[Bug 998630] Re: plasma netbook shell crashes on kubuntu 12.04 and 12.10
hey guys I got bold this morning and I wanted to try remove kde all together and reinstall it via the meta package. I purged kubuntu-desktop then i did it again doing kubuntu-* since it didnt get all of the desktop. I rebooted and for some reason i have kde still installed but the normal desktop version and not the netbook version. all menus bar at the bottom works flawlessly. it seems like those crashes are netbook specific. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998630 Title: plasma netbook shell crashes on kubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plasma-widget-menubar/+bug/998630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

ok just restarted and reinstalled kubuntu-desktop meta package after purging and set it to desktop and i have the upper menu bar as well as the one on the bottom. if i set it to netbook only it does not show up correctly. which now just crashed and sadly i wasnt able to get a back trace :( oddly now setting netbook in system settings i have 2 menu bars one at the top one at the bottom :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to plasma-widget-menubar in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998630 Title: plasma netbook shell crashes on kubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plasma-widget-menubar/+bug/998630/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

On 21/05/2011 12:48, mr.goose wrote: @eagles051387 I'm sorry but I beg to differ. I think we CAN pin the blame fairly and squarely on nVidia. This is a copy of the latest response I have received from nVidia's customer care, following yet another a fairly strongly worded email from me with regard to nVidia's total lack of activity in this regard:- Hello, I escalated this problem to the Linux Engineering Manager. An Engineer has been assigned to work on this at high priority. We are targeting the fix for the upcoming 275.xx driver which is currently planned to ship in early June 2011. Added to which, it is NOT just Konsole that is affected. Granted it is the app most likely to crash the entire system. But resizing gnome-terminal will also crash the system - though I accept you need to try harder in order to do so. Then there is the matter of the weird desktop artefacts. Sure, there are workarounds for the crashing - though I've yet to find a workaround for the artefacts. Fact is that nVidia claims to support Linux. Many users, including myself, bought nVidia products on the basis of nVidia's advertised claim. Remember, nVidia's software products are also closed source, which means its users are lumbered with whatever it provides. Added to which, nVidia is NOT just a handful of well-meaning open-source type guys, working for free in their bedrooms. nVidia is a massive, profit- making, NASDAQ 100 corporation, with more than 6000 employees and an estimated enterprise value of $9.6 billion. In other words, nVidia has PLENTY of resources at its disposal. Therefore, the onus is clearly on nVidia to honour its advertised claims and fix the problem. It is not for its users to work around it. Best wishes, G Firstly Im glad you contacted them and they escalated this issue, but in digging through the nvidia site i did find some developer resources that allows one to develop stuff for their cards such as drivers etc. I agree though it depends on the application that might trigger this, but in all honesty i find it funny how only certain apps are triggering a full system lock up. for me it would be maximizing kvirc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760632 Title: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 577335] [NEW] ubiquity fails to install lucid 64bit from live usb unless using debug mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity im not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but i might have stumbled on somethign very serious. ubiquity fails to install unless im using debug mode. without debug mode i manage to get my drive formatted after turning of acpi during boot up. after partitioning it gives me lots of error messages regarding shared objects and what is being installed is a different version on the cd, in my case live usb. tried a 2nd usb and the same issue. some of the objects after hitting retry get installed but in the end the entire install fails. the error says its errno5 input/output. this occured using 2 different usb pen drives. running ubiquity -d from the command line all i got one shared object error which i was able to get installed. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubiquity fails to install lucid 64bit from live usb unless using debug mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: due to issues with the xserver i use the karmic alpha 5 alternate cd to install it. im duel booting on a macbook pro using boot camp. when it comes to installing grub2 if i dont specify the efi partition it fails to install. that in turn makes boot cam unable to see the partition when choosing which partition to boot on. the installation fails to install by throwing an error message complaining about the location that its trying to install on. ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- karmic alpha 5 duel boot on macbook pro with boot camp only alows me to install grub on the efi partition. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428887 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

its called sudo and it can be found in the ubuntu-restricted-extras. in command line type sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras sudo being the password that you use to login my opinion about mixxx is it needs heavy development. i am a kubuntu user and i never got sound to work wiht it i never could, also it would constantly freeze and crash on me. Problem is that I have to login as root to just install java which I never get a password to login as root. If I can't some genius needs to install java and flash player in the next release and a SD card bug fix. Java and flash needs to be bundled with the next release of remix a fix of the SD card reader (bug 2). One more thing, I had to reinstall remix 3 times. 1. For failure of Java which blocked out my package manager. 2 nd attempt to reinstall was an app called Mixx a DJ program that screwed up my sound card.3rd attempt I had to reinstall cause of mixx disabling my sound card. Now remix is having trouble recognizing my internal SD card reader.
