[Bug 767079] Re: raising the un-pinned windows from the launcher shows the app icon twice
I've been able to reproduce this bug consistently with Empathy and Skype (latest Oneiric). Just open one of them normally, then click the red X to hide it to the indicator or tray. When you open them again via the indicator or tray, this bug occurs. I've attached my xsession errors from a session where I reproduced this with empathy. [Bug 389467] Re: sudo dumpcap will not write output files to ~/
Did some reading, it looks like this isn't actually a bug, but more of a 'feature'. Dumpcap needs root to be able to access the raw network interface, but the majority of the processing etc. that it does can be done without root. When it runs, it opens the interface using its root powers, then explicitly tells the kernel to drop all other root powers it owns, in order to prevent security problems. One of the effects of this is that root user can only write in locations it actually owns (ie not regular home directories - those are owned by the respective users). So really, this is by-design from the authors upstream. If you want it changed, I suggest you take it up with the wireshark developers, although I think their reasoning is fairly sound: wireshark and dumpcap have historically had a lot of security vulnerabilities, and dropping privileges is good practice when they're not actually needed. An easy way to work around this is to write the file to /tmp, then cp it where you want it as normal user. [Bug 795496] [NEW] [Inspiron 530, Realtek ALC888, Green Line Out, Rear] Keyboard volume know displays min or max only
Public bug reported: Ubuntu still tracks the correct volume, which I can adjust normally via the indicator applet. However, when I adjust the volume via my keyboards volume knob, the indicator is wrong. The actual volume is still adjusted correctly, however the notification (not the indicator) immediately shows max volume (if I increased it) or muted (if I decreased it). If I use my keyboard mute key to mute/unmute, the correct volume is displayed in the notification, however using the knob again immediately causes the same problem. I did see this consistently on my natty install, however I got to natty from lucid by way of maverick, so I don't know where my graphics stack was at that point (didn't do anything fancy with it though, so presumably it went to Gallium and I didn't notice). [Bug 752157] Re: [RS880] graphical corruption in launcher (Solid grey rectangles over icon text and window borders)
Just upgraded to Oneiric (I know, I'm crazy), and this bug has disappeared. A little poking around indicates that the open-source ati stack in Oneiric has switched to gallium by default instead of mesa, which is probably why I'm not seeing this anymore. I don't know if that switch is one we're keeping (or if it just got in by accident during debian import), but if someone can confirm it then we can at least close the oneiric task for this bug. Launchpad provides a convenient method of searching. [Bug 685662] Re: Libpcap utilities takes a huge time to load
I can't reproduce this on any of the machines I have. Given the log messages, it's probably a kernel driver problem, not a libpcap problem. If you can identify which USB device is causing the problem, it would probably be a good idea to see if it works with other programs (try putting a thumb drive in and see if it works normally). In the mean time, I've opened a new task in 'linux' (the kernel) and marked the original libpcap task as invalid. Hopefully the kernel team can shed some more light. ** Changed in: libpcap (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685662 Title: Libpcap utilities takes a huge time to load -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 666033] Re: Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect
Not a bug in nautilus. The problem exists somewhere else. Thanks to a comment upstream, I tracked the problem down to the file /proc/kcore. This file alone is reported as 128TB, even by the 'ls' command. According to: http://www.unixguide.net/linux/faq/04.16.shtml The size of this file should be equal to the amount of memory in your system. Does that make this a kernel bug? -- Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/666033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 666033] Re: Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect
Not even a kernel bug. According to: http://www.novell.com/support/viewContent.do?externalId=7004153 /proc/kcore is 128TB on all 64-bit systems, because that is the maximum amount of memory that the kernel can address. So the fix here is really to simply ignore this file when calculating disk usage in nautilus. More correctly, it should ignore all of /proc, since these files don't actually take up any disk space: they are virtual. -- Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/666033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 610094] Re: libpcap0.8 - packet names a bit outdated
Thank you for taking time to report this issue. It is technically a different issue from bug #311634, but they both stem from the same root cause. There were some naming mistakes made in the past, and there are so many packages that depend on libpcap that updating all of them would be an enormous undertaking. While it should be changed at some point, Ubuntu doesn't have the manpower to maintain such a huge delta from Debian (the source of our libpcap package) over such a non-critical problem. If you want it changed, I suggest you talk to the Debian maintainer. Once it is fixed there, Ubuntu will inherit it automatically. The debian package page for libpcap is at http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libpcap0.8 ** Changed in: libpcap (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- libpcap0.8 - packet names a bit outdated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 536826] Re: Network Manager applet shows wrong wired interface name
I am also seeing this bug, however I am specifically able to turn it on and off, so I may be able to shed a little more light on the situation. I have a built-in Intel NIC, and two PCI-pluggable Realtek NICs. When I installed lucid, my udev rules were: # PCI device 0x10ec:0x8169 (r8169) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:0a:cd:17:f6:2b, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth0 # PCI device 0x10ec:0x8169 (r8169) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:0a:cd:17:f6:3e, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth1 # PCI device 0x8086:0x10c0 (e1000e) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:21:9b:05:a3:8f, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth2 Udev assigns the eth* names in order by MAC address (I think). At this point, network-manager works fine. After installation, I renamed and reordered the interfaces so that they are indexed in the order the ports actually physically are on the PC (I'm a stickler for order that way :D). My udev rules are now: # PCI device 0x8086:0x10c0 (e1000e) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:21:9b:05:a3:8f, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth0 # PCI device 0x10ec:0x8169 (r8169) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:0a:cd:17:f6:3e, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth1 # PCI device 0x10ec:0x8169 (r8169) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:0a:cd:17:f6:2b, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth2 Network-manager now picks up eth0 as a Realtek card, and lists eth2 without any hardware information. Changing the file back to its original state, however, fixes the problem: I just end up with a naming order I don't particularly like. My tentative conclusion is that when the order and names of the devices in the udev rules file are not what udev expects, then it gets confused. TJ, could you try reordering and renaming your net rules and see if that helps or changes the situation? -- Network Manager applet shows wrong wired interface name https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/536826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 584714] Re: Radeon 2600XT poor performance after suspend-to-ram
I suspend/resume frequently, and this has only happened a few more times since I reported the bug, but I've noticed something very interesting. Normally upon resume, my monitor displays garbage in the form of ~15 horizontal light and dark stripes of static. This happens for about a second, presumably while the graphics card reinitializes, then my screensaver is displayed. In every single instance so far of this bug, the screensaver has appeared immediately, with no static first. Anecdotally I would say that in these cases the resume is actually several seconds faster than normal. I can try and use a digital camera to capture an image of the garbage screen if you think that would be useful. -- Radeon 2600XT poor performance after suspend-to-ram https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584714 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 584714] [NEW] Radeon 2600XT poor performance after suspend-to-ram
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Up-to-date 10.04. Fresh Install. ATI Radeon 2600XT. Open-source driver. Kernel modesetting enabled (assumed from the 1440x900 plymouth resolution) This is an r600 card, so lucid is the first release with open-source 3D. While the performance isn't great at the best of times, it is quite usable even under Extra Effects. However, occasionally after suspend-to-ram/resume, performance becomes terrible (although still barely usable - typing this bug in the bad state). Moving windows causes tearing, even typing occasionally locks up for a few seconds. Opening menus is painful. Potentially useful things I have noticed: - Enabling/Disabling Special Effects has no effect on the problem. - GLXGears prints a normal fps value when in the bad state, and it's rendering is fine as well. - Each 'action' only hiccups once: start typing and it will lock for a few seconds, catch up, and be fine. However, if your typing cursor leaves that text field and reenters it, the hiccup will happen again. - During each hiccup, X uses 80+ percent of CPU. - I've found no correlation between the occurrence of this problem and: - - applications open during the suspend - - time between suspend and resume - - peripheral devices plugged in during suspend/resume - I have never noticed this issue on a fresh boot. Poked around a bit with libimobiledevice. Discovered the following: With absolutely no changes to the base Lucid install, installing iFuse from the repos allows access to my iPod via filesystem. Rhythmbox doesn't pick it up properly still, but the fact that iFuse (which uses libimobiledevice) works out-of-the-box means the problem is not with the current kernel, and is not with the current libimobiledevice. I'm leaning back towards this being a rhythmbox problem, which makes me wonder why the rhythmbox people told me it was a lower-level problem in the first place (see bug #573161). -- iPod Touch not recognized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Given that the device is showing up in the udev logs, I imagine that this isn't a problem with the kernel, but rather somewhere higher up the stack. I will test with upstream kernel if you still think it is necessary for some reason. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- iPod Touch not recognized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site
Given that this has been confirmed on many different browsers on both 32 and 64 bit systems, I think it's pretty clear that this is an issue with flash, and thus not something we can really hope to fix ourselves. [Bug 414744] Re: libpcap issue: tcpdump consumes 100% cpu power after interface shutdown
The tabs/spaces thing was an accident, you can ignore them. If you'll look under the bug status, you'll see Nominated for Lucid. That basically means that this will be fixed in a lucid update after it has gotten some testing (probably in a few weeks). The full upstream version will be in Maverick, but most of the bugfixes it contains are in the process of being applied to the version in Lucid. The full new version is not in Lucid because it contains a few untested new features that weren't suitable for an LTS. -- libpcap issue: tcpdump consumes 100% cpu power after interface shutdown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 573161] [NEW] iPod Touch not recognized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Fresh, up-to-date lucid install. I have an iPod Touch 8GB (latest gen, latest firmware). When I plug it in, it beeps and goes to its 'connected' screen, but nothing happens on Ubuntu's end. It doesn't show up on the desktop or under Places or under rhythmbox. It does show up as an Apple device under lsusb. I reported this against rhythmbox because when I select Scan Removable Media in its menu the iPod beeps and reconnects again (still nothing on Ubuntu's end) but it may be a problem with udev or some other library. [Bug 561631] Re: Lucid Sync-Request FFE libpcap version 1.1.1
Apologies, my testing was via building the debian package from the debian source files. I will be more specific in future. I will test with latest tcpdump (also out-of-date, however latest upstream is a feature release, so probably not suitable for Lucid) and report it upstream if necessary. -- Lucid Sync-Request FFE libpcap version 1.1.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 561631] [NEW] Lucid Sync-Request FFE libpcap version 1.1.1
Public bug reported: There is a new upstream version of the libpcap packet capture library available. It is primarily a bug-fix release, and does not change the ABI. It fixes at least the following known bugs: #414744 #476734 #523340 #523349 I have built from source, and tested it with the current versions of wireshark and tcpdump. It has one minor issue that I have found (when tcpdump is run with no interface specified, it crashes instead of printing an error message and closing gracefully). However, given that this does not in any way affect the actual functionality, I would still like to see this in Lucid. Everything else works beautifully. ** Affects: libpcap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lucid Sync-Request FFE libpcap version 1.1.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
