[Bug 508222] Re: Cannot install the package kvm under Ubuntu 8.04

2010-01-16 Thread John Edwards
The testdrive package is not available for Ubuntu 8.04:

$ sudo apt-get install testdrive
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package testdrive

It looks like you are installing the testdrive package from a third
party archive.

If that testdrive package was built for Ubuntu 8.04, then that testdrive
package has a bug and your should contact it's author. If it was not
built for Ubuntu 8.04 you should not use it.

Either way, KVM in Ubuntu 8.04 does not have a bug.

Your other problem with kvm-source is already covered by kvm-source
having a Suggest dependency of the linux-headers package.

[Bug 508222] Re: Cannot install the package kvm under Ubuntu 8.04

2010-01-15 Thread Lödur
[i] After manually installing the package linux-headers-386 with
synaptic, kvm will be configured but something still goes wrong

o Opne a gnome-terminal, type the following and press the [Enter]-button
LANGUAGE=C sudo apt-get install testdrive

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  testdrive: Depends: qemu-kvm but it is not installable or
  kvm (= 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.4) but
1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.4~hardy1 is to be installed or
  virtualbox-ose (= 3.0.8) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Broken packages
