Hi Guys,

Grab this:

http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/neilpearty.mov

Neil Peart is the Rush drummer - ONE OF THE BEST. RUSH are one of MY all
time fav bands. Blown away with this :)

This is an anim of him playing the Rush track YYZ. The backing track is
the original song with full 3D Animation of him playing WOW - 23mb .mov.
Well worth a download.

Created and designed by Bobby Standridge:
On a technical note, the video was created with 3D Studio Max R3 and hand
key framed using a video reference of me air-drumming along to the song.
Being an older version of the software, the inverse kinematics tended to
bog down after a few hundred frames, so I had to break the video down into
many (un)manageable pieces. Adobe's Photoshop CS and Premiere Pro played
key roles during the compositing and authoring phases.

Fair dues to the guy for Air Drumming the parts. This is no easy piece for
a drummer. He must be a good drummer himself too.

Enjoy,Aidan

Re: Basic SDS - two page tut.

Hi Stefan,

I pick up bits and pieces from others ways of
doing things, and then adopt it to fit my way

The rule is "take what you need and leave the
rest", but I doubt if there would be much in my tut for anyone who has already
cracked SDS.

more of your tuts or just tips

Very busy right now with building and client stuff
but the back of the brain says maybe there's a use for basic perspective intro
theory. Or rather my two cents worth in that line.

  Hi Neil

Thanks for sharing this, it seems very
  nice...!

Hey, there isnt ONE way that is the best and
correct way of doing things, and especially not with SDS
There are tons of ways of doing things !, and I
enjoy very much every time someone shares "Their" way(s) !!!
Even if I got the cool 'Aha' Feeling in SDS a
long time ago.. which I wish for all to experience, I dont stop learning, and
I pick up bits and pieces from others ways of doing things, and then adopt it
to fit my way of thinking..!!!

I also think that there cant be enough sharing,
since when alot of sharing is going on then it leads to even more sharing, and
if we all encourage each others to share, not only fully featured and finished
and polished tutorials, projects, objects, shaders and so on
But even small tips, half done objects, shaders,
effects, animation bits, and similar, this can at least get ppl an idea of how
things can be done..! (and if time let it be done, they can be completed as
  time goes..)

  Well, thx again
Hope to see more of your tuts or just tips, trix
and workflows in the future, that you use !

  BTW
I have some promised tuts that I havent had
  time/energy to finish =(..
I might follow my own advice above, and release
some of it "as is" and later if needed polish it up..

Hi List,

The tut is designed for beginners. It touches
on all the tricks I use for SDS work. Anyway, a second page is now added to
complete this thing.

Re: NURBS Curve - add point

2006-04-14 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thank you very much for this, I will try the workaround the next time
this happens. Too bad that the problem, or a related problem, remains
in v5.1. :|

Thanks,

 Hi Fredrik, Vesa and Chris..

I tested here on the vanilla V5.1 SP2..
And I can repeat the actual behavior..
I dunno if you have done exactly this to get the problems but here it
 is..

When I change the 'Point Count' field in 'Spec' Tab to an enough low value
that changed the curveĀ“s shape... then the 'New Point' Tool started to mess
 up..
(Weirdest mess up, was that when trying to add a point, RS added so the
curve got an extention of it to infinity.. =) beyond the screen and to
 infinity..=)
and it only rendered if changed 'Parametrization' to 'Uniform', it then
rendered the extra part of the curve, with a scanline type of odd shading)
Its not only the 'New Point' Tool that is messed up, its also the 'Sharpen'
 and 'Break' Tool !

 Workarounds I use:
Either just click on the 'Param' Tool (in the 'Controlbar')
 Or
'Elevate by smoothing the Shape' Tool, and then after that the 'Reduce' Tool
to get back the Polygonal shape !
After this, the 'New Point' and those other tools works (as far as I have
seen it works everytime) until you reduce the 'Point Count' again..

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a pattern for this
behaviour. All I can say is that from time to time this happens.
Usually closing the curve and breaking it open again fixes it. The
problem I had today, however did not go away. I had to re-make the
curve from scratch. (Not very difficult, but somewhat annoying)

I am working a lot with polygonal NURBS curves in my

Is the problem repeatable? If it is, please email me some instructions
