2018-10-14 Thread Alessio "Spinus" Moscatello via ubuntu-bugs
Hello,
sorry for the delay, I've tested kernel 4.15.0-38-generic, but the problem is
not solved.
Wifi seems, connect, but I cannot ping my domestic router...it seems that there
are some problem sending packet on the Wifi connection, rather than
establishing the connection with the Wifi router...
Is there any other test I can perform?

[Bug 1796576] [NEW] rtl8723be cannot connect to wifi since Kernel version 4.15.0-33-generic

2018-10-07 Thread Alessio "Spinus" Moscatello via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Starting from Kernel version linux-image-4.15.0-33-generic I cannot connect
anymore to wifi network. The problem occurs also with
linux-image-4.15.0-34-generic.
Kernel version linux-headers-4.15.0-32-generic is working fine.

My current configuration for rtl8723be is
/etc/modprobe.d/rtlbtcoex.conf:
options rtl8723be ant_sel=2 ips=0

I'm using these parameters with for rtl8723be module in order to get the
correct gain for Wifi antenna.

[Bug 997017] Re: Empathy not connecting to Gtalk

2012-05-31 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
I confirm that if I connect the my pc at home, where there aren't proxy,
empathy starts to work as soon as I disable proxy system wide.
I think that the problem is more serious, because I've noticed that also gnome
extension installation (from https://extensions.gnome.org/) doesn't work if I'm
using the proxy.

P.S: the proxy address that I'm using is working, because I use it in
Firefox

I've just found out why the auth log is not present: empathy-auth-client
was not running...if I manually start /usr/lib/empathy/empathy-auth-
client, the Empathy.Auth appears...

P.S. I'm behind a proxy, but Gtalk was working on oneiric (even if
connecting to Gtalk was requiring some minutes...)

Thanks for the tip, I've installed alsa-hda-dkms version

[Bug 844241] Re: Backlight not restored when moving the mouse

2011-10-22 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Adding lightdm because I've discovered another issue:
1)boot Ubuntu
2)leave pc idle without logging in
3)after 10 minutes (as I've set in screen settings) the screen goes standby
4)I cannot restore backlight even using keyboard shortcut (I think because I'm
not logged in)
5)I've only one user so the focus is on password field, so I can enter the
password although the screen is off
6)As soon the system enter Gnome session I can restore backlight using keyboard
shortcut

Is a strange problem...maybe it affects more modules (ligthdm, gnome-
power-manager, graphic card driver??...), but I cannot reproduce it on
other laptops, does anyone have a tip on how to isolate this bug to help
resolving it?

Thanks

in fact now .docx and .xlsx are opened with LibreOffice, but if I test
it using file it says that they are zip file...

$ file -i test2.docx

$ file -i test.xlsx
test.xlsx: application/zip; charset=binary

Is it the expected behaviour?

[Bug 844241] Re: Backlight not restored moving mouse

2011-10-16 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
I've just changed bug description and title, because I've noticed that the
problem is independent from dim screen to save power
So the problem is very simple: the backlight is not restored when I move the
mouse, but I must manually turn on it.

The problem is present in only one of my laptop, precisely an Asus
K50IJ; the graphic card is an Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated
Graphics Controller [8086:2A42]

2011-10-14 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
I'm adding K50IJ to the title, because I've the same problem...
An additional note: when I was using Natty I where able to mute the laptop
speaker unmuting front channell and then switching it to 100%: doing so the
internal speaker where muted, and the external headphones where unmuted...now
in Oneiric regulating front channel changes internal speaker and external

[Bug 844241] Re: Dim on idle does not brighten with activity

2011-09-18 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Sorry for the delay...
I've an Intel graphic card
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
After some other investigation I will try to summarise the problem, because
I've seen different behaviour with dim enabled/disabled

With dim enabled:
1)leave pc idle
2)when the monitor goes black wait a few minutes
3)move the mouse/keyboard but the screen remains black, even if you change
screen brightness using the special key (Fn-F6)

With dim disabled:
1)leave pc idle
2)when the monitor goes black wait a few minutes
3)move the mouse/keyboard but the screen remains black
4)if you change increase screen brightness using the special key (Fn-F6) the
back light turn on and I can use the pc

Note: if I leave the pc idle for about an hour with even with dim disabled I
cannot any more restore the back light

Feel free to ask me clarification if my description is not very clear...

[Bug 808512] Re: No way to configure screensaver in Oneiric

2011-09-04 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
I've just upgraded from natty to oneiric and I have the same issue: if I leave
the pc idle for a while the screen goes black and if I leave it black for some
minutes, than I cannot resume the session, because no password dialog
appears...If I manually lock the screen and than try to resume the session it
works well, because the password dialog appears.
So I'm wondering if there is no way to configure a screensaver, what program is
triggering the black screen? (in may system is installaed xscreensaver
package...maybe it conflicts with gnome3?) John do you know if there are other
bug report concerning our problem?
Thank you

[Bug 841109] [NEW] Cannot restore session after locking screen

2011-09-04 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from natty to oneiric I've started experiencing this
issue: if I leave the pc idle for some minutes the screen goes black
(because I think that there isn't a default screensaver - see #808512),
but I cannot re-enter my session, because the password dialog doesn't
come up.

Steps to reproduce:
1)enter the session
2)leave the session idle
3)when the screen goes black wait 5/10 minutes
4)move the mouse/pres some keys
5)the screen remains black

Note: if you move the mouse immediately after the screen goes black
(step 2), the password dialog came up and I'm able to enter the
password...

Manually locking the screen via menù or keyboard settings trigger the
same issue.

P.S: I don't know if this bug is related to gnome-control-center or
gnome-screensaver of other package, because I cannot exactly figure out
what is going bad...

[Bug 660184] Re: maverick - headphone jack doesn't mute speakers on 82801I HD Audio Controller

2010-10-13 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Thank you for the tip!
I've installed the latest alsa modules following the guide, but the problem is
still present; but I've noticed that now if plug the jack and then switch the
output from Analog output to Analog Headphone I can hear a very weak sound
from the headphones (and nothing from the internal speaker)...
There is something else I should try? Or we should forward the bug upstream?

P:S. in alsamixer the headphone slider is still disabled

upgrading to Maverick beta the Elan touchpad started working, but the

[Bug 459695] Re: KDE has not Shutdown/Restart buttons if started from GDM

2009-11-15 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Same problem, and I've also noticed that I can't switch the user: in fact it
simply lock current session, but doesn't not start another session!
I've tried to use Lancelot, but it doesn't work too because it can't find the
display manager
Lancelot can not find your display manager. This means that it not able to
retrieve the list of currently running sessions, or start a new one.

P.S: on Jaunty I didn't have any problems..so I think the problem is a
protocol change on GDM...

[Bug 463738] [NEW] Motorola K3 doesn't work on Karmic

2009-10-29 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: modemmanager

My Motorola K3 worked fine under Jaunty, but it stopped working in a
fresh installation of Karmic.

Today I've just realized that the issue can be resolved upgrading
modemmanager from version 0.2.git.20091014t233208.16f3e00-0ubuntu1
(current Karmic version) to version
0.2.git.20091027t005933.4e74953-0ubuntu2~nmt1 (taken from NetworkManager
daily trunk builds PPA).

So I'm asking if this version can be pulled in Karmic repositories,
because I think it could resolve problems with other phones like mine...

Thunderbird crashes while sending a mail and the server doesn't reply.
Steps to reproduce the issue:

1)send a mail to a smtp server that doesn't reply
2)wait till an error dialog appears
3) press Ok - thunderbird crashes
If thunderbird doesn't crash at the first time, repeat from 1)

[Bug 373411] [NEW] update-grub generates buggy menu.lst if it doesn't exist

2009-05-07 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

I've deleted menu.lst and then I've used update-grub to generate a new
one, but it had generated a menu.lst containing an invalid option.

To be more precise update-grub inserted this line
kopt=root=/boot/grub/D=d0715ae0-e29f-4447-83f6-d1564785c6ae ro
so my system doesn't startup, because it doesn't find the device.
The correct string should be
kopt=root=UUID=d0715ae0-e29f-4447-83f6-d1564785c6ae ro

[Bug 346840] Re: Buddy List taskbar icon shows on all virtual desktops

2009-04-25 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
** Description changed:

- On Ubuntu Jaunty (updated to today 22 March 2009), with Pidgin 2.5.5,
- The Buddy List taskbar icon (below in the bottom GNOME panel), shows on
- all virtual desktops. While the window is only actually visible on a
- single virtual desktop.
+ On Ubuntu Jaunty final release with Pidgin version 2.5.5-1ubuntu8 the
+ Buddy List taskbar icon (below in the bottom GNOME panel), shows on all
+ virtual desktops. While the window is only actually visible on a single
+ virtual desktop.

This is weird and broken behaviour. The taskbar button for the Buddy
List should only show on the virtual desktop where the actual window is
present. And NOT on other virtual desktops.

I'm suspecting this broken behaviour was explicitly patched in.

Although I'm not entirely sure, the following patch might be the culprit:
11_buddy_list_really_show.patch

Please revert Pidgin to normal behaviour... The windows manager should
manage the windows... not the application itself!
