I have the same problem (Xubuntu 18.04.1, Dell E7470, Intel HD Graphics 520) light-locker shows password box after waking up, but upon entering correct password screen is black. I've had exactly the same problems since installing 11.04 (used 10.04 before), and this is really annoying. My modem is Huawei E1752. If anyone knows a workaround, post it somewhere.
