So to repeat what I've said on IRC. There seems to be two ways to deal with that, the ideal one I believe would be to have lxc-console attach to tty0 when the container is backgrounded and lxc-start isn't itself attached to it, however figuring this out isn't currently possible from an API client and it'd probably require a break of both the API and the internal communication protocol so we can store and query that extra state.
