[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-30 Thread Bodinux
For information, I have had switching users issues since the fresh
install of 18.04 on top of not being able to login myself.

I let the gnome people continue to work on this issue and thank them for their
work. In the meantime, my workaround is to turn back to lightdm which works
very well for me (as it as done for some many years now):
-no login issues
-no multiple users switching issues
-automatic keyboard layout selection as per the user preference (we use
different layout in my family)
-working on screen keyboard (displays other layout than qwerty).

I'll probably join ubuntu mainstream packages when these issues will be
solved.

[Bug 1772067] [NEW] on-screen keyboard layout is wrong and cannot change

2018-05-18 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

What's wrong :

The onscreen keyboard layout is set to qwerty even if another layout was
selected during install.
It is not possible to change the on-screen keyboard layout

How to reproduce :

on login screen, select user, enable the on-screen keyboard (osk), click
on the password box, osk appears. It is in qwerty.

Click on Flag, the flag popup appears with the registered layouts, raise
the mouse towards the list : the on-screen keyboard disappears too soon
to allow clicking.

Get used to the on-screen keyboard layout and get fast, Click on Flag,
click quickly on the popup to the desired layout : Nothing happens,
keyboard layout remains the same.

Version : 1.4.1-2ubuntu1
Information : I have two layouts in /etc/default/keyboard, none is in qwerty

[Bug 1769224] Re: keyboard layout on greeter is not stored per user (function lost from 16.04 to 18.04)

2018-05-17 Thread Bodinux
I would like to add the following information :

at login, there is the helper with the possibility to have a virtual
keyboard.

Fist issue :
This virtual keyboard appears in qwerty regardless of the active layout

Second issue :
When I try to change the layout, the list of layouts is displayed. When I move
my mouse to select the layout I want, the virtual keyboard disappears. So I
can't change the layout of the virtual keyboard.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-17 Thread Bodinux
Tested this gdm3/3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1 from bionic-proposed.

Bad password entry followed by correct password entry works correctly.

I then tried to switch user, Bad password entry followed by correct password
entry : screen with the grayed password box, nothing happening.
crtl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f2, log back to previous session ok
I then tried to switch user, correct password entry : screen with the grayed
password box, nothing happening.
ctrl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f2, log back to previous session ok

(this might be another bug …?) but the test as I did failed.

2018-05-08 Thread Bodinux
In my case, the two layouts are correctly available for choice. So that
part is OK.

Indeed as per the comment you quote :
It may be motivated to ask upstream why they don't make use of the information
provided by accountsservice in the same way as unity-greeter does.

When this happens with bugs#1766137, it makes 18.04 not usable for a
family computer. (error on the password leading to a blank screen).

[Bug 1769224] [NEW] keyboard layout on greeter is not stored per user (function lost from 16.04 to 18.04)

2018-05-04 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

We are using two keyboard layouts in my family (dvorak-like and
standard).

With 16.04, upon selection of user on the greeter, the keyboard layout
would default to the one of the user.

With 18.04 fresh install, the above is lost. Instead, the last selected
keyboard layout remains selected. Therefore it is necessary to check and
maybe change the layout to be able to set the password.

[Bug 1769221] [NEW] switching user fails

2018-05-04 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

On a fresh install of 18.04, switching users fails.

What doesn't work : connect as another user using the top right menu :
myuserName>ChangeUser, goes to greeter, select another user, password
ok, screen goes blank (violet) with mouse moving, no desktop coming up.
Then Ctrl-alt-F2, log into myuserName, desktop comes back.

lxpanel : 0.5.8+git20120212-0ubuntu3

lxkeymap : 0.7.99+dfsg-0ubuntu1

setxbmap fr bepo does fix the layout, the applet doesn't

I confirm that the problem happens on the live cd (build of yesterday).

[Bug 579309] Re: Keyboard layout applet doesn't work

2012-03-30 Thread Bodinux
I updated yesterday from 11.10 to 12.04 devel.

The keyboard layout applet doesn't work properly. If I have several
layouts and change from one to another, the layout doesn,t change
despite the change of name in the keyboard applet icon.

Each time I click on the applet, it still shows the first layout
although I have chosen the second one.

If I remove the standard french layout from the choices (and go from one
bépo to a second bépo layout), the effective layout remains standard
french!

[Bug 877671] Re: Logon screen - language switch trouble

2011-10-30 Thread Bodinux
Only tried with lightdm. There is no way to change the keyboard layout
on the logon screen and there is no direct indication of the current
layout.

This is a regression from the blueprint from Matt Zimmerman which dates back
from 2005 :
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/gdm-keyboard-layout

As of Ubuntu 5.10, the initial keyboard layout used before login is part of
the X.org configuration file,
and cannot be adjusted by the user until after login. This is problematic
because:

The user may not be able to login if the layout is incorrect

The X keyboard layout is currently guessed from the console layout chosen
in the installer,
and this process is known to be imperfect

Different users may require different keyboard layouts

This requires that the keyboard layout be asked for ahead of time on the
live CD,
which is inconvenient for the user

$ lpr -P mc2530c ~/tmp/print_fail.pdf

Works fine on Fedora 13 in mono OR color.

The same command doesn't work on Ubuntu 10.10. The printer goes into

More news on this item:

The above problems are fixed : printing from the network is not a

I did as you asked.

make a two page file (one page with color, the second page only black

Open the pdf file with Document Viewer 2.32.0 and follow the 'Capturing

[Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print

2010-10-13 Thread Bodinux
The author of the foo2lava driver recommends the use of two queues : one
color queue and one blackwhite queue.

The color page alone prints correctly on the color queue.

The BW page prints correctly on the BW queue.

If the two pages are printed on the color queue, they are sent to the
printer which warms up and nothing prints.

[Bug 652779] [NEW] Xorg takes all the CPU on some trivial tasks

2010-10-01 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Two tasks lead to Xorg taking all the cpu and slowing down the current
tasks.

First task :
-using xsane, scan an image and direct it to the viewer, upon save, xorg takes
all the cpu and slows down the saving of the image. For example, it took more
than 11 minutes to save a 33MB image in .pnm format. Looking at the progress
bar, it as first going normally quick then it slew down more and more until
almost stalled. Finally the task (saving the image) ended after more than 11
minutes but the image could not be read in Eye of Gnome (Le chargeur PNM
s'attendait à recevoir un entier, mais ce n'était pas le cas), sometimes the
image is successfully saved.
This is reproduceable and very annoying.

Second task :
-I got this bug also one time during a task in Gimp (resize or rotate) but I
could not reproduce it this morning.

Nevertheless despiste the slow down, it still possible to change windows
and do some work on the computer (no freeze).

[Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print

2010-10-01 Thread Bodinux
I did the test again, with the latest ubuntu 10.10 devel from today (2010.10.01)
Printer URI : socket://192.168.xxx.xxx:9100

$ eog ./out.pnm
Print - 2530dl - Advanced - Color Mode - Color - use ICM color profile
ICM Color Profile - km2530 (default)
- Print

It printed in a normal time

I also tried using the profile file user1.icm

Same good result.

So I guess that it is not a bug anymore !

Thanks to all.

[Bug 459229] Re: xserver denies to work after upgrade: ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

2010-05-19 Thread Bodinux
No problem for 9.10 for me but the problem occured again after the
install of 10.04 leading to a freeze of the computer (keyboard not
responding anymore) on a black screen.

I tried to use the recovery boot on 10.04, finally leading to the prompt
on tty1 after unsuccessfully trying to start Xfailsafe.

The traces of my log files are attached.

I am very interested in using a backport into lucid as the bugs
corrected in 5.2.2 really help.

Thx

[Bug 444721] Re: can't print magicolor 2530dl in color

2009-10-09 Thread Bodinux
Finally

In order to print BW, I have to select the monochrome mode. Otherwise
it doesn't print.

So I did as advised in the documentation : one queue for monochrome, one
queue for color print and it works.

[Bug 444721] Re: can't print, no error message

The bug is related to my Magicolor 2530DL printer. It does print without
problem on my brother printer (job 392)

[Bug 109434] Re: Installing a server for a game automatically auto-inits and runs every boot.

2009-06-17 Thread Bodinux
As regular linux _user_ for several years now, I don't know how to stop
wesnothd from running at startup.

I installed this to play one game with my son, I might play only a few
games a year. I don't want this server to be started by default.

I would have thought appropriate to have a way to start it manually or
automatically.

As a _user_ my only choice right now is to remove it through synaptic.
As a _user_ finally, I can assure you that many did install it once and
probably have no idea that it is still running in the background.

[Bug 387046] [NEW] few bugs corrections and improvements in flexbackup

2009-06-14 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flexbackup

Flexbakcup 1.2.1-6

*BUG Correction:
There is an error in the flexbackup.conf file which can cause the following
error :

afio: 2866m+916k+0 bytes written in 1704 seconds. The operation was successful.
Kilobytes Out 2935700

ERROR: non-zero exit from:
find . -depth -xdev ! -type s ! -regex .*/[Cc]ache/.* ! -regex .*~$ -print

ERROR: exiting
|
| Backup start: Tue Nov 11 09:36:58 2008

This bug is due to the wrong regex expressions in flexbakcup.conf (this error
has been there for several years):
$exclude_expr[0] = '.*/[Cc]ache/.*'; (wrong)
$exclude_expr[1] = '.*~$';

instead of
$exclude_expr[0] = '.*\/[Cc]ache\/.*'; (better and more adapted to ubuntu)
$exclude_expr[1] = '.*~$';
$exclude_expr[2] = '.*\.thumbnails\/.*png';
$exclude_expr[3] = '.*\.local\/share\/Trash\/.*';

*IMPROVEMENT
Later in this file, there is an exclusion list of files to be compressed. I
suggest completing the list from

# File extensions that should not be compressed (seperate with spaces)
$zip_nocompress_types = 'mp3 MP3 Z z gz gif zip ZIP lha jpeg jpg JPG taz tgz
deb rpm bz2 lzo';

to

# File extensions that should not be compressed (seperate with spaces)
$zip_nocompress_types = 'mp3 MP3 Z z gz gif zip ZIP lha jpeg jpg JPG taz tgz
deb rpm bz2 lzo rar avi mp4 iso';

*BUG Correction and IMPROVEMENT
I suggest also to implement the patches from john_r_graham
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=848atid=100848) which do fix a bug
in the parameters of mbuffer (in case of use of this program) and puts some
more documentation regarding the 'prune' option that I could not get to work
before (thanks john_r_graham).

[Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print 9.04

2009-05-14 Thread Bodinux
Well, I did as Rick mentionned

eog prints in no time into output.ps

foo2lava-wrapper takes 43 seconds (which is okay compared to the 39
seconds of Rick)

and the printer takes no time to receive the data and to print it. (-no
problem with my network)

I try to print from GIMP, and it takes a looong time again (26 minutes)
but finally prints (see error_log _44 for details)

Re: [Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print 9.04

2009-05-13 Thread Bodinux
Okay for your explanation, nevertheless my cpu is up to 100% with gs and
sed during all the tries to connect. I took this as a sign that the
processing was not yet terminated.

Regarding my tries :

LPD :
*supported by the printer
*I never achieved to print anything (even the test page)
*URI after following your indications : lpd://192.168.1.117

SMB :
*supported by the printer
*I had to install 'samba'
*After waiting several minutes, the 'workgroup' finally appeared at
'browse...' and I could find the printer
*test page prints on two pages (same result on two tries):
**one page with : %-123...@pjl JOB NAME=stdin
**one page almost entirely black with some vertical stripes (monochrome
printing)
*see [job 41] vas a color test page

IPP :
*supported by the printer
*I had to fiddle with the URI to get some results : URI:
ipp://192.168.1.117:80/ipp
*works well
*[job 42] the out.pnm file with Icm color corection : default.icm
*[job 43] the out.pnm file with Icm color correction : file 1.icm (the
one which causes problem)

In short :
No success in lpd : printer not seen (bad URI probably)
No success in smb : garbage sent to printer (bug ?)
Success with ipp which prints the file in less than 6 minutes

Conclusion :
Alhtough it takes an awful lot of time, the printer is now printing this
image.
At least two problem remain :
*the socket problem
*the samba problem

If you feel there is a need to continue working on these items, I'll be
glab to help if I can.

Thanks for your help.

Re : [Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print 9.04

2009-05-13 Thread Bodinux
Rick, can you please show me the commands to cut the printing process
into time measurable pieces ?

My network is rather simple and I achieve high transfert rates between
my elements, moreover printing from windows takes no time.

2009-05-12 Thread Bodinux
Okay, it works here also for me.

So I did the test again with my picture and your settings and the
picture finally printed more than 35 minutes later !

Then I have done the test again with these settings :
Color Mode - Color - use ICM color profile
ICM Color Profile - File user1.icm

This one did not print.

2009-05-12 Thread Bodinux
Is it possible that the ghostscript takes so much time to complete that
the job 18 (see error_log) is removed before competion ?

I need more info to do what you ask me as I have no clue on how to do
it. (LPD or IPP CUPS backend).

I wonder if Rick was able to print the file.

[Bug 374416] Re: Documents silently fail to print 9.10

2009-05-10 Thread Bodinux
okay, here is the new error_log.

Job10 starts at : 15:15:06

it seems that gs runs until 15:29:19 (which is not really acceptable in
itself...)

and then there is a broken pipe error.

Jobs is still going on anyhow

Then I print a test page, job 11

When I cancel the previous job a few minutes later, the test page does
print.

[Bug 188787] Re: no wacom tablet driver (no autoprobe, patch available)

2008-05-06 Thread Bodinux
It didn't work here.

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf was not modified by the update. This is maybe due
to the fact that there were also some updates from the main repositories
at the same time (x11-common for example was named twice)?

Now the quickfix packages on my system are :
x11-common, xbase-clients, xorg, xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-input-all,
xserver-xorg-video-all, xutils

[Bug 94985] Re: magicolor 2530DL will not network install

2008-04-27 Thread Bodinux
There is no problem for me, either with 7.10 or 8.04.

NEVERTHELESS, bug with 8.04 : I installed 8.04 on two computers and from
the two computers I can print on the network printer, BUT the other
users I created could not print (either created as desktop or
administrator user, or part of the lpadmin group). With one install I
used the driver directly from rkkda.com, with the other one I just
procedeed with the one included in 8.04 with the same result.

The jobs appear completed in cups but only the bottom one succedeed (on my
other computer, it doesn't show 'root' but my user name and the print was
effective :
magicolor2530DL-3 Untitled1 administrator 205ko 1
terminée le Sun Apr 27 18:19:28 2008
magicolor2530DL-2 Untitled1 desktop 205ko 1
terminée le Sun Apr 27 18:17:51 2008
magicolor2530DL-1 Test Page root150ko 1 terminée le Sun
Apr 27 18:14:37 2008

I hope this helps, my wife is pretty upset at me for upgrading to 8.04
and loosing her ability to print on the color printer.

I can add that my wife can print without problem on our usb printer.

If you ask for additional traces, I'll be glad to help.

Thanks

[Bug 163661] mt command setblk not properly recognized

2007-11-18 Thread Bodinux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flexbackup

On gusty, the same /etc/flexbackup.conf as in feisty doesn't work
anymore.

Here is the ouput :

flexbackup version 1.2.1 (http://flexbackup.sourceforge.net)
/etc/flexbackup.conf syntax OK

|
| Checking /bin/sh on this machine... unknown
|
| Trying mt defblksize instead of mt setblk
Error setting block size
Neither of these commands worked:
  mt -f /dev/nst0 setblk 0
  mt -f /dev/nst0 defblksize 0

Trying by hand :
$mt -f /dev/nts0 setblk 0
mt: invalid argument `setblk' for `tape operation'
$ mt -f /dev/nts0 defblksize 0
mt: invalid argument `defblksize' for `tape operation'

Indeed the man file for mt doesn't display 'setblk' as an argument.

Therefore, flexbackup can't be run on gusty.
