[Bug 1582007] [NEW] sddm disables keyboard
Public bug reported: I installed xenial a server initially then added Kubuntu desktop. Initally, /usr/bin/X was missing - see bug 1563048. Now sddm starts X okay but the keyboard stops working -- I cannot Ctrl- Alt-F1 out of the login screen, tab doesn't let me move to another field, there is not mousepad response (no pointer is displayed). If I stop sddm, X gets stopped. Without X running, I can then switch to another terminal. However, the keyboard LEDs are not working (I do not remember for certain if they were working but I'm pretty sure they were). [Bug 1563048] Re: Kubuntu login screen not displayed
@mike-petersen-web - yes, in my case, it's definitely a dependency issue. I installed 16.04 server and then added Kubuntu Desktop. Whilst that installed sddm and its service, sddm didn't have any dependency on xserver-xorg-core, directly or indirectly (which it really should have, as it's an X display manager and runs /usr/bin/X :) ). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1563048 Title: Kubuntu login screen not displayed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sddm/+bug/1563048/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1563048] Re: Kubuntu login screen not displayed
Well, that seems simple enough: xserver-xorg-core hadn't been installed. "apt install xserver-xorg-core" and then "systemctl start sddm" gets me a greeter.
[Bug 1563048] Re: Kubuntu login screen not displayed
sddm does not start up at all but no error is reported anywhere - see systemctl checks log attached. [Bug 199197] Re: [Hardy] mythfilldatabase crashed with SIGSEGV in MythContext::ClearSettingsCache()
Thanks... unfortunately my PC is in the process of slowly dying on me in general, specifically with Ubuntu it currently won't run X on an rt kernel (the drivers aren't there?), won't run MythTV on a non-RT kernel, won't detect my sound (can't load the firmware) and so on... From which version were you upgrading from DpkgTerminalLog.gz, skip down to line 8151. Everything above that is irrelevant. Find samba. Line 8378: Preparing to replace samba 3.0.28a-0ubuntu3 (using .../samba_3.0.28a-1ubuntu2_i386.deb) ... What was the first version of ubuntu you've installed on the system ? I've had Ubuntu since 6.04; I've always tracked the /next/ release through the development cycle. Did you modify the default smb.conf file ? Yes. At line 8604, you'll see my first thought was to try the offered merge option. Line 8605 shows an unhappy dpkg. I'm not sure what the merge depends on - maybe I don't have it installed and that error isn't handled well? See bug 201059 for more information on the prompt. [Bug 199197] Re: [Hardy] mythfilldatabase crashed with SIGSEGV in MythContext::ClearSettingsCache()
Tricky. This is a crash on boot of a process executed by the start-up scripts. I'm not clear on how I'd get the backtrace as I don't have control of the machine at that point. In fact, I'm having trouble spotting where during start-up mythfilldatabase gets run -- possibly it's spawned by the mythbackend binary, just to make life more fun. There don't appear to be Hardy debug packages for MythTV, either. *scratches head* -- [Hardy] mythfilldatabase crashed with SIGSEGV in MythContext::ClearSettingsCache() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Xubuntu Hardy x86_64 install updated with update-manager at 10am cst on tuesday 15 January 2008. [Bug 145857] Re: [gutsy] thinkpad_acpi oops on thinkpad t22
Apologies for targeting the initial report to acpi-support. Further information: This occurs on a fresh install using http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu /daily-live/20070923/gutsy-desktop-i386.iso. I reinstalled to minimize upgrade errors. The kernel update afterwards produces the same oops (and is what was used in the dmesg). several of the /proc/acpi/ibm/ entries are missing which can cause monitoring applications to fail. $ ls /proc/acpi/ibm/ driver hotkey light video I tried patching the ubuntu source with thinkpad_acpi 0.16 (patches clean with offsets) but that still produces an oops. I then tried vanilla 2.6.22.9 from kernel.org and patch with 0.16 and there is no oops and the missing entries are back. $ ls /proc/acpi/ibm beep driver fan led thermal volume brightness ecdump hotkey light video In both cases .config was produced by copying /boot/config-2.6.22-12-generic and then 'make oldconfig' to try and eliminate configuration differences as a variable. [Bug 145857] [gutsy] thinkpad_acpi oops on thinkpad t22
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support This did not occur with Xubuntu 7.10 tribe 4 (booted the cd to verify) but does occur with the current kernel. No error message displays during normal (quiet) boot, I only saw this because I was looking at dmesg to try and trace down a different problem. Unfortunately this means I can't say when the change first happened. [Bug 106177] Re: make dmraid play nice with udev
Just to say that the udevsettle in scripts/local-top/dmraid doesn't solve the problem for me. I'll check further but I currently have /sbin/udevsettle --timeout=60 as the last line of scripts/init-premount/udev. I'm not sure if it's the timeout value or the placement of the call that makes a difference (I'll try with just the dmraid udevsettle with a timeout of 90 then 60). -- make dmraid play nice with udev https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106177 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
