[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 765090] Re: Dragging of windows does not work with trackpad (natty beta)

2011-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Touchpad behaviour has changed (apparently by design) in natty. You
should be able to drag windows using three fingers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771655] [NEW] [i965gm] Xorg crash, randomly since ca. Apr 20

2011-04-27 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Seemingly random crashing, usually quite soon after logging in if it
happens. Started recently during the last two weeks, about the same time
as unity stopped crashing (which didn't bring X down). Seems to be
triggered by _some_ action of mine, usually alt-tabbing or some other
application switch / startup event. But it easily doesn't happen during
a day more than once.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758674] Re: nvidia-current 270.30 claims 8600M GT is not supported

2011-04-27 Thread Alex Bell
This bug affects me to. I have PC at work and notebook at home. I use
11.04 at work and try to report every bug that I see, but at home I have
to use 10.04 because of this driver. It's killing me, there are a lot of
changes since 10.04 that I like but couldn't use at home.

I removed the Bryce PPA and installed the xserver-xorg-video-intel from
natty-proposed. Several reboots later I have not reproduced my earlier
login screen issues. Running on an Asus eee pc 900.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771713] [NEW] Image on external monitor is broken when only the external monitor is enabled

2011-04-27 Thread Adi Roiban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have this strange regression in Natty. Everything was fine in
Maverick.

I have an intel core i3 CPU with the default video card.

I connect the external monitor using the D-SUB (VGA) connector.

First time when I have connected the external monitor, Ubuntu was trying
to be smart and automatically enabled the external monitor and disabled
the builtin monitor. The image on the external monitor was broken,
flickering very hard and it was not possible to see anything on the
screen.

I pressed the external monitor key from the keyboard and `Display
properties windows was opened with both monitors enabled. Now the image
was stable on the external monitor.

I tried various configurations, it it looks like the image on the
external monitor is only broken when the internal monitor is turned off.

Thanks,
Adi

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771716] [NEW] middle click emulation not working

2011-04-27 Thread Adi Roiban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

This looks like a regression in Natty as in Maverick everything was fine
:).

I have installed a fresh Natty system, but the middle click emulation on my
external mouse is not working.
I am using an external mouse attached to the laptop.

The middle click emulation is working when I used the 2 buttons from the
laptop touchpad.

Thanks!

Plug your mouse, run 'xinput list xinput-list.txt' and attach the file
here.

Middlemouse emulation defaults off now, but we might add a quirk for
your mouse to use it by default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad

2011-04-27 Thread Goofy
Thx, i have an Acer NB and i'am not sure if/why my bugs has been marked
as a duplicate of this one, since the problem is even worse than this -
it does not only fail to disable, it also is not able to set the
sensitivity of the touchpad at all, can't find the reference to my bug
anymore, but it has been rated as a synaptic-driver problem, which seems
also not be fixed until now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689221] Re: No DVI output on Intel 82G33/G31 in Maverick

2011-04-27 Thread Tom Keim
I have exact the same problem on my Acer Aspire L3600. Very annoying.

I use a DVI-HDMI converter. but also a normal DVI screen won't work.
The chipset is the Intel GMA 3100

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771837] [NEW] xorg died (gracefully to login) but without ado

2011-04-27 Thread PresuntoRJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I was using it normally (firefox, chrome, banshee, and also reading a
PDF) when suddenly the X turned off, back to a textual background (as I
would expected if I have pressed Ctrl+Alt+Bckspc, but I have not) and
shortly after I was presented with the login screen again (gdm?) ... it
has happened at least five time the last two weeks, but I was not sure
if it was related with other issues I was also facing during the beta
testing, but now I am sure it had nothing to do with anything else I was
doing. The system is fully up to date (checked just after the issue, to
be sure). I do not had a real step-by-step to reproduce the problem, as
it seems to happen kind of out of the blue. Sice the first few times I
have experience this issue I have installed a current kernel (not from
apt-get) to try to solve something else (it did not seemed to have any
influence on the current problem, as it happened before and after the
upgrade anyway). I also suspect it might have something to do with intel
drivers in xorg, but I am not skilled in x enough to even try this
theory.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-04-27 Thread fbristow
I have the same problem when I am using the newest (version current as
per jockey-kde) NVidia drivers, however the problem disappeared when I
switched to using the 173 series drivers. Using the 173 series drivers
I can resize the terminal to no end (albeit very slowly).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741151] Re: Switching between screens turns on Same image on all monitors when closing laptop lid

2011-04-27 Thread Colin Watson
Moving to the xorg package in Ubuntu, as a first guess; not many bugs
normally need to be release-noted, and in any case they should always be
investigated as normal bugs on Ubuntu before resorting to a release
note.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755715] Re: [RV670] radeon 3870 X2 gives black screen if using extended desktop

2011-04-27 Thread zwaardmeester
The above file is already the result of dmesg dmesg.txt. Also i
checked the /var/log/kern*.logs, no special part about gart there.

Insmodding still fails with the same error. I'm doing it like this:
- first ctrl-alt-F1 and log in
- then sudo service gdm stop
- then sudo insmod radeon.ko on the file -- gives error -1 invalid file
format

Am i doing something wrong here?

Thanks,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689221] Re: No DVI output on Intel 82G33/G31 in Maverick

Same for me.

Using maverick or natty on an Acer Travelmate 8472TG with Acer EasyPort
IV connected. DVI output is recognized as HDMI1 showing correct
resolutions but display always turns to powersave (=no data received).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753994] Re: [arrandale] Display is slanted when using 1360x768 resolution

2011-04-27 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi Bryce!

1- Carl first noticed it while certifying some systems, he stumbled upon
a particular resolution that triggers the problem. Since we hadn't run
the full, exhaustive set of tests on Natty, this was the first time we
noticed it. I then went back to Maverick to confirm whether it'd
happened there as well.

2- No, it's only on the 1360x768 resolution, and only on those two
machines; to begin with, very few systems support that particular
resolution, and none of the others exhibit the problem.

3- I connected an external monitor and switched to the problem
resolution on the built-in display, it's still crooked/slanted. The
external monitor shows no change. I then used xrandr to cycle through
all available resolutions on the external display; none of them exhibit
the problem on that display (though it's independent from the built-in
one). The external display doesn't support 1360x768 so I was unable to
test that :(

4- I'm attaching xrandr and Xorg.log from Maverick, booted with a
LiveCD.

5- I tried the indicated kernel, the slanting/crooking problem still
persists :(

Kernel version from dmesg:
[0.00] Linux version 2.6.38-8-generic (root@ubuntu-Vostro-V131) (gcc
version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu3) ) #42 SMP Tue Apr 26 09:07:43 CST

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz

2011-04-27 Thread Avi Romanoff
I have a brand new Vostro 3550, with an i5 Sandybridge, and I have this
issue. Thankfully, (major props), Felix's above change resolved the
issue. I hope this issue can be resolved for good, is this fix likely to
land in Natty for real?

you can put this option in /etc/default/grub to make the change permanent
replace following line:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 766408] Re: [sandybridge-gt2] GPU lockup using xvmc (Render IPEHR: 0x02000004)

2011-04-27 Thread Fred Flinnstone
Hi,

I'm a bit afraid of exchanging the kernel, 'cause I'm not a pro... If
the system does not boot anymore, I can't get it fixed :( I know, it is
possible to install and boot different versions of the kernel, but I
forgot how to bind them into the grub-menu (I don't even have a boot
menu at all this time). If you can help me out, I would happily try
those new kernels. Many thanx in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771963] [NEW] graphics card uses more power than needed when on batery

2011-04-27 Thread Luis Silva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

By using powertop and reading the radeon/feature page on x.org I managed to
reduce the power consumption when on batery by about 4W on my laptop (from
about 22W to 18W). I just followed the recommendations on:
http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
and did:
$ sudo -c sh 'echo auto   /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile'

This solution, if it doesn't trigger problems for anyone, should be made
either the default or easily configurable through some file in /etc.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771971] [NEW] Temp hangs + screen corruption

2011-04-27 Thread Olivier - interfaSys
Public bug reported:

I'm using two screens, a 30 and a 24. By default the second screen is
disabled, I had to install nvidia-settings to try and fix this, but settings
cannot be saved.
Here are the current problems with the drivers
1) When enabling Twinview, the screen first gets corrupted then displays
correctly
2) When enabling Twinview, the taskbar ends up on the wrong screen
3) Sometimes when clicking on a different sreen that the current one, KDE just
hangs
4) When using 3D effects, the desktop can freeze for several seconds
5) When using 3D effects, the desktop can stop working all together (freeze in
the middle of an operation) and a restart will be required

I've looked in dmesg and I saw this:

2011-04-27 Thread Seth Forshee
SRU Justification

Impact: Graphics corruption after resuming from hiberante on some
machines with Intel GMA 3150 graphics, others potentially affected as
well.

Fix: Upstream patch to force output registers to known state in resume
hanlder.

Test case: Hibernate affected machines and observe the display after
resuming.

Shouldn't be it for example waiting on 448398, at 448397? Or what are
those numbers? Just an idea... Multithreading problem with 4 cores?
Uncle Jim Beam out... ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755715] Re: [RV670] radeon 3870 X2 gives black screen if using extended desktop

2011-04-27 Thread Tormod Volden
Oh no, I just realized you are on amd64... I was building i386 modules
:(

I am not going to cross-compile for amd64, but I will attach the patch
here in case someone else is willing to do it.

Otherwise, you can also try booting a i386 live CD to see if the issue
is the same there. In that case, you can boot with radeon.nonsense=1
to block the normal radeon module, then insmod my module. But then you
need to acquire the dmesg output afterwards, either by installing
openssh-server and setting a password for the ubuntu live user and
logging in from another computer, or by mounting a hard drive, and
running sleep 60; dmesg /media/your-harddrive-ID/dmesg.txt on
another virtual console so that it gets written to your harddrive (or
memory stick).

If this is too much for you, that's ok, we'll just have to wait and see
if someone else can contribute.

** Patch added: (upstreamable) patch to get more debug information

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771991] [NEW] Resume from suspend causes video crash on Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro M1437G Laptop (ATI Mobility X700 )

2011-04-27 Thread Kirill Shatalaev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hi.
I Installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro M1437G laptop.
When I m trying to suspend it and resume it wakes up, shows a multiple
colorfull grafical artefacts, and a white screen in a few seconds. This is end,
until I send laptop into cold reset.
Or, It is possible with malfuncted display to open a console by ctrl-alt-F1
(completely blindfold), to login (blindly) and to enter (blindly) sudo reboot.
Then it is rebooting.
Disabling KMS choosing radeon.modeset=0 via grub causes my laptop to suspend
and resume propertly. But in that case grafic is poor and there is no 3d, there
is no compiz, there is no Unity ever.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 754799] Re: [arrandale] external VGA output doesn't output anything (i686)

2011-04-27 Thread Daniel Manrique
Oops, sorry, you're right about the hotkey, I'm repeating the test with
xrandr this time.

I'm running the same experimental kernel:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next-
proposed/current/linux-
image-2.6.39-994-generic_2.6.39-994.201104200727_amd64.deb

On booting I see the following references to the GMBUS timed out,
falling back to bit banging message:

[ 14.327182] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin 3
[i915 gmbus panel]
[ 15.375376] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin 4
[i915 gmbus dpc]

I then tailed both /var/log/syslog and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, then plugged
in the external display (no key presses, no xrandr yet). Here's what
happens right when I plug it in (you're right, the GMBUS message appears
right when I plug the external display):

== /var/log/syslog ==
Apr 27 15:14:49 201002-5345 kernel: [ 530.567145] [drm] GMBUS timed out,
falling back to bit banging on pin 2 [i915 gmbus vga]

== /var/log/Xorg.0.log ==
[ 531.748] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 3072x1050 stride 12288,
tiled

I produced a dmesg file with this experimental kernel and the xdiagnose
settings as described on #6. I do see some events when plugging in the
external display and also when running xrandr --auto:

- Plugged in the external at [ 96.419325]
- xrandr --auto at [ 198.077408]

I'm attaching this new dmesg file as it might provide some information.
Still, the problem persists and the external display shows nothing, even
though it's being detected and used (terminal windows still appear in
the external monitor, for instance, and I have to move them to the
built-in to be able to use them).

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Hi.
I Installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro M1437G laptop.
- When I m trying to suspend it and resume it wakes up, shows a multiple
colorfull grafical artefacts, and a white screen in a few seconds. This is end,
until I send laptop into cold reset.
+ When I m trying to suspend and resume it wakes up, shows a multiple colorfull
grafical artefacts, and a white screen in a few seconds. This is end, until I
send laptop into cold reset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564593] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2

2011-04-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2011-04-27 Thread zwaardmeester
I can try to boot from i386 USB stick, they have a seperate partition
to store permanent data on. I need to set up extended desktop mode
anyway first, then reboot, before the problems occur.

I'll be back :)

2011-04-27 Thread bugbot
Thanks for testing Ubuntu and helping report GPU lockup bugs by using
the automated bug reporting tools.

Unfortunately, due to a bug in these reporting tools that existed in
maverick and prior Ubuntu versions, the error dumps that were collected
don't actually include the correct error codes. Because of this, the
bugs cannot be diagnosed using this data.

On a more positive note, using the fixed tools we were able to make a
huge amount of progress on these freeze bugs in natty. In some cases
the issues were resolved, in other cases we have a much deeper
understanding of what is causing them.

For these reasons, this bug report no longer needs to be kept open.
Thank you again for participating in the effort to stabilize the Intel
video driver for Ubuntu. Hopefully with natty we're getting closer to
achieving this goal...

understanding of what is causing them.

For these reasons, this bug report no longer needs to be kept open.
Thank you again for participating in the effort to stabilize the Intel
video driver for Ubuntu. Hopefully with natty we're getting closer to
achieving this goal...

Check disc for defects (run on a different computer than the test system)
reports no errors.

I booted from a CD, chose English, and selected Try Kubuntu without
installing. After ~10 seconds the screen flashed on and off
repeatedly, then stayed in the black-but-powered-on state. Eventually I
heard the KDE start-up sound. The screen did not light up when I tried
moving the cursor or pressing keys. Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7 did not
switch to other TTYs or sessions.

The test computer is an HP Elitebook 8440p model WH255UT#ABA. Chipset:
