[Bug 879957] [NEW] Backup fails after initially scanning older backups

2011-10-22 Thread Neil Robinson
Public bug reported:

This problem has only surfaced since upgrading to 11.10

Expected result:
Backup backs up files to external hard drive as it has previously done
flawlessly.

Action taken:
Run deja-dup.
Select make new backup.
Scanning starts, but stops and deja-dup reports Backup Failed.

Gives this error:
Failed to read /tmp/duplicity-Xxfwll-tempdir/mktemp-8Ylyy0-1: (type
'exceptions.IOError', IOError('CRC check failed 0x96cdfab != 0x8652a9f7L',),
traceback object at 0x86fcb44)

--

Incidentally, it restoring backups from the previous backups results in a
similar error.
I haven't tried restoring anything using duplicity directly.

[Bug 486271] Re: U1 on Karmic does not sync all files, but stills says Your files are up to date

2011-10-21 Thread Neil Robinson
I'm experiencing this bug on Oneiric.

Going to try to generate the debugging log file for this as described by
Joshua Hoover, and will post it when the problem resurfaces.

How do I generate the system information provided by the original bug
reporter for my system?

[Bug 879461] [NEW] UbuntuOne: no file transfer. GUI says file sync in progress, but u1sdtool --current-transfers reports errors

2011-10-21 Thread Neil Robinson
Public bug reported:

The UbuntuOne GUI keeps switching between File Sync is disconnected and File
sync in progress, but no file syncing appears to take place.
About 2Gb of files have already been uploaded, but nothing else will.
The folder structure of all the selected folders for syncing are shown on the
web-interface, but the files themselves are not all uploading.

u1sdtool --current-transfers returns this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
Failure: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did
not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not
send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply
timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

In addition, ubuntuone-syncdaemon process is using a lot of resources,
and is now at 566MiB memory and 100% CPU.

[Bug 874872] Re: Switching Users Fails

2011-10-19 Thread Neil Robinson
I have exactly this same problem, which only started after the upgrade
from 10.04 to 10.10

I'm using lightdm v1.0.1

Attaching the lightdm.log found at /var/log/lightdm/
--

I have quite a few user accounts set up on my system, so I've tried a
few variations on this issue. The problem appears to be linked to
administrative accounts.

Case 1:
After booting up:
1. Standard User 'bob' logs in at lightdm login screen.
2. bob selects fast-user switcher, and chooses Standard User 'sarah'
3. Standard User sarah logs in at lightdm login screen.
4. sarah logs out (or just switches back to lightdm)
5. bob logs back in.
6. bob selects fast-user switcher, and chooses Administrator User 'thor'
7. thor types in password at login prompt. Password input screen greys out and
thor is not logged in, as expected

Case 2:
After booting up:
1. Administrative User 'thor' logs in at lightdm login screen
2. thor selects fast-user switcher, and chooses Standard User 'sarah'
3. Standard User sarah enters password at lightdm login screen.
4. Password input screen greys out and sarah is not logged in, as expected

I've also noticed that typing in an incorrect password does *not* freeze
the password input box. Incorrect password error comes up, and an
opportunity to retype the password is provided. Typing the correct
password then freezes the box.

---

Please let me know how else I might help.
Thanks for your efforts.

Re: [Bug 709941] Re: Gwibber icon appears in systray. can't access it via indicator-applet

2011-04-12 Thread Neil Robinson
Yes.

I think it has something to do with corrupted config files, possibly
caused during distro upgrade.
I've had other weird behaviour from compiz and the gnome panel.

New user accounts don't have the problem.

How do I reset gwibber's config files to the default, without totally
removing all of my configurations for my home folder?

[Bug 709941] [NEW] Gwibber icon appears in systray. can't access it via indicator-applet

2011-01-29 Thread Neil Robinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-me

Expected outcome:
Clicking broadcast button runs gwibber and allows it to be used via the
inidcator applet menu (the envelope icon)

What actually happens:
On first clicking the Broadcast button on the dropdown menu from the Envelope,
nothing appears to happen.
However, gwibber has started and is running in the background as notifications
shortly appear on screen.

It isn't possible to post updates or change gwibber settings at this
point.

Clicking the broadcast button again runs another instance of gwibber,
which shows up with an icon in the systray. It is then possible to
interact with gwibber via this icon, but gwibber runs very unstable.

[Bug 361772] Re: black squares appearing instead of some letters when printing

2009-06-09 Thread Neil Robinson
I printed a text file yesterday with no problems, so I can positively
confirm that the script works for the Ricoh MP C2000 (and will probably
work for MP C2500 and MP C3000 -- models which share the same printer
manual).

Thanks again.

[Bug 361772] Re: black squares appearing instead of some letters when printing

2009-06-04 Thread Neil Robinson
The pdftops CUPS filter script, replacing /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops
fixes this problem for me (using a Ricoh MP C2000).

Unfortunately, installing the CUPS security upgrade today replaced the
script with the original binary blob, which in turn brought the problem
back.

Any way to avoid this happening again on the next CUPS upgrade? Can the
logic of the script not be incorporated somehow into the original
pdftops filter?

[Bug 374783] [NEW] [Jaunty] Prints Black rectangles instead of text using Ricoh MP C2000/C2500/C3000

2009-05-11 Thread Neil Robinson
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour:

Actual behaviour:
Printing a file replaces certain characters with black rectangles. Graphics
appear to print correctly.

[Bug 56978] Lexmark Z53 stops printing on upgrade from Breezy to Dapper

2006-08-20 Thread Neil Robinson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys-driver-gutenprint

I've checked through the other bug reports, and can't seem to find a bug
exactly like this one, although there are similar ones, namely:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/47557
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/6030
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/37241

The Lexmark Z53 worked flawlessly with the old gimp-print driver.
Now, using the recommended gutenprint driver, cups sends the job to the
printer, the printer receives it happily. But instead of printing, it simply
feeds the number of pages sent to it through the spool without actually putting
any ink on them.

Here are the relevant logs:

[Bug 56978] Re: Lexmark Z53 stops printing on upgrade from Breezy to Dapper

2006-08-20 Thread Neil Robinson
Yeah, there's still ink. :-)
When I say the printer feeds the paper through, I mean it doesn't even attempt
to print on the page. The print head doesn't move. It just pulls the paper
through as if I pressed the feed-page button on the printer itself.

The message from error_log occurred after attempting to print a test
page from the gnome-cups-manager.

I've tried to print from gedit, openoffice, firefox and evolution - all with
the same result (although not necessarily the same error logs - I haven't
checked that).
All worked perfectly in Breezy.

By the way, I'm using a USB connection (not sure whether that'll help)
