Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 12.10 i'm not able to drag a dockable dialog to the toolbox dialog althoug the toolbox says You can drop dockable dialogs here. Re: [Bug 865672] Re: Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog does not respond to mouse clicks
I agree that Adobe Flash Player is a semi-abandod piece of software, but it will take years before Flash will be completely gone from the internet. Maybe it will take 15 years. Everybody knows that ie6's lifetime was way too long. Some functionality provided by Flash is not supported by other techniques, like video conferencing. It will take years before other techniques will be mainstream to support this and flash will be the only way to provide cross-browser, cross-platform video conference (webcam and audio) support. Flash is too important on the internet at the moment to have such a big bug in linux. I have developed a chat site and the only way to support webcam chat with audio is using flash. On linux this is always problematic and going to the global settings just isn't a good solution. On 11/15/2012 01:39 AM, Robert Charlton wrote: Robert Zelic, that's odd. I you sure it's not a problem specific to yourself? If it isn't, I think we'll need a whole other bug report just for adobe-flash-plugin. Then again, IMO, we should be focusing on open source alternatives rather than try to bandage this semi-abandoned piece of software. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865672 Title: Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog does not respond to mouse clicks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/chromium-browser/+bug/865672/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1037530] [NEW] first run wizard missing after install
Public bug reported: I've taken a look at theinstaller design specification and i think one major thing is missing. A post-installation wizard / first run wizard. This could be used to postpone actions wich the user does not want to do directly on installing or are not possible to do directly on installing. Some possible scenarios where this would be useful: Scenario 1: User wants to Install from sync, but password is stored in a password manager he or she cannot access just yet. Or the user forgot the password and can use the normal way of retreiving the password after install and provide it to the first run wizard. Scenario 2: User just wants to install quickly and postpones some installer options. The post installation wizard will notice this an will provide a way to do this at a later time when Ubuntu is already installed. Scenario 3: After installation in the future options could be provided to sync programm settings like: e-mailsettings, social-media settings, chat settings, Without having to alter the installation process Scenario 4: Detecting all kinds of network attached devices like printers, scanners, NAS'es Scenario 5: Provide a way to introduce user to services like Ubuntu one if user is not already on it and help with signing up, same for software center account Scenario 6: We thank you for installing Ubuntu and we would like to ask you to contribute to the community by testing your system (this will also benefit the user itself for bugs will be reported to friendly.ubuntu.com) and if the user wants to do this run system-testing. Also a option could be provided in system-testing to report non working parts of the computer (for example i have a button on my Asus N56vm which is a quick-launcher in windows, this does not work in ubuntu, but it is nice for friendly.ubuntu.com to know an possibly create a bug-report automatically in launchpad. Scenario 7: More info about the way the community works and emphasize that everyone can contribute. Explain the ways the users can contribute like translating, reporting bugs, write code, spreading the word, etc. I think some of these things are not suitable in the installer, but are useful in a Post installation wizard which the user can run at the time he or she chooses. It could for example contain the options Remind me later and skip this wizard. [Bug 1037210] [NEW] Ubiquity should suggest connecting to a wireless network earlier
Public bug reported: During the install of Ubuntu (on a notebook) a screen comes up with 3 checks - a check for minimum required disk space - a check if connected to power - a check for an internet connection That is nice although when someone is not connected to an internet connection, i think the 3rd option should contain a button with setup wireless internet connection (or even a setup cabled connection) maybe an blue info button or question button that explains how to connect using a cabled an most importantly a wireless connection. Now if no internetconnection is present a user will hesitate to click next because one of the checks fails. I think we cannot assume the user knows that he or she has to click the network icon in the top right corner. The strange thing is that when an user goes to the next screen suddenly a dialog pops up to connect to an internetconnection. In my opinion this screen should appear earlier, or the other suggestion should be implemented. [Bug 1037351] [NEW] dual booting with UEFI (EFI) and windows and gpt partitions and grub is a real struggle
Public bug reported: I finally managed to get a working dualboot with Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7. This has been a real struggle unfortunately. This process should be improved and in my opinion this bug should be critical for many PC's are shipped with windows installed on gpt partitions and UEFI defaults to on in BIOS. How i finally managed to install was: - Problem 1 I donwloaded the 32-bit version of Ubuntu which does not support UEFI install. I always install 32-bit due to better support for some applications. The website does not tell that for UEFI i have to download the 64 bit version. - Problem 2 The installation medium (in my case USB) has to be started with the UEFI prefix. - Problem 3 Could not install Ubuntu for the installer did not see my windows installation and existing gpt partitions. It wanted to install on the full hard drive space! By doing so, i would have destroyed both my windows installation and recovery partition! This is very serious for inexperienced users! I had to find a way to let the installer see windows. After a lot of searching forums i found a (not ideal) solution: Removing the recovery partition of windows. Apparantly the last X blocks of a hard drive should be available for Ubuntu to see windows installed. After i removed the recovery partition, in the windows partitioner, Ubuntu installed just fine on a partition i wanted to use. - Problem 4 Grub was installed and this is nice, but windows did not start up. I got the message 'invalid EFI path'. After searching the forums i downloaded an application called boot-repair. This application took care of all the, very complex, details of setting up the grub bootloader. I now enjoy a dualboot with windows and Ubuntu. Both are working just fine. It's a pity that installing Ubuntu next to windows is such a struggle. [Bug 973270] Re: Printer does not provide REQUIRED job history.
Thank you Till. My fault, the page was setup as A3 in the print dialog of Evince. Although it is strange that the job gets marked as stop in the printer spool and HPLIP says job completed. I think both should report an error instead. Will report this in bug 998156. It seems like the newest cup 1.5.3. fixes the general print problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973270 Title: Printer does not provide REQUIRED job history. [Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength
I experience a bug similar to the one descriped above. Due to a wrong setting of paper-size A3 in the print dialog instead of A4. My printer HP CP1515CN does not support A3 paper format and i should not be able to select this size (correct me if wrong). When trying to print, the graphical spool just says: stopped. HPLIP reports job completed. The cups error_log is attached here. I have another printer the Brother MFC 5890CN which does support A3. It seems like the page setting of A3 was left from when i printed with this brother printer some time ago. Since then i could not print due to the bug 973270, so i only start noticing it now. I think hower that in case of errors in the error log, the graphical spool should say something more informative than stopped, something like error. Maybe this bring you guys closer to solving this problem. After setting the correct size of A4 i was able to print again from Evince. ** Attachment added: Cups error_log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/998156/+attachment/3222760/+files/cups_error_log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998156 Title: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/998156/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 998156] Re: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength
From within Inkscape i cannot print. I think this has to do with me not being able to select the paper size (Papiergroote) of A4. Somehow it is set to custom, although i've set my paper size to A4 in the inkscape document. See the attached screenshot to see that the paper size field is disabled. I will als include a screenshot of the graphical print spool (don't know what it's called) so that you can see that the status is stopped (Gestopt). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998156 Title: GTK Print dialog sends broken custom page size attribute: PageSize=Custom.Custom.widthxlength To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/998156/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1010678] [NEW] Adobe Flash settings non-clickable unity3d not unity2d
Public bug reported: The Flash plugin does not respond to clicks when running in Unity3d. Right clicking also function very buggy. I have to click several times 4 - 10 time before a context-menu apears. I've installed the offical Adobe Flash plugin. A lot of people are experiencing this problem when looking for help in fora. Some say it's a regression and that it did work in Ubuntu 11.10. I cannot confirm this. The problem occurs in Google Chrome and Firefox, though in Chrome i did not get a settings panel at all. According to others this prolem also exists in Chromium, but i've not tried this. When signing in with Unity2d i am able to right click - go to settings and change the settings in the flash settings panel. As you will know Adobe stopped upgrading Flash Plugin for linux, but i fear that there will not be any cross-browser sollutions for video and audio chatting in the next few years. I also think this is not an Adobe problem, for what i've read in the fora. Manypeople say this occurs whenever using a dock. An serveral people suggested switch to Unity2d solved the problem. It als did in my case. But this is not a good sollution in my opinion because you loose the advantages of the Unity3d dock. Some people suggested running 64 bit ubuntu also works, i only have a production machine, so i'm not able to try this. 2 links to fora: http://askubuntu.com/questions/105261/not-able-to-change-flash-settings http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=978212page=5 Please look at this. [Bug 998367] Re: fingerprint login in ubuntu 12.04 can't access encrypted home user account
I have not tried to store the key on another partition. I fact i removed the fingerprint functionality, for it is too buggy at the moment. Fingerprints are not recognised a lot of times. Only one scan per finger as reference causes this i suspect. Also it crashed several times and caused a white block in the bottom half of the screen. The graphics of the interface are also outdated and not in the same style of Ubuntu. Thats why i disabled it again. Maybe in the future i will try again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998367 Title: fingerprint login in ubuntu 12.04 can't access encrypted home user account To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fingerprint-gui/+bug/998367/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 998367] Re: fingerprint login in ubuntu 12.04 can't access encrypted home user account
In the fingerprint GUI you will have to store your password on an external device (only USB works in my case. Memory Card is not seen as an external device sadly). After you have saved it to an USB stick i can login to an encrypted home dir. The stick will always have to be plugged for login into an encrypted home directory. [Bug 999139] [NEW] fingerprint reader Authentec, inc AES1600
Public bug reported: If i'm correct Ubuntu supports fingerprint readers in user accounts as i read on the page: https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/ubuntu-help/session- fingerprint.html I cannot find a list of supported devices, but do know that my device is not natively supported. It would be nice to add the driver for AES1600 from authentec to Ubuntu and the supported devices as well as the others supported by fingerprint GUI. I'm not a driver developer, but as Fingerprint GUI can find the fingerprint reader i think it should not be too difficult to incorporate it in Ubuntu. Or am i wrong? [Bug 993822] [NEW] Change no internet connection notification in button edit
Public bug reported: Also see http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/29574/ When installing Ubuntu it does a few checks. One of these checks is whether internet access is available. [Bug 916718] Re: FF 9.0.1 on ubuntu always crashes after upgrading from FF 8
In my case firefox crashes when the console tab of Firebug is active. When i disable the console tab FF does not crash. I use Firebug on a site which makes heavy usage of console.log. Maybe this info can help locating / fixing the bug. Before upgrading to 9.0.1. i experienced no problems with the usage of the console in Firebug whatsoever. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916718 Title: FF 9.0.1 on ubuntu always crashes after upgrading from FF 8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/916718/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 776999] Re: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions
See my bug report #787809 for complete information. My ASUS x56TR freezes when power cord is unplugged or plugged. I've updated my BIOS to the newest version - no success. Adding acpi=off noacpi to boot command, seems to help however, but i've not tested it long enough to be certain. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776999 Title: [Lenovo W520] laptop freezes on ACPI-related actions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/776999/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
