Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise
Hi Patola, I'm running a notebook that uses a Pentium-M processor (necessitates the non-PAE kernel) and an nVidia Geforce4 Ti 4200 Go (AGP 8X) video card. I've been using Ubuntu 32-bit on this notebook since Dapper Drake, and the last Live-CD that would run properly on this computer was 8.04.4. Hardy Heron used the nv driver to support this video card, but Ubuntu has replaced nv with nouveau which does not support this video card. I am currently running xserver-xorg-core 2:1.10.4-1ubuntu4 (from Oneiric) to be able to use nvidia-96.43.20ubuntu6 which is based on the latest available -96 driver from nVidia. This is because nvidia-96 is not yet ABI compatible with x.org ABI 11 or newer. I hope that clarifies my situation as it applies to nvidia-96. I also look forward to nVidia bringing out NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.21 to support the newer ABI's. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653714] Re: Garbage on X display w/ Dell D800 wuxga nouveau driver (Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP rev a1 [NV28])
Nouveau has not supported the NV28 video cards since Ubuntu 8.10 was issued (8.04 worked perfectly). In my case I have an nVidia Geforce4 4200 [NV28] factory-OEM installed in a Dell Latitude D800 notebook. There is no replacement video card for this notebook that I am aware of and replacement would be uneconomical in any case. Since it appears that nVidia is on the verge of dropping support for the video cards requiring the nvidia-96 driver, it would seem that nouveau will be the only option in short order. Currently, the nvidia-96 driver is ABI incompatible with Ubuntu 12.04, which requires a rollback to the xorg server-xorg version from Oneiric to get the video card to run. My symptoms under nouveau are that the cursor/pointer is garbled to the point of unusability. The desktop itself is clear but with occasional glitches; without a proper pointer, the GUI cannot be accurately utilized. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653714 Title: Garbage on X display w/ Dell D800 wuxga nouveau driver (Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP rev a1 [NV28]) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/653714/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573682] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted
Interestingly, this problem does not occur on my Dell D800 in VBox 3.1.8 r61349 w/Guest Additions when I boot from the Ubuntu 10.04 .iso image. It also occurs on my obsolescent AMD Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz with the NVIDIA FX 5200 video card when I boot from the Live-CD. The one thing these two systems have in common is that they both use (different) old NVIDIA video cards. My Dell D800 uses the NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go (32 MB) video card. This is a regression since neither machine had this issue until Lucid. Again, however this is with the Live-CD, not installed to hard drive. Needless to say, you can't activate the restricted driver on the Live-CD since it requires a system restart which wipes out the downloaded driver. -- Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573682] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted
Additional Info: I double-checked the md5sum of the .iso image at the mirror and compared it to the md5sum of the .iso image I downloaded; they are the same. I burned a new CD anyway and the new Live-CD has the same problem so I don't think it's a bad CD burn. I've noticed that the vertical streaks corrupted pointer are much more pronounced during the Live-CD boot screen. (plymouth ?) The desktop seems to accumulate vertical streaks and displaced pixels when windows are opened, closed and resized (window edges ?) and as the pointer is moved. -- Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573682] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted
As the release notes suggested, I tried booting the Live-CD with 'nomodeset' option under the F6 menu. Interestingly, the vertical lines were still there but everything (icons, pointer etc.) was doubled about 1/2-inch to the right. I mean 2 Install Ubuntu icons, 2 Examples icons, 2 pointers. Everything was too scrambled to get a screenshot. However the boot-up screen was undistorted with this boot method. -- Ubuntu 10.04 Live-CD: desktop has vertical streaks; pointer corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468393] [NEW] Checkbox killed VBox custom resolution for Guest Additions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu 9.10 beta upgraded to final with Guest Additions installed in VBox 3.0.8 on Ubuntu 8.04.3. 9.10 display was perfect with Guest Additions until I ran System Testing. When Checkbox cycled through the display test, it failed during the resolution-switching portion and was unable to go back to the custom resolution set by the Guest Additions (12xx by 6xx). Rebooting the system failed to fix this, as did reinstalling Guest Additions. I can only suppose that there is something wrong with Xorg.conf now. Hardware: Dell Latitude D800 notebook 1.4 Ghz.
