[Bug 110455] Re: Network-Manager doesn't turn on the static network on system startup

Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better,

Could you please attach the output of your /etc/network/interfaces and
also include which version of Ubuntu you are using? nm-applet by default
will ignore statically configured networks listed in the

[Bug 109835] Re: windows applet says window manager unknown

2007-04-30 Thread Chris Burgan
Ok, Metacity is the window manager for gnome so just to clarify. You are
specifically setting the session to gnome before logging on as this user
and once you log on, even though it is the standard gnome-session
metacity is not being loaded, but only for one specific user? If so
could you please check if there is a .xsession file in that users home
directory that might be modifying the standard gnome session? If it
exists then what happens if you back it up and then remove it? If such a
file does exist then can you attach it to the bug report, not to be
confused with .xsession-errors which is potentially a HUGE file.

[Bug 111175] Re: Add/Remove programs

2007-04-30 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for you bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better,

This bug was filed without a package, I have assigned it to the gnome-
app-install which was the source of your error. However, more
information is needed for your bug report. More importantly, what went
wrong? All I read is you tried to install it and then must assume that
it failed. I just attempted an install of this myself without any
errors, please let us know.

Thank you for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I'm not sure why you can't partition manually, maybe there is a
misunderstanding of the terms? Manual just means you directly specify
what size you want the partitions and what they will be used for while
guided is more automated but relies on unused partition space.

Could you please supply a little more information and what version of
the install you are using? i.e Live CD / Alternate.

[Bug 108670] Re: Network-Manager applet requires more visual feedback

2007-04-23 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for your bug report and helping tp make Ubuntu better,

Are you trying to say it needs more textual feedback? I can agree with
this, as sometimes you don't know if the connection has failed
especially in issues like bug 93776. However from a visual standpoint
there is the whole green dots animation that does accomplish the goal of
letting you know it's doing something. I'm sure people would argue that
this is sufficient and that they don't want to see numerous popups
between connecting. It would be a matter of opinion at that point, with
a little more clarification I would be happy to mark this as wishlist.

Please make sure you are adjusting the dropdown box to 128 bit hex and
not using the default of passphrase, this is a common issue and causes
people to believe it's not working.

Going to mark this as a duplicate of bug 103781.

add to panel, there is one called network manager that will flash on

Ironically I am reopening this as I have just experienced it on the
20070411 release candidate. Both the Live CD and the Complete install
will boot up to show as not connected. Opening firefox and browsing
works fine though, clicking on the nm-applet and forcing a reconnect
will correct the way the icon is displayed.

[Bug 103781] Re: [Feisty] Network Manager can't associate WEP even right passphrase is given

2007-04-10 Thread Chris Burgan
Hi, I know it might be thinking too much (or too little) of the
situation but it hasn't been asked yet and I have seen people experience
this problem in #ubuntu a fair bit. The default way most people set up a
WEP is without a passphrase but an encrypted HEX value, to enter a hex
value you actually need to pick that option from the dropbox. So sorry
if this comes accross as a silly question, but are you sure it's a
passphrase you're wanting to enter?

[Bug 103781] Re: [Feisty] Network Manager can't associate WEP even right passphrase is given

2007-04-10 Thread Chris Burgan
Actually, while this is the default for NM-applet it is not the default
for most other setups or how most routers configure themselves on
default either which is a present issue in bug 31460

Check the screenshot for what is the common with most other programs.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure. To my knowledge the key s: is still not
a passphrase but ASCII, which would imply it's the third option. I am
sorry to persist in asking this but I would just be glad if the solution
is something this simple. I had to try, thanks for being patient.

[Bug 94964] Re: Inconsistent icons in NetworkManager Applet

2007-04-10 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for your report,

This seems theme based, I suffer the same problem except with my theme
the about icon is a star. I think it was probably intended that they are
different icons, but in the case of your theme they are very similar and
it looks like a mistake. I confirm it looks a little bizarre when you're
using the Human theme. Marking as wishlist.

[Bug 93776] Re: incorrect wireless password

2007-04-10 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for your bug report,

I am having a bit of trouble reproducing this bug. Upon connecting to a
WPA PERSONAL network and entering a bogue password mine just refuses to
connect and eventually times out without saving a password to the
keyring. Upon trying to reconnect I am again prompted for a password.
Deleting the password from the NM-applet also did not cause a crash, I
was just prompted to enter the password again and it resaved it.

Test case #3 I was able to confirm however, forcefully changing the
password in the keyring and then attempting to connect to a network
causes NM-applet to do nothing, it won't connect, won't say it's failing
to connect... it just sits there waiting for another action. I would
assume this effect could also be duplicated by changing a password in
your router settings.

Can you please include what version of Ubuntu/Nm-applet you are using?
If the two problems I can't reproduce still occur I would suggest filing
them as seperate bugs. I will post name to match the one part I can
confirm.

To reproduce:

1) Connect to wireless network using the proper key and save it to the keyring.
2) Enter the keyring in System Administration Keyring Manager and alter the
key to be incorrect
3) Attempt to connect to the same network again

Expected Result:

Prompt for proper password or even a notice to change the password in
the keyring.

Actual Result:

Nothing happens, no connection, no notice of a failure, program just
idles in waiting for another command.

I will attempt to duplicate this by changing router passwords later this
evening.

[Bug 102186] Re: OpenOffice Writer freezes on paste of image from unknown SSL website

2007-04-03 Thread Chris Burgan
I can confirm that trying to copy and paste those images from that site
crashes it. However, going to a site like
https://moodle.crosemont.qc.ca/login/index.php which also has an invalid
certificate allowed me to copy and paste all the pictures without a
problem. So I would assume that it is localized to that site. In messing
around with other things, I can copy and paste fine from this site now.
I had originally tried recreating the image with standard html and
copying it to which it worked fine and now even when I am on the HTTPS
part of the site it just shows the image as broken and doesn't open it.
I can no longer cause it to freeze beyond my initial attempt.

Please let me know if you can copy the image from other page.

[Bug 97292] Re: Feature Request: Read-only document should be editable

2007-03-28 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for your report.

I just attempted e-mailing myself a document and I was able to edit it,
then I realized it wasn't read-only but located in tmp. So I created a
new file and performed a chmod 444 to make it read only to everyone and
opened that file. I can confirm you can't write in it, but at the same
time as soon as you go and save as to something else, the file then
becomes editable. I would imagine this is how it is meant to be.

If you could reply with the version of Ubuntu/OpenOffice you are using

[Bug 96299] Re: ooimpress bullet formatting isn't kept in converted .ppt

2007-03-27 Thread Chris Burgan
Thanks for your report,

Unfortunately I am having trouble duplicating this bug, could you be
more specific with the details? I created some text using bullets, saved
as a PPT and reopened and they looked the same as before I closed the
program. Is there a specific way how you entered these bullets, or can
you still duplicate this with the latest updates?
