[Bug 1967329] [NEW] Full screen in Firefox and Ubuntu panel options can't be displayed

2022-03-31 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 22.04 and all programs just normally displayed e.g. Firefox in
normal view. I can hover to the clock widget or top-right corner
network-sound-battery widget and panel widget color gets changed from
black to gray color. When clicked on widget pop-up menu appears as
expected and any option can be selected.

Now when in Firefox playing some video e.g. youtube.com in full screen
then when pressing Super key panel is displayed. Moving mouse over to
clock or top-right network widget and clock or network panel widget
color changes from black to gray as in previous example. But when
clicking on clock or network widget and nothing happens. Maybe pop-up is
opened bellow Firefox's full screen window, but this is not what I
expect. Obviously I would like to have panel widget pop-up menu
displayed on top of anything else. For example when in Firefox playing
some video in full-screen and I decide to lower the voice in Ubuntu, now
I am force to quit Firefox video full screen and lower the Ubuntu panel
located voice. I somehow expect this to be simpler, just to never quit
full screen and allow me to lower the voice by pressing Super key and
then from top-right voice widget allow me to lower the voice.

I don't know if this can be classified as bug, but to me it is for sure
an usability bug.

[Bug 1958665] [NEW] Some apps like Pinta strangly grouped

2022-01-21 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

I use deb, snap and flatpak packages, that is why I have installed
"Software" package to have them all on the same app.

1. Open Software and at the title bar click on Explore button.
2. Left of title bar click on search icon.
3. Type in: pinta
4. Pinta app is displayed. Click on Pinta to go into details (attachment
1_search_window.png).
5. PROBLEM 1: Now first problem appears. At the top-right there is displayed
"Ubuntu". As I understand this info is pointing that Pinta program is in my
case installed from Ubuntu/deb, which is wrong. Pinta at my case is installed
as snap package (attachment 2_default_windows.png).
6. In top-right click on Source selection button.
7. Excellent all three packages types are displayed: flatpak, snap and
Ubuntu/deb.
8. From Source selection select flatpak and flatpak package is displayed.
9. PROBLEM 2: Click on Source selection and there are now only two options
displayed: flatpak and Ubuntu/deb (attachment 3_flatpack_selected.png).
10. From left-site of title bar click on back button. Pinta is listed. Click on
Pinta.
11. Click on Source button from top-right, we now have three options to select.
Select Ubuntu/deb and Ubunt/deb package is displayed, which is fine.
12. PROBLEM 3: Click on Source button again and only flatpak and Ubuntu/deb
packages are listed.
13. From left-site of title bar click on back button. Pinta is listed. Click on
Pinta.
14. Click on Source button from top-right, we now have three options to select.
Select snap package.
15. Snap package is displayed. PROBLEM 4: Now magically Source button from
top-right has completely disappeared (attachment 5_snap_selected.png)

[Bug 1786822] Re: Pinta constantly crashes in Ubuntu fresh install [double free or corruption (out)]

2021-10-24 Thread grofaty
SUGGESTION TO GET OUT OF RABBIT HOLE OF CONSTANT PINTA CRASHES

Anyone to get into this crashing problems I strongly suggest to do the
following:
1. Check Pinta version. Open Terminal and type in:
pinta --version

2. If version 1.6 is displayed, you are using 6 years old Pinta version. Pinta
1.7 was released more then a year ago, but sadly 6 years old Pinta version is
still packaged in all of the recent Ubuntu releases (20.10, 21.04 and 21.10). I
suggest to remove Pinta deb package completely:
sudo apt purge pinta
If using some other Linux distribution, check Linux distribution command to
remove installed package.

3. Install Pinta 1.7 from snap package:
sudo snap install pinta

Why I suggest to install Pinta 1.7 from snap?
a) Snap packages bound Pinta program all of the dependencies into single
package completely independent from Ubuntu version and completely independent
from any software installed on Ubuntu distribution like Mono versions etc that
is the most likely candidate for crashes. If you are using some other Linux
distribution, then you need to install snapd package before step 3 above is
possible. See details (there is one single command):
https://snapcraft.io/docs/installing-snapd
b) I am using Pinta 1.7 snap package for more then a year and very little to
none serious problems.
c) Pinta 1.7 snap package is regularly updated by snap maintainer, so any new
fixes in stable branch get released you get updates and so massively reducing
potential problems.

If you prefer Flatpack instead of Snap, there is also flatpack version
of Pinta. See instruction how to install flatpack:
https://flatpak.org/setup/ and instructions at the bottom of
https://www.flathub.org/apps/details/com.github.PintaProject.Pinta how
to install Pinta.

[Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2021-03-12 Thread grofaty
Daniel, on Feb 2 I have changed to "Ubuntu on Wayland" at login as you
suggested and up till now I have had no issues with freezing.

But yesterday after few months I needed to record my screen and found
out that SimpleScreenRecorder program does not capture video if wayland
is used, so I switched back to X session selecting "Ubuntu" session at
login recorded screen. Today I have just forgotten to changed back to
wayland. And the result? Today using X session and Ubuntu freezed and
the only way to get it back was hard reset. So your theory of my problem
being related to "X session" on my laptop may have some true in it.

I just wanted to inform you about this. I am switching back to wayland
now.

[Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2021-02-05 Thread grofaty
Today happened again. I was working with remote desktop Remmina to
access my work-computer using Windows and suddenly mouse icon
disappeared and keyboard stopped responding.

This time background musing running on my Ubuntu host did not stop
playing, it looks like laptop did not completely freeze.

I was also able to recover (without hard reset):
1. Ctrl+Alt+F3 and get into console, logged in.
2. Search for remmina process: ps aux | grep remmina
3. Kill the remmina process: kill -9
4. Ctrl+Alt+F4 and I was back and desktop was responding normally. I could
start Remmina and now working without a problem.

I am attaching files requested in #22 post.

I have now disabled the HideTopBar extension, but it is going to be
difficult to find out if this is the cause of the problem, because
freezes happens sometimes one's per month. I don't know if I can live
without it such a long time. :-)

I have reported problem upstream to HideTopBar extension developer:
https://github.com/mlutfy/hidetopbar/issues/266 hope to get some
feedback soon.

Daniel, thank you for looking into my problem. I really appreciate it.

[Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2021-01-04 Thread grofaty
It may really be hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca Gnome Shell extension. Now
that you mention it again I opened up Extension application and try
playing with the extension and when pressing the new shortcut key (that
was not set until now), whole screen froze and I was requested to hard
reset the laptop (red rectangle on print-screen). I rebooted the laptop
and I am playing again with extension keyboard shortcuts, but now
everything works fine. I am playing it for a while setting all kind of
setting and works fine. I still don't have reproducible steps, something
just triggers the freeze, but I can't figure it out what that is.

I have collected files like requested in #22 and I am attaching them.
Maybe from the logs you can see if there is the same pattern. If yes,
then this extension may cause freezes.

[Bug 1909736] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 crashed with ext4 error after waking laptop from sleep

2020-12-31 Thread grofaty
This problem has never appeared before and I am using Ubuntu 20.04 for
months on this laptop. I don't know how to reproduce this problem. I try
to close laptop lid and opened it for several time and everything works
like it has thousand times in last few months.

I changed package name to Linux. I have also executed:
apport-collect 1909736
from terminal

** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

I wake-up my laptop from sleep (opened laptop lid) and I noticed my WiFi

I tried to turn on Bluetooth but nothing happened. Then suddenly black
screen appeared with some ext4 messages all over the screen. Then I have
hard reset laptop and now it booted normally and works normally.

Now I have executed bellow commands that I have found to collect after

[Bug 1909736] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 crashed with ext4 error after waking laptop from sleep

2020-12-31 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

I wake-up my laptop from sleep (opened laptop lid) and I noticed my WiFi
connection was not working and also Bluetooth mouse was not working (in
settings it looked Bluetooth was of).

I tried to turn on Bluetooth but nothing happened. Then suddenly black
screen appeared with some ext4 messages all over the screen. Then I have
hard reset laptop and now it booted normally and works normally.

Now I have executed bellow commands that I have found to collect after
similar "crash" appears:

journalctl -b-1 > freshprevboot.txt
lspci -kv > lspci.txt

** Affects: ubuntu

2020-12-23 Thread grofaty
Few minutes ago this Remmina freeze has happened again. Remmina not
responding, no keyboard was responding. I was able to move mouse, but
mouse clicks have had no effect. Also musing was still playing on my
laptop (outside of Remmina).

2020-11-24 Thread grofaty
Interesting talking about devil... It happened right now. Remmina
suddenly froze. This time I also lost mouse (no mouse pointer) and after
few seconds also music stopped playing on my PC, this indicates this
time whole system froze.

For #22 for step 2 I am attaching files.

@Daniel, I installed deb package for "performance" fix, you have written in #22.
But since 18th November freeze did not appear anymore. If it does I will try to
collect info from #22.

@Vinod, did you try to install deb package from bug 1849142 from #14.
Download deb file and execute from termina: sudo dpkg -i

If freeze reappears can you please collect info requested in #22 of this
thread.

out of the blue when using remmina for few days. I will try to collect

[Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2020-11-18 Thread grofaty
I executed: apport-collect 1903986

Step 1: Directory /var/crash is empty.

Step 2: I get
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/3b81bfacd6a0c6d0f5d20395f7f51923611af976e65590519b1a3d70e9a0f5ef1454621e36d78b8c546167c5a8c9e9a3b2e7828938bb23cd0f8b737a46a7c591
but this may be some other problem, because yesterday I have had no
issue with gnome-shell crash.

Step 3: I don't really know what to do here...

This should probably be done right after crash appears, isn't it?

Sebastien, now I have investigated "-b" switch little bit more and I see
"-b 1" is probably not correct switch you have requested, but correct
should with "minus 1", so "-b -1".

Now I did:
journalctl -b 0 > journalctl_0.txt
journalctl -b -1 > journalctl_minus_1.txt

2020-11-16 Thread grofaty
Today computer freeze happened again.
1. I have had no choose but to hard press power-off button.
2. I have exeucted "journalctl -b 0" > journalctl_0.txt
3. I have executed "journalctl -b 161 > journalctl161.txt
4. I tried "journalctl -b 1 >journalctl_1.txt" like you suggested, but
currently I see data in it from "May 1st".

See attachments.

Command "journalctl -b 0" looks like there are data from last start-up,
but "journalctl -b 1" in my case returns data from "April 2020", that is
why I have searched for the biggest number to get that date data. I am
attaching "journalctl -b 1" output.

[Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2020-11-13 Thread grofaty
Today happened again.

I executed "journalctl -b X" where X is the number I was searching today's date.
Executing "journalctl -b 167" I have got:
Data from the specified boot (+167) is not available: No such boot ID in journal

Then I executed:
"journalctl -b 166" > journalctl_166.txt
"journalctl -b 165" > journalctl_165.txt
"journalctl -b 164" > journalctl_164.txt

a) Today I have force power-off button on laptop because Remmina froze.
b) Another reboot I did because I have lost WiFi connection (this was normal
restart).
Sorry I dont' remember the order of a) and b), hope you can see it from journal.

On Ubuntu 20.04 using Remmina accessing remote Windows session to my

Work-around: hard press power button to power off laptop and power on

[Bug 1903710] [NEW] ubuntu freezes when using remmina

2020-11-10 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04 I have been using Remmina for whole day (actually
several days without issue), but suddenly Remmina froze and I was in
full screen mode. Mouse pointer was moving OK, but no click was
accepted. Also musing playing in the background on Ubuntu was playing
normally, so Ubuntu hasn't froze up, probably just Remmina.

[Bug 1902051] [NEW] Remmina frozen and whole Ubuntu not responsive

2020-10-29 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

I am working with Remmina for years, but today when I was on Remote
Desktop using Windows suddenly Remmina has frozen - mouse pointer
disappeared and no keyboard response.

In Remmina I have set (CTRL+R) to send all keyboard keystrokes to
Remmina.

I have had music listening in the background, so Ubuntu has not frozen.

The only way I could solved the problem was to hard press laptop power
button to force poweroff machine.

Remmina is very important program to me, now when I am working from
home. Hope there is something in log files that can be traced and fixed.

[Bug 1898904] Re: Calibre crashes at startup with AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'cancel'

2020-10-12 Thread grofaty
Evans, great thanks for info how to fix, it works fine.

I have written bash file for the users that are not so technical.

Instructions:
1. Download file patch.sh from my post.
2. Open terminal, default keyboard shortcut is: CTRL+ALT+T
3. Set execution permissions: chown 700 patch.sh
4. Execute commands: ./patch.sh
5. Then you can delete patch.sh file: rm patch.sh

Hope this helps for others too.

P.S. For non-technical users, package maintainer that has packaged
original Calibre program in Ubuntu 20.04, please update the package and
push it to official Ubuntu repository.

[Bug 1896519] Re: kworker consumes 80% of CPU

2020-09-23 Thread grofaty
The same day after I have reported this problem, kworker stopped consuming CPU.
I am pretty sure it was kworker/5 a problem.

Now I have executed "top" command, typed L and search string kworker and
all of the kworker processes are 0 CPU consumption (see attachment).

I think this problem "vanished" by itself. If problem reappears, should
I post output of problems here or should I open new bug report?

[Bug 1896519] [NEW] kworker consumes 80% of CPU

2020-09-21 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

Like yesterday I have noticed my CPU on Leonovo Thinkpad T590 laptop has
starting to be consumed by kworker for 80% of 2-CPU 4-core processor.

I also see fan works like crazy and "ejects" hot air non stop. This has
never happened in my 6 months of having this new laptop.

[Bug 1766060] [NEW] Crash with "segmentation fault" executing strace with -S name switch

2018-04-22 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am reading docker documentation
https://training.play-with-docker.com/security-seccomp/ and there are samples
how to use strace command for example to strace the whoami there is a sample to
be run from terminal:
strace -c -f -S name whoami

When I execute this command every time error appears:
"Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

I tried:
strace -c whoami
works fine

I tried:
strace -c -f whoami
also works fine.

But:
strace -c -f -S name whoami
every time returns "segmentation fault".

It looks like "-S name" switch is the cause of the problem.

Regards

[Bug 1749993] Re: After turning low-resolution-graphics Dash is transparent to unusable state

2018-02-16 Thread grofaty
In both cases "low graphic mode" true or false the "tab switcher" background is
too transparent too.
This happened to me first time and I am using Ubuntu more then 10 years
(different versions of course but the same! laptop).

I pressed Alt key and hold and then press Tab key. Still holding Alt key
I did a photo from my phone with one hand, so not the best photo. But
from attachment it is clear tab switcher background is too transparent
too.

[Bug 1749993] Re: After turning low-resolution-graphics Dash is transparent to unusable state

2018-02-16 Thread grofaty
Now I have turned off low graphic mode in terminal:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity lowgfx false

And ever worse problem appeared with launcher icons becoming black. I
restarted computer and problem persists. See attachment.

If I turn on lowgfx again with:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity lowgfx true
launcher icons are in colour again (but as reported above Dash transparency
appear - just like in original bug report).

Did several tests. Turing on/off lowgfx and every time:
- lowgfx false --> black icons in Launcher
- lowgfx true --> icons in Launcher are fine, but original transparency problem
in Dash is present

[Bug 1749993] [NEW] After turning low-resolution-graphics Dash is transparent to unusable state

2018-02-16 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

I have fresh installed Ubuntu 16.04 like two weeks ago or something. Today I
have updated packages:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

I have noticed compiz and other packages updated and from article
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/02/new-unity-desktop-update-now-
available I have seen it is now possible to turn on "low graphic mode"
which is excellent idea for my 14-years old 32-bit laptop.

I did:
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity lowgfx true

logged off and logged back in.

When I press Super key Dash is launched, but display is totally useless
way too transparent. See print screen.

I have never had such a problem. Turning low graphic mode off and this
problem disappears.

P.S. I also have the problem with Alt+Tab switcher now background in
switcher is white (if white background) it looks the same transparent
problem. I turn off low graphic mode, switcher is still white. This is
new problem after today Ubuntu update.

[Bug 1510624] Re: double menu bar

2016-10-17 Thread grofaty
I have also tested VLC on Ubuntu 16.04 and issue still exists.

I also tried to apply official daily PPA from
https://launchpad.net/~videolan/+archive/ubuntu/stable-daily:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
sudo apt-get update

Update is installed, but issue is the same.

Two questions:
1. Was this bug fixed also for Ubuntu 16.04 or just for the latest Ubuntu 16.10?
2. Was fix pushed upstream to VLC official project or was if fixed locally for
Ubuntu only?

[Bug 1594570] Re: System Settings | Sound empty device list and no sound in video player, after reboot it works fine

2016-07-05 Thread grofaty
That's it! On firejail web page there is statement that this is bug in
PulseAudio 7.0, but it looks like it effects PulseAudio 8.0 also,
getting version by typing: pulseaudio --version

Work-around solution described in your firejail.wordpress.com link fixes
the problem.

[Bug 1598420] [NEW] Switch account and there is not possible to type in location bar in Firefox anymore

2016-07-02 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop 32-bit.
1. Login into Ubuntu with normal user.
2. Everything works fine also in Firefox without a problem.
3. Wait for few minutes that screen gets locked or press Super+L to lock a
screen.
4. Now on log on screen select another user and login.
5. Start Firefox (default browser installed when Ubuntu is installed).
6. Click in location bar and try to type something in it. It looks like
keyboard does not work. This is a problem! With mouse selecting some saved link
from bookmarks and then try to use keyboard, Home/End/PageUp/PageDown works
without a problem, but typing letters in location or search box can not be
performed. Looks like a keyboard problem. But open Gedit, Terminal or any other
application and typing letters works without a problem.

Work-around for this problem:
1. Close Firefox.
2. Open Terminal and type in:
who -u
To get the pid of logged in user.
3. Kill process:
sudo kill -9
4. Start Firefox and now typing in location and search box works fine.

I can reproduce this problem every time!
