[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale 1.2x1.2 restricts area in which mouse moves

2011-12-18 Thread Wolf
For me it is a showstopper to!!

So please if someone has a temporary solution, pleas tell.

Perhaps it is possible to install an older version of Xorg or of some
packages? And if it is possible, how to do this?

Since I updated my EeePC I can't use it for something else than Surfing!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905905] [NEW] nvidia-173 173.14.30-0ubuntu8: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build

2011-12-18 Thread Karsten Ehrlich

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 835945] Re: [needs quirk] Hansol H750 giving wrong EDID refresh rate

2011-12-18 Thread Tormod Volden
I think the poor chaps at Hansol have encoded the detailed mode clock
frequency as big-endian instead of little-endian. Swapping bytes 36 and
37 would give a frequency of 125.22 MHz (1280x1024@70) instead of 599.22
Mhz. I have studied a couple of other Hansol EDID dumps but I could not
find any other model having this error.

I therefore made a proposal for a quirk for your model. Can you please test
this kernel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-12-18 Thread iltony
This fixes the problem:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/275.43/

and for 64 bit users:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/275.43/

They state (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2510957):
* Fixed a regression that caused blank/white windows when exhausting video
memory on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs while using composited desktops.

And that's true: tested and working. Hope for a fast update of nvidia-
graphics-driver related package through synaptic. I installed the driver
from NVIDIA binaries and am currently running GNOME 3 on Ubuntu 11.10;
my video card is a NVIDIA GO 7300; can confirm nvidia driver 275.43
works properly (on my laptop).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2011-12-18 Thread Kelly Doran
I have also been having this bug. I have tried quite a few things to
narrow it down but I could not find anything too definitive.

Basically, to reproduce it, I just go into a big php file and search for
a string that will cause vim to jump around the file a lot. Every once
in a while, when it should be redrawing the screen (I think...) is when
this bug occurs and there will be text corruption. I have reproduced
this in both xterm and gnome-terminal, so I don't think it is a problem
with any specific terminal.

Also, the actual corruption that occurs is different with each terminal.
In gnome-terminal it will just show the same text as before the search
jumped around the file, but the cursor and half the character after it
will be changed to what should be displayed. Moving the cursor up and
down will fix stuff line by line. Xterm on the other hand will jump to
the correct location and redraw most of the screen, however chunks of
text will simply be completely missing (see attachment).

I did a few tests with xterm to try to further pin down what was causing
it to fail and I think the main problem was the font. I tried using the
default xterm font and color scheme and everything seemed to work fine.
After changing the color scheme to the gnome-terminal scheme that ships
with ubuntu, it was also running fine. However once I changed the font
to Ubuntu Mono, size 13, the text corruption started. So either I was
just getting really lucky or the errors were extremely rare using the
normal font, or the change in font is somehow related to this bug.

And finally, I am able to completely get rid of this bug by switching
from unity to unity 2d. I am using 11.10 with pretty much all default
settings and the default nvidia driver. Hope this helps, please let me
know if you guys need any more info!

2011-12-18 Thread Martin Pool
Public bug reported:

Following on from bug 745112 but on precise - similar but different
symptoms so a separate bug.

With an external monitor connected through the doc displayport of a
thinkpad x201, running current precise:

 * the internal screen looks ok
 * if I use the display control panel to try to turn off the internal screen
and use only the external screen, it looks distorted and flickery, with two
panels, as if it's trying to show two desktops on the same display; when the
safety timeout expires it recovers ok
 * if I have the displays side by side and the external display at a low
resolution, it works ok
 * if I try to turn the external display up above 1600x1200 the kernel oopses
(unrecoverably) inside i915_gen_init_ioctl

Created attachment 54524
[PATCH] glapi: fix _glapi_get_proc_addresss

I'm not sure if the patch is completely correct, though there are no
piglit regressions.

There is a bug in the 32-bit mesa build, when asm is enabled -
glXGetProcAddress returns non-NULL for any string starting with gl.

In this case the app calls glXGetProcAddress with the incorrect function
name, e.g. glCreateShaderObject, mesa incorrectly returns non-NULL,
the app calls it.

Sounds like a bug in the application to me. From the GLX 1.4 spec (though
that's certainly not new in 1.4):

A non-NULL return value for glXGetProcAddress does not guarantee that
an extension function is actually supported at runtime. The client must
also query glGetString() or glXQueryExtensionsString to determine if an
extension is supported by a particular context.

I'm not sure what behaviour is correct. I relied on the the description
of glXGetProcAddress:
http://www.opengl.org/sdk/docs/man/xhtml/glXGetProcAddress.xml

A NULL pointer is returned if function requested is not suported in the
implementation being queried.

AFAICS the problem is that extension is supported (ARB_shader_objects),
but the app tries glxGetProcAddress with the wrong name first
(glCreateShaderObject), and if it returns NULL, then the app tries the
same name with the ARB suffix and gets the correct pointer. When
glXGetProcAddress returns non-NULL for the wrong name, the app just uses
the returned pointer, which leads to nowhere. You can view the code here
(see loadsym function) :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906107] [NEW] Chrome browser doesn't render correctly with xserver-xorg-video-radeon

2011-12-18 Thread Leon Maurer
Public bug reported:

The bookmarks and address bar doesn't render correctly when I'm using
xserver-xorg-video-radeon, but it renders correctly with AMD's
proprietary drivers. I've attached a picture to show one of the
problems; it's always present. Other problems include text in entry
areas (like the address bar) being rendered illegibly, and the whole
chrome window being garbled after waking up from sleep (but this can be
fixed by changing to another tab).

I realize this could be a problem with chrome, but I thought I'd post it
here first.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906107] Re: Chrome browser doesn't render correctly with xserver-xorg-video-radeon

2011-12-18 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. This may be a chrome problem, but I'll leave
that determination up to someone more informed. Could you please run
apport-collect 906107 in a terminal, though? That will attach some
relevant system information to this report. Also, please post the
version of chrome that you're running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906107] Re: Chrome browser doesn't render correctly with xserver-xorg-video-radeon

2011-12-18 Thread Leon Maurer
apport is running now. My version of Chome is 15.0.874.121.

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric

** Description changed:

The bookmarks and address bar doesn't render correctly when I'm using
xserver-xorg-video-radeon, but it renders correctly with AMD's
proprietary drivers. I've attached a picture to show one of the
problems; it's always present. Other problems include text in entry
areas (like the address bar) being rendered illegibly, and the whole
chrome window being garbled after waking up from sleep (but this can be
fixed by changing to another tab).

- I realize this could be a problem with chrome, but I thought I'd post it
- here first.

Thanks for running apport. I'm not familiar with debugging this type of
problem, but hopefully there's enough information here now for someone
who does.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905591] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000018 when trying to configure one display centered above another

2011-12-18 Thread brncsk
It also happened to me a couple of times in the last few weeks. I also
had random hangs (without the above kernel panic message shown) that
could only be solved by hard resetting the machine. I'm on precise and
running the latest unity from the unity-team/staging PPA.
