[Bug 1544094] Re: kworker 100% CPU usage on Xen PV (AWS)

2016-02-13 Thread Ross Golder
I've also observed this with the 4.2.0-25 kernel update.

Currently working around it by installing an older kernel (4.2.0-19) and
updating the 'default' in /boot/grub/menu.lst accordingly.

[Bug 1485558] Re: NetworkManager breaks vboxnet* connections since 15.04, worked in 14.04 and 14.10, nm-applet fills with irrelevant entries.

2015-08-30 Thread Ross Golder
It seems the 15.04 version of network manager (0.9.10) is now quite out-
of-date (!).

https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager/

From
https://download.gnome.org/sources/NetworkManager/1.0/NetworkManager-1.0.4.news

* The management of devices can now be controlled with udev rules. The veth
devices as well as the virtual Ethernet devices of various
virtualization tools (VMWare, VirtualBox, Parallels Workstation) are
now ignored by default.

Attached - what the network manager applet now looks like.

All my VPN connections are off the bottom of my screen, so I currently
have to use 'nmcli' from a terminal to control them :(

[Bug 1245272] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to Shift+Shift

2013-11-23 Thread Ross Golder
With latest packages (gnome-control-center 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu45.1, gnome-
settings-daemon 3.8.5-0ubuntu11.1.) Shift+Shift still does not work for
me. When I try to set it in thecontrol panel UI, it sets it as
'Disabled'.

Also, even though it's marked as Disabled in the control panel, the
keyboard indicator applet still changes between the two sources when
Shift+Shift are pressed - however, the source doesn't actually change -
so regardless of what is displayed in the indicator, it keeps typing in
the original source. It seems I have to grab the mouse and change the
layout using the keyboard indicator, which is fairly
frustrating/confusing.

Another unusual behaviour is that, despite only having 'US
International' and 'Thai' chosen for layouts in the control panel, I
seem to randomly end up in a UK layout (shift-3 being a UK pound sign),
and have to grab for the mouse again to get back to US. I have language
set to 'English (United Kingdom)'), but that should not affect the
keyboard layout, should it? Can anyone shed any light on this unexpected
behaviour?

[Bug 450645] Re: error during slapd configuration: chown: cannot access `olcDbDirectory\nolcDbDirectory'

2010-09-01 Thread Ross Golder
Thanks, Nathan.

FWIW, working from your patch, I added /dev/null as an argument to the
grep, and had the 'cut' take the third field (as the first is now the
filename), threw in a 'head -1' (hackishly, as I know that's the only
one I need to update) and have now successfully completed the postinst.

In my case, I modified the lines to the following (sorry, not in patch
format):

grep -h olcSuffix ${SLAPD_CONF}/cn\=config/olcDatabase* /dev/null | head
-1 | cut -d: -f 3

grep olcDbDirectory: `grep -l olcSuffix: $1
${SLAPD_CONF}/cn\=config/olcDatabase*.ldif` /dev/null | head -1 | cut
-d: -f 3 | sed 's/^ *//g'

[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5

2010-03-27 Thread Ross Golder
Josh says:

* The remote desktop solution in Ubuntu uses the VNC backend which can't
read from hardware accelerated displays.

When I initially connect to the vino server, it gives me a snapshot of
the screen as I connect to it, it's just not feeding the updates.
Doesn't this suggest it *can* read the display memory from hardware
accelerated displays? I *know* wobbly windows works through a VNC
viewer, albeit a bit jerky, as I had it working at one point, so I'm
sure it's possible (whether that was with nVidia hardware or not I don't
recall).

Re: adding a notice for users. Looking at the other comments on the
ticket, and from my own experience, I'm fairly sure that this bug is
simply a regression in something that used to work fine a few years ago.
It's not a whole new problem we suddenly have to face, it's just gone
unfixed for a long time. For that reason, hacky scripts that tell users
that Ubuntu/Linux can't do something (that it used to be able to) and
instead tell them to 'go reconfigure!' should be avoided *at all costs*,
IMHO. Not only does it look bad to users, but it would be a massive
waste of time/resources as it would mean more UI code would need to be
written/tested/discussed/translated/approved/released/maintained etc.
(all in a short time frame, by a large number of people, to get it into
the upcoming release!) as a workaround - only for it all to become
redundant the moment this bug gets investigated and resolved by a
capable developer who's familiar enough with the code to fix it.

[Bug 418130] Re: Karmic EC2 images don't use a karmic kernel

2009-10-15 Thread Ross Golder
I've created an instance of alpha6, but it's missing the 'ext4' module.
Any ideas why?

I went to set up an instance with that ari/aki, but I don't see them in
the selection on the Amazon Management Console when launching an
instance.

[Bug 439407] Re: Abort class-pclzip.php : Missing zlib extensions

2009-10-14 Thread Ross Golder
Seeing as this seems to be a build/packaging problem
(/usr/lib/php5/zlib.so not getting into PHP5 package), shouldn't this be
re-filed under PHP?

[Bug 295536] Re: cups-pdf fails bad status reported and no pdf created

2009-01-30 Thread Ross Golder
Confirmed. The following workaround even with PDF as a symlink to an
encrpyted Private/PDF :)

$ sudo aa-complain cupsd
Setting /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd to complain mode.

Thanks, Le Gluon Du Net.

[Bug 163987] Re: jabberd2-bdb is missing the files in component.d directory on amd64

2007-12-30 Thread Ross Golder
Attaching a tarball of the component.d directory as a workaround for
those without access to a i386 platform, or without the time or skills
to find/extract the necessaries from an i386 deb (while waiting for this
bug to be dealt with).

[Bug 99210] Re: bdb_db_open: alock package is unstable

2007-12-27 Thread Ross Golder
I've just had this problem, and solved it. Check the perms on your
/var/lib/ldap directory and files to ensure that the 'openldap' user can
write to it. I had mine left as 'root' from having just done a 'slapadd'
:)

[Bug 55723] Re: Missing X-Spam-* headers

2007-04-12 Thread Ross Golder
This is still happening for me on both a dapper and an edgy server.

I've set $sa_tag_level_deflt = -999 and added the the @local_domain_maps
to /etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user, restarted amavisd and I'm still not
getting these headers.

[Bug 55723] Re: Missing X-Spam-* headers

2007-04-12 Thread Ross Golder
Scratch that. I hadn't RTFMed the README.Debian. I didn't understand
that I was supposed to uncomment the 'bypass'_*_checks in
/etc/amavis/conf.d/15-content_filter_mode, so SpamAssassin wasn't even
running. Working now.
