While I am the Debian maintainer for libfilezilla and filezilla, I help
with these in Ubuntu on my own dime. If anyone wishes to help and allow
me more time to do this type of work, you can donate via the link below.

[Bug 2061954] Re: filezilla crashed with SIGABRT in start_thread()

2024-05-10 Thread Phil Wyett
[ Impact ]

File reading is not correctly performed and leaves the dependent package
filezilla in a state where uplaoding of files causes error and crashes the
application.

[ Test Plan ]

* Create vanilla[1] Virtual Machines (VMs) - Ubuntu 24.04.

* Test the bug exists in the VMs.
  - Setup connections to my kathenas server.
  - Uplod and dowload a variety of file types.
# *.txt
# *.mp4
# *.mp3
# *.ogg
and others.

  * Create vanilla[1] Virtual Machines (VMs) - Ubuntu 24.04.

  * Test the bug is fixed with submitted patch built into package and installed
in the VMs.
  - Setup connections to my kathenas server.
  - Uplod and dowload a variety of file types.
# *.txt
# *.mp4
# *.mp3
# *.ogg
and others.

  * Tests performed over days and conencting randomly to perform upload and
download tests.

  * Check for bug feedback when built and enters proposed updates
repository.

[ Where problems could occur ]

The patch allows for correct operation by changing the IO behaviour and alters
no other operation of the application. The patch has negligible risk for the
users
of this library and the dependent package filezilla.

Only filezilla consumes this library and there is no risk to any other
library/application.

[ Other Info ]

None.

[1] These are installations that have only Ubuntu repositories and no
applications installed other than the default install ones and the
package being test.

This seems to only happen on xubuntu.

I have got a good core dump/trace and marked this bug as a duplicate
that bug. The bug will now be tested further and I will report it
upstream if required.

I cannot reproduce this in simple testing.

Can you provide additional information, such as;

* Host machine OS and info.
* Remote machine OS and info.
* SSH config used.
* Files types being transferred.
* Crash information when filezilla run from terminal, if any.

[Bug 1976556] [NEW] [Lenovo 300e 2nd GEN] ELAN Touchpad not working

2022-06-01 Thread phil
Public bug reported:

Used Ubunutu 22.04 with the current 5.15.x Kernel, cross tested with
Linux Mint and 5.14.x Kernel.

I have a Lenovo 300e 2nd Gen with an ELAN Touchscreen AND Touchpad with
AMD processor.

The Touchscreen is working flawlessly.
The TouchPAD is dead.

According to the Windows driver:

Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Expected behaviour:

The screen should not rotate until logged in again or there should be a

[Bug 1965958] Re: list-oem-metapackages crashed with AttributeError in packages_for_modalias(): 'Cache' object has no attribute 'packages'

2022-03-24 Thread Phil Clifford
After updating packages in a 22.04 ubuntu-mate VM on 24/3/22 I hit this
bug. Additionally of note the Brisk Menu icon in the session changed to
the Gnome "foot" (although the menu seemed unaffected). This logo
reverted to the Ubuntu Mate one after logging out and back in again.
Not important, but I wanted to flag this somewhere in case an upstream
fix in Solus brisk menu or in Ubuntu Mate might be desirable

** Also affects: brisk-menu (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

On Ubuntu-Mate 22.04 after this bug occurred the Brisk Menu logo had
changed to a Gnome foot (which returned to "normal" after restarting the

[Bug 1947789] [NEW] libpolyml-dev is missing files

2021-10-19 Thread Phil Clayton
Public bug reported:

There are issues with two files:

1. The file polyml.pc is not provided by any Poly/ML package. Without this,
pkg-config cannot be used to create the arguments for linking against
libpolyml: the command `pkg-config --libs polyml` fails instead of producing ld
flags. This issue was identified by a user in the following report:
https://github.com/giraffelibrary/giraffe/issues/2#issuecomment-940525255
(second half, relating to Poly/ML).

2. The file polyc is provided in the package polyml but the utility cannot work
without one of the files libpolyml.so or libpolyml.a provided in libpolyml-dev.
 libpolyml-dev is not a required by polyml so polyc should be provided by
libpolyml-dev. Otherwise, package installations appear broken, as reported by
a user in the following report:
https://github.com/polyml/polyml/issues/161

Note that the current package version, 5.7.1, was released nearly 4 years ago
at the time of reporting this bug:
https://github.com/polyml/polyml/releases/tag/v5.7.1
If this version is updated, it should be noted that the latest version, 5.8.2,
no longer depends on libffi. (Version 5.8.1 was the last version to depend on
libffi.)

** Affects: polyml (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

The problem seems to be

do_zfs  = false

in https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-

On the other hand, there must be some reason why it was set to false.

[Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows

2021-06-28 Thread Phil Hughes
I'm seeing the same thing after the recent update to Thunderbird 78.11.
Ubuntu 21.04 on Wayland. x11 is ok. In my case it appears to be related
to the Reminder dialogue opening. Some more details:

Start Thunderbird and make sure the Reminder dialogue does not open (eg by
snoozing any reminders in a previous session).
Open a few emails in new windows - everything works as normal.

Now set a calendar entry for a few minutes and wait for the reminder
dialogue to pop up.

Icon on dock shows indicator showing two open window
Open an email in a new window
Icon on dock shows indicator showing three open windows
Close email
Icon on dock still shows indicator showing three open windows
Icon on dock is now unresponsive to left click. Right-click shows the menu
listing all the windows you have opened, but is unresponsive and stays on the
screen. It goes if you press "Super" twice.

Then switch to Thunderbird using Alt-tab
Repeat until more than 4 windows have been opened - icon show the maximum 4
indicators.
Close Thunderbird using Quit from the menu (ps shows no running Thunderbird
processes)
Dock still shows icon with 4 indicators
Left or right click no longer does anything. A middle-click starts a new
instance of Thunderbird.

2021-05-14 Thread Phil Fenstermacher
Public bug reported:

We're running in to a case that's very similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dhcp/+bug/1872118 where the DHCP server
periodically crashes. Crashes sometimes take days to happen on
relatively busy DHCP servers. There's not an obvious reason, however the

keep meaning, but not disclose everything).

[Bug 1927211] [NEW] After latest update screen randomly flickers

2021-05-05 Thread Phil v
Public bug reported:

After the most recent automatic update, my screen will flicker randomly.
This is not screen tearing but a random, arbitrary flicker/tearing that
gets worse when i use calculator, terminal and firefox. It is
particularly bad when using firefox. It's reasonably stable when using
google chrome.

[Bug 1925056] Re: Dell XPS 13 9380 - System hangs when connecting bluetooth since kernel 5.6.0-1048-oem

2021-04-19 Thread da-phil
** Description changed:

  Since the kernel upgrade to 5.6.0-1048-oem my Dell XPS 13 9380 starts to
  hang and finally freezes when I want to connect to my AV-receiver over
  bluetooth. There is something funky going on in the kernel, hence I
  attached the dmesg kernel messages since system boot.

  All consecutive versions > 5.6.0-1048-oem show the same behaviour, hence
  I'm still booting 5.6.0-1047-oem currently.
+
+ I tried the 5.4 kernel series and the latest one (5.4.0-72-generic) was
+ also working fine.

  The only HW change I did to my Dell XPS 13 9380 was changing my SSD to a
  bigger Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB, everything is as I ordered it.

  I read about bluetooth vulnerability fixes in exactly the version where the
problem started here: https://ubuntu.com/security/notices/USN-4752-1
  Maybe that has something to do with the issue?

  Can somebody reproduce this issue?

[Bug 1925056] [NEW] Dell XPS 13 9380 - System hangs when connecting bluetooth since kernel 5.6.0-1048-oem

2021-04-19 Thread da-phil
Public bug reported:

Since the kernel upgrade to 5.6.0-1048-oem my Dell XPS 13 9380 starts to
hang and finally freezes when I want to connect to my AV-receiver over
bluetooth. There is something funky going on in the kernel, hence I
attached the dmesg kernel messages since system boot.

All consecutive versions > 5.6.0-1048-oem show the same behaviour, hence
I'm still booting 5.6.0-1047-oem currently.

I tried the 5.4 kernel series and the latest one (5.4.0-72-generic) was
also working fine.

[Bug 1910555] Re: Driver build error on kernel 5.8, but works on 5.4

2021-01-14 Thread Phil
Thanks @ZdravkoG

After re-installing Ubuntu, I was able to get the package onto the device using
a USB stick.
I then updated Ubuntu, and then installed the package from my Downloads folder.

However, upon reboot, I'm now taken to the GRUB boot menu. From there,
it is hit or miss on whether or not the laptop actually boots to the
desktop, no matter what options that I choose.

I'm just going to re-install Ubuntu from scratch and use this laptop as
I had been before the latest update. I'm too new with Ubuntu, and would
like to spend some time working with a working version.

I truly appreciate your assistance. Thanks!

[Bug 1887767] Re: ubuntu 20.04 ipxe boot fails

2020-11-18 Thread Phil Kauffman
This comment only serves to help OP an not debug the reason NFS boot
doesn't work.

I was able to boot the iso using http only:

kernel ${boot-url}nfs/focal/casper/vmlinuz
initrd ${boot-url}nfs/focal/casper/initrd
imgargs vmlinuz initrd=initrd boot=casper ip=dhcp
url=${boot-url}ubuntu/focal/ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso maybe-ubiquity
boot

If you find out how to boot via NFS I'd like to know how. :)

[Bug 1824282] Re: Add a mode that load nvidia.ko only so that we display on intel and do cuda deep learning in NV GPU

2020-11-16 Thread Phil Dibowitz
The commit referenced here is super useful:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ycheng-twn/junk/+git/nvidia-
prime/+ref/ubuntu/devel

However, what made it into Focal is super different - it uses nvidia to
drive the display but enables power management via a udev rule. That is
*also* useful, but it's not the same at all.

It would be useful to get the feature that was implemented here actually
released.

[Bug 1884248] Re: networkd-dispatcher gives corrupted information

2020-10-28 Thread Phil Turmel
Any hope for this bug? A look at the corrupted json suggests that
networkd-dispatcher is assembling it by parsing log entries (?!?!?).
Something about my environment must be generating log entries that fit
the filters it is using but are normally not present (or many others
would be complaining).

[Bug 1900395] Re: Memory Leak

2020-10-21 Thread phil darby
Disabling the (execute disable bit) xd bit in bios and disabling the
virtual machine options in bios appears to greatly have improved these
issues (at least for now) there arent many bios options on this
motherboard (including none at all for the ram) and at present I am not
sure which of these has improved the situation, but, it seems much
improved.

This particular pc seems to use excessive memory using most kernals,
compared to my other 2 computers running mint 18.3, this seems to have
helped quite a bit (at least for now).

I have also tried different memory sticks, just in case, with no
improvement.

Previously this machine was sometimes using the full 4 gb of ram within
an hour and not correctly releasing the memory when quitting programs,
it then slowed to virtually a stop.

At the moment I have a few things open including my browser and still
have 2.7 gb of memory free still, after, just under 4 1/2 hours, so, on
the face of it, it seems to have improved, I have also reverted to
kernal 4.13.0-32.

Not sure if any of this info is of any use, but, this seems to have
helped my situation and has made this pc usable now.

[Bug 1879001] Re: convert (imagemagick) hangs with some svg files on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-10-20 Thread Phil Driscoll
Just a note for anyone running MediaWiki, where this problem causes
pages to hang for several minutes until 'convert' times out. I worked
around the problem by installing rsvg (apt install librsvg2-bin) and
setting $wgSVGConverter = 'rsvg' in LocalSettings.php

[Bug 1900395] Re: Memory Leak

2020-10-19 Thread phil darby
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected staging sylvia

** Description changed:

  Kernal 4.15.0-107 has a memory leak on this pc I am using here the
  motherboard is an rm-ecoquiet-965 using 4 gb of ddr 2 667 ram and an
  intel T 8300 cpu together with a gt 220 512 mb.

  I have noticed this issue with several kernals and I know it is a
  strange pc set up, due to using laptop ddr2 and a laptop cpu, together
  with the graphics card which is a slimmed down gt 220 having 8 rops and
  24 shaders, instead of the more usual 48 shaders, it was built to keep
  electricity costs down as I spend a lot of time on my pc, it is
  basically a back up pc built during lock down, for those reasons, It was
  also, very cheap and uses laptop hard disks as well.

  I have been unable to pinpoint the exact source of the memory leak,
  which, is never the less present as the two kernals, below, do not
  display the same problems.

  4.15.0-45 works fine on it, without issues, as does 4.13.0-32.

  For anyone else, who may encounter this issue.

[Bug 1900395] [NEW] Memory Leak

2020-10-19 Thread phil darby
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-09-29 Thread Phil
@Daniel, is it possible to add a repo for this fix early ahead of coming
down in the release repos?

On the release repos I have the latest version.

mutter is already the newest version (3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2).

Cheers for any advice

So far things booted up fine. Since this was an intermittent (albeit often)

I'll keep you posted.

[Bug 1884248] Re: networkd-dispatcher gives corrupted information

2020-08-10 Thread Phil Turmel
I'm a recent upgrader from bionic to focal thanks to a new System76
laptop that came with 20.04 pre-installed. I've been moving my
netplan/dnsmasq configuration over to the new laptop and ran into this
bug (I use a networkd-dispatcher script to pass DNS to dnsmasq via
openresolv). I added a temporary script to save the entire environment
to file. This is what I get:

2020-08-09 Thread Phil Marsh
Hi Daniel,
Thanks so much for your email and for your efforts looking into this for me!
The idea of upgrading to 20.04 is well-taken but involves substantial
effort to bring up my servers. Therefore, I will first try upgrading my
Nvidia to say libnvidia-cfg1-440 and libnvidia-common-440 etc because
these are the latest Nvidia packages as listed in my Synaptic app on Ubuntu
18.04? Does that make sense?
I will back up my OS prior as I alway maintain a nightly backup of my OS
via ZFS snapshots.
Thanks again and best,
Phil

[Bug 1890843] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2020-08-07 Thread Phil Marsh
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit with Gnome III. Action to see bug:
1. double left mouse click on launcher icon on left toolbar (usually happens
with Chromium Browser icon)
2. Desired result: Drop down menu appears with options to open Chromium browser
3. Actual result when bug appears: Drop down menu appears then whole desktop
freezes. No further mouseclicks on display work. Dropdown menu remains frozen
on display.
4. Current workaround:
When bug appears, the desktop can be unfrozen via cntl-alt-del keys but the
drop-down menu remains frozen in place. Next, the frozen drop-down menu can now
be closed by clicking on the "Activities" menu on the upper-left corner of the
desktop and then clicking on the icon with the frozen drop-down menu. These
actions close the frozen drop-down menu and restore normal operation of the
Gnome III for a while until the bug pops up again. This bug has become
especially common now rendering the desktop almost unusable and I'm thinking of
replacing Gnome III due to this.
Thanks, Phil

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-07-15 Thread Phil Hudson
Found in a post on Reddit, a workaround that worked for me via GUI. Even
though this is still a bug I wanted to help this workaround get more
exposure.

```
Just installed 20.04. Same issue. But i have a workaround that doesn't involve
manual settings with xrandr.
If i set them so that all monitors align at the bottom, it works as
expected. This makes for a bit of wonky cursor movement screen-to-
screen, but it's usable for now until it gets fixed.
Something about the nvdidia driver seems to not be able to map the
position to any other configuration. It does not work if for me if I
align them all at the top, only with them all aligned at the bottom.
