[Bug 1891264] [NEW] When clicking the url link in keepass the web browser fails to open and the response is an error message "cannot find requested file". This still works correctly with Keepass 2.38

[Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application

2012-11-22 Thread Terry Jones
This is a major issue for me on 12.04 and is a basic desktop feature.

Once the fix is released I think it is very important that it be
provided as an update to the 12.04 LTS release.

[Bug 976632] Re: nfs4 mounts are not mapping userids, uses nobody/nogroup

2012-11-07 Thread Terry Jones
I have seen the same problem on a recent upgrade of a client from 10.04
to 12.04.

The server is still running 10.04 at this stage. To get the right ownership
showing on the client I had to uncomment the
'Domain = localdomain'
line as suggested.

The interesting bit is that another client which has just had 12.04 installed
as a new installation works correctly with teh same server out of the box with
the
'Domain = localhost'
line commented out.

Perhaps there is some other configuration file that should be changed on
upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04.

Any suggestions ?

As far as I can determine this is still unresolved.

I can connect to my vpn using a suitably configured script file from the
command line, but am still unable to do it via the network manager
applet.

[Bug 1026395] Re: vpnc fails with get_secrets: assertion `secrets_idx SECRETS_REQ_LAST' failed

2012-08-02 Thread Terry Jones
The behaviour I am seeing with the OpenVPN plugin is a little different,
but still gives the same result.

The private key password does not seem to be displayed in the VPN edit
window. I had assumed that this was a security feature, but perhaps it
is not being saved? Anyway despite attempting to save the password
several times it does not show up in the window when the VPN is reopened
for editing I don't get asked for the password when trying to connect
and I still get the same error get_secrets: assertion `secrets_idx
SECRETS_REQ_LAST failed when trying to connect.

Personaly I preferred the behaviour in version 10.04 where the private
key password could be stored in the keyring. I don't know why this was
changed.

[Bug 765438] Re: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop

2012-07-19 Thread Terry Jones
Thanks czonzalez this worked perfectly:

then you have to add to kernel boot parameters:

acpi_backlight=vendor
i915.invert_brightness=1

you can make them permant by editing /etc/default/grub , editing this
line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
i915.invert_brightness=1

then run:

update-grub2

now you have your brightness working as on kernel 2.6-idontremember...

[Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to valid display with no backlight

2012-04-26 Thread Terry Jones
Seth sorry for the long time to reply, I had given up on this bug and do
not check my email often.

Can you specify exactly the last release or kernel version you used that
worked properly? Thanks! Can you specify exactly the last release or kernel
version you used that worked properly? Thanks!
I cannot say exactly but it was around June 2011. I did not report a bug
because I was hoping some updated would fix it.

1. What's the output of 'cat
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/device/firmware_node/path'? Does it change
based on whether or not you pass acpi_osi=Linux?
terry@terry-eMachines-E725:~$ cat
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/device/firmware_node/path
\_SB_.PCI0.OVGA (I am now using acpi_osi= with a space after the =)

2. Does the acpi_video0 backlight work when you pass acpi_osi=Linux?
Yes, but I have to use the brightness adjustment otherwise it is a black screen.
The brightness keys are reversed ( Fn+Dim makes brighter)

3. Did the function keys work to adjust the brightness in older Ubuntu versions?
Can't say for sure as I never needed to adjust.

I'm suspecting that several things are broken about the backlight
implementation in the bios on this machine that are worked around using a
special driver in Windows.
That is a good posibility.

2012-04-26 Thread Terry Jones
Can you specify exactly the last release or kernel version you used
that worked properly? Thanks!

Additional information which may or may not be of help. On my hard
drive I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed which has no issues with the
backlight. I test with installs to USB thumb drives. One thumb drive I
change the software source to point to the newest development version.
The other thumb drive, I install the first daily live to get a clean
start. Any CD that I try to boot and install to USB from has to have
nomodeset to boot. This is also in all current non Ubuntu desktop (so
the bug is not specific to Ubuntu)

[Bug 978622] [NEW] every app becomes unresponsive when nautilus is copying files

2012-04-11 Thread Terry Jones
Public bug reported:

When copying a large amount of data from one folder to another folder on
the same partition it is causing all other applications to become
unresponsive, most noticably Firefox 11.0.

Amount of data be copied (79GB) at a rate of between 18-30MBps, using
the simple procedure of right clicking a folder, selecting copy and
pasting it into another folder.

During the copying process all other applications hang, or take a good
3-5 minutes to open up. Once open they become unresponsive - - all is
rectified once the copy process is complete.

Core i7 950

the issue is a kernel io handling, scheduler one

What does that actually mean? I have sent it through with the wrong
details or is it limited to just my system?

[Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to black screen

2012-02-22 Thread Terry Jones
Joseph, I installed the kernel image and the header packages per your
link.

terry@terry-eMachines-E725:~$ uname -a
Linux terry-eMachines-E725 3.3.0-030300rc4-generic #201202181935 SMP Sun Feb 19
00:36:30 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
oo
This did not change anything. A regular boot still has a black screen which I
can barely see the login prompt.
The key board brightness does not work. I can login, hear the startup sound,
but the screen is still black.
Again, a flashlight faintly shows my desktop.

Using the boot paremeter acpi_osi=Linux boots alowing my brightness keys
to show a screen (although they are reversed)

Thanks,
Terry

[Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to black screen

2012-02-19 Thread Terry Jones
Bryce,

I subscribed you to this bug. It is problably a dupclicate, but I think
it is a Kernel bug. With this being a 5 year support, I think it needs
addressed. It does not bother me, as there is workarounds, but for a
new user with the same hardware it could scare them off as a first
impression.

Thanks,
Terry

Status: General Oneiric

We’ve almost resolved all the issues from the v3.0 fallout. We’re just
wrestling with module-init-tools to get depmod sorted out. We’ve rebased
to v3.0-rc2 and pushed to master-next. With v3.0-rc2, there’s an issue
on boot (black screen of death) when the i915 driver is loaded. This can
be worked around using i915.modeset=0 at the moment. There’s also
reported boot issues on some system’s with atom processors on at least
v3.0-rc1. So, I’m a bit hesitant to upload at the moment knowing we’ll
break some common hardware use cases.

2012-02-18 Thread Terry Jones
The above post is why I think this is a kernel bug. My machine runs Ubuntu
10.04 with kernel 2.6.38-38 perfectly.

[Bug 934707] [NEW] emachine e725 boots to black screen

2012-02-17 Thread Terry Jones
Public bug reported:

Booting to a black screen, however a flashlight shows a faint login window. I
can login, hear the startup sound, but still a black screen.
Again a flashlight on the screen shows a faint desktop. I am assuming the
backlight on the laptop is not responding. Pressing the function key and
brightness adjustment keys does nothing.

As a work around, adding the boot paramater acip_osi=Linux to Grub on
startup allows me to have a screen, However, the function dim keys make
it brighter while the function brighter keys make the screen dimmer.

Re: [Bug 617190] Re: Lucid kernel 2.6.32-24-generic causes crash on creation of logical volume

2010-09-21 Thread Terry Jones
  Hi Jeremy,

Sorry I have not acted on this earlier but I have been away on holidays.

Do you still want me to do these tests given that I have confirmed the
problem does not exist in the latest update of the Lucid kernel ?

I am happy to do the tests you have asked for if they are still needed,
but will probably not be able to get around to it for a week or so.

Regards

Terry Jones

 Hi Terry,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run
the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
 report.

 apport-collect -p linux 617190

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
 Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This
can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at
the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing'
text. Please let us know your results.

 Thanks in advance.

[Bug 617190] [NEW] Lucid kernel 2.6.32-24-generic causes crash on creation of logical volume

2010-08-12 Thread Terry Jones
Public bug reported:

Following a recent upgrade of Ubuntu server Lucid to 2.6.32-24 my
normal daily backup script crashes the system when it tries to create a
new logical volume to use as a snapshot. The normal logical volume
created message does not appear and the script hangs.

While the system seems to respond to pings and TCP opens, the server
processes ( apache, postfix, samba, webmin) do not respond.

SSH and the serial console accept the login but don't prompt for the
password.

System does not respond to power switch either so the only way to
restart it is to do a hard power off.

Symptoms have been repeated by running the backup script manually from
both console and ssh logins as well.

Syslog output at the time of the backup was as follows:

Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod CRON[2620]: (root) CMD (~tjon/bin/newbackup #Daily
backup script)
Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128950] RPC: Registered udp transport
module.
Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128955] RPC: Registered tcp transport
module.
Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.128958] RPC: Registered tcp NFSv4.1
backchannel transport module.
Aug 13 00:05:01 zaphod kernel: [55215.261954] svc: failed to register lockdv1
RPC service (errno 97).

If I restart the system and manually select 2.6.32-23-generic from the
GRUB boot menu the bug disappears.

[Bug 549738] Re: [Lucid Beta2] Booting with new ubiquity live session audio doesn't work

2010-04-10 Thread Terry Jones

I also have no sound. Testing from two usb drives (one 32 bit, one 64 bit)
The output in sound preference shows dummy.
Sudo killall pulseaudio will give sound each session.

[Bug 508185] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError()

2010-01-16 Thread Terry Jones
Thanks Bruce,

I don't know how long the fix takes to work through the system, but as
of today 1-16-10 at 5:37 update, the autologin feature is still not
working. I still get crash reports the last few days which I have not
been reporting. Should I report the crashes again or wait until the fix
is applied? Thanks for all the developers hard work.

Terry
