[Bug 206169] Re: Jockey does not install anything, help button does nothing

2008-04-09 Thread TheGZeus

Is the release I just got on an update this fix? Because I still get:
WARNING: unbind/rebind for device ssb0:0 on driver
/sys/module/b43/drivers/ssb:b43 failed
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/jockey/handlers.py, line 400, in

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/sys/module/b43/drivers/ssb:b43/unbind'
touch: cannot touch `/var/run/reboot-required': Permission denied
and restarting still leaves me with no wireless.
I don't have a laptop without wireless. She's grounded.
This is a bug critical enough that if it makes it into the release, I'm not
sure what I'll recommend to friends... feisty? Gutsy?
In any case, what should I do?

Correction: manual removal/install of fwcutter works.
Still a bit disconcerting the jockey doesn't remove/give the option to remove
the package.

[Bug 206169] Re: Jockey does not install anything, help button does nothing

2008-04-09 Thread TheGZeus
Much like earlier install problem, the graphical version doesn't even remove
the package.
The command
$ sudo jockey-kde -d kmod:b43
does remove it.
Oddly, the firmware remains in use...

It DOES install with the graphical version, though.

These problems could be exclusive to the KDE version.

[Bug 200389] Re: New version does not support unicode

2008-04-03 Thread TheGZeus
That was it, thanks.
some of my MP3s needed to be tagged with 2.4 apparently, and 1.X doesn't do it
anyway. I think that the last version hid the fact that 1.X wasn't saving the
unicode characters until you opened them again, or my memory is stupid.

Thanks for trying to fix that which wasn't broken ;)

This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents
creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in
the crash.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I can't seem to find any cause.
I DO have alot of programs open, both KDE/Qt and GTK+, but it often crashes
when I'm not really doing anything,

[Bug 206214] Re: zero documentation for any Jockey packages

2008-03-26 Thread TheGZeus
Yeah, the help button does nothing, the UI has no effect, and the
command line (which I had to download the source, read the readme, then
use --help to get anything on) broke mplayer for video and installed
something that does nothing for my wireless.

The downloading the source and finding the readme is the part related to
this.

[Bug 206169] Re: Jockey does not install anything, help button does nothing

2008-03-26 Thread TheGZeus
To be perfectly honest, I'm afraid to use this program.
The video driver it installed killed Mplayer, and I don't even know what trying
to enable b43 was doing since it certainly wasn't enabling my wireless.

I've re-installed twice because of this program(though the second time I
really just had to disable restricted video, but I had no idea how).

Is there a command that would give you the info you want but...not DO
ANYTHING to my computer?

[Bug 206957] Re: jockey-kde -C doesn't require sudo

2008-03-26 Thread TheGZeus
Thanks for insulting my intelligence and not understanding sudo.

Yeah, that was rude, but I don't care.

I would still require the sudo COMMAND even if I didn't need to enter my
password.

I did NEITHER. Using
$ jockey-kde -C
Should throw out an error that I'm not root.

This program is not ready for use by anyone.

If any of the bugs in this make it to RC, I'm probably moving to a different
distro... The wonderful(for the most part -_- ) community isn't worth my
computer working at 70%.
if I roll back to Gutsy, my computer will be noticably slower.
If I roll back to Feisty, I'll lose ALOT of features I like.
If I keep using this my laptop's effectively grounded and I have no GL.

Jockey IS a bug.

2008-03-26 Thread TheGZeus
Luck implies chance, computers only do what you tell them.
It's hard for me to blame anything this does on what it installs and consider
it a separate bug when everything else it does is so buggy. -_-

Here's the blamed log file.

Feel free to think of me as a dick, but I'm not the only one affected by
this.

BTW, this command does require the sudo command even if I'd sudoed
recently, -C does not. So go make that bug valid again.

[Bug 206957] Re: jockey-kde -C doesn't require sudo

2008-03-26 Thread TheGZeus
it calls kdesu. That's friggin weird for a command line.
Is THAT the bug you're talking about? Because that's confusing as hell.

The graphical version does NOTHING. Literally NOTHING but have buttons and
check boxes with no effect.
Making the command line work LIKE a graphical app without being one is WEIRD,
especially when there's no other choice.
So my only recommendation is that if there's not gonna be a window open, don't
open a window...
That or make a window open that works.

My head hurts, and I'm a user. I can only imagine what it must be like
trying to FIX this thing...

[Bug 204637] Re: cannot install/use jockey in kubuntu hardy

2008-03-21 Thread TheGZeus
ok, it took HOURS, but I got it to run.
However, once it ran, I checked the drivers I wanted to enable and...nothing
happened.

[Bug 204637] Re: cannot install/use jockey in kubuntu hardy

2008-03-21 Thread TheGZeus
It runs in the background for hours taking up ~60 of my CPU time.

That's INSANE.
I'd call that 'not ready for use by...anyone.'
I realise the OS is in beta still, but I'd call this pre-alpha at best, if
other people are experiencing this.

1 hour and it's just thrashing my hard drive and making my music skip
and making my whole experience terrible.

I cannot recommend Hardy to my friends. I'm considering going back to
Gutsy because of this. LTS

Lillipuziano, Kubuntu mounts volumes automatically. One click in Dolphin,
D3lphin or (either)Konqi on the disk in the Storage Media area.
Appearing on the desktop without an event (insertion of some media) doesn't
work yet (at least in KDE3, I haven't spent much time with KDE4 yet).

[Bug 197201] Workaround

2008-03-01 Thread TheGZeus
Install language-selector, run:
$ sudo gnome-language-selector
select english as the system language, apply, restart
run System Settings again, select english, apply

I still have several applications in japanese, though I've gone the extra step
of uninstalling japanese language packs(don't want to take the risk...)
I hope a reset later solves that.

[Bug 68792] Re: amule crashes when trying to download kad nodes

2007-12-09 Thread TheGZeus
Thanks for replying!
Knowing that it's being looked into is a great re-assurance.

I cannot update even once(one click crashes), and thus cannot connect.
If there have been no changes since the intro of Gutsy, then it's probably a
very strange little bug that works/breaks on different (base OS) installations
for no reason I can see... I have encountered that on other programs (again, no
idea why) and gotten them to work after re-installing the OS.
The reason I assumed it had been updated and broken is I never had this problem
before my most recent installations of Xubuntu/Kubuntu.

I wish there was less finger-pointing and more problem solving out
there. I wish I could be part of the solution... Well, I'm going to
start studying programming so

[Bug 68792] Re: amule crashes when trying to download kad nodes

2007-12-07 Thread TheGZeus
I really hope I don't come off as rude here, but I get frustrated and tweak
out...
ummWhy is this not fixed/backported/reverted?
It worked on my last installation, and the one before(etc. to half way through
feisty) but...not now.
Why did this package get 'updated' when it just breaks an installation? is this
a sporadic problem, with no current known cause?
Again, the current version out there fixes this problem, but for some reason
there's not even a patch? I'd like to help somehow, but I don't even know where
to start, and I'm not much help when I'm this frustrated. I have 30+gb worth of
unfinished downloads just taking up space.

To sum up, it used to work, now it doesn't, there's a fix, it's not
available through apt, I want to help, I don't know how, and doubt I'd
do that well at it.

Pulling out his own hair,

G.Z.

[Bug 68792] Re: amule crashes when trying to download kad nodes

2007-11-27 Thread TheGZeus
There's a fix out there, but I'd much rather use a supported update than
a CVS build.

[Bug 130267] Re: aMule keeps crashing and won't d/l the serverlist

2007-11-25 Thread TheGZeus
Same here.
Worked under Kubuntu Gutsy from beta through release, on switching to Xubuntu
it started doing this.

[Bug 130267] Re: aMule keeps crashing and won't d/l the serverlist

2007-11-25 Thread TheGZeus
On doing some research, the current CVS version doesn't have this issue.
However, I dislike doing things outside of the package manager (world of
padman is irremovable right now), so I'd recommend updating the
archives.

[Bug 129711] Re: Kopete crashes upon connecting to MSN

2007-10-17 Thread TheGZeus
Some specific instructions would really help me out.
All I have right now is a non-working Kopete and a lack of desire to install
Gaim.
I don't know where these files are located.

Is there a fix? A chmod or something?
