So it seems that the print job does go to the printer but nothing happens (other than a short blinking led). Nothing appears in the error log I printed out. When I set to the OKI C5900(PS) it at least comes up with an error complaining about paper sizes and I can press OK and it will print. So while images of Michael Bolton from Office Space beating up the printer with a baseball bat and yelling:PC Load Letter what the $...@# does that mean is running through my head I rather calmly adjusted the page setting on firefox, thunderbird and Open Office. Now it all prints. It also prints fine on the original printer driver. So it seems the only bug is with the driver somehow not talking to the printer and noting a page setup error. Only way I can print is if I print to PDF and then use Adobe or Evince to print the PDF file. Any other application prints fine. I am using Lucid 64bit (had Karmic 64bit as well before) and nothing else has changed. Using the same printer and printer driver. Your error_log does not show any problem and if I set up a printer with the same PPD as you are using, I get correct PostScript output and my HP LaserJet P3005 (PostScript printer) prints it correctly. Can you turn on the function to print error pages in your printer's front panel menus? Perhaps some of the PostScript arriving at the printer causes errors in the printer's PostScript interpreter. If you get pages with error messages then, please post the messages here. To try to get the printer working, change its driver with system-config- printer (System - Administration - Printing). Try the foilowing alternatives: 1. OKI C5900(PS) 2. Generic PCL 6/XL printer, Foomatic/pclcolor 3. I notice now I cannot print from Open Office Writer as well. Again exporting the file to PDF and letting Adobe or Evince print it works.
