Is that still an issue with the current setup? We did changes that should somehow address that as described on https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/bringing-back-flutter-translations We configured the ubuntu-desktop-translations project to use reviewers, but it seems Weblate doesn't give us the option to mandate new translations to be reviewed (unless we mis-configured it, if that's the case and there is a better way please let us know)? The configuration should enforce though that changes to existing strings need to go through a moderator (unless we got that also wrong/don't understand Weblate enough) and such at least resolve the 'random people overwriting' issue. Translating the Ubuntu flutter applications (including the installer)
Dear Translators, Some cycles ago I emailed[1] the translators list to let them know that the new installer (which is written in flutter) could be translated in weblate The initial reason still stands today For those wondering the choice of platform, the frontend is written in flutter and there is no integration in launchpad for that translation format so we checked around and weblate sounded like the right choice. Going forward we had an issue in 23.10 due to the open permissions used for the project https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/announcement-ubuntu-desktop-23-10-release-image-translation-incident-now-resolved We have now updated our configuration to restrict the strings validation to trusted members. We currently don't have a way to automatically map our existing launchpad translation teams to Weblate but if you part of a ~ubuntu-l10n- group on launchpad and would like to help by validating translations also on Weblate we will happily add you as a reviewer for your language. Please reply to this email (either in private to me or on the list) with the email you use for weblate and we will get you added. The translation project got renamed as part of the changes and includes the installer/provisioning components as well as the app-center and firmware-updater https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/ubuntu-desktop-translations/ Thanks, Sebastien Bacher [1] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2021-November/007791.html -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

Hey translators, snapd-desktop-integration is used for some interactions between snapd and the user session. New software-properties and gnome-initial-setup strings need translation
Hey there, We are replacing the software-properties-gtk 'Livepatch' tab by an reworked 'Ubuntu Pro' UI which is providing Livepatch but also more services. The change is in Lunar (though not visible since the service is only available on LTS series) and also being SRU in J/F/B (currently in proposed) You can find the strings to translate on https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lunar/+source/software-properties/+translations (the translations are shared between series so focusing on Lunar should be enough) We are also changing the Livepatch step of the Ubuntu Desktop first login wizard by an Ubuntu Pro one. The change is specific to 22.04 and the strings can be translated there https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/gnome-initial-setup/+translations Translations updates done in the next weeks will be included as part of the language packs refresh in LTS .2 Thanks, Sebastien Bacher -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

The snap also include exported translations from launchpad so we should regularly include a refresh of translations Since the template has only be updated now there might be new string that need translation on https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store-desktop/trunk/+translations , ideally we should work on making that template exclude the upstream strings since we do a msgmerge with the gnome-software translations and the snap-store .po aren't updated on launchpad... New gnome-control-center strings
Hey there, We worked on a redesign for the fingerprint authentification settings which landed upstream now and is included in our recent package update as a backport https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/merge_requests/741 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/1:3.36.4-1ubuntu1 The new design includes new strings, those are going to be translation upstream in the new serie but since we decided to apply those changes to focal as well it would be better to have the translations updated on launchpad earlier so they are available in the incoming LTS .1 You can find the strings on https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/groovy/+source/gnome-control-center/+pots/gnome-control-center-2.0/fr/+translate?show=untranslated (change 'fr' by your locale) (the strings are going to be available for focal as well once the SRU is accepted but since the translations are shared between launchpad series it doesn't really matter) Cheers, Sebastien Bacher -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

Upstream translations imports to cosmic might be missing (due to translations sharing launchpad option)
Hey translators, It's the not the first time/cycle that option creates issue, but when "sharing with an upstream vcs" is being used then the translations from the package uploads are not being imported. In theory the vcs sharing is a nice idea, but in practice most of the GNOME upstream imports on launchpad are outdated or buggy and as a result the translations don't get updates. Unsure how that option get turned on again but it was activate on most desktop/GNOME components (if someone did that please don't do it again!). I did go through the main applications/desktop component, unset the option and did no change uploads to cosmic to get the source translations imported, I didn't do rebuilds for every package though since a good part looked like they had uptodate enough translations. New gnome-control-center strings
Hey there, One of the features we landed in 18.04 is support for thunderbolt devices authentification. We missed the gnome-control-center integration (to be able to review/revoke auths) because it landed a bit late upstream, but we plan to include that in a SRU. In preparation for that update I manually refreshed the launchpad translations template to include the new strings. The strings are now available on https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+source/gnome-control-center (see the "untranslated" column, or they have currently the ids 577 to 595) The translations team should have time to work on those before the next language pack export, once we have those in a langpacks update we can SRU the UI in an user friendly way. If I > understand it correctly, it means that the .mo files will be built > from the .po files present in the source of respective package and end > up in /usr/share/locale//LC_MESSAGES next time respective > package is uploaded. Since those projects have been Ubuntu focussed and translators on launchpad are usually working on Ubuntu translations and since we have the translations in good shape for the indicators I think it would make sense to keep using langpacks. That means adding "X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes" to their debian/control and doing an upload. The other way would be to export/download the translations for each indicators, copy them/commit to the source and do an upload. But then you need to keep doing that or you need to communicate to translators that they need to submit their fixes to those projects. update-notifier: $package string shouldn't be translated
Hey, I'm updating the packages that don't use langpacks to include translations for raring. The updated .po files for update-notifier were creating some issues because $package, which is a variable name, got translated in a few locales when it shouldn't.
