[Bug 922274] [NEW] package libicu42 4.2.1-3ubuntu0.10.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: failed in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/libicuuc.so.42.1'

2012-01-26 Thread Hulky42
Public bug reported:

I got an error message that Gnome Power Manager failed to install. When
I logged in as root, I found out that there was zero disk space left...
I checked disk usage and found out that there were some 5 full- and
partial backups available. I removed the oldest three and rebooted
several times until a disk check ran at reboot. That apparently solved
the problem.

Apparently no action is required, I must just keep track of my disk
space and remove the eldest backups in time...

[Bug 477002] Re: package lirc 0.8.6-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 128

2010-02-07 Thread Hulky42
I tried to install on a HP Mini 5101 Netbook with Ubuntu 9.10 UNR and got also
the 'post-installation script returned error exit status 128'.
After some thinking of a possible cause, I realised that the HP Mini 5101 has
no IR capabilities...

[Bug 385828] Re: Update-Manager refuses to update after my wrong command to update Pidgin

2009-06-12 Thread Hulky42
First, the 'root' ownership of pidgin-ppa.list had to be changed to 'user' rw
access:
hulk...@c610-ubuntu:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ sudo chmod -c 0600 pidgin-ppa.list
mode of `pidgin-ppa.list' changed to 0600 (rw---)

second, the pidgin-ppa.list file was removed
hulk...@c610-ubuntu:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ sudo rm pidgin-ppa.list

Then, the update-manager started functioning normally.

Problem SOLVED (was not a update-manager bug) THANKS rockfx01 !!!

Regards, Hulky42

[Bug 385828] [NEW] Update-Manager refuses to update after my wrong command to update Pidgin

2009-06-11 Thread Hulky42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Error message:

Could not initialise the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package
information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E:Type ‘sudo’ is not known on line 3 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list, E:The list of sources could not be
read.'

Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS

pidgin:
  Installed: 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1~hardy2
  Candidate: 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1~hardy2
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1~hardy2 0
500 http://ftp.uninett.no hardy-backports/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.3 0
500 http://ftp.uninett.no hardy-updates/main Packages
 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.2 0
500 http://ftp.uninett.no hardy-security/main Packages
 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2 0
500 http://ftp.uninett.no hardy/main Packages

Cause: I submitted a (wrong!) command myself to upgrade to a newer version of
Pidgin from the console.
After that, the Update-Manager (and also the Synaptic Package Manager) refuses
to get and install updates for all new Ubuntu-related updates (not only for
Pidgin).

This happened two weeks ago and will detoriate my Ubuntu installation
due missing updates... ;-(
