[Bug 289034] Re: Disable wallpaper on connection + restart = wallpaper gone forever

2009-02-03 Thread jeroenvrp
I had the same problem. Great that there will be a solution in future
releases, but how to get the wallpaper back?

When the Gnome is started, the wallpaper is loaded, but during all
applications are loaded the wallpaper is replaced by the background
color. I understand it has something to do with Nautilus, but I can't
find the right solution.

[Bug 320298] Re: Please add Gestikk to the repos?

2009-01-23 Thread jeroenvrp
[needs-packaging] Gestikk

gestikk is an application for nearly all netwm-conform windowmanagers
(written in Python) that recognizes predefined mouse gestures and
executes defined actions. For example, with gesture “down - left” you
could run Firefox or simulate the keyboard shortcut Alt Backspace
which restarts the grahpical user interface (better: The Xserver). There
are also included some usefull features like showing the gesture on the
screen while drawing it and notifications when it has been recognized by
gestikk (as a balloontip or as on screen display (OSD).

I can confirm this with the same chipset. On Hardy it works with the
live cd, but after installation there is a black box around the mouse
pointer leaving a sticky trail. Intrepid shows the same, but locks up
after a few secs or clicking or moving the mouse to the edge of the
screen.

For the first time in 3 years I had to disable backports to get things
back to normal. I never had problems with Flash 9.

2008-05-23 Thread jeroenvrp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libxine1

[hardy] dvd devices are not correctly configured in xine (affecting DVD-
playback in Kaffeine)

In Kaffeine under settings for the xine-engine under media. There is a
setting dvd.device. This is set by default to /dev/dvd, but there is
no /dev/dvd (anymore), but instead the dvd-player is using /dev/scd0. So
xine should somehow know how to find right device or /dev/dvd should be
created as a symlink for backwards-compatibility.

This has been tested in a fresh installed Hardy (with all updates
applied) and already installed system upgrade from Feisty, via Gutsy to
Hardy (with all updates applied).

This is very important, because a lot of users can't play dvd's out of
the box. This also falsely triggers the libdvdcss dialog, even if
libdvdcss is already installed.

[Bug 173383] Re: It works only once

2008-05-15 Thread jeroenvrp
I can confirm this and was ready to report this bug:

Using Kubuntu Hardy with OpenOffice.org 2.4.0.

When starting Ooqs2 it loads OOo in the background, like this:
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -nologo -nodefault -splash-pipe=5

When starting e.g. OOo Writer it works as expected. When closing e.g.

Removing urlclassifier3.sqlite only works partly. It indeed stops the

started (max 1 min.). The size of urlclassifier3.sqlite is now 29.7 MB.

I can confirm this. Properly because of the disk activity, the CPU is
going to 100%, until you close Firefox (takes also a while before it's
actually closed). It just started yesterday, out of nothing. I tried
everything to find the cause of it:

I'm working in Kubuntu Hardy KDE 3.5.9.

*Copied a backup of my profile from a few weeks ago: same problem

[Bug 220798] Re: [KDE] Applications tab in preferences is empty in Firefox-3.0b5

2008-04-23 Thread jeroenvrp
An official tar ball doesn't have this kind of problems, so if I
understand correctly there are parts of the official Firefox code split
off and are now part of the Ubuntu firefox-gnome-integration. This
package is not installed when you install the firefox meta package. So
someone on Kubuntu or another Ubuntu-edition that has no Firefox
installed by default (I also understand the firefox-gnome-integration is
installed by default on the Ubuntu-desktop) misses some (essential)
functionality when installing a meta-package.

I think this is a very serious bug, especially because in the past there
was never any kind of problem like this. Also understand that many
Kubuntu users install Firefox as their default browser.

So please fix this.

It is not acceptable that when starting a GTK-application under KDE as

it uses a prober theme.

(e.g. root or another normal user) the gtk-qt-engine doesn't do his job,
resulting in a ugly looking gtk application.

Example:

'kdesu firefox' will result in a ugly firefox.

In Gutsy and before, this didn't happen.

The gtk-qt-engine works fine when starting applications as the current
logged in user.

Confirmed.

I tried to use the .xpi files (nl), like found here:

although they install, the language is not activated.

Using Firefox b4 under KDE3 (Kubuntu).

[Bug 104553] Re: upgrade failed when fontconfig cache dirs are newer than system date

2008-03-04 Thread jeroenvrp
Actually I had this problem today with a fresh Gutsy installation on a
PC. It is not my machine, so I can't get more information than I will
give below. Note, that I installed Gutsy a few weeks ago, without
problems, but with the Live CD.

1. Windows XP was already installed.
2. Used the alternate Gutsy Install CD.
3. There was already a Dapper installation on the partition used, but I
manually rearranged the partitions. 1.5 GB Swap, 10 GB root and the 60 GB home.
Windows NTFS partitions untouched. So overwriting the previous installation
4. Installation went fine.
5. Booting went fine.
6. Installing the upgrades (after doing an extra update) worked until the
configuration of ttf-opensymbol. It gave exactly the same problem as the
original poster. It also refused the upgrade the OOo packages, because of
dependence of the most recent ttf-opensymbol.
7. After reading the forums and launchpad, I found out very quickly that I had
do a sudo touch on all above directories that gave failed to write cache.
8. Problem fixed.

I don't know if there is an other bug report I should give this
information. Is so, please which one?

Cheers,

Jeroen

[Bug 149609] Re: [gutsy] Running a Wine application freezes up the whole system

2007-12-09 Thread jeroenvrp
I installed xserver-xorg-video-openchrome, libviaxvmc1 and
libviaxvmcpro1 (and therefore uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-via).

Although this driver works it also has the same problem I reported
earlier. So it's not a solution.

I can image people think this is a hardware failure, but than it must be
high coincidence, because the problems started on the same moment I
switched from Feisty to Gutsy.

Why reporting bugs if no developer takes a look and tries at least to
fix it?! Very frustrating, from a user point of view.

I don't if it is related, but a part of this bug is not solved.

I can indeed now start X-applications with root.

I still can't start applications as another user on my local system
(user test in the below example) without doing xhost +local: (xauth
does not work either) first. With the previous kdesu I didn't need to
set xhost +local:. Another change is that I don't need to fill in the
password of user test, but my own password that I also use when I want
to start a root-application with sudo/kdesudo. So I can now access every
user on my system with my own password. That is off course very handy,
but confusing.

There you will find the Kubuntu splash (intro.bmp) and the Ubuntu splash

[Bug 147269] Re: [gutsy] When clicking on tools Image Viewer; the PC freezes

2007-10-12 Thread jeroenvrp
No I don't use compiz or similar. My card can't even handle that (on
board 2D). I even try to disable as much fancy stuff as possible.

I attach my xorg.conf and after that I try it again and will attach
Xorg.0.log after (properly) a hard reboot.

[Bug 151093] [gutsy, feisty and below] Text in Openoffice.org can't be pasted correctly with the middle mouse button

2007-10-09 Thread jeroenvrp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Since I can remember it is always almost impossible to copy text out of
Openoffice with just selecting the text and paste it somewhere else with
the middle mouse button (is there a name for this great unix/linux-
feature?).

When you select a text in Openoffice and want to paste it with the
middle mouse button in e.g. a Firefox text form or Kate, the pasted text
is cut off. The exact position where it's cut off is not always the same
and if you select e.g. only a few words it works. Most of the times the
start of the selection is shown, but also sometimes the middle part or
the end part.

There seems to be some kind of structure in this bug:
1. How further down into the document you select the text, how bigger the
problem.
2. How more selections you make, how bigger the problem.

Above rules are not always the same, so maybe it's coincidence.

The bug is also present in reverse (dropping into Openoffice, although
not as worse as into Openoffice), except for formatted content from out
of Firefox (that is pasted 100% correct, i.

This bug is very important if you are someone who wants to quickly
select and drop text from out of or into Openoffice. All the other
applications in Linux don't have this problem. Please fix?!

** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
