[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480655] [NEW] X crashed after suspend, respawned X was unresponsive to keyboard and mouse
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This is a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Radeon Xpress 200M. (I assume further hardware detail was attached by ubuntu-bug, but if not I will happily try to provide further details.) I suspended at 10:41 and tried to resume at 11:01. My screen contents never reappeared and I was taken to a (graphical) log-in screen. At this screen, my system was unresponsive to keyboard or touchpad, but it shut down cleanly when I pressed the power button. (ie. I did not have to power cycle it.) I think what had happened was that the X server crashed on resume and was respawned although without keyboard or touchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head
Why is this set as Wishlist? If the mouse pointer could be moved outside the display area on a single monitor, that's a clear bug. I don't see how this is different, except that it's more technically challenging. A suggestion for the fix: Make sure the physical displacement of the mouse pointer when moving from one screen to the other is minimal, based on the layout and resolutions specified in the GNOME display preferences. -- Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxrandr in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447403] Re: Tapping upper right corner no longer produces middle click in Karmic
I agree too. I don't understand this change. It's counterproductive. Middle click has been very important mouse action in linux. It's not windows nor mac. We need 3 buttons. Sure you can press left and right button at once and generate middle click. But it requires two fingers to acomplish that. It hurts productivity. If some new linux users feel that using touchpad for moving pointer around, scrolling and having 3 types of click is too much.. Ok. I can understand that, but lets give them option to turn some of it off then. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head
Same problem with my ATI card on Karmic, especially annoying since my desktop has the smaller screen (of 2) on the left side, and any icons that are automatically placed on the desktop will be placed in the 'virtual desktop void' on top of the screen, where I can't see them. So it's not just the mouse cursor being able to go there, but also desktop icons (I think the same also goes for menus and such). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397420] Re: jaunty, xserver crash on startup, toshiba tecra m1
O.K. That seem probable, because it's the gdm image that appears. I removed gdm completly and made the changes /etc/gdm -- /etc/gdm_save too. It works up to now. Thanks Thomi. I'm still using Kubuntu jaunty (9.04), but I made the change from Ubuntu (gdm) to Kubuntu (kdm) and that's why there was a gdm installed on my system. Well, during that time I investigated a little more about the graphics system and found that it could be something with RandR (definitly not the hal package bacause it's all about input devices - sorry, I didn't understand that.) My assumption is because of: if I use the raw xorg.conf with nearly no specifications about my graphics system, it works fine. No message about low graphics mode - but it's running in 800x600 solution on 800x600 pixels, means leaves a black frame on my monitor. I tried to modify the RandR configuration like in http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/RandR but the frame didn't disappear, I only had a bigger screen 'behind' the frame (like looking through a hole of 800x600). With the modified xorg.conf (s.a.) and the changes of /etc/gdm it works. I didn't update to 9.10 because I'm dependent on a running stystem at the moment. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480777] [NEW] Pressure sensitivity support insuficient
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-aiptek I've got a G-Pen 560 which identifies itself as Aiptek. It works in Jaunty with the Aiptek driver, with the Wacom driver and with the Wizardpen driver, but with the Aiptek driver pressure sensitivity doesn't work well, If I draw a line with pressure set to opacity and applying almost no pressure at the start of the line and gradually increase pressure until reaching full pressure and ending the line I should get a nice gradient from white to black (as is the case with the other drivers). Instead I get the same light gray all the way to the middle of the line where a very short gradient transitions to full black which stays the color for the second half of the line. I've tested this with multiple applications that support pressure sensitivity and with different settings for the .fdi file (zMax to 1023 and to 511) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-aiptek (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Pressure sensitivity support insuficient https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-aiptek in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401164] Re: [GM45] crash on intel GM45 with screen offset 770
I didn't find the time to test with karmic until today. Good news: the reported crash no longer occurs, I can place both displays side by side for a virtual desktop of 2304 x 800. This doesn't really solve the problem for me since unfortunately Xorg is prohibitively slow on this machine with karmic: redrawing a konsole window takes several seconds with 100% CPU for Xorg. Okay, closing this bug. If you have time to follow up it would be nice if you could report the performance problem as a new bug (preferably with `ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel`). There are a few things you may check for at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480906] Re: [Karmic] NVIDIA 7600GS + Samsung SyncMaster 913TM (DVI): X cannot start (No valid modes)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-vesa - Karmic LiveCD is unusable on my machine because at the moment when X should start I see frequently flashing console with login string (looks like X tries to start, but doesn't stop trying). + Karmic LiveCD is unusable on my machine because at the moment when X should start I see frequently flashing console with login string (looks like X vainly tries to start, but doesn't stop trying). After upgrading from Jaunty (where vesa works fine) to Karmic when trying to use vesa driver (1:2.2.1-1) or just removing any other suitable drivers I experience the same problem: the white ubuntu logo goes out and nothing but infinitely flashing console. Workaround: installing xserver-xorg-video-vesa package from jaunty (1:2.0.0-1ubuntu6) solves problem. Also I noticed that -nv driver doesn't work(the same symptoms but Xorg.log looks different) after upgrade (I don't know if it correlate somehow with vesa problem). Installing -nv package from Jaunty also helps. Should I submit separate bug report for -nv or should I provide Xorg.log for -nv right here? P.S. Excuse my English. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.
I found a workaround to this issue for those of you who have an intel graphic card (which is what HP Pavillion PCs come with). you must revert to an older version of the graphic card driver by following these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4 The instructions were intended for Jaunty but they also work for 9.10 Of course, since the system hangs, you need to start in recovery mode to run those instruction from the command line. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395476] Re: nvidia sets HUE to -1000
I have two laptops with nvidia hardware, both running karmic, both using the 185.18.36-0ubuntu9 driver packages. The GeForce Go 7700 does not suffer from this bug, but the GTX280M does... however the videobalance hue=-1... workaround noted above (comment #11) only works for me if I use 1 instead of -1. Selecting X Window System (No Xv) also works, but greatly increases the CPU usage for high-res video... I'd imagine with a slower machine that could be a problem. Using the videobalance hue=... workaround on the 7700 actually _causes_ the hue to be messed up on that machine. -- nvidia sets HUE to -1000 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395476 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 455628] Re: Open source drivers rotate textures on ATI Xpress 200M under wine
I have received no feedback since I posted this last month. My curiosity is whether this may be a weak ATI OSS video driver implementation issue exposed by a 32bit/64bit conflict. The wine layer technically runs everything in 32bit mode on a 64bit architecture running 3D against a 64bit driver which is a very complicated situation to say the least. Paul: What is your arch? 64 or 32 bit? Please post the output of: uname -r uname -m lspci glxinfo Once we have this info we may be able to figure out where it's going wrong. In the mean time, I will test a 32bit live CD on my laptop to see if that may bypass the issue. If the live CD works it may be a problem with the OSS video driver's implementation of 32bit 3D rendering in 64bit mode. If not, I suspect that it may be related to embedded Mobility chips and an incomplete implementation of software TCL. I remember that the closed source drivers on their final release for my hardware finally started working properly, but until that driver they also would not work right I'm just not sure what changed. i know the 9600 [RV350] is a desktop card which has hardware TCL, but my laptop does not. I am curious to know whether or not your card has hardware TCL Paul. -- Open source drivers rotate textures on ATI Xpress 200M under wine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455628 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
