[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294767] Re: Need upgrading for nv110 (maxwell gtx 750)
** Description changed: Testcase: i was succesfully using that driver with an old 8500gt nvidia card plugged within vga. Upgrading to a new gtx 750 card plugged within hdmi 1.3, nouveau cant be used because the bios process is stopped at: fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb ... So to support that gtx750 card, i've installed nvidia 334.21 from joe- yasi/xorg-related ppa, and blacklisted vga16fb, nvidiafb, rivafb and rivatv inside /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file. Note that the actual Trusty archive only propose the 331 driver, so adding the 334 asap should be a good move too. Results about these tweaks: - - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before (it was superb) ; (mesa was also update to 10.2, so maybe related ?) + - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before (it was superb) ; - the lcd display is a 22 1920x1080, but it is found as a 42 1920x1080 by both the kernel and nvidia (nouveau was working fine with the 8500 gt). So i need to downsized now to 1680 to get the menu/topbar/buttons; otherwise they are not seen. To resume: - need nouveau working with nv110 family - need 334.21 driver added to archive ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-18.38-generic 3.13.6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-18-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: .proc.driver.nvidia.version: - NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 334.21 Thu Feb 27 15:04:33 PST 2014 - GCC version: gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-16ubuntu6) + NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 334.21 Thu Feb 27 15:04:33 PST 2014 + GCC version: gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-16ubuntu6) ApportVersion: 2.13.3-0ubuntu1 Architecture: i386 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Wed Mar 19 18:03:50 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: - bbswitch, 0.7, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed - nvidia-334, 334.21, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed - nvidia-334-uvm, 334.21, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed + bbswitch, 0.7, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed + nvidia-334, 334.21, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed + nvidia-334-uvm, 334.21, 3.13.0-18-generic, i686: installed GraphicsCard: - NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] [10de:1381] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:362e] + NVIDIA Corporation GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] [10de:1381] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:362e] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-25 (145 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release i386 (20131021.1) Lsusb: - Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub - Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:c50e Logitech, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295900] Re: lubuntu screen corruption only on cold boot.
** Description changed: steps: 1) cold boot (power on) 2) choose boot (grub) 3) login (lightdm) When logging in, the login rectangle doesn't disappear like it should. 4) Xorg starts Desktop appears but the outline of the login-rectangle is still there. Also everything else that is drawn on the screen stays drawn (i.e. closed windows are still visable, a moved window leaves a trail) as if the system forgets to erase previously drawn objects. Strangely enough, the mousepointer doesn't seem to be affected. - 5) logout (to lightdm) - or: sudo restart lightdm - or: sudo killall -SIGTERM Xorg - or: sudo reboot + 5) sudo restart lightdm 6) login again Everything is suddenly working as it should ( high order magic ?? ) I have had this problem before with kernels newer than 3.13.0-8 but a kernel header install followed by a kernel image reinstall would always fix it. Since kernel 3.13.0-18 this fix doesn't work anymore. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296106] [NEW] startx -- :1 black screen
Public bug reported: I have two Xubuntu 14.04 Beta1 installations: A: upgraded from Xubuntu 12.04.4 B: installed from the Xubuntu 14.04 Beta1 desktop CD. Both Installations are up-to-date. To do a user switch I hit e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2, login as e.g. burdi01 and issue startx -- :1. Initially both A and B gave a black screen without even a cursor. I then hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 followed by Ctrl+C to get out. Some googling told me to comment out the xfce and xubuntu lines in /etc/upstart-xsessions. This resolved the problem for A, but not for B. The ~burdi01/.xsession-errors file showed: libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied libGL error: failed to load driver: r600 Some googling told me to make burdi01 a member of the video group. This eliminated the r600 messages, but did not resolve the problem. The ~burdi01/.xsession-errors file now reads: Xsession: X session started for burdi01 at za mrt 22 18:55:10 CET 2014 localuser:burdi01 being added to access control list openConnection: connect: No such file or directory cannot connect to brltty at :0 Script for ibus started at run_im. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1270672] Re: intel driver installed but still no high resolution
I tried ! But cvt was not giving good results; I would obtain terrible displays and even feared that it would damage my monitor. At that time I had Windoze in dual boot and did not have problems with my display. So I installed Powerstrip, as recommended (I think) on a Xrandr doc page (when everything else fails (cvt, gtf ...), try powerstrip?), noted the results for Linux, swithced back to Ubuntu and ultimately erased Windows. :) . Note : I tried the method of starting from lower resolutions to higher, but never got to 1920 1080. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start
Your work-around works because it doesn't rely on any modifications done by /usr/sbin/lightdm-session where it loads the modifications found in either ~/.Xkbmap or ~/.xmodmap. The modifications to the keyboard layout found in these files are run, but are immediately reverted by some other process - which is a major bug that is really frustrating because it breaks a lot of behavior. This still needs to get fixed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling
Solved the problem by the following procedures: 1) Download and extract the arch package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint.tar.gz 2) Download the source packages of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.7.4 and xserver-xorg-input-evdev_2.8.2 from the debian unstable branch Place all three packages (extracted) in the same folder (folder) such that the three packages reside in folder/arch, folder/synaptics and folder/evdev (rename the folders where necessary).
