[Bug 726790] Re: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when lucid is the target

2011-12-26 Thread Taco
Using version 0.12.4+bzr469-0ubuntu1 I also get the exception that the
device is busy. When I insert a run_cmd('sync') just before the umount
command it works OK and building finishes without the exception.

So, the /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-
packages/VMBuilder/plugins/ubuntu/dapper.py file contains:

def unmount_dev(self):
self.context.cancel_cleanup(self.unmount_dev)
run_cmd('sync') # added by me

But \undefined is a completely valid TeX command. Mind that I am
 even using \newcommand here.

Well, let's say it is a perfectly valid command that you shouldn't
be defining. In non-etex mode, the only way to test for the existence
of a control sequence is by comparing it to an undefined one, and
Hans chose \undefined, and I don't think using a more bizarre one will
actually solve anything.

 Well, something like
 \makeatletter

 ...
 \makeatother
would probably protect against these errors, I mean, isn't it still
good practice to use some @ in internal command names ...

This is purely a LaTeX convention.

 Or some \l...@original...

As for now I can imagine *many* usages of \undefined as normal command,

Well, in one-and-a-half decades of \undefined, you are the first
person to run into this and complain (there could be more that
didn't complain, of course). But I'll talk it over with Hans.

2009-08-01 Thread taco
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 258603 ***

I got it installed. It appears the issue was with the secondary HDD being used
as /home. I had it mounted in mtab before the installation as
/dev/sdb1 /media/home auto user,noexec 0 0
ubiquity failed on user creation. It was able to create the home folder on
/dev/sdb1 but it was unable to go any further for whatever reason, might have
had to do with the way I had the drive mounted (although it was unmounted at
the time of installation). There was data on the drive (.tar.gz files with
files to be restored) and the partition was being used as-is, not formatted.

[Bug 344198] Re: .ppsx (Office 2007 slideshows) files not recognized

2009-05-15 Thread Taco
Somebody just sent me a PPSX file and I ran into the same issue (using
Jaunty up-to-date as of today).

According to Wikipedia[1] PPSX is a Microsoft Office 2007 XML Show
document. Ubuntu recognizes it as a ZIP file. If I change the extension
to PPTX, it's associated with OpenOffice.org Presentation. If I open it,
I still have to select a filter however. Selecting the Microsoft
Powerpoint 2007 XML filter opens it successfully.

Proposal: associate PPSX with OpenOffice.org Presentation just like PPTX
because OO.org can open the file type.
Caveat: I don't know anything about Microsoft Office so I might be wrong. But
in that case this bug could be closed as WONTSOLVE.

Attached are two logs, one of a success (X starts normally) and one of a
failure (X hangs). The diff is from failure to success (i.e. the success
log is much longer).

Configuration and hardware are identical between the attempts. (Empty
xorg.conf, LCD screen attached to analog output.) Tests were performed
within 10 minutes of each other.

$ lspci | grep ATI

$ uname -a
Linux cambyses 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686

Module versions are in the logs.

Is this useful or is other information required?

It seems to work with DVI here as well. I rebooted several times but it
started successfully every time. Log attached.

[Bug 274290] Re: Intrepid daily, X Server hangs on ATI Radeon 9200 SE RV280

2008-11-05 Thread Taco
All I can say is that it's very unreliable. Usually it doesn't work for
me either, but at this moment it works... (For example my TV card
doesn't work with the vesa driver but it works now so it's really using
the ati driver.)

2008-11-05 Thread Taco
Hi Bryce,

sounds like you may have an unrelated issue.

It's possible yes, I've seen it hang most of the times though. Is there
something I can try to find out? I'm using the analog connection at this
moment by the way although my LCD screen supports DVI as well so I can
try both.

[Bug 291647] [NEW] Nautilus deletes all users directories when unmounting Sandisk Sansa MP3 player in MSC mode

2008-10-31 Thread taco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When unmounting a Sandisk Sansa e260 MP3 player (in MSC mode) after
deleting files, Nautilus gives a prompt that there are files in the
garbage bin that must be deleted before removing the drive.

Clicking on the option Empty the garbage bin results in a file operations
window that hangs on preparing, and causes all user files be deleted without
warning (contents of the user's Home, contents of mounted drives - the only
things that was not deleted were system files and one user folder on a mounted
drive that did not have write access for some reason).
Selecting do not empty trash does not cause any problems.

It was my partner that (inadvertently) did this the first time, and I
successfully repeated it following the same steps multiple times.

This was on a system installed from the 8.10 beta iso, and was updated
most recently on 30th of October, with Nautilus version
1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)

[Bug 291647] Re: Nautilus deletes all users directories when unmounting Sandisk Sansa MP3 player in MSC mode

2008-10-31 Thread taco
It is reproducible on my system by

1. plug in mp3 player by USB
2. when Nautilus prompts what to do with the device select open folder
3. either delete files on the mounted filesystem or already have a trash folder
present
4. right click on the icon for the mp3 player on the desktop and select unmount
5. at the nautilus prompt advising that it needs to empty the trash, select
empty garbage bin
6. wait a few minutes while the file operations dialogue says preparing (but
just appears to hang)
7. cancel the file operations dialogue
8. Home directory will now not load nor will additional mounted hard drives open
9. logout and back in
10. all config files in home will now have disappeared, appearing as if this is
my first login again

I am unsure if this is relevant but the trash folder on the mp3 player
is called .trash-1000 rather than just .trash for some reason

I haven't attempted to reproduce this yet on another system or with
other forms of removable storage

2008-10-16 Thread Taco
Today's updates make my Radeon work, with the default (empty) xorg.conf.
Nice!

Tested with xserver-xorg-video-ati version
1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2 (intrepid). I suppose that's the
package that counts here.

[Bug 274290] Re: Intrepid daily, X Server hangs on ATI Radeon 9200 SE RV280

2008-10-10 Thread Taco
Using the vesa driver seems to work now. I'm typing this from an up-to-
date Intrepid on a system with an ATI Radeon 9200 SE.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
(rev 01)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
(Secondary) (rev 01)

Using the ati driver fails for me too..

[Bug 52466] sis not detected on Acer 3630 laptop

2006-07-09 Thread Taco Witte
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-sis

Using the most recent Dapper on my laptop (Acer Aspire 3630), the
graphics card isn't detected. Vesa is used instead. In addition, the
resolution is wrong.

My laptop:
 - system-manufacturer: Acer, inc.
 - system-product-name: Aspire 3630
 - system-version: Not Applicable.

Specifically, it's the 3633 from the 3630 series.

My graphics card according to lspci:
:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]
661/741/760/761 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter

The vesa driver is used instead of sis. The resolution is 1024x768
instead of 1280x800.

If I change vesa to sis and add the correct resolution in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf everything works well.
