[Bug 1099259] Re: Display not working with Nexus 7 when docked

2013-01-31 Thread Tony Mugan
I have also confirmed that on Ringtail (and all latest updates) that video over
USB on a second universal docking station does not work either.
It looks like Displaylink support is a bit lacking in Ubuntu unfortunately.

The benefit for enterprise is great if this can be made to work since
universal docks are a mainstay of the BYOD trend. To be unable to bring
an ubuntu desktop to work and use the full capabilities of the hotdesk
environment gives bragging rights to the Windows and Mac users.

This Targus docking station shows up as

Bus 004 Device 003: ID 17e9:4306 DisplayLink

I would be delighted to test if there are any ideas on how to get this
working.

[Bug 1099259] [NEW] Display not working with Nexus 7 when docked

2013-01-13 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

I have a Toshiba Universal dock (Dynadock using USB3) with keyboard,
mouse, ethernet and display attached.

When I use a USB OTG cable with the Nexus 7, the keyboard, mouse and
ethernet work perfectly but the screen does not.

Would dearly love to get the tablet working when docked so I can
potentially carry only one device.

I have also tested with Raring on my laptop (the machine that I am submitting
this bug with) and get the same outcome.
So I guess that means it's a kernel issue rather than Nexus 7 specific?

2012-12-15 Thread Tony Mugan
Thanks for the tip.
I've got past it with an OTA cable to plug in an external USB keyboard but
wanted to record it for consideration by the developers.

 Hi,

Turning off the grab in gksu might help. Here is the command to enter into

This might however have an impact on the security of the system.

 Cheers,

Monkey,

Thank you very much for posting this. I can confirm that it does indeed
work.

SO there were two parts to manually rectifying this for me.
The changes to lightdm.conf to allow the login, and the change to the way that
the domain account can be added to the sudoers file.

Cheers.

[Bug 888227] Re: Wireless drops out with rt2800pci on RT3090 card

2012-04-11 Thread Tony Mugan
In a related bug, I have tested mainline kernel 3.4 rc2 and it works for Ubuntu
12.04 with a Sony Vaio laptop with the RT3090 chipset wifi.
I could not get it working with the current kernel in 12.04 which is 3.2
.0-22-generic. It just repeatedly tried to connect to the wifi and asked me
for password but never connected.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/978047

The link for the kernel download is in that other bug link.

[Bug 978047] [NEW] Wireless with RT3090 chipset does not work in Precise Pangolin

2012-04-10 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with an rt3090 wifi adapter built-in.

It does not work in Precise Pangolin Beta.

In older versions of Ubuntu, I was able to use a PPA which repackaged the
manufacturer's drivers.
To get it to work, I also had to blacklist a series of drivers in Ubuntu.

These are no longer being packaged and the source as supplied does not
compile against 3.x kernels.

The driver source is here
http://www.ralinktech.com/en/04_support/license.php?sn=5015

The PPA is here
https://launchpad.net/~markus-tisoft/+archive/rt3090

I would be delighted to help out with getting this supported in Precise
Pangolin.

[Bug 946755] Re: Cannot login to domain with likewise-open under Precise Pangolin Beta

2012-03-24 Thread Tony Mugan
Boleslaw,

I just use likewise-open and register the machine on the domain with the
domain-joining gui that comes with that.
Then I edit sudoers to add a line for Domain^Users and that's about it.

likewise-open creates a local home folder for the user, I believe, on
first login.

Regards,

Tony

[Bug 963798] [NEW] No visible desktop with radeon 3D driver in Precise

2012-03-24 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

I have just updated a Oneiric desktop to Precise.
I can run a desktop if I login with a Unity 2D but not with 3D.
The mouse pointer apears with a black background and Xorg.log shows errors

(EE) RADEON(0): [DRI2] DRI2SwapInterval: bad drawable

The graphics card is a Radeon 5770.

Note, using a different drive, I had installed fresh image and it was
all working fine, but this upgrade to Precise has left the Unity 3D
environment in a non-functioning state for graphics.

I can login at the CLI on a separate terminal when in Unity 3D, the
machine has not locked up.

[Bug 844044] Re: Unity Greeter - Add Network Login option

2012-03-23 Thread Tony Mugan
Actually, I needed a reboot and can now authenticate against AD as
described in this related issue.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/likewise-open/+bug/946755

I cannot however, run sudo with that AD user.

It says that I am not in the sudoers file even though I have already added the
Domain^Users.
This worked previously in early Alphas of 12.04 and all previous versions of
Ubuntu.

[Bug 946755] Re: Cannot login to domain with likewise-open under Precise Pangolin Beta

2012-03-22 Thread Tony Mugan
Ok, some progress.

I edited the conf file

sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Then added the last line below which will allow a username and password
combination to be explicitly supplied (reboot after making the change).

[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=unity-greeter
user-session=ubuntu
autologin-user=
greeter-show-manual-login=true

However, I still cannot login as an Active Directory user (i.e. Windows
login) even though I put in the correct username and password.

I added the line to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

But I cannot authenticate against Active directory using likewise-open.

[Bug 946755] Re: Cannot login to domain with likewise-open under Precise Pangolin Beta

2012-03-22 Thread Tony Mugan
Ignore, that.
I needed a reboot.

Now I can choose Login at the login screen and it allows me to enter the
Active directory username and password.
So I am now logging in again as my Windows domain username.

The only bit that does not seem to be working now is that my user is not being
recognised as being part of the sudoers file even though I have added the
Domain Users group to the sudoers file.
This worked in previous versions of Ubuntu and early alpha versions of 12.04.

[Bug 946755] [NEW] Cannot login to domain with likewise-open under Precise Pangolin Beta

2012-03-04 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Oneiric to Precise and have been happily using likewise-
open to login to my Windows domain at work.

Now the login is no longer available to me.

I can see my local accounts (not the domain account) and the login

I have tried reinstalling likewise-open and rejoining the domain.

[Bug 936093] [NEW] Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop is not executable

2012-02-19 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

The desktop shortcut is not executable in Precise Pangolin.

While it is possible to successfully run ecryptfs-mount-private to mount
the Private folder, the desktop shortcut gives an error indicating that
this is an Untrusted application launcher.

See the permissions marked below.

Same issue here.

Very confusing to the submitter as to what has happened.
I suspected it was a temporary dummy-spit from Launchpad and was considering
resubmitting as a natural reaction.

I'd like to be able to track the duplicate obviously in case I can
provide some useful test info when the Fix is committed.

plugin for example, but no Coherence.

[Bug 537293] Re: Can't login to Bankwest net banking with firefox

2012-02-03 Thread Tony Mugan
I can confirm that I no longer have the issue and can login now to
bankwest with Firefox.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2 (Precise Pangolin) with Firefox version
11.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu1

Not sure when this arrived but it's working now.

This pre-release of Ubuntu is very stable for me so I'm happy.

[Bug 827382] Re: Coherence uPNP plugin missing in totem in Oneiric

2012-02-03 Thread Tony Mugan
The package details in Synaptic still declare that it is part of it though?
If it is not to be fixed then perhaps the package should be rectified to
indicate that?

-

Totem is a simple yet featureful media player for GNOME which can read
a large number of file formats.

This package contains an extra set plugins for Totem, which allow to:

   * Annotate the screen with the Gromit tool
   * Have a DLNA/UPnP client for Totem powered by Coherence
   * Stream BBC programs

Additional plugins can be written in C, Python or Vala.

[Bug 831604] Re: likewise-open users don’t get ecryptfs home directory

2011-12-13 Thread Tony Mugan
Ok, I managed to get this working by setting it up on a machine at home first.
I login to that home machine with a local account.

Then I sync the .Private folder through UbuntuOne to my work machine.

The final bit is to use the same mount-phrase across the two machines but with
different logins.
To achieve this I needed to unwrap the mount-passphrase at home, copy it to
work and rewrap it there with my work login passphrase (which is using likewise
to authenticate against Active Directory).

Works fine now.

The commands you are looking for are

Home machine - find out the mountphrase by unwrapping
ecryptfs-unwrap-passphrase ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase

Wrap that mountphrase with your AD password on the work PC
ecryptfs-wrap-passphrase ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase

Good luck

[Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors

2011-10-30 Thread Tony Mugan
In a fresh install of Oneiric, I had a dual screen setup with 3D capability
adequate for compiz effects.
Then I tried fglrx but had issues with the dual monitor setup and setting
resolutions with amdcccle so I uninstalled fglrx.

However, it seems that there are some after effects of having had fglrx
installed which mean some packages need to be reinstalled.

These steps got me back to a clean dual monitor setup with the free
radeon driver for both a radeon 5870 and a 5770.

[Bug 747246] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV in QWidget::ungrabGesture()

2011-10-30 Thread Tony Mugan
I've been able to workaround this problem by cleanly uninstalling fglrx
and reinstalling some components as detailed here.

http://gurrier.wordpress.com/2011/10/30/amd-video-problems-in-
ubuntu-11-10-oneiric-ocelot/

Now I have the free radeon driver running a dual monitor configuration
complete with 3D effects from Compiz.

Given that the proprietary AMD drivers would not work for either my
Radeon 5770 or 5870, this will do me fine.

[Bug 831604] Re: likewise-open users don’t get ecryptfs home directory

2011-10-19 Thread Tony Mugan
I am trying to add an encrypted folder to my Ubuntu profile.
What I want to do is have a folder called ~/Private which is actually a
decrypted view of the folder ~/.Private

This works fine unless I try it in a likewise user profile which is
connected to our work Windows domain.

Entering ecryptfs-setup-private asks me for my login passphrase but
always rejects it.

As mentioned, I have local profile on this machine for which the whole home
folder is encrypted and decrypts on login.
I just cannot get the same to happen for the likewise profile on Ubuntu Oneiric
Ocelot v11.10.

Details that I am following are here.
http://bodhizazen.net/Tutorials/Ecryptfs

Once I get it sorted, I will sync the .Private folder to my dropbox
account and have a layer of security for replicating my files to the
cloud.

[Bug 878649] [NEW] Cannot setup encrypted folder in a user profile using likewise-open on Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-19 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

If I try to setup an encrypted folder by following the setup guide
below[1], I get asked for my login passphrase which it then does not
accept even though it is correct.

[1] http://bodhizazen.net/Tutorials/Ecryptfs

This may be because I am using a user profile which is authenticated
through likewise-open. On the same machine a local user profile was
setup with an encrypted home folder on startup. That part is working
fine.

[Bug 875038] [NEW] Cannot set dual display with radeon driver on Oneiric

2011-10-15 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

Unity fails to load correctly even though the Unity plugin is checked in compiz
(verified with ccsm).
I only see the Nautlus menus at the top of screen and the Unity launchbar is

control-center display but it only shows a single Unknown monitor
which I cannot set as a dual display.

As a related aside, I also cannot set the dual display with fglrx and

[Bug 827382] Re: Coherence uPNP plugin missing in totem in Oneiric

2011-10-15 Thread Tony Mugan
Confirmed again with the full release of Oneiric.
No sign of Coherence in the plugins for totem even though totem-plugins-extra
is installed and the package details (displayed in synaptic) indicate that
coherence is one of the component plugins.

The other listed totem-plugins-extra plugins, Gromit and BBC player, do
however show up in the list of plugins in totem.

[Bug 864505] [NEW] [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2011-10-02 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

When I try to setup the dual screen for a Radeon 5870 in Gnome, I cannot get it
to change from a mirrored setup using

To check if it was hardware related, I have just swapped out the video

The same dialog pops up when running Unity-2D and trying to set the

[Bug 864505] Re: [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2011-10-02 Thread Tony Mugan
Ok, I have a dual boot on this machine.
Both partitions have Oneiric running with fglrx driver now installed.

I have not installed Ubuntu updates on the second partition and the environment
is working better.
I only just updated the linux kernel to 3.0.0-12, confirmed no change, then
fglrx to 2:8.881-0ubuntu3, again confirmed no change.
Finally upgraded compiz to 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu1.

Compiz crashes when I try to set the dual monitors up in amdcccle but
the desktop does appear altered after it recovers from that crash.

[Bug 864505] Re: [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2011-10-02 Thread Tony Mugan
When I reboot, each time the desktop wallpaper for the smaller monitor
(1680x1050) appears fine.
The larger monitor is running 1920x1080 but the desktop wallpaper appears to be
the same as the 1680x1050 monitor and then repeats (as if tiled).

If I run amdcccle, I can fix them to run at their preferred resolutions
and the desktop is redrawn correctly but will always revert when I
restart.

[Bug 859836] [NEW] Monitors are not identified in Oneiric with radeon driver

2011-09-26 Thread Tony Mugan
Public bug reported:

If I run the Monitors control center app, it does not detect my dual monitors
and lists just a single unknown monitor.
With the proprietary fglrx driver, both the Benq and Samsung monitors are
detected.
Using Unity in Oneiric with all the latest updates applied.
