[Bug 1551897] Re: Excessive CPU utilization
This is actually a bug in ccid's handling of composite USB devices, and has been fixed upstream (https://alioth.debian.org/plugins/scmgit/cgi- bin/gitweb.cgi?p=pcsclite/CCID.git;a=commitdiff_plain;h=3c21f452543983f3625a1965ce234074cbda6865). My experience was that this bug caused pcscd to segfault, rather than to consume 100% CPU, but the fix appears to be the same either way. I've attached a debdiff that fixes the issue for me, and I've uploaded a test build to my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/ubuntu /ubuntu-tests). I suspect this merits an SRU, since it's a significant regression in functionality without a good workaround; I'll start on the paperwork. ** Patch added: "ccid_1.4.22-1ubuntu0.1.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ccid/+bug/1551897/+attachment/4659458/+files/ccid_1.4.22-1ubuntu0.1.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551897 Title: Excessive CPU utilization To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ccid/+bug/1551897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1106429] [NEW] [backportpackage] -sa detection does not worth with private PPAs
Public bug reported: backportpackage's attempt to detect whether -sa is needed or not is foiled by private PPAs, as hitting https://launchpad.net/~whomever/+archive/whatever/+files/my_file redirects to the login page. httplib2 follows redirects, and the login page returns a 200, so backportpackage concludes it doesn't need to pass -sa. Not totally sure what the right fix here is. My recollection was that determining this from using the LP API was difficult, but I haven't looked at the options in a while. ** Affects: ubuntu-dev-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1106429 Title: [backportpackage] -sa detection does not worth with private PPAs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-dev-tools/+bug/1106429/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1007042] Re: [backportpackage] fails but worked last week
We used to generate backport version numbers of the form VERSION_BEING_BACKPORTED~RELEASE_CODENAME1. It worked well at the time because it guaranteed that a backport of the same version to, e.g., natty would have a lower version number than the backport to oneiric, since the n would sort before o. That's important because we rely on the version numbers sorting like that for release upgrade paths with backports to work. Colin pointed out that this would break down when we ran out of letters and started wrapping around, and suggested that we instead switch to using the version number, which is what backportpackage now does. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007042 Title: [backportpackage] fails but worked last week To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-dev-tools/+bug/1007042/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 948485] Re: Suspend after undocking laptop doesn't work
Clayton - Thanks for the update. It does sound like your issue was different than mine, but I'm glad it was resolved. (For reference, because it's very difficult to detect whether a laptop is actually docked, upower instead looks at whether or not multiple displays are connected to the laptop, and uses that as a proxy for whether or not the laptop is docked. If you're docking the laptop but not using an external monitor when you do, upower will never set is- docked to true.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948485 Title: Suspend after undocking laptop doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/948485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 980746] [NEW] upower does not check dock state on resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Now that gnome-settings-daemon's power management code checks upower's is-docked flag, it's important that it be accurate. However, it is possible that the inputs to the is-docked state could change while the laptop is suspended without generating a drm udev event to trigger a re-probe. This is fairly easily reproducible: 1. Connect external monitor 2. Suspend using the system menu 3. Disconnect external monitor 4. Wake the laptop back up 5. Close lid I expect the laptop to go to sleep. However, it does not, because upower believes the laptop is still docked (you can confirm this by looking for the is-docked line in upower --dump) Fix for this issue was committed upstream as http://cgit.freedesktop.org/upower/commit/?id=6fb36eb5eb85386d2e1c5d9fb760d68053d8afc5 ** Affects: upower (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: upower (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: upower (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980746 Title: upower does not check dock state on resume from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upower/+bug/980746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 948485] Re: Suspend after undocking laptop doesn't work
Hi Clayton - This sounds like it could be related to a bug I just filed (bug #980746). [Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release
It's unfortunately not that simple. We've always shipped the hedgewars server as part of our packages. To drop the server in a post-release update would not be acceptable. However, the Haskell language has changed enough since early 2010 that the current server will not build using the Haskell packages from 10.04. Unless somebody comes up with a patch that allows us to build the 0.9.17 server on Ubuntu 10.04's Haskell stack, an SRU isn't an option. It may be possible to backport the package. However, due to the requirements of the backports project, one of 2 things would have to happen: either the maverick-proposed packages need to be verified in the next few days (in which case we would backport from maverick-updates to lucid-backports), or we need to wait a month until maverick is EOL (in which case backport policies allow us to backport from precise to lucid- backports). In either case, we need a patch to the packaging to disable the server so that the package builds on Lucid. In any case, there's a lot of work that needs to be done to get hedgewars 0.9.17 into Lucid, and I don't have the time to actively drive this anymore, so somebody else from the community needs to step up to do the development work. If there's nobody that can, then it may be time to accept that we can't offer current versions of hedgewars on an OS that's 2 years old. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852603 Title: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/852603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release
Hi Derek - Currently Ubuntu 11.10 has been updated to hedgewars 0.9.17. There are pending updates for Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04. However, before we can release those updates to the general public, they need to be tested, and so far nobody has stepped up to verify that the new packages work on those releases. To test them, please follow the instructions to enable the maverick- proposed or natty-proposed repositories on your machine (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed) and report back. We can not release the changes until we have some confidence that they will work.
[Bug 961807] [NEW] [FFe] New package mosh
Public bug reported: mosh is a remote shell updated for the realities of modern network connectivity. It supports roaming (automatically reestablishes connections if they get broken) and predictive local echo (for better perceived interactivity on high-latency connections) Version 1.0 of mosh is currently in Debian unstable (http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mosh.html), and there are daily builds available in a PPA (https://launchpad.net/~keithw/+archive/mosh) with nearly identical packaging. The maintainer (for both Debian and upstream) has informed me that he will be releasing 1.1 in the near future, and has asked we hold off syncing until that is uploaded. Here is the current pending changelog for 1.1: 2012-03-18 Keith Winstein mosh-de...@mit.edu * Version 1.1 released (stable release). * Allows user to specify remote command to execute. * Only advertises 256 colors when user's terminal has 256 colors. * Add chaff to datagrams to frustrate statistical analysis of length * Cosmetic fixes to terminal handling * Improved startup script (Anders Kaseorg) In the mean time, the package has already built in Debian on all architectures except armel, armhf, and both kfreebsd architectures. I've verified that the current Debian package builds on Ubuntu without modifications (log attached), and that the resulting packages work (modulo some locale issues in my chroot) adconrad has volunteered to do the srcNEW review in exchange for cookies. Since we're late in the release process, I was hoping to get release- team approval before 1.1 actually landed so I could get this in as quickly as possible. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Wishlist Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/961807 Title: [FFe] New package mosh To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/961807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 948117] Re: Please backport egenix-mx-base 3.2.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric
Because packages from backports are not installed by default, we prefer to only use backports as a way to offer new features, not fix bugs. [Bug 926889] Re: Ubuntu gtk leaks references in GtkTreeView / GtTreeModelSort which cause segfault in bluefish
The commit message certainly leaves a lot to be desired. On the one hand, the commit is definitely fixing a bug in the reference tracking of the info struct, and it avoids storing pointers to the stack which are almost immediately invalidated. On the other hand, while I would expect either of those bugs to cause crashes, I don't see how either of those bugs could affect whether or not there's an extra reference to the GtkTreeModelSort - causing the crash that Olivier describes - but that may just be because of my weak understanding of the whole GtkTree* set of classes. I'm personally not willing to sponsor this into the archive proper without a better sense of whether or not it will fix the bug at hand. [Bug 884402] Re: package libapache2-mod-shib2 2.4.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Looks like Jamie slightly misread the bug history. I'm working on this now, though. Russ - thanks for adopting the patch. However, it looks like Ubuntu is behind Debian on the libmemcached transition. Since we're past our feature freeze, we won't be updating for Precise, so I can't do a simple sync of the Debian package. I'm therefore sponsoring David's original change, as that's equivalent to what ended up in Debian. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884402 Title: package libapache2-mod-shib2 2.4.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shibboleth-sp2/+bug/884402/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 858122] Re: incomplete migration to /run (shutdown script order has been demolished)
I've uploaded SRUs of insserv to lucid, maverick, natty, and oneiric. Based on IRC discussions with Steve, I added a postinst to those versions that cleans up the broken shutdown sequence. It's the same snippet that I added to initscripts, but for the SRU case, ensuring correct ordering of the upgrade is too difficult. ** No longer affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu Lucid) ** No longer affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu Maverick) ** No longer affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu Natty) ** No longer affects: sysvinit (Ubuntu Oneiric) ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Maverick) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Natty) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: insserv (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/858122 Title: incomplete migration to /run (shutdown script order has been demolished) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/858122/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 884402] Re: package libapache2-mod-shib2 2.4.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Russ, I'm a little confused here. As far as I can tell, Ubuntu has not modified update-rc.d at all from what Debian ships. You can confirm this by looking at the most recent collection of Ubuntu changelog entries in http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/s/sysvinit/sysvinit_2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu9/changelog, since we re-list all changes from Debian every time we merge. Or you could just compare the two scripts: evan@caron:~$ schroot -c precise-amd64 sha1sum /usr/sbin/update-rc.d 6943e40e473cb3980af37be59aa9f26c745fe9c5 /usr/sbin/update-rc.d evan@caron:~$ schroot -c sid-amd64 sha1sum /usr/sbin/update-rc.d 6943e40e473cb3980af37be59aa9f26c745fe9c5 /usr/sbin/update-rc.d I haven't actually read update-rc.d yet, but it sounds like this could be caused by differences between dependency-based and legacy ordering. Is it possible that there's a bug there? And if so, would that be sufficient justification to adopt a change like this into the Debian packaging? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884402 Title: package libapache2-mod-shib2 2.4.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shibboleth-sp2/+bug/884402/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 858122] Re: incomplete migration to /run (shutdown script order has been demolished)
Hi Adam - Thanks for working on getting that patch together. I've gone ahead and sponsored it into precise, and will be working on an SRU for oneiric momentarily. For future reference, I made a few tweaks before uploading: 1. The insserv package is source format 3.0 (quilt), so it uses quilt to manage patches (http://developer.ubuntu.com/packaging/html/patches- to-packages.html#patches-with-quilt). I created a quilt patch containing your change. We also try to apply the DEP-3 guidelines in distro patches so we can track their provenance down the road (http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/) 2. Your changelog entry targets unstable - Ubuntu changes should always refer to the Ubuntu release they're targeting; in this case, that would be precise 3. When Ubuntu changes a Debian package, our policy is to adjust the maintainer field in debian/control - the update-maintainer script in ubuntu-dev-tools will do this for you automatically. It's also our policy to adjust the Vcs-* fields to be XSBC-Debian-Vcs-*. update- maintainer doesn't currently do this, so you have to do it yourself (bug #567629) I'm also working on a change to initscripts to try and clean up some of the fallout of this bug for people who have hit it; hopefully that should land later today. Joonas: If you have not yet installed VMware Workstation 8, just removing /usr/sbin/insserv should be sufficient (nothing on an Ubuntu system should actually use it). [Bug 682338] Re: GTK programs in Ubuntu 10.10 are sluggish over NX
Unfortunately it's a little more complicated than just which X server Ubuntu 12.04 contains. If you were to, say, X-forward an application from an Ubuntu 12.04 machine to a machine with an old server, you could crash that X server. Ideally, we would patch cairo to specifically detect the NX agent's X server, but I haven't been able to come up with a way to do that. After consulting with Sebastien, I've come up with the attached patch, which still disables the workaround for buggy repeat, but only for the specific X version that that the NX agent advertises. While our best judgement is that the NX agent is likely to be significantly more common than X-forwarding to an X server from 7 years ago, I'd still like to limit the scope of the change. I've uploaded a test build with this patch to my PPA (http://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/ubuntu-tests); it should build and be available shortly. I'll attempt to test it, but if people who actively use NX could test it as well, that would be appreciated. Assuming no snags, I'll plan to upload it to the archive in the next few days. [Bug 898003] Re: usbip source is maintained in kernel tree now
Thanks for your work on getting these packages updated, and I'm sorry that it's taken so long to get this looked at. I asked the kernel team about building the usbip packages as part of the kernel build process: 1:18 PM broder i'm wondering whether or not it would be plausible to incorporate the usbip userspace pieces into the kernel package build (there's a client, a server, and a library), or whether we should keep snapshotting the source from the kernel into a separate source package 1:19 PM tgardner broder, looking 1:23 PM tgardner broder, this is still a staging driver. while we have a mechanism for building and distributing applications from the kernel source tree, I'm not sure I wanna bother with a staging driver. 1:25 PM broder tgardner: ok. that's reasonable. it doesn't seem like it's going through a whole lot of churn anyway 1:26 PM broder i'll work on updating the separate package 1:26 PM tgardner broder, maybe we can pick it up when it gets promoted to mainline For now, I'm going to mark the bug task on Linux as invalid. I'm also happy to try and review your packing updates. I have a few questions/concerns so far: - Where did the -2.5- in the version number come from? Was that the kernel version number when you snapshotted it? I'm assuming at this point that the package is out of date from the current kernel - Since the 3.0.0 version of the packaging was never uploaded to Ubuntu, there should only be a single changelog entry for 3.2.0 (similarly, the debian/NEWS file should be updated) - The changelog should be more explicit about changes to the packaging. In particular, it would be good to see some discussion about the debian/header/* files - Please use XS-Debian-Vcs-Browser and -Vcs-Git instead of -Original- (see https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- devel/2007-March/023332.html) - As more of a wishlist thing, we generally prefer dkms-based kernel module packages over module-assistant based ones these days. It would be excellent to have a usbip-dkms in addition to (or instead of) usbip- source If you'd like to update the packaging to address all of these, that's fine. If not, I'm happy to do the cleanup, but I need a hint on the version number to move forward. [Bug 903098] Re: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing
Hi Jason - In the future, I'd strongly encourage falling back to debdiffs instead of bzr branches when you run into this much trouble getting the bzr MPs to do what you want. I don't want to blame you for the tardiness of the review here - that's clearly a failure of the development and sponsorship teams - but I do think that a debdiff on this bug would have gotten more eyeballs than the MP in its current state. After a lot of staring, though, I think I'm mostly satisfied with this change. I only really have one issue: /etc/couchdb/local.ini and /etc/couchdb/local.d/ were moved from couchdb-bin to couchdb. This means that couchdb should probably Replace couchdb-bin (= 1.0.1-0ubuntu18) in order to ensure a smooth upgrade. Does moving the file between packages trigger a conffile conflict if the user hasn't otherwise changed /etc/couchdb/local.ini? It's a little unfortunate that couchdb-bin used to create the couchdb user/group and never bothered to clean them up on uninstall, but I think that may be a historical turd we'll have to live with. Modulo the conffile conflict question, I'm satisfied with this. Jason, if you can add the missing Replaces, do some testing around that, and report back, I'd be happy to sponsor the change. I'm particularly interested to know whether the user is prompted on upgrade if they haven't changed the local.ini file. [Bug 903098] Re: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing
Oh yeah - and because the merge proposal just makes my eyes bleed, I'm going to go ahead and attach the debdiff from Debian here and reject the MP. The useful discussion is here and not on the MP, and the MP doesn't accurately represent the patch anyway. ** Patch added: couchdb_1.1.1-1_to_1.1.1-1ubuntu1.debdiff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/903098/+attachment/2731015/+files/couchdb_1.1.1-1_to_1.1.1-1ubuntu1.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903098 Title: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/903098/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 915029] Re: youtube-dl broken on older releases
Martin: Thanks as always - I've tested the Lucid package, and I'm able to download Youtube videos. Rogerio: Normally, we sync packages in unstable into our development release automatically. For the current release (12.04 / precise), we're syncing from testing. You can explicitly request that we sync a package using the requestsync program, which is in ubuntu-dev-tools (in both Debian and Ubuntu) For our stable releases, our process (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) generally requires minimal patches in order to minimize regression risk, but we can generally relax that for software that has already regressed due to changes in external services. You can either go through the process on the wiki page (open a bug with an appropriate description, generate a debdiff, and attach it to the bug), but you should also feel free to try and find somebody in #ubuntu-motu on Freenode to supervise the SRU process. At least for the moment, I'm comfortable volunteering to do that, so feel free to ping me (broder) directly. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-lucid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915029 Title: youtube-dl broken on older releases To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/youtube-dl/+bug/915029/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
