[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1270672] Re: intel driver installed but still no high resolution

2014-03-22 Thread Perig
Thank you Daniel for the suggestion but it actually was a problem with
finding the proper xrandr modeline for the Samsung p2350 monitor. I used
the Windows program Powerstrip to find it, which is

1920x1080 148,454 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089 1125 -hsync
-vsync

For me it's :
xrandr --newmode 1920x1080 148,454 1920 2008 2052 2200 1080 1084 1089 1125
-hsync -vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1920x1080

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294767] Re: Need upgrading for nv110 (maxwell gtx 750)

2014-03-22 Thread dino99
** Description changed:

  Testcase:

i was succesfully using that driver with an old 8500gt nvidia card plugged
within vga.
Upgrading to a new gtx 750 card plugged within hdmi 1.3, nouveau cant be used
because the bios process is stopped at:

fb: conflicting fb hw usage nouveaufb ...

So to support that gtx750 card, i've installed nvidia 334.21 from joe-
yasi/xorg-related ppa, and blacklisted vga16fb, nvidiafb, rivafb and
rivatv inside /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file. Note that the actual
Trusty archive only propose the 331 driver, so adding the 334 asap
should be a good move too.

  Results about these tweaks:
- - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before
(it was superb) ; (mesa was also update to 10.2, so maybe related ?)
+ - the display is usable, but, the displayed font quality is worst than before
(it was superb) ;
  - the lcd display is a 22 1920x1080, but it is found as a 42 1920x1080 by
both the kernel and nvidia (nouveau was working fine with the 8500 gt). So i
need to downsized now to 1680 to get the menu/topbar/buttons; otherwise they
are not seen.

  To resume:
  - need nouveau working with nv110 family
  - need 334.21 driver added to archive

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1295900] Re: lubuntu screen corruption only on cold boot.

2014-03-22 Thread thom
** Description changed:

  steps:
  1) cold boot (power on)
  2) choose boot (grub)
  3) login (lightdm)

When logging in, the login rectangle doesn't disappear like it should.

  4) Xorg starts

Desktop appears but the outline of the login-rectangle is still there.

Also everything else that is drawn on the screen stays drawn (i.e.
closed windows are still visable, a moved window leaves a trail) as if
the system forgets to erase previously drawn objects.

Strangely enough, the mousepointer doesn't seem to be affected.

- 5) logout (to lightdm)
- or: sudo restart lightdm
- or: sudo killall -SIGTERM Xorg
- or: sudo reboot
+ 5) sudo restart lightdm

  6) login again

Everything is suddenly working as it should ( high order magic ?? )

I have had this problem before with kernels newer than 3.13.0-8 but a
kernel header install followed by a kernel image reinstall would always
  fix it.

Since kernel 3.13.0-18 this fix doesn't work anymore.

I assume the problem is not directly in X (??) maybe in kernel (??)
since it first appears in lightdm (before X starts)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296020] [NEW] Non-existent display detected in both intel driver and nvidia driver (Optimus Laptop) (ubuntu trusty 14.04)

2014-03-22 Thread sgon00
Public bug reported:

There is a non existent display detected in both intel driver only and nvidia
331 driver installation.
The non existent display is Unknown Display shown in gnome-control-center --
display and CRT-0 in nvidia-settings, and VGA-0 in xrandr -q output.
It will cause gdm failed to start. gnome-shell has some crazy layouts. lightdm
will only occupy 2/3 of monitor in top left corner.
I tested this in intel driver only environment. and nvidia-331 installation
environment.
My laptop is Asus U36JC. My monitor correct resolution is 1366x768.

The following is the output of xrandr -q in gnome-shell with

environment. At present, I don't bother to remove/purge my nvidia-331
installation.

Please let me know if anything else is required. Thank you very much!

issue. I opened a Bug #1296020 for ubuntu 14.04 trusty. This is critical

# rpm -q --changelog xorg-x11-server | head -n8

- Add patch u_randr_account_for_panning_and_transform_when_creating_cursor.patch

I could not detect any difference before or after installing the

plus its dependencies. IOW, pointer could not reach right or bottom

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296106] [NEW] startx -- :1 black screen

2014-03-22 Thread DLCBurggraaff
Public bug reported:

I have two Xubuntu 14.04 Beta1 installations:
A: upgraded from Xubuntu 12.04.4
B: installed from the Xubuntu 14.04 Beta1 desktop CD.
Both Installations are up-to-date.

To do a user switch I hit e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2, login as e.g. burdi01 and issue
startx -- :1.
Initially both A and B gave a black screen without even a cursor. I then
hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 followed by Ctrl+C to get out.

Some googling told me to comment out the xfce and xubuntu lines in
/etc/upstart-xsessions. This resolved the problem for A, but not for
B.

The ~burdi01/.xsession-errors file showed:
libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied
libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
Some googling told me to make burdi01 a member of the video group. This
eliminated the r600 messages, but did not resolve the problem.

The ~burdi01/.xsession-errors file now reads:
Xsession: X session started for burdi01 at za mrt 22 18:55:10 CET 2014
localuser:burdi01 being added to access control list
openConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0

Script for ibus started at run_im.
Script for auto started at run_im.
Script for default started at run_im.
x-session-manager[3689]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead.
 Sorry

For as far as I can see there is nothing special in the syslogs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1270672] Re: intel driver installed but still no high resolution

2014-03-22 Thread Perig
I tried ! But cvt was not giving good results; I would obtain terrible
displays and even feared that it would damage my monitor. At that time I
had Windoze in dual boot and did not have problems with my display. So I
installed Powerstrip, as recommended (I think) on a Xrandr doc page
(when everything else fails (cvt, gtf ...), try powerstrip?), noted
the results for Linux, swithced back to Ubuntu and ultimately erased
Windows. :) .

Note : I tried the method of starting from lower resolutions to higher,
but never got to 1920 1080. With a list of true 16:9 resolutions, I
could rise to 1500-something pixels width, but the image was bad on the
eyes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2014-03-22 Thread Paul Dumais
Your work-around works because it doesn't rely on any modifications done
by /usr/sbin/lightdm-session where it loads the modifications found in
either ~/.Xkbmap or ~/.xmodmap. The modifications to the keyboard layout
found in these files are run, but are immediately reverted by some
other process - which is a major bug that is really frustrating because
it breaks a lot of behavior. This still needs to get fixed. Anything put
in ~/.Xkbmap or ~/.xmodmap is not being honored in a very silent and
man-year-wasting fashion.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2014-03-22 Thread dalcde
Solved the problem by the following procedures:
1) Download and extract the arch package
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint/xf86-input-evdev-trackpoint.tar.gz
2) Download the source packages of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.7.4 and
xserver-xorg-input-evdev_2.8.2 from the debian unstable branch

Place all three packages (extracted) in the same folder (folder) such
that the three packages reside in folder/arch, folder/synaptics and
folder/evdev (rename the folders where necessary).

Run the following script:

#!/bin/bash
cp
synaptics/src/{eventcomm.c,eventcomm.h,properties.c,synaptics.c,synapticsstr.h,synproto.c,synproto.h}
 evdev/src
cp synaptics/include/synaptics-properties.h evdev/src
cp arch/*.patch evdev
cd evdev
patch -p1 -i 0001-implement-trackpoint-wheel-emulation.patch
patch -p1 -i 0008-disable-clickpad_guess_clickfingers.patch
patch -p1 -i 0010-add-synatics-files-into-Makefile.am.patch
dpkg-buildpackage
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-input-evdev_*.deb
sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
sudo cp arch/90-evdev-trackpoint.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296180] [NEW] Disable touchpad while typing does not work

2014-03-22 Thread forteller
Public bug reported:

I've seen some similar bugreports, but none exactly like this. In my
Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Disable touchpad while typing does not work at all.
I can both move the cursor and click with it while typing. But the
manual way of turning off the touchpad with the Fn key works fine.

Let me know if I can do anything to help the process of tracking down
and fixing this bug in any way (except coding, which I can't).

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1251849] Re: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20

2014-03-22 Thread Alberto Jovito
I think it is a problem in Xorg of saucy.

I tried the beta version 1 of trusty 64-bit and goes well without
problems. It's a relief.
