Re: [Unattended] smartdrv?
Hi I just removed the line from autexec.bat in the image. //Jimmy - Original Message - From: Michael Schneider [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Jimmy Aronsson' [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 12:22 AM Subject: RE: [Unattended] smartdrv? Hi Jimmy, you say you installed w2k over LAN with smartdrv disabled. How did you disable smartdrv, in the images or by booting and confirming every single line in autoexec.bat? If confirming, I think it's not very comfortable - the name of the project is _unattended_ ;-) Regards Michael -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Jimmy Aronsson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 8. Hi, I could not get it to work properly with winxp, so installed w2k over LAN first, it worked like a charm with smartdrv disabled, booting the laptop with pxe. I then upgraded w2k - winxp. This is ofcourse not the best solution... I would really like to get the unattended installtion of winxp to work too. I tried several solutions with smartdrv, but i couldnt get it to work, the installation either stalled at the same stage every time, or skipped a lot of files during filetransfer. RE: [Unattended] smartdrv?
Hi Jimmy, sorry for asking again, but how can I change a file in the image? Changing autoexec.bat shouldn't be a problem, but how do I have to handle with the image-File? [Unattended] Using local SUS for Updates during Installation
Hi, is it possible to use a local SUS instead of win*-updates.bat during the unattended Installation and to reset the Updateserver after installation to Microsofts SUS? If yes, how do I manage it? After editing autoexec.bat, i just ran make inte the bootdiskdir to create the bootdisk image. I then used undis3c.imz as bootdisk. //jimmy - Original Message - From: Michael Schneider [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Jimmy Aronsson' [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 11:02 AM Subject: RE: [Unattended] smartdrv? Matthew Palmer [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: You can, however, use cdeject to pop the disc out (I don't think it's on the CD, but Patrick's a nice bloke about cramming more crap on the image) I could add the eject command, but actually figuring out which device to eject is not easy in general. The CD-ROM device could be IDE or SCSI or USB. or, even cuter, use one of the tools to fiddle the BIOS boot order so the CD-ROM drive is no longer the first boot device. Cute idea, but heavily BIOS dependent. Might make a nice contribution for the Wiki, though... It would also be useful to do a Windows-CD feature theft and do the press any key to boot from CD thing. This is probably the best idea. It means we actually have to write distinct pxelinux.cfg and isolinux.cfg files, though :-). does the directive prompt 0 not have a similar effect needing scroll lock or caps lock to be pressed or else pxelinux exits? or is that just with network booting? if so I would think that that might be a suitable default in both .cfg files - it is certainly what I use on the net boot so that machines can carry on building --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by BEA Weblogic Workshop FREE Java Enterprise J2EE developer tools! I tried several solutions with smartdrv, but i couldnt get it to work, the installation either stalled at the same stage every time, or skipped a lot of files during filetransfer. BR Jimmy This may not be related, but I've seen this getting stuck thing quite a few times before, even when booting and installing from an XP CD. The install would hang at some point before GUI mode - but after 5-10 minutes it would continue after all. It happened on a lot of Compaq pc's with CD's I knew not to be faulty, so I concluded it was an incompabilty problem with the hardware. It could be worth waiting at least 20 minutes before concluding it's actually stuck. Hope it works.
