I have not looked into that in a few years. There was talk about an extension for OOo and LO that would do this. Then there was some talk about some Windows printer drivers that had this option as part of the printer's package. Just to be clear, to help us figure out what is needed. . . . . First - how many pages are you planning on printing in this impositionor book format? Second - Do you want to use tabloid size paper [11 x 17] and print the pages as letter size [8.5 x 11], or the equivalent for double A4 size paper to A4 pages. Or are you going to use letter or other smaller size sheets to make smaller size booklets. There are some references to booklet and other names for multi-sheet bound documents in some of my Ubuntu 12.04 printer drivers. I will have to check my Windows systems to see if one of the printers, maybe the large format one, has the booklet option available to use. Providing you set the printer orientation to Landscape, you should be able to feed the paper whichever way it normally goes. Brian Barker To be honest, I have not needed to make a booklet lately, maybe for 2 years. I have tried the printing of Tabloid [double Letter] in Landscape with the pages in Letter/Portrait. But I have not tried the booklet. The last work I did was a 4 Letter page [one Tabloid sheet] document that I had to manually duplex. Needed only about a dozen copies. I also used print page option to print out the proper page order on the sheet, like I always did with PageMaker 7. But it is good to know that if I needed to do 2 or more sheets of Tabloid paper, it will be easily done. One reason I did not test it on my tabloid paper, was the price of the paper itself. It is hard to find it locally, so I usually have to order it online. I can never find the 13x19 inch paper, so it is also an online purchase. Shipping costs or paper can be expensive, when I cannot get a deal on shipping from the paper [or office supply] site. I just received my first batch of pastel colored paper in Tabloid size, so I could use that paper instead of Letter size paper with a staple or two. I also have a stock of photo paper in all sized from 4x6 to 13x19 inches, except 5x7 inch. A user who could not post directly to the list because he was using his phone with a non-matching e-mail address asked me why I was using CurrentController. [libreoffice-users] Draw's capacity was reduced after 4.1.1.2 and became very low after the last Win 8 update
Hello, I am trying to use Draw for creating pictures having large number of simple objects, up to several thousands of them per file. To give you some idea, think of the games of go or checkers. Yesterday I was able to keep several such files open at the same time (I knew if I opened too many files LO would die with generalized diagnostics message, and this started happening only after I installed LO 4.1.1.2). Today, after installing the latest Windows update, I found that I could hardly open only one of those files. I really thought I lost it. Fortunately it opened after I closed everything else. Attempting to open a second file at first I saw an empty window with moving green progress indicator bar. At some moment the window would silently disappear. The moment of disappearance apparently depended on the size of the open file. I found that I was able to open two small files. The bigger was the first file, the sooner the process opening the second file would die. I have the latest JRE (1.7.0_40). Increasing LO's memory settings did not change anything. Update: I can now tell that the same crush happens as I add the objects to the drawing. Working with a file I copied around 200 objects at once and tried to past them. The window silently disappeared (another one opened at this time survived). Apparently I saw the number of objects (or some other parameter) restricted two times: first in LO 4.1.1.2 (but at least I was receiving diagnostic message and was able to recover the file), next with the latest update of Windows 8, and this time it got bad. -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Draw-s-capacity-was-reduced-after-4-1-1-2-and-became-very-low-after-the-last-Win-8-update-tp4074503.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Macro from command line: ThisComponent.CurrentController not found
Hopefully this will make it back top the list, Good call responding to the list I believe that you cannot have a view cursor unless you have a display. Some work was done to improve things like maybe it will work if you load the document and then hide it But that is a long shot. Off hand I don't think that you can understand much related to position such add page number without a view. All of the other cursors so not provide this information. After saying that... I expect that PDF export needs a way to understand page numbers and it sounds like you can do that without a view... So perhaps I am mistaken. My best guess is that it only matters of page numbers are displayed in the document and that uses field which should have a display value stored but not updated without the view. Not sure is this helps... greyspammer greyspam...@postino.ch wrote: A user who could not post directly to the list because he was using his phone with a non-matching e-mail address asked me why I was using CurrentController. Looking up hyphen, I have the following [but not the entire list] installed: hyphen-en-us libhyphen0 openoffice.org-hyphenation So go that route. Look up the packages in you package manager - I prefer to use Synaptic which Ubuntu no longer installs by default. Then install them there. You might fix some of your issues. As I stated, Mint and I had problems with one if my network printers - it did not exist on the network - but would use it as a USB printer. Had no issues with Ubuntu 10.04 or 12.04. Okay, here's what I've done. 1. I searched Synaptic for libhyphen and found the same files you mentioned. Yet, LO doesn't recognize it. 2. I then uninstalled my Linux Mint. It was no big deal as I had a Bible research program that wouldn't work with it anyway. (I won't necessarily blame Mint, but I didn't want to have to chase down two Mint problems) 3. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS using the Wubi installer. That installed LO 3.5.x by default. (The Bible research program also worked.) 4. I checked LO 3.5.x, under Options/Language Settings/Writing Aids/ and it had the Hunspell spellcheck module, but it did not have any modules for Hyphenation, Grammar, or Thesaurus. 5. I then upgraded LO to 4.0.4.2 using the ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-0 repository. That was a little weird as I followed online instructions for upgrading to 4.0.5, but the closest I got was 4.0.4.2. Oh, well. 6. I then installed the American English dictionary from the dictionary extensions. 7. Once that was installed, I gained the OpenOffice Thesaurus module, but still no Hyphenation or Grammar Checker modules. 8. Using Synaptic, I found all the same files you listed on your system. 9. Out of curiosity, I then noticed the packages listed at https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-4-0. It mentions the hunspell package and, immediately after, a hyphen package (version 2.8.3-1~lucid1), but no libhyphen package. At this point, I'm waaa out of my techno comfort zone. This has become a real head scratcher for me. For my actual work, I'm still booting into Windows, but the OCD side of me wants to figure this out. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Linux hyphenation
Unless anyone else is bothered by this behavior in the Linux LO, I'm letting it go. I just uninstalled my Ubuntu wubi install. I'm going to leave it for a while before trying again. My Windows LO works fine, and so for now, I'll stay here. I have another life I have to live. Thanks to all who were interested in this issue. It was there as part of the Ubuntu packages. Maybe Mint did not install that package. So go to your package manager and look up and install that Debian package and see if that helps. My package was labeled libhyphen0. I certainly did try memory settings, and I mentioned it. I am playing with LO right now. Apparently it goes down the sink at 3000 objects. Yes, it was not doing this before. [libreoffice-users] Sections are driving me nuts
I have LO 3.5.7.2 on Xubuntu 12.04. I am creating a document that has 18 pages of front matter, after which I want to start page numbering (I don't need numbers on the front matter). I want page 19 to be numbered page 1. Something seems to have happened between the last version of LO that I used and this one. Now there are always a default footer and header that appear when I mouse over them. Page 21 starts with Chapter 1 centered at the top of the page. I placed the cursor in front of it and entered a section. However, doing so added a line break so that Chapter 1 is now on the second line. If I delete the line break apparently it deletes the section marker. I'm not sure of this, however, because I can't find a way to make section markers visible. It might still be there, because if I try to insert a section it shows Section 1 and assumes I want to label the new one Section 2. And assuming I can figure out how to enter a section without an added line feed, or that my section is still there, how can I create a footer that exists only in that section? And how do I enter a page number in the footer with a -18 offset, because I already tried that and it won't accept a negative number? I tried the Help but it didn't explain any of these things. E.g., for page number offset it just says enter the number for the offset - not a word about negative numbers.
Re: [libreoffice-users]
Hi Tom, I use Meld (and have used a few others). Haven't used it (or any of the others) for LO or MS Office files, though. It's pretty good for plain text files like config files or source code. I've used it on generated files before (Visual Studio form files), and it was helpful, but blocks of text that were the same tended to be moved around arbitrarily, and showed up as differences in the file. I'm not sure how much of a problem that would be with LO source files, but in theory it should be helpful for determining if two copies of a file are different, and by how much. That might allow you to determine which version is more recent, that sort of thing. Ideally I suppose one would want an LO viewer that allowed one to load two files side-by-side, and scroll them in tandem. Maybe even have differences, additions and deletions highlighted. A custom LO diff tool, essentially. But short of that, something like Meld is probably going to be useful. Just reset Draw template to default one, opened new file and created 1000 0.12 filled circles (changed the filling color from the default one). Arranged them into rectangle 25x40. Copied and pasted the whole thing 2 times - that's 3000. It worked. Pasted one more time, tried to save. Got LO has stopped working (from Windows). Successfully recovered (all 4000) circles, was able to save and reopen the file correctly. OK, I figured out that the footer is turned on in the page style. That's cool, because I want a left and right page style anyway. I modified the default left and right page styles to turn on the footer. Then I applied the right page style to page 19 and the left page style to page 20, after which I noticed that Writer had thoughtfully applied right and left page styles to all the remaining pages in the document. Cool. Unfortunately, Writer also applied right and left page styles to the first 18 pages also, so they now have the footer on them as well. I don't want the footer on the first 18 pages. So I applied Default page style to the first page, after which I noted that Writer had thoughtfully applied default to page 2, and 3, and 4 ... and continuing to the end of the document. No! I want only pages 1 - 18 to have the Default page style. So I went to page 19 and reapplied right page, and to page 20 and applied left page, and again Writer applied them to the first 18 pages as well. After some poking around I discovered that is controlled by the Organizer tab, where you stipulate the following style. Unfortunately, the selection is a drop-down that contains only the styles that currently exist. You must choose one of them. There is no None of the above option. Whatever you select, as soon as you apply that page style to a page the style specified in the Organizer for the next page will automatically be applied to the end of the document. What this boils down to is that all the pages in your document must always be the same style. Hi mxkuzn, I can verify your findings. I am running LO 4.1.1.2 on Windows 7 64bit. I tried creating a 25x40 grid of filled circles, 0.3cmx0.3cm. This worked, and I could save. I copied this grid onto a new page, so 2000 circles, and I could save. I copied this onto another new page, so 3000 circles, and when I tried to save, LO crashed. Consistantly, saving at or above 3000 circles crashes LO, and recovery does not get it back. I can create more than 3000 circles, I went all the way up to 20 pages, so 2 circles, and apart from each successive paste getting slower and slower, up to almost 10 seconds per paste, there was no sign of crashes, until I tried to save. This is a relatively fresh, and default, install, and I haven't played with any memory settings. I have no idea if this would work for me on previous versions of LO, I've never tried anything like it. To give you some idea, think of the games of go or checkers. I play Go. Thank you very much Paul, I was able to create tens of thousands objects too, and it was fine until I tried to save them. My initial problem was different: I could not open a second big file, but the cause was probably the same, so I choose a simpler way to demonstrate thisbehavior. Re: Go. It's not hard to surpass 3K limit if you keep multiple related layouts in one filelike I do. I need hundreds of them at this stage, each has 200-300 objects, and graphical preview in Draw was very helpful. [libreoffice-users] Re: Draw's capacity was reduced after 4.1.1.2 and became very low after the last Win 8 update
Most importantly, guys, I created those files in Draw and had no problems keeping any number of them open without even thinking of memory settings. I mean, until the latest updates. On 9/17/2013 8:51 PM, Paul-6 [via Document Foundation Mail Archive] wrote: Hi mxkuzn, I can verify your findings. I play Go. I was wondering what you are trying to do; I can't think of anything Go related that would require that many items. Successfully recovered (all 4000) circles, was able to save and reopen the file correctly. Opened new Draw page, copied and pasted another 1000 (5000 total count), tried to save - LO died with the same Windows message. Recovered, and the new page was not there. I am creating a document that has 18 pages of front matter, after which I want to start page numbering (I don't need numbers on the front matter). I want page 19 to be numbered page 1. I hesitate to say it, but I think you may be guilty of Microsoft-Word-think. What Word calls sections are actually section breaks, and you are speaking as if you are expecting Writer to behave similarly. But in Writer, sections do not break up the material but contain it. If you want your later pages to be in a section, you should select all that material before inserting the section - which will then contain that material. The earlier material would not be in a section, but the later material would. But sections are probably not what you need here. And assuming I can figure out how to enter a section without an added line feed, or that my section is still there, how can I create a footer that exists only in that section? Footers are a property of page styles, so its these you should be looking at. I trust this helps. That's right: page styles flow from one page to the next except in two circumstances. You have discovered one already: Left Page and Right Page automatically alternate because of their Next Styles (I think). But the other thing you need here is an indicator of where you want Default to end and Left and Right to start. You do this with a manual page break. You probably have a page break at the end of page 18 already. If so, remove this. Put the cursor at the end of the page 18 material and go to Insert | Manual Break... . Under Type, select Page break, under Style select Right Page from the drop-down menu (page 19 will be a recto), tick Change page number, and ensure the bottom thumb wheel reads 1. Click OK. Voilà! What this boils down to is that all the pages in your document must always be the same style. Not so: page styles change either naturally where one style flows into another on the next page (as your existing Left and Right), or else possibly at a manual page break. Should I just give up on Writer for this project? No. Writer does this very efficiently. I trust this helps.
