[Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank

2011-11-20 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
I can also confirm that it still affects me in 11.10. Reducing window
size makes the content appear in 11.10 and it used to do so in 11.04.
But that is not a lot of consolation, in some cases the window had to be
reduced beyond practicality in order to show content. :-(

[Bug 860322] Re: [Oneiric] Skype Icon in Unity has problems

2011-10-15 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
@Reinhard: it is enough to shut down Skype and restart it again:

In a terminal windown type

$ killall skype

And then restart Skype from applications or typing it into an Alt+F2
window.

The Skype icon reappears on the panel... for a while at least... But
this is a less time-consuming version, and you don' t have to restart
all the applications you've been using. This works for other apps the
icons of which tend to disappear from the panel, like mail-notification.

For me lid close detection worked in 9.10 for Suspend, but did not work
when I just wanted screen light to be turned off (it stayed on). No
difference whether plugged or unplugged.

Now, after an upgrade (not new install) to 10.04, it stopped working on
my hp mini 2140 entirely.

[Bug 376793] Re: HP 2140 Lid Close Not Detected

2010-01-15 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
I am running Karmic updated from Jaunty with the latest mainstream
kernel.

In my case standby is initiated if I close the lid, but when on AC

then the backlight is turned on again when the screen the lid is fully
closed.

Opening and closing generates messages in lshal -m:

[Bug 335662] Re: [jaunty] hplip status service cannot find system tray

2009-07-16 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
The bug did not go away for me either, but I noticed that in the Startup
menu, the command line is this:

sh -c sleep 15; exec hp-systray

I changed 15 to 45, and ever since no error message at startup. I am
just a regular user, so just gave it a try, but maybe somebody knows,
whether it is an option that delays startup somewhat, and this way Hplip
does not want to climb onto the system tray too early.

[Bug 354915] Re: Printing - some items cut off

2009-04-22 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
I have HP3650 deskjet, test page and anything on a regular A4 prints fine from
OO or Opera or whatever. However, A5 is absolutely wrong: printing starts only
from the middle of the page. This happened to me both when printing a document
that was on an A5 page in Open Office, and also when I wanted to print
something from Opera on A5 and set page size to A5 in printing.
I have this problem since I have updated to Jaunty RC from Intrepid, prior to
that, no such problems.

[Bug 152261] Re: grub not configured with live CD install with pre-existing /home partition (Gutsy RC)

2008-08-13 Thread Gyorgyi Toth
I'm not sure if it is exactly the same problem, but from my noob
perspective, it looks quite it.

I had a stable and functioning dual-boot of Hardy and XP (with XP
installed first) until a few days ago I did a new install of Hardy with
the latest Live CD. I used manual partitioning during the Live CD
process, and used the same partition as before, only this time I also
made a separate partition for /home. The Live CD install proceeds, files
are copied, etc., no error messages on the graphic interface, only, at
one point the install stops and I am returned to the Live CD desktop. On
the partition where Ubuntu is supposedly installed, there are a lot of
files, but there is no /boot/grub folder.

After restarting, I also got Error 15, in order to have at least one
functioning OS I used fixmbr and fixboot from the XP recovery CD, so now
at least I can boot into windows, but Ubuntu install happens the same
every time.

I did not have this problem when I had no separate /home partition, but
this could not be the problem, could it?

If it is the same problem as I saw I know a way of getting round it,
although I'm not entirely clear of the details. Unfortunately (for
you), it involves avoiding the migrate users step, which will mean
that your new Ubuntu install will not have all the XP users set up
automatically for you.

I thought I had pasted my workaround to the bug report, but evidently
I didn't. Here is something I sent to someone else who also had the
problem:

I managed to install completely by commenting out the section in the
installer that calls the migration helper. I cannot remember where
the section I cut was, but I think it was in
/usr/share/ubiquity/install.py (use the end of syslog I submitted as a
guide - http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10049783/syslog).

I'm afraid, other than reinstalling my own machine I cannot give more
details. I hope this is useful for you.

Regards,

Joe

Status in “migration-assistant” source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
Binary package hint: migration-assistant

Please excuse any slight inaccuracies. I have now installed Feisty, and
I cannot remember the details exactly.

I attempted to install the Gutsy RC on a laptop that already had Edgy
installed. The disk is partitioned as follows:

  /dev/sda3 - 12G (root)
  /dev/sda1 - 1G (swap)
  /dev/sda2 - 65G (/home)

I tried to do a full reinstall, formatting the root partition and
keeping /home. The install proceeds as usual until after all the
packages are installed, at which point the /home partition gets mounted
on /mnt/migrationassistant. There then appears to be a problem
unmounting this partition with an error (in /var/log/syslog) saying that
it cannot access /media/.hal-mtab. I am guessing that this causes the
installer to terminate prematurely. On rebooting I found that grub had
not been configured correctly.

I have just reinstalled Feisty and it appears that it has the same
problem except that the migration assistant happens before the package
install and after failing to unmount the partition, it gives the option
to continue or abort. I manually unmounted and continued, and the
install completed successfully.
