Re: [libreoffice-users] LO opens behind Windows Explorer

2015-02-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Yes, it is clear what you are talking about.

In the linux world we call the windows explorer window a file-browser
window or just say file-browser. It is quite different from a
web-browser of course but also has some similarities. In the file-browser
you browse the files and folders on your machine or in network
file-shares. Windows tends to force you to stay with their own one but
even in Windows it is apparently possible to use a different one. Most
Operating Systems have a default one but then allow you to add a different
one if you prefer. There are tons of different ones of each (Thunar,
Dolphin, Nautilus and on and on for file-browsers) so it helps to use the
generic word to cover all of them.

I think the problem you are having is a Windows problem rather than a
LibreOffice one. Is it happening to other sorts of files and other
programs? Even if it is only happening with LibreOffice you might still
find it more useful to ask Windows Support places.

Generally any window (or console) has a title-bar at the top that shows the
name of the file or folder showing in it's window. If you right-click on
that then you get some weird options such as Minimise, Maximise, Move,
Resize and crucially Always on top.

If that option is ticked in your file-browser then it would makes sense
that it's staying on top of other things. Just untick it by clicking
anywhere on it's line.

It is possible that your version of Windows might have a Always
underneath type of option although that kinda sounds a bit of a mad option
to me. So it might be worth right-clicking the title-bar of an open
LibreOffice window jic.

Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Installing LO using yum localinstall

2015-02-27 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

I use Fedora and I generally use yum localinstall to install my RPMs.

I also add an exclude=libreoffice* in yum.conf so that yum does not try
to update libreoffice when a new copy is pushed to the Fedora
repositories. This then causes yum to ignore the RPMs that match the
wild-card, so dependencies fail, and it refuses to install until I
remove the exclude from yum.conf.

So,

is setting the exclude no longer needed in yum.conf as long as I keep
up with the latest releases?

should I just use rpm to install this?

did I do something wrong?

Just looking for thoughts.

COPY OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE RESENT TO LIST FROM DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESS TO
BYPASS TDF's BROKEN EMAIL FILTERS!!!

Yes Bill, I know exactly what you are talking about. I have seen and
used numerous Windows and Linux machines where opening the LO does not
grab the focus in the same way as most other programs do. A LO defect I
have simply learned to live with.

There are at least 2 open Bugzilla related reports:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48300
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75471
Some argue that they are different issues, I disagree, because it is
only the splash logo that pulls the focus to the LO window, with the
-nologo parameter set or for second instances where LO doesn't already
hold the focus, the code makes no attempt to set the window focus.
Coding to set the the window focus under Windows Linux (don't know
OSX) is Programming 101 stuff and should be listed as an Easy Hack.
It has been suggested that this _might_ be fixed in version 4.5, but not
in any the dev builds I have tested so far.

Is there a solution? None that I am aware of, but adding a comment to
one or both the above report may help to attract a developer's interest.

Dave

Hi :)
Comments to bug-reports should include new information such as version of
Windows and/or version of LO that hasn't already been included in previous
posts. Otherwise it only increases ire.

I didn't realise the issue was that common. It's the first time i've seen
anyone mention it on this mailing list as far as i remember. I might well
have missed it earlier though.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Installing LO using yum localinstall

2015-02-27 Thread Tim Lloyd

Hi Andrew,

I have to admit I don't know much about the internal working of yum/dnf.
When I install a new version of Fedora I yum remove libreoffice*. I
then install the latest version I am using yum install *.rpm.

I have a cron job which runs yum update every night (in fact I have
moved to dnf update recently). I have always thought that this update
only affects applications I have installed via the repos. Hence no need
to modify yum.conf in the way you suggest.

So far, so good.

Cheers

Re: [libreoffice-users] Impress Default Style in Drawing Object Styles

2015-02-27 Thread Niklas Johansson

Hi

Well one thing that comes to mind is if I do not like the default color
of objects then I'll change the color in the Default style. That will
also change the color for the children. Of course not all the children
use this setting but see for example Object with shadow.
Another example might be that you want to chante the font used inside
objects. Change the default and see how it changes in the style Text,
Text body and so on.

Try it out and test it on different shapes and figures. Make a test
presentation and go wild for a moment. I hope that it will become more
clear to you when you experimented a bit with it.

Niklas Johansson

This is something I have not seen before, and I am not entirely clear
on it. Nor can I find it searching through the Impress guide. When I
look at the hierarchical view in the Styles and Formatting it is
implied that all other styles are based on it, but that doesn't make a
lot of sense to me. Just what is the Default style good for, and how
should it be used?

Thanks,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Regarding review option..

2015-02-27 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
wrt OpenOffice - apparently their forums and help fairly often helps
LibreOffice users nowadays. When it was under Oracle they had to avoid
being at all helpful to us but even so they often did help as much as they
reasonably could.

So we try to help OpenOffice users here too but there is a potential for
things to work slightly differently in each project so we might not be 100%
correct all the time.

You have written to the LibreOffice users' list asking instead about
OpenOffice - but the answer is probably very similar for both, in fact.

You can toggle the recording of changes in a text document at Edit |
Changes | Record. You can similarly toggle the display of recorded
changes at Edit | Changes | Show. This display, as far as insertions and
deletions are concerned, is very similar to the displays of tracked changes
you describe in Microsoft Word. (I'm not sure what sort of filter you are
 trying to avoid, in fact.)

 I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] positive comment

2015-02-27 Thread Fred James

LibreOffice Version: 4.3.6.1 Build ID: 4.3.6.1-3.mga4
... does a very interesting thing ...
(1) I backup some documents on a daily basis, to a USB stick, which I
remove when not in use
(2) When I opened earlier versions of LibreOffice, the Recent Documents
list showed all documents from the hard drive, and from the USB stick,
whether or not the stick had been removed

(3) Now, when I open LibreOffice
(3.1) If the stick is still in place from the last use, all of the
recent documents on the hard drive, and on the USB stick, are also shown
(3.2) If the stick has been remove, whether replaced or not, the
documents on the USB stick are not shown

... I do like that.

And I do like the new graphical display of the Recent Documents list,
even though I can only see it when all documents are closed.

Thanks
