I downloaded the Jaunty ISO and re-installed Jaunty. Now it is working
fine. Although, I wouldn't say that this bug was resolved.

I am facing this problem for the past 3 days. I have a fully updated
system, but there is no effect on the problem. How do I solve it? Should
I completely remove the above mentioned packages and then install them
again?

[Bug 352362] Re: After upgrade to Jaunty Beta my machine shows different problems, , random high load, no meta key, etc.

2009-04-24 Thread SanketMedhi
I can confirm this problem. It started for me after I upgraded to
Jaunty. My desktop preferences don't work. I have tried everything I
found on the Internet including the ones mentioned above. Please find a
screenshot attached.

This is definitely a problem with the gnome-settings-daemon as you can
see in the screenshot.

I tried running e2fsck for my root partition (I do not have a separate
partition for /home). It is clean and no errors are detected.

Most applications don't work including media players, etc. Also,
keyboard shortcuts don't work for the most part. I am just happy Firefox
and Synaptic are working. Please suggest a solution.

[Bug 366313] [NEW] Gnome desktop preferences fail to load

2009-04-24 Thread SanketMedhi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

The symptoms of this bug are exactly like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352362 . However, trying to fix a clean
partition is not a solution. The problem is still persistent for me.

My system is an HP Pavilion 9000 series entertainment notebook. I have a
completely up-to-date system.

It started for me after I upgraded to Jaunty. My desktop preferences
don't work. I have tried everything I found on the Internet including
the ones mentioned above. Please find a screenshot attached.

This is definitely a problem with the gnome-settings-daemon as you can
see in the screenshot.

I first tried deleting the ~/.gconf/monitors.xml file which worked for several
users who reported similar problems, didn't work for me though.
I tried running e2fsck for my root partition (I do not have a separate
partition for /home). It is clean and no errors are detected.
Amazingly, I found the above mentioned bug file and I am facing exactly the
symptoms that have been mentioned by the users, but fixing the broken file
system worked for them, I don't have a broken file system in the first place.
And, this problem is for all users in the system not just me.

Most applications don't work including media players, etc. Also,
keyboard shortcuts don't work for the most part. I am just happy Firefox
and Synaptic are working. Please suggest a solution.

[Bug 309602] Re: gnome-settings-daemon segmentation fault

2009-04-23 Thread SanketMedhi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 314406 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314406

I confirm this bug. I have had this problem for the last 3 days, since I
upgraded to Jaunty (pre-release).

However, the workaround mentioned above by deleting the
~/.config/monitors.xml file does not work for me. Please resolve this
issue asap, I am really frustrated by this.

[Bug 244100] [NEW] Selected items get deselected automatically

2008-06-29 Thread SanketMedhi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

First of all, a few items from my menu disappeared on their own. These
include important ones which I use a lot like Synaptic in the System
Administration menu.

I try to select it back using Alacarte, it gets selected but within 2
seconds the check box gets deselected back on its own. I don't know of
any other way to edit my menu and am totally frustrated because of this
minor problem.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 x86_64 with all updates. I am also
using Compiz GLX, I have tried it without Compiz with same results.

$ apt-cache policy alacarte
