[Bug 326582] Re: sort order of files listings in nautilus is not alphabetical
what an useful behaviour to have, why should other people send your request to GNOME if they think they are wrong? Because they are the maintainers. I'm not asking for a lawyer to defend my interests, I'm suggesting a maintainer could file the bug upstream because maintainers are already registered onto the upstream BTS. The maintainer could simply file the bug with the same title it has here on launchpad, copy the URL to the launchpad bug in the bug description, add the original submitter email to the notifications list and remove himself if he wants, but he needs not to register on the BTS. That's an activity that takes at most 2 minutes because the maintainer is already registered at the upstream BTS. From that on, the original submitter will receive bug changes notifications and can reply them by email. [Bug 316889] Re: [jaunty] we should have both Amarok 2.x and Amarok 1.4
Bao2, you can go to https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+package/amarok and https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+package/amarok-common and download the last 1.4 package for your architecture. Then you have to remove amarok in aptitude, install the downloaded deb files manually (I think I used something like “gdebi --apt-line amarok_1.4.10-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb” to do that, according to my bash history.) Then you have to hold the packages to that version, like “sudo aptitude hold amarok amarok-common”, so they don't get updated. However, note that currently update-manager doesn't honor the “hold” flag, so you have to use only aptitude to install updates. The alternative is to simply remove Amarok from the repositories and install it manually (either from source or from the extracted debs). This has the advantage that the updates won't mess with your version, but you'll have to manage any dependencies manually and that may be annoying. -- [jaunty] we should have both Amarok 2.x and Amarok 1.4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Actually, I'm not so sure about the part with gdebi --apt-line”. I don't remember exactly how I installed the deb files, a double click might have been enough (but make sure you start with amarok-common and then install amarok itself). You can also get the source package for amarok, hack it so the package receives a different name (like amarok14 instead of amarok), and then build and install that one. This has the advantage that dependencies are handled automatically by aptitude and update-manager, but they don't try to update amarok to the repository version (2.*). -- [jaunty] we should have both Amarok 2.x and Amarok 1.4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When installing it was suggested by the Hardware Driver that the Nvidia driver that I was using was a different version. As soon as I re-install this the problem starts all over again. It seems there is a conflict between the latest updates and the Nvidia 180.27 driver. I'll have to put up with the display offset (no Nvidia restricted driver) until this is fixed. -- [Jaunty]No X display after log-in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326559 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 326344] Re: compiz freezes on login as of xorg-server 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu2
I can confirm that this happened only after applying the xserver-xorg updates. I've been using nvidia 180.27 + Compiz for a couple of days wiith _no problem_, it wasn't until I rebooted today (after download/installing the xorg updates) that the problems began. I too can recreate the same problem with KWin (it also freezes if desktop effects are enabled). Compiz should probably be removed from the title of this bug. There seems to be Bluetooth problems at three different levels = A. Kernel - Some Bluetooth adapters may not function with kernel 2.6.27. This is definitely NOT the case with D-Link DBT-122 because I DO use it successfully. See 1. above. See also 2008-11-07 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289836 B. Bluetooth version --- Some Bluetooth adapters may not function with Bluetooth 4 -- see my initial post as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/291298 and on 2008-11-04 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289836 -- but function with Bluetooth 3 as explained above and on 2008-11-07 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289836. C. Pairing -- Even if one has no kernel problem and/or solved the Bluetooth version problem to the point that hciconfig shows an active device, there can be still problems of pairing. A lot of people in this and other bugs (marked as duplicates) complain about pairing. Pairing has always been tricky and poorly documented. Forums are full of advice about different flavours of pin helper, including replacing the pin helper altogether by 'echo PIN:1234 '. When I began using my dongle with my Nokia phone two or three years ago, I had to hack the pairing in this way. (Story, in French, http://www.meeus-d.be/linux/bluetooth.html.) This was under control of /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf. I do not now if it is still the case. Ideally, one should file A, B and C as three different bugs. But when Bluetooth is not functioning, it is not clear for everybody whether it is the case of A, B or C. Therefore it make sense also to keep A, B and C together under one bug number -- but then one should mind the fact that there are (at least) three different problems. It would be interesting that somebody post here links to some documentation about pairing and pin helper in the present situation (Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04). I am afraid that sometimes the kernel is accused for what is ultimately a tricky but secondary problem of pin helper with easy workaround once you know where it is hidden and how it works. -- Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 326638] [NEW] difficult to understand options should be removed from gnome
Public bug reported: This report comes from the discussion at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/326582, in particular from the Sebastien Bacher post: that's a good point and maybe that should not be an option, feel free to open a bug to discuss that if you want Here I list the options in nautilus preferences panels that normal users cannot understand and consequently should be removed: Executable text files should be removed entirely, normal users don't even know what an executable text file is. In Icon Captions the options Type, Owner, Group, Permissions, Octal permissions, MIME Type and SELinux Context should be removed. The same goes for List Columns. Actually the simplification process should be done for the whole Gnome at large, by removing most of the menu items under System/Administration and most menu items under System/Preferences. We should also remove some menus from Applications as well, such as Software development or whatever's called Sviluppo in english, and maybe also Universal access, since normal users don't need it *. I hope the maintainers can forward this bug upstream, because, as I understand it from the linked bug above, this should be a bug Gnome maintainers agree on. Thanks in advance, Lucio. *) The last is obviously a joke, the rest is a serious request. The last remaining patch in xfdesktop4 needs to be reverted, and a xubuntu-specific desktop file to be added in xubuntu-default-settings. [Bug 326640] [NEW] Wishlist: Ubuntu package contents search plugin
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 As suggested by Tom, I'm posting my question as a bug report with Wishlist in the title. cf here for original question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+question/53260 = Firefox on Ubuntu seems to come with a search plugin to search for packages on packages.ubuntu.com. It would be nice and even more practical to have a search plugin to search package contents. There used to be one on mycroft that worked, but it stopped working a while ago. I created a new working one today: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/developer/devlist.html?email=zohn.joidberg%40gmail.comdpsubmit=Go I wasn't sure wether to post this feature request as a bug on launchpad or an idea on brainstorm.ubuntu.com.
