2014-09-14 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Thank you for the explaination.

The last bad upstream kernel version is 3.14.2. The first good version
is 3.14.3. I will go into the commits later.

[Bug 1358200] Re: often fails to suspend

2014-08-23 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
I've just checked that all the same modules are loaded when using the
mainline kernel. Apart from some new modules that appear, only
snd_page_alloc is loaded when using the ubuntu kernel, but not when
using the mainline kernel.

[Bug 1358200] [NEW] sometimes fails to suspend

2014-08-18 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Suspend to RAM works fine in most cases, but sometimes the screen is
blank, but the power light stays green (indicating running, not
suspended state) and the computer does not react to any key (even
SysReq). After a forced reboot apportcheckresume allows me to send a bug
report.

Apport has already sent some bug reports, but I cannot find/access any
of them in launchpad.

[Bug 1351036] [NEW] Printer starts job from beginning after system suspend/resume

2014-07-31 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

While I was printing a 40 pages job on a Canon Pixma 2450 the system
suspended and the printer stopped in the middle of a page. After resume,
I had to start the printer in the Printer dialog (control panel),
because it was paused. Immediatly the printer started the job (in
progress) from the first page instead of the last page sent to the
printer.

I think cups should either prevent system suspend or continue at the
last page (double-page if duplex enabled) after resume.

[Bug 1346415] [NEW] network scanner (pixma mg4250) not found

2014-07-21 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

sane does not report the availability of the scanner although bjnp

The attached file shows the output of SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=3

I have also tried putting the IP-address in /etc/sane.d/pixma.conf but

[Bug 849298] [NEW] libreoffice aborts or stops on splash

2011-09-13 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Sometimes libreoffice just freezes on splash (startup), sometimes it
aborts, however it never works. In other words: I cannot use libreoffice
at all. I don't remember when it happened the first time, but I did not
have this problem until sometime after the upgrade to natty.

Even after enabling apport, there was no crash report, so I called
apport-bug on the frozen soffice.bin. It might be that oosplash.bin is
the culprit.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04
Package: libreoffice-core 1:3.3.3-1ubuntu2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.49-generic 2.6.38.8

[Bug 655378] [NEW] gnome-do blocks screen lock/saver

2010-10-05 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

Steps to reproduce:

1) set a short time-out for the screen saver and screen lock
2) bring up gnome-do via the hot-key or login
3) go away to get coffee, but forget to lock the screen.
4) when back, the screen is not locked and the desktop is visible. gnome-do is
still waiting for a command
5) let gnome-do start up an application
6) the screen saver starts immediately and the screen is locked.

How it should be:

4) when back, the screen saver is active and the screen is locked.

2010-09-26 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Some updates:

* the workaround with suspend mode does not work anymore (probable a kernel
update some weeks ago.)
* disable pulseaudio and play to /dev/dsp - hiccups after a minute or so.
* using an old live-cd (kubuntu 9.04, 64bit) - no hiccups.
* using the Ubuntu 10.10beta, amd64 live system - hiccups.

[Bug 550482] Re: audio hiccups

2010-05-16 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
 Please try linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa:ubuntu-
audio-dev

If anything it makes things rather worse, the hiccups are more frequent.
Still, after returning from suspend mode, there are no hiccups.

What happens in suspend mode that fixes the problem? I've just checked
lsmod: after the suspend the same modules are loaded as before suspend
mode.

[Bug 550482] Re: audio hiccups

2010-03-29 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
I've also tried model=toshiba, but it did not fix the problem.

Anyway, I have discovered that the problem is fixed after returning from
suspend (to ram). After a reboot there is the hiccup again. Putting the
computer to suspend mode and reactivating it fixes the problem, i.e. I
don't notice any hiccup.

Thank you for your fast reply.

Please add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
 options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
 then reboot.

I am sorry to say, that it did not make a change. Something else, that I
can try?

I got the 64bit flash from ppa:brandonsnider/experimental-flash and it

[Bug 474597] [PATCH 2.6.32.7] ext4: number of blocks for fiemap

2010-02-12 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Problem:
fs/ext4/extents.c:ext4_fiemap rounds the length of the requested range
down to blocksize. This is not the true number of blocks that cover the
requested region. This problem is especially impressive if the user
requests only the first byte of a file: not a single extent will be
reported.

Solution:
Calculate the last byte of the region and round to blocksize. Then get
the number of blocks by subtracting last_blk - start_blk and adding 1
for the first block. (The variable last_blk is introduced just for
easier reading.) This patch will fix this.

I already suggested this patch some time ago, this is the same patch for
a more recent kernel version.

I don't think this is quite correct either. For example, if blocksize
 is 1024
 and start is 1023 (start_blk = 0) and len is 2 (end = 1024, end_blk =
 1) then
 len_blks = 2 which is too much.

I think the right calculation here is:

end_blk = (start + len + inode-i_sb-s_blocksize -
 1)
  inode-i_sb-s_blocksize_bits;
len_blks = end_blk - start_blk;

I'm also wondering (unrelated to this bug) why inode-i_sb-
  s_blocksize_bits
is used instead of inode-i_blkbits? That is probably worth a
 separate cleanup
 patch.

I have already reported this upstream. on ext4, fiemap will not report

  nothing.

This bug disappeared as mysteriously as it had come. Some update fixed
it. Since I am the only subscriber to this bug, I guess it can be
closed.

[Bug 474597] [NEW] the FS_IOC_FIEMAP ioctl does not report extents of small files

2009-11-04 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

I have already reported this upstream. on ext4, fiemap will not report
extents if the requested logical region of a file overlaps the extent
less than blocksize. So, if you request star=0, len=100, you will get
nothing.

I can provide example code, if you need.

[Bug 462835] [NEW] evince does not show the printing option Staple

2009-10-28 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

This is related to CUPS.
I really don't understand why, but evince does not show the Staple option in
the printing dialog. It did in Jaunty. Other GTK2.0 applications do show the
option. The PPD contains a UI with the name Staple that allows the selection of
a position for staples.

[Bug 354394] Re: New Wave, background gradient too short

2009-08-20 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Oh, I just noticed that you use the pixmap engine. We would need an
engine that supports gradients. Then the gradients would be scaled to
the size of the area being filled. Is it possible within the policy of
the New Wave theme to use another gtk-engine?

[Bug 392091] Re: evince shows shadings only on 25% of the page

2009-06-26 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
The reply to the upstream bug-report suggested that it can be fixed by
backporting the new poppler libs.

I have compiled karmic's poppler for jaunty and it works fine at a first
glance.

You can get the backport packages from my PPA:

[Bug 392729] [NEW] Gnome About dialogs do not tell me the program name

2009-06-26 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

My locale is de_AT.UTF-8. Many gnome programs (for example gnome-help or
the clock applet in the panel) don't tell me the name of the program in
the About dialog. Instead they tell me a translation of the name! This
may be a nice information too, but I use the About dialog specifically
to find out what program (or version) I am dealing with.

How am I supposed to find the package/command/process id/bug page for the
application with the name Uhr or Hilfe?
This is not only a locale problem, as evince introduces itself as Document
Viewer.

It is nice that programs have human readable descriptions (nobody would
guess what evince is meant to do) but there should be some way to find
out the real name of the program.

[Bug 392091] [NEW] evince shows shadings only on 25% of the page

2009-06-25 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I made a drawing with inkskape and exported it as PDF via cairo. The
alpha gradient fillings of boxes will not be displayed correctly in
evince. Printing works without any problem.

See for example the attached file. If I display it in evince with 100%
zoom, the shaded area will be clipped. If I zoom in, it will be worse.
If I zoom out to 50%, everything will be displayed as expected (except
for the bad quality of the shading). Compare the screenshot.

[Bug 389414] [NEW] evolution calendar does not handle time zones

2009-06-19 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When adding a new event to the calendar I cannot specify a time zone for
the start and end times. In most cases it is fine to ignore the time
zones and use the local time zone of the place where you will be at that
time. Evolution calender, however, will not let you set an event that
ends before it starts either. Suppose you plan to take flight JL018
which departs from Tokyo at 18:05 and arrives in Vancouver at 10:45 of
the same day (i.e. 5 hours and 20 minutes before departure), you will
not be able to add that flight to evolution calendar.

[Bug 326085] Re: closing firefox takes a long time

2009-05-18 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Some info:
This problem is most prominent at the first time closing firefox after
starting my computer. After that the files that it reads/writes seem to be
cached. I would prefetch the files if I know what files they are. Appearently
readahead-watch does not catch them.

Is firefox writing a myriad of files scattered over the harddisk? Maybe
I should move ~/.mozilla to a small dedicated partition?

[Bug 369711] [NEW] Multiple copies of a job will be concatenated

2009-04-30 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

If I select multiple copies in the evince print dialog, the copies will
be concatenated. You will only notice if there is some kind of post
processing of the pages, for example Duplex. The first page of the
second copy may end up on the back side of the last page of the first
copy. Booklet printing or saddle stich also lead to very absurd results.
(All copies stiched together)

Either I misunderstand the purpose of the option to print multiple
copies, or there is something wrong in the filter chain.

[Bug 369711] Re: Multiple copies of a job will be concatenated

2009-04-30 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: cups

If I select multiple copies in the evince print dialog, the copies will
be concatenated. You will only notice if there is some kind of post
processing of the pages, for example Duplex. The first page of the
second copy may end up on the back side of the last page of the first
copy. Booklet printing or saddle stich also lead to very absurd results.
  (All copies stiched together)

Either I misunderstand the purpose of the option to print multiple
copies, or there is something wrong in the filter chain.

[Bug 366471] Re: Calendar closed unexpectedly

2009-04-28 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
I am experiencing a similar problem:
As soon as calendar tries to get appointments from the google calendars it will
quit. The calendar window is still visible but it will not show any
appointments (not even from the local calendar). If I close evolution and
restart it, I will be able to use the local calendars as long as I don't
activate the google calendars.

This is a new problem. Last week (Jaunty release candidate) google
calendar worked fine.

2009-04-28 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
I would. However, after upgrading again (in order to get all the
dependencies right for the bug report) I cannot reproduce the bug. Maybe
there was some difficulty contacting google involved, so, if it happens
again, I will report a new bug. Thank you.

[Bug 357732] Re: cups always prints with the default page size

2009-04-27 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Michael Gefen, you said you used the following line:

lpr -P HL-2030-series -o PrintoutMode=Normal -o InputSlot=Default -o
PageSize=A4 -o PageRegion=A4 -o Duplex=None -o Quality=FromPrintoutMode

Just for debugging, please try and add -o media=A4
As mentioned earlier, I have experienced that using lpr with PageSize=A4 alone
does not work, because something will add a media=Letter to the options and
it seems to override the PageSize.

[Bug 365927] [NEW] emacs22-gtk forgets drawing window contents up to the next expose event

2009-04-24 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs22-gtk

Sometimes when the text that emacs is supposed to display changes, it
does not update the window.

See the screenshot which was taken after typing M-x gdb [RET]. The
cursor mark is in the right position, but the text to the left of the
mark is not updated at all. After switching to another workspace and
switching back, the window is updated.

Since I am also experiencing bug #326734 in gnome-terminal, I thought
these two bugs were the same, but the gnome-terminal thing could also be
a ncurses issue. I feel this issue it is related to gtk+/gdk/pango. It
looks like it is skipping drawing the window contents until the next
expose event fixes that. Maybe some race condition in event handlers or
something like emitting the expose event for the updated region before
actually updating the pixbuf...

[Bug 364571] Re: graphicsmagick can not handle YCbCr images with Planarconfiguration=2

2009-04-21 Thread Leonard Michlmayr
Probably I cannot even use a fix of this bug, because libtiff does not
support the compression algorithm 32769. I could not find any
documentation of that compression, so I doubt that I can ever read those
files. (Except for using the proprietary software that created them)
