[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl
This is still an issue for me. I'm running 8.04 (up to date) on a HP DV 1700 series laptop. When I use the GUI to swap the ctrl and caps keys, the key marked caps lock is still the only one that is triggering the LED. Actually, I ran the command xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock as suggested above, and that has fixed it for now (yet to restart). On another computer running 9.10 (no way am I putting that on my laptop, I'm sticking with what I *know* works), the problem does not occur. (And, previously, running, I think it was 7.10 on my laptop, it didn't occur either.) If the xmodmap command sticks after restarting, I'll edit this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 453812] Re: [i945] [karmic] regression: I can't turn off LVDS on my MSI Wind (Intel 945GME)
Just for reference, the problem here is that the MSI Wind UXXX and its OEM variants generate keypress events in hardware each time the brightness level is changed which is a source of trouble (e.g. see bug #415023). Since the Intel Xorg driver sets the brightness to 0 before turning the screen off via DPMS, keypress events are generated which cause power management software such as gnome-power-manaager, powerdevil, or xfce4-power-manager to immediately turn it back on. the details are in the upstream bug. -- [i945] [karmic] regression: I can't turn off LVDS on my MSI Wind (Intel 945GME) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl
It doesn't stick. But, rather than mess around with config files, I've got another work around. Put the command: xmodmap -e clear lock -e add lock = Caps_Lock into the sessions thingy (System- Preferences - Sessions - Add, the name is whatever, the command is the one above etc.). Also after switching through the GUI, but before running the xmodmap command, ctrl-alt-backspace has to use the 'real' ctrl key. ctrl-alt- arrow (to switch desktops) has to use the 'new' (formally caps) ctrl key. After running the xmodmap command, the 'new' ctrl key works for everything. -- Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

If I attach an HP monitor to my PC detect it then plug back the IIyama monitor it works fine, the only problem is that if I restart the computer I loose the settings. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297143] Re: Xorg eats processor cycles while waiting for slow Internet
It takes exactly 10 seconds for a connection to any new web page on 9.10. Once in a web site directory things seem slower too but I cannot confirm this. The older version takes .2 seconds for the exact same site ( I have two hard drives). I also installed Opera 10.0, same thing. I am running DSL at 3.0. Puppy Linux takes .18 seconds to load the pages. I know this is accurate because I have software to measure internet speed. There is definitely a bug in 9.10 regarding connecting to a new web site and the browser is NOT the problem. I noticed the problem immediately when I upgraded to 9.10. I have no idea about dialup, maybe it is OK on dialup. -- Xorg eats processor cycles while waiting for slow Internet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297143 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444154] Re: Mouse pointer gets stuck on the rightmost X screen
I was playing around with a second screen yesterday and experienced the exact same problem. However, it isn't specific to the 'right most' screen, it's whatever the second screen is, independent of relative positions. I configured the second screen with the ATI Control Center app that comes with the fglrx drivers, and the bug showed up with separate X screens, or with xinerama, but not with one unified screen (which makes sense). I also tried configuring the screens with the gnome display properties app, but got the same results. I can also verify that hooking up a usb mouse allows you to move the pointer back to the main screen. Because my apport-collect was run without the second screen attached, I've manually added one of the dual-head xorg.confs that was causing me the problem. ** Attachment added: ATI control center generated xorg.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35749588/xorg.conf.amd -- Mouse pointer gets stuck on the rightmost X screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444154 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 483113] [NEW] Super user key shortcut does not work (=get captured) when you try to use it in System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: udev System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts I think it's the only shortcut key that doesn't work yet I find it very convenient on older versions of GNOME. This regression exists in Ubuntu 9.10 and Debian Squeeze (both GNOME 2.28 at the time of posting). I tested this on Ubuntu i386 and Debian amd64 so, the bug exists in both and it would be great if the changes could be made upstream for all the distros to benefit. Thanks for your time. P.S. I think the package is udev for hotkeys but if it's not please redirect this bug to the appropriate section. Also, the Upstream GNOME and Debian projects seem to have ignored my similar bug reports but I hadn't filed it as udev because I did not know and after reading something here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage, I think I finally found the correct package to file the bug in. ** Affects: udev Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: udev (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: New -- Super user key shortcut does not work (=get captured) when you try to use it in System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/483113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469820] Re: [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse
Daniel, we (and more importantly, upstream) have a policy of only one reporter per bug report. This is because xorg-bugs that look exactly the same can have different causes. It soon gets confusing when we have files from different reporters in the same bug report, especially if it turns out that the logs are incompatible. We appreciate your information, but we would prefer it in a separate bug report. If the issues turn out to be the same, it can be marked as a duplicate, which means that we have two linked bug reports of the same issue, but it is easy to keep track of which files come from where. For both of you, it would actually be nice if you could look at bug 447892, comment 23. Using xorg-edgers (https://launchpad.net/~xorg- edgers/+archive/ppa) and the debug option mentioned there, will probably provide more useful batchbuffer dumps. -- [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 452907] Re: [PM800] No terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1, ...) after suspend to RAM (cunfused screen now)
@ Bartosz My ubuntu revision is ubuntu 9.10, the latest update concerning this update was at 2009-11-09 Note: the diffused screen changes when you open an other program as firefox (you see an other name). The diffused screen is only a very very bad copy of the X-server-screen. At shutdown, I think the messages are visible, but NOT when shutdown the x-server (/etc/init.d/gdm stop). After the gdm stop the diffused screen is still visible, whithout the Mozilla Firefox or ... mark. But when you press now the POWER-Button of the Notebook, the spash- screen is correct, and a quick time before HALT you can see some messages (perhaps after the splash is terminated) -- [PM800] No terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1, ...) after suspend to RAM (cunfused screen now) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 483832] [NEW] AMD64x2, Nvidia, Gnome and KDE, no virtual ttys, and shell in konsole or gnome terminal dies
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This is possibly not the same as bug 457695 as it is on different graphics hardware, although there are similarities. This is Acer Aspire 7520 with Nvidia graphics and Nvidia driver. First noticed in Kubuntu 9.10, but parallel installation of Ubuntu on same machine has exactly the same problems, so it is probably not a KDE4 bug. First indication is that the shell, in a GUI window (konsole or gnome terminal) just dies. It stops responding to keystrokes, but as the GUI is still working, it can be closed. It will then not restart. It dies if a running non-GUI program is generating output, or when manual keyboard input is occurring, and may be a few seconds to (rarely) an hour or more after startup. On attempting to bring up a virtual TTY to investigate, it was found that keystrokes were having no effect except in any open GUI window such as a text editor, where all works normally. After tghe shell dies, keys are not seen outside the GUI window so can't start any of the virtual consoles by CTRLALTF1 etc. On fresh boot, again in Gnome or KDE, before shell has died, CTRLALTF1 etc bring up black screen, with no cursor, no respones to keyboard, etc. Backlight is still on. CTRLALTF7 returns to GUI correctly. After shell has died, CTRLALTF1 etc do nothing, so there is no way of getting a dmesg etc after the event. Maybe I will be able to set up SSH to have a look, but not yet, as I need another machine. At the moment the only thing to do is to reboot via the GUI, logging out or restarting X does not seem to get the shell working again. I think but can't yet prove that there may be 2 distinct bugs here, one because the virtual TTYs are always dysfunctional, and the other, the shell dying, but it could all be the one bug. The screen resolution is its native 1440*900, if that is relevant. This problem was not seen in 9.04, 8.10 or 8.04 on this hardware. The OS is currently unusable for serious work because I need the shell. Suggestions for further tests will be gratefully received.
