to the fact that I changed the
script per the instructions in my first post.

Thanks again for all your hard work!

[Bug 208638] [NEW] [Hardy] Fixing update-grub in Hardy Beta

2008-03-28 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
Public bug reported:

1) Source package: linux-image-2.6.24-12-386

2) Release of Ubuntu:

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04

3) Version of the package:

linux-image-2.6.24-12-386:
  Instalados: 2.6.24-12.22
  Candidato: 2.6.24-12.22
  Tabla de versión:
 *** 2.6.24-12.22 0
500 http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

4) This is a problem I encountered while upgrading my Gutsy 7.10 to
Hardy 8.04. I found the solution on http://gazambuja.ideas3.com/
(Gracias, Gustavo!), but I thought it would be good to have here, and in
English. Upgrading works fine, downloads everything and gives the
following error while trying to configure the new linux-image.

5) This is the output I got:

Running postinst hook script /sbin/update-grub.
[: 25: ==: unexpected operator
exec: 25: -a: not found
User postinst hook script [/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 2
dpkg: error al procesar linux-image-2.6.24-12-386 (--configure)

Following that error, the rest of the installation stops because of
unmet dependencies (logically). I have an nVidia 6200 Graphics card, and
the drivers would not load without first fixing that.

6) This is how I solved it:

We have to modify the scrip file /sbin/update-grub. In a terminal, type:

gksu gedit /sbin/update-grub

Look up the first line, that begins with: #!/bin/sh and change that to:
#!/bin/bash

Save the changes and re-run your installation. Optionally use: sudo apt-
get -f install , or something similar.

[Bug 202738] [NEW] OpenOffice Writer crashes opening converted Word document

2008-03-15 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org2

1) Output of cat /etc/lsb-release:

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 7.10

2) Source package:

 OpenOffice.org 2.3 680m5(Build:9221)

3) Version (from Synaptic):

1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.3

4) I was opening a .odt file containing a document about 70 pages long
(letter size) that derived from a .doc (Word) document. The file
contained both typed material, bitmaps, tables and some text taken from
web pages. It was written in Spanish, but some of the content from the
web might have been in English. I was reviewing it and making
modifications in the document, about halfway down.

5) About halfway down the document, the application froze. No further
actions were recognized by the GUI. I could still use the Operating
System, but after about a minute, the Operating System froze, too.
During that time (before total freezing), CPU use would skyrocket. I
even tried making openoffice's .bin the highest priority to allow it to
finish whatever it was doing, to no avail.

I tried running the application from the console, and got this output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ooffice -writer '/home/angel/amsn_received/Proyecto KUNNA
030312A.odt'
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ error: duplicate REP tables used
Failure loading aff file /usr/lib/openoffice/share/dict/ooo/en_ZA.aff

I found similar bugs reported on the web, and assumed it could be some
uncompatibility with the theme I was using (custom made), so I switched
back to the Human theme. Same results.

I finally solved the problem by going back to Windows (a great
sacrifice), selecting the whole original .doc document and changing the
language option to Spanish-Venezuela (my default), then saving the file
again.

Opening the document with OpenOffice Writer and exporting it to .odt
allowed me to work with it without crashing (and without having to ever
use Windows again, hopefully).

Re: [Bug 181170] Re: package linux-image-2.6.24-2-386 2.6.24-2.4 and modules failed to install/upgrade

2008-01-23 Thread Angel Ramírez Isea
Hi, Leann.

I used Spanish because that's the language my system is configured for
;)

What I did was follow a routine system update. I'm using Hardy Alpha
2, but my system has an nVidia Video card that has given me a lot of
trouble with Ubuntu (albeit it has always been possible to solve
them). I think that's the cause of the issue. I didn't try to install
them separately. I just followed the list that came with the Update
Manager. I was using the Venezuelan repositories (ve.ubuntu ...).

I'm trying to get the Dayly Release instead of the Alpha pre releases
in order to be able to update it via rSync, but it's been difficult. I
suppose once I get a new pre-release the problem could go away.

But it's been an on / off thing with my vodeo card. Today I did an
automatic xsorver-xorg update on my gutsy and I lost compiz,
avant-window-navigator and aMSN. go figure ;)

Greetings,

Angel in Maracaibo.

2008/1/18, Leann Ogasawara [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hi Angel,

I have to apologize that I'm not familiar with Spanish so it was hard to
tell what was happening in the logs. It looked like there were issues
 installing linux-image-2.6.24-2-386 and linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.24-2-386 ? Did you try installing those separately? Also,
there are newer versions available that you may want to try: linux-
 image-2.6.24-4-386 and linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-4-386. Thanks.
