There are two other files in /etc/samba.d not already attached to this report. gdbcommands contains two lines bt and quit. smb.conf.ucf- new is attached. As per original post, after the failed merge, I let the install overwrite then manually merged my changes. From which version were you upgrading from DpkgTerminalLog.gz, skip down to line 8151. Everything above that is irrelevant. Find samba. Line 8378: Preparing to replace samba 3.0.28a-0ubuntu3 (using .../samba_3.0.28a-1ubuntu2_i386.deb) ... What was the first version of ubuntu you've installed on the system ? I've had Ubuntu since 6.04; I've always tracked the /next/ release through the development cycle. Did you modify the default smb.conf file ? Yes. At line 8604, you'll see my first thought was to try the offered merge option. Line 8605 shows an unhappy dpkg. I'm not sure what the merge depends on - maybe I don't have it installed and that error isn't handled well? See bug 201059 for more information on the prompt.
